Jason Isaacs has played several iconic characters throughout his career, but few of them are as popular as Harry Potter's Lucius Malfoy. The actor is aware of how beloved the series is and recently drew comparisons with his recent role in HBO's The White Lotus.
His respective characters are different, but there are some similarities between the two, like constant arrogance, a belief that they're better than poor people, and the willingness to do anything for money/power, which led them to issues with the law. During a promotional interview for The White Lotus, via Max Nordic on X,Isaacs compared his characters' parental skills, as well as his on-screen sons.

When fan-casting Marvel's X-Men, there are some actors who are widely thought of for certain roles. For example, Daniel Radcliffe has long been a top choice to play Logan/James Howlett/Wolverine. However, one enduring actor-character match is Jason Isaacs as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto. Isaacs has a long history of playing complex villainous characters in projects such as The Patriot, the Harry Potter franchise, Peter Pan, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and more. Moreover, the actor shares a Jewish background with Magneto, which is a core element of his story and contributes significantly to his motivations.
Recently, he acknowledged the popular fan cast for the first time. In an episode of Vanity Fair Game Show alongside his The White Lotus costars, Isaacs was tasked with seeing how well they knew him by guessing his answers to questions provided by the producers. The Harry Potter TV show's new Dumbledore actor, John Lithgow, explains how he was convinced to join the adaptaton. After the eight successful Warner Bros. films, J.K. Rowling's fantasy story is now set to be brought to life in the form of a multi-season TV show on HBO from showrunner Francesco Gardiner. The full cast for the Harry Potter TV show has not yet been announced, but Lithgow confirmed to ScreenRant last month that he will be playing Albus Dumbledore, a role previously played by late actors Richard Harris and Michael Gambon.
In a recent interview with Variety, Lithgow admits that, while he may not have been very familiar with the world of Harry Potter, he knows that the previous eight films were successful. This raised the question for him of why he should join this new adaptation. According to Lithgow, the creatives behind the show presented Dumbledore's full journey to him,...

Although they’ve rightly become iconic, the Harry Potter films do feature several scenes between them that continue to provoke questions and confusion in viewers. Many of these involve plot points that receive more thorough explanations in the novels the series is based on, but some points remain ambiguous or confounding even for viewers with knowledge of the books. One such moment from the series’ final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, is the scene in which Narcissa (Helen McCrory) of the usually villainous Malfoy family lies to Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) to conceal that Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) has survived the Dark Lord’s latest attempt to kill him.

HBO's upcoming Harry Potter reboot is one of the most anticipated projects. With an already established fanbase, the series comes with a lot of pressure in terms of casting, storytelling, and universe.
With a premiere date tentatively set for 2026, HBO hasn't revealed any details about the upcoming project. The only known details were Warner Bros. Discovery's pledge for a more accurate depiction of the seven novels in J.K. Rowling's original Harry Potter series, and that critically acclaimed actor John Lithgow will be the new Professor Albus Dumbledore. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the series has received a disappointing update for the movie fans.
Speaking whether the new series will feature any of the original actors, Warner Bros. Discovery's IP exec Sarah Aubrey revealed the executives are looking at new, fresh talent, instead of casting some of the original actors.
We don’t want to repeat people that were in the movies.

Jason Isaacs is best known for giving life to Lucius Malfoy in theHarry Potterfilm franchise, and has said something that will probably make you shed a few tears if you're a fan of the wizarding world. In the same spirit as his character in the movies, Isaacs is not exactly joyful when he reminisces about playing the character and says that the movies "weren’t that much fun to make."
Isaacs was featured on the BBC's talk show The One Show, where he spoke about his career. Having appeared films like The Patriot and TV shows like The Oa and, most recently, The White Lotus, he played the antagonist Lucius Malfoy in six of the eight Harry Potter movies. Lucius is the father of Draco Malfoy, Harry's enemy throughout his run at Hogwarts. Although Isaacs wasn't typecast for his role in the Harry Potter universe, it's undeniable that Malfoy...

John Lithgow is the first star confirmed for HBO's Harry Potter TV series, in which he'll play Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore. While Lithgow is excited to take the baton from the late Michael Gambon, the legendary actor had some reservations about the reboot at first. "My first question is, 'Do we really need this?' There have been wonderful Harry Potter films and books," Lithgow tells MovieWeb, "And people know the books by heart."
While it's been close to 14 years since the final installment in the Harry Potter film franchise, many fans wondered if HBO's new reboot was necessary. Now that Lithgow has confirmed his casting as wizarding icon Albus Dumbledore, it's only a matter of time before we learn who will play lead protagonists Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Production on Season 1 is scheduled to start in April 2025 with a tentative release date of 2026 or 2027.

HBO's upcoming reboot of Harry Potter finally has at least one confirmed cast member, and he's going all-in to portray an iconic character. Although the network has remained tight-lipped about the cast of the controversial remake, one name surfaced recently that was reportedly set to join Harry Potter. No stranger to television, the six-time Emmy-winning actor John Lithgow was in talks to play the beloved headmaster of Hogwarts in the new reboot from HBO. Now, Lithgow himself has commented on the news, confirming he'll be staying at Hogwarts for a long, long time.

If you're a longtime fan of the "Harry Potter" books, I'm gonna need you to name all of Harry's major physical characteristics ... which should be an easy ask, because series author Joanne Kathleen Rowling (who styles her name as J.K. Rowling) is constantly talking about them. He has very dark black hair, a lightning bolt scar on his forehead, wears round glasses, is relatively skinny and gawky, and he has green eyes. That last thing is really, really important; Harry's eyes, which look just like those of his late mother Lily Potter, are vital to the overall story. So why does Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry Potter in the film franchise that came out between 2001 and 2011, have obviously blue eyes throughout the popular movies?
In an issue of Empire Magazine that commemorated the franchise's 20th anniversary in 2021, "Harry Potter" producer David Heyman cleared up the issue of Harry's canonically green...

Daisy Ridley may have grown up a huge Harry Potter fan, but she has no desire to take on a role in the forthcoming television series adaptation. And before you assume her rationale has anything to do with the controversies surrounding the franchise's creator, J.K. Rowling, think again. It's merely because she is such a big fan that she believes "the pressure" would be too intimidating to overcome.
In a quote the actress gave at a screening for her new film Cleaner, Ridley was quite direct about the reasons as to why she never even considered trying to be cast in the production:
"I haven't asked to be a part of it because, honestly, I am so… Those performances are so phenomenal that I feelit would be so terrifying to take on one of those roles. Just, I mean… a huge commitment of time, but really it's just, I just love the films.

HBO's upcoming Harry Potter reboot has finally found its beloved head professor. Among the many challenging casting choices facing the upcoming Harry Potter TV series, landing the perfect actor to portray the franchise’s main antagonist, Lord Voldemort, is an unenviable task thanks to the incredible performance of Ralph Fiennes in the role across several Harry Potter movies. However, in a recent interview, the actor, who has also been part of the James Bond franchise and will soon be seen in 28 Years Later, recalled how what he calls “totally misplaced snobbery” almost cost him one of his most iconic roles.
The idea of another actor playing Voldemort is one that fans of the movie franchise are still not quite ready to accept, as, along with several prominent players in the movies, Fiennes’ portrayal of the evil character has become a deeply ingrained part of pop culture. The Dceu's highest-grossing movie, James Wan's Aquaman, is still an impressive achievement over six years after it broke historical DC movie records. The DC Extended Universe raced to its first crossover event after only three installments. Then, Justice League assembled the team, and Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry received his own spinoff one year later. Warning! Spoilers for major fantasy movies and franchises ahead!Crafting a good plot twist in a fantasy movie takes skill, as it's sometimes easy to see them coming within the genre. Since so much time must be spent building the world and providing exposition to give the audience context, it can be complicated to provide enough foreshadowing for a plot twist to hit the audience at the right time. However, when a narrative turn in a fantasy story is good, there's nothing better than shocking the viewer and changing their perspective on everything that's happened in the film so far.
While there are plenty of bad movies with frustrating plot twists, these films successfully set up their narrative turns with enough foreshadowing to make them satisfying without giving them away. It would be amazing to go back in time and watch these movies again to experience the thrill of discovering what the story is hiding.

Harry, Hermione and Ron might've got a cauldron full of house points for Gryffindor over the years, but they only managed to get one film onto IMDb's Top 250 list, and it might not be the one you're thinking of. In the pantheon of "Harry Potter" films that saw Daniel Radcliffe's orphan and number one horcrux in the side of He Who Must Not Be Named aka Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), there are plenty to great watches to choose from. Some that might not have aged as well as others and some that might sit lower down the list, but they have a handful of memorable moments regardless. However, according to IMDb's users, it's the latter half of the final chapter in the "Harry Potter" franchise, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," that deserves a slot among the select few.

With that said, Age of Ultron still made over a billion dollars at the box office, and served as further proof that the franchise would continue to succeed on a long-term basis. You might have assumed that the world of Harry Potter had reached its cinematic end when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 wrapped up the boy wizard’s story in 2011, but Warner Bros. wasn’t about to close up shop on their magical cash cow. Thus, the franchise was extended into the Wizarding World shared universe, which now includes not only the eight original Harry Potter movies but also the trilogy of Fantastic Beasts spinoff films. The Harry Potter films are constantly shifting their streaming home between Peacock and Max, sometimes the franchise is streaming on both services at the same time.

Thirteen years after “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” released in theaters and brought an end to Harry’s journey on the big screen, the Harry Potter universe is gearing up for a return in the form of episodic television.
Led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod of “Succession,” HBO’s take on the beloved book-turned-movie-franchise aims to bring the magical world back to life as Harry Potter discovers he’s a wizard and leaves his muggle family behind to attend Hogwarts, a school of magic. Along the way, he befriends Ron and Hermione and becomes a significant part of a plot against Lord Voldemort, or as most call him, “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.”
The show comes nearly 30 years after J.K. Rowling published “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” which was adapted into a film directed by Chris Columbus in 2001. In total, the original “Harry Potter” film series has...

In perhaps the easiest casting call from fans ever, the Harry Potter fandom wants HBO to consider Adam Driver to play the role of Severus Snape, in the franchise reboot. HBO’s Harry Potter reboot is officially underway, with a premiere slated for 2027.
Announced in 2023, the series promises a decade-long adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved novels, with each season dedicated to one book. Despite the hype, controversy surrounding the casting of key characters, particularly Professor Severus Snape, has divided fans. While British actor Paapa Essiedu is reportedly being considered, fans are questioning why Adam Driver, a popular and fitting choice, hasn’t been seriously considered for the role.

The box office has always been volatile and unpredictable, with movies that seemed destined to become smash hits completely bombing, or films that no one expected to make much noise pulling through to become hits. 2024 has been a solid year when it comes to total box office numbers, with multiple huge successes sprinkled throughout the year and a Thanksgiving weekend that broke several box office records, but there is one overall month that made such box office history, and that level of success hasn't been repeated since.
Despite 2024's huge successes, the box office as a whole is still significantly reduced when compared to pre-pandemic numbers. The biggest recent box office year, 2023, still had a smaller total gross than any pre-2020 year since 2007. On the other hand, the 2010s were a huge time for the box office and Hollywood as a whole, as plenty of franchises were either reaching their...

Francis Ford Coppola apologizes for his role in prompting an undesirable Hollywood trend. Considered a master of cinema, Coppola is behind some of the most notable works of the 20th century. Most significantly, he directed the Godfather trilogy, which began with The Godfather in 1972 and continued with The Godfather Part II and The Godfather Part III in 1974 and 1990, respectively. Other notable works by Coppola have included the war epic Apocalypse Now and the surveillance drama The Conversation. This year he directed Megalopolis, which has become one of 2024's most notorious films.
Speaking with The Washington Post, Coppola apologizes for a movie trend he inadvertently started. According to the director, he decided to tack on the "Part II" label to his Godfather sequel after seeing Russian filmmakers do it with the movie Ivan the Terrible. Voldemort Hugged Draco In Unscripted Scene (Photo Credit – Instagram/YouTube)
So, remember that creepy Voldemort hug in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2? Yeah, it turns out it wasn’t supposed to happen. Tom Felton, aka Draco Malfoy, was just as shocked as the rest of us when Ralph Fiennes (aka Voldemort) pulled him in for an unexpected embrace during filming. And trust me, Felton wasn’t ready for it.
In a throwback interview from DragonCon 2011, Felton spilled the beans about the awkward moment that wasn’t in the script. “The hug was never in the script for that scene,” Felton said. “Fiennes only decided to do it once during all the takes.” Imagine being in the middle of a tense scene, and then Voldemort decides to hug it out. Felton’s reaction? Pure confusion. “I was standing there like, ‘What the hell is he doing? Why is...

The best part about working with seasoned actors in Hollywood is you never know when they might improvise a scene out of the blue. Well, Harry Potter star Tom Felton claimed to have experienced such a magical and equally baffling improvisation while working with Ralph Fiennes, on the set of Deathly Hallows Part 2.

According to Tom Felton’s memoir, Ralph Fiennes had apparently improvised the creepy scene where Voldemort gave Draco a chilling and most uninviting hug, after the Battle of Hogwarts. The actor revealed that after doing over 30 takes, Fiennes suddenly lifted his arm lousily and invented an awkward hug that left him shaken and scared to date.

HBO has a Harry Potter show coming out in 2026, and it is shaping up nicely, but one Harry Potter star pointed out the potential problems with the remake. The Harry Potter reboot comes after Warner Bros.' incredibly successful movie series, beginning in 2001 with the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone movie and ending in 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. The upcoming TV show has big boots to fill, with the resounding impact of the movies behind it and a point to prove.
The HBO Harry Potter TV show will have to prove its reason for existing in its first season, which may be a challenge when J.K. Rowling's stories were told so well by the movies. Directed by Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarn, Mike Newell, and David Yates, this eight-movie series adapted the last Potter novel in two parts, to allow for a lengthier exploration of events.

The Harry Potter books are packed to the brim with rich characters, so it's understandable that some would be cut for the movies, but Percy Weasley's dwindling appearances are particularly frustrating. In both the books and films, the Weasleys become Harry Potter's surrogate family. Harry first befriends second-youngest Weasley sibling Ron, but he's soon close with the whole lot, and it's frequently joked about that matriarch Molly loves Harry more than her own children. Harry even ends up officially joining the Weasley family when he marries Ginny, the youngest.
The Weasley whom Harry is least close to is Percy. The fourth-born Weasley sibling, Percy is somewhat of a black sheep in the family. Whereas the others are easygoing and mirthful, Percy is rigid, disciplined, and sycophantic in his ambition. At Hogwarts, he takes his duties as Gryffindor Prefect and Head Boy far too seriously, and his power-hungry arrogance only grows...

It'll be a few years before new students are admitted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, as HBO have given fans a rough and very long timeline for the Harry Potter reboot series. The show will adapt each of J.K. Rowling's beloved novels into a season of television, allowing fans to spend more time with the eclectic students and teachers at Hogwarts. While many are excited about the prospect, some audiences have turned on the reboot (as most fans do with most reboots), labeling it as an unnecessary remake.

Well, here's something: apparently, the upcoming Harry Potter television show hasn't "felt any impact" from series author J.K. Rowling's anti-transgender views and commentary, despite her being involved in the series and its development as an executive producer.
During a preview presentation at the London Hotel in West Hollywood for their 2025 programming slate (via IndieWire), HBO CEO Casey Bloys was directly asked about the level of Rowling's involvement and how the controversial author's views have swayed the creative process.
According to Bloys (who has previously dodged the question), Rowling has "been fairly involved she was very involved in the process of selecting the writer and the director. I imagine she'll have opinions on casting." He went on to insist to the room of reporters that, "it hasn't affected the casting or hiring of writers or production staff or anything, so we haven't felt any impact from that."

Harry Potter and Batman might have more in common than being overpowered orphans. HBO wants the Wizarding World to become the next big franchise with multiple actors taking on the titular role. The upcoming Harry Potter reboot has the entire fan base divided. Some are excited about J.K. Rowling's novels being adapted into a TV series, which allows for more screentime to explore previously underdeveloped characters. Meanwhile, others hold the original film series dear to their hearts, and are viewing the new reboot as nothing more than a cash-grab. Unfortunately, the latest update from Warner Bros. hasn't done much to alleviate that anxiety.
Speaking to Variety, Peter Van Roden, Warner Bros.s executive VP of global themed entertainment, revealed the company's plans for the Harry Potter franchise. The report included new theme parks, tie-in merchandise, a sequel to the hit video game Hogwarts Legacy, and some details about the upcoming HBO Harry Potter series.

Few titles have reached the popularity of Harry Potter. Most of the child actors were unknown when the first film premiered but everyone knew their names by the time the franchise ended in 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
While attending the Rhode Island Comic Con on Nov. 3, Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom in all eight films, discussed his character but also how he handled his fame after the film series ended (via The Mirror). Since then, most of the child actors have tried to make their mark outside their Harry Potter characters, and Lewis discussed how excited he was to do something new, and how they avoided "the pitfalls of being a child actor.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore confirmed that Credence Barebone/Aurelius Dumbledore (Ezra Miller) is the new Snape (Alan Rickman) through a very familiar line delivered by Aberforth Dumbledore (Richard Coyle). Fantastic Beasts 3 finally shed light on the plot twist of Credence being Aurelius Dumbledore. Indeed, Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) didn't lie, but he was wrong about Aurelius being Albus' brother (and about the Dumbledores abandoning him). In fact, he is Aberforth's long-lost son, and when the two finally reconnect, Aberforth makes Credence's connection to Snape all too clear.
It is revealed in Fantastic Beasts 3 that Aberforth fathered a child with a woman from Godric's Hollow. However, she was sent away, and the baby was swapped by Leta Lestrange (who was trying to temporarily get rid of her noisy brother Corvus). This is how Aurelius Dumbledore was named Credence and put under the care of tyrannic Mary Lou Barebone. While...

Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne shares a disappointing response regarding Newt Scamander's return to the Harry Potter franchise. Daniel Radcliffe bid farewell to the role of Harry in 2011 with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, but the Wizarding World returned in 2016 with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which introduced Newt as a new protagonist. Newt returned for a poorly-reviewed sequel in 2018 and for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in 2022, which stalled the spinoff franchise after it became the lowest-grossing movie in the larger Harry Potter franchise.

Harry Potter star Ralph Fiennes praises the late Dame Maggie Smith, recalling one positive memory he has of their time filming together. Based on the books by J.K. Rowling, the first Harry Potter movie was released in 2001, introducing Smith as Professor Minerva McGonagall. Fiennes would join the franchise later as Lord Voldemort, with the two stars ultimately not sharing much screen time. Smith, whose last appearance as McGongall was in 2011's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, passed away on September 27, 2024, at the age of 89.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Fiennes comments on Smith's passing, recalling a particularly sweet memory he has from filming one of the Harry Potter films.
