An anime’s pilot is one of the most crucial things to its initial success. Quite a few series, like Pluto and Oshi no Ko, devote an entire hour to starting off their story just right. The first episode has to not only grab the attention of viewers with gripping scenes and dialogue, but also showcase everything that the anime could offer in terms of story, characters and animation.
An anime’s first episode is supposed to spark interest and promise audiences a tale worthy of their time. Countless great anime have had fantastic first episodes, but only a handful have had some truly amazing debuts, and even fewer live up to the promise of carrying that same quality into the rest of the series.

To Your Eternity is one of the more unique titles in recent years, offering an emotional exploration of what it means to be human through the lens of Fushi. His existence begins with a being known as The Beholder, who placed an orb on Earth that would later become the anime's protagonist. Fushi is an immortal being who has the power to transform into those he comes across after they pass away and replicate items he received stimuli from.
At its core, To Your Eternity follows Fushis growing relationship with others, memory, and loss. However, despite the philosophical undertones, the animes inclusion of intense action scenes takes away from the reflective nature of Fushis story. While action scenes are typically used to create higher stakes, in To Your Eternity, it takes away from the best part of the anime: Fushis ever-evolving connection with humanity.

The Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest anime finally premiered on screen on July 7, 2024. To celebrate the return of the popular shonen action series, a special illustration of Lucy Heartfilia was drawn by the creator of A Silent Voice.
Yoshitoki Oima, the author and illustrator of A Silent Voice, illustrated the Fairy Tail heroine for the series' official social media X account, commemorating the TV airing of the 100 Years Quest anime series. Oima's illustration of Lucy is a little risqu, as the Celestial Wizard is wearing little clothing sans a scarf around her chest. For longtime fans of Fairy Tail or fans of Hiro Mashima in general, the slightly suggestive artwork of Lucy isn't far from the norm. However, for those who follow Oima's works such as A Silent Voice or To Your Eternity, her somewhat provocative artwork of Lucy might come as a surprise.

Streaming service Crunchyroll announced that it has launched a traditional TV channel for a variety of channel networks. The move seems to be a safe bet to garner greater attention to Crunchyroll with a variety of older, English-dubbed shows. Online streaming will likely remain the priority by getting the premium and latest shows first.
The new Crunchyroll channel was already been rolled out on certain TV networks just as it made its press release. Judging by the channels, the 24-hour linear channel will mostly serve as an "economy class" sample, with limited options. The ultimate goal will be to draw in TV-adherent viewers towards trying the online streaming service, with its subscription plan. It's an age-old tactic that nonetheless still creates more options.

Crunchyroll and Gsn, each a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment, have joined forces to launch a new 24/7 anime streaming channel.
Starting today, viewers can find the new Crunchyroll channel on Amazon Freevee, LG Channels, the Roku Channel and Vizio WatchFree+. An announcement of the venture says its linear-style roster of fan-favorite titles is intended for an “anime-curious audience.” Among the series available at launch are Horimiya, Ranking of Kings, Moriarty the Patriot, Psycho–Pass, Arifureta, Sugar Apple Fairytale, To Your Eternity and Code Geass.
New and premium anime content will remain on Crunchyroll’s SVOD and AVOD services, the companies said.
Sony acquired Crunchyroll from AT&T in 2021 and merged it with anime specialist Funimation. The avid base of anime fans globally has propelled Crunchyroll past 10 million paid subscribers, Sony Corp. announced last summer. Sony also bought AT&T’s 42% stake in Gsn in 2019, becoming the sole owner of the cable TV network.

There are endless formative stories to discover in the pages of manga, and many of this generation's most popular anime wouldn't exist without their written source material. Tremendous dedication and work ethic is required to maintain a long-running manga, and it's always incredible when a single creative mind is able to tell their story over several years or decades.
There's no set way to be a mangaka; different creators have found strength through eclectic tactics. Some manga writers are celebrities themselves and well-known in the fandom, while other creators are more elusive and stay out of the spotlight. Some excellent women mangaka have penned a wide range of manga that appeal to audiences of all genders and ages.

An anime adaptation has been officially announced for the fantasy manga Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. While many might still be unfamiliar with the manga, there's good reason to pay attention to it and its upcoming anime adaptation.
Even though Frieren masterfully tackles the poignancy of immortality like other popular ongoing series and transpires in a setting that pleasantly inverts a highly successful anime formula, the manga hasn't enjoyed the attention that it undoubtedly deserves, an unfortunate development that the adaptation will hopefully rectify. Luckily, Frieren's upcoming arrival comes at the right time, for the story contains numerous tropes that have already experienced a decent amount of success in the anime industry as of late.

Warning: Spoilers for Chainsaw Man chapter 108New Chainsaw Man hero Asa Mitaka just discovered the massive potentiality of her already twisted and incredibly overpowered ability. It's not that this technique wasn't powerful already, just that Mitaka and even the War Devil herself who gave Mitaka this power didn't know what it was capable of.
Readers first saw what Chainsaw Man's War Devil could do in the first chapter of the series' second part. She could apparently weaponize people, as made evident when she transformed the spine of Mitaka's teacher into a sword, which then required her to unsheath the recently weaponized blade. Chainsaw Man then revealed that the War Devil could only accomplish this with those who belonged to her, which compelled the War Devil to force Mitaka into possessing certain characters.

Warning: Spoilers for To Your Eternity season 2 episode 1The immortal Fushi in To Your Eternity's first season mostly suffered whenever his friends or loved ones passed on. But the latest season measures his anguish by those who are still alive.
To Your Eternity established its upsetting formula early enough that, by episode two, viewers were already dreading every time he formed a relationship with a new character. At the end of the series' pilot, Fushi had met two characters who eventually died, allowing Fushi to take their forms, as is part of his power. So when To Your Eternity later introduced more characters who were both destined to cross paths with Fushi, viewers hopefully poised themselves for what was likely to come because they too eventually met the same fate as the others, casting both Fushi and the viewers into despair.

Warning: Spoilers for To Your Eternity season oneFans will soon have the chance to see Isekai reincarnation done correctly when season two of To Your Eternity finally premiers on October 23. While many people understandably don't associate this tragic story with Isekai, how the first season ends implies that a character will reincarnate to help the hero Fushi in his never-ending journey.
Like all other forms of Isekai, reincarnation involves a character getting transported into another world or sucked into a game, except rather than that character continuing on as their normal selves, they are reborn as a different person, species, or sometimes as an inanimate object like the Isekai parody about a vending machine. Sometimes the place where they are Isekai'd is a literal RPG or a real-life world that acts like a game where people can level up. But what's normally key to reincarnation is when heroes are reborn...

TV had the run of the place for awhile there during the pandemic. But now that vaccinations are speeding up and the weather is warming, it’s film’s time to shine. At least that’s the conclusion that can be drawn from HBO Max’s list of new releases for June 2021.
There are no real original TV series of note coming this month, which is highly unusual for HBO and HBO Max. In their place, however, are some really impressive film offerings. Major Warner Bros. titles like The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (June 4) and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights (June 11) both arrive this month. So too do some interesting documentaries like Revolutionary Rent on June 15 and Lfg on June 24. The former deals with the staging of the musical Rent in Cuba and the latter follows the U.S. women’s soccer team’s fight for equal pay.

“To make Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Sony had to invent new types of animation technology. The result was a stunning, Oscar-winning film that blurred the line between cartoon and comic book. But at the same time, Sony was making another animated film that took the same tech from Spider-Verse and used it to do something very… weird.”

Shrek is a masterpiece that couldn’t have existed as it does if the stars hadn’t aligned. Let’s take a look at alternative versions of Shrek that could’ve been.
“Imagine, if you will, the universe’s infinite realities that contain an infinite amount of Shreks. I don’t care whether or not you believe in that stuff; just think of all the different iterations of Shrek...
