The series, which has been in development since May 2020, revolves around the Lisbeth Salander character from the books. It is a co-production between Amazon MGM Studios and Left Bank Pictures, in association with Sony Pictures TV.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will take the iconic and much-loved character Lisbeth Salander and place her in today’s world – with a new setting, new characters, and a new story that will resonate with fans of the original and thrill a whole new generation, according to Amazon.

Harries, founder and CEO of Left Bank Pictures, will executive produce along with Rob Bullock.

David Fincher looks back on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo with pride, while admitting the movie failed at the box office. Based on the best-selling novel by Stieg Larsson, Fincher’s 2011 thriller starred Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander, a tough-as-nails computer hacker recruited by a journalist (Daniel Craig) to aid in the investigation of a decades-old disappearance. Mara herself would go on to score an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, but The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo would ultimately not meet Sony's box office expectations, despite grossing a decent-looking $239 million worldwide on a reported budget of $90 million.

Though The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’s box office fell short in the eyes of Sony, Fincher himself says he is proud of what he accomplished with the film, while acknowledging that things didn’t pan out the way everyone hoped given the original book’s status as an international phenomenon.

Apple has greenlit the pyschological thriller series “Constellations” with Noomi Rapace and Jonathan Banks attached to star, Variety has learned.

In “Constellation,” Rapace stars as Jo, a woman who returns to Earth after a disaster in space only to discover that key pieces of her life seem to be missing. The series is further described as a space adventure, an exploration of the dark edges of human psychology, and one woman’s desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel and for her to recover all that she has lost.

Apple has given the show an eight episode order. Peter Harness serves as writer and executive producer on the series under his Haunted Barn Ltd. banner. Michelle MacLaren will direct the first two episodes and executive produce. MacLaren is also directing the upcoming Apple series “Shining Girls” and has also directed an episode of “The Morning Show.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series has had a bit of a bumpy ride over on this side of the pond. Though the trilogy was a huge hit overseas when it was adapted for the big screen, it didn’t find the same success back in 2011 when director David Fincher remade it.

The movie under-performed at the box office big time and the follow-up (thought to be The Girl Who Played with Fire) spiraled down into development hell. Further problems behind the scenes with the various filmmakers and producers complicated the process even more and all hope seemed to be lost for a sequel.

Fast-forward to last year, when we learned that Sony had scrapped Played With Fire and instead chose to reboot the property, with director Fede Alvarez in charge and the fourth installment in the book series, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, acting as the source material.

The long-awaited follow-up to David Fincher’s 2011 film, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, is both a sequel and a reboot. Fincher spent years developing The Girl Who Played With Fire, with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara both attached, but the filmmaker nor the studio never got to a script that they were satisfied with to move the project into production.

The world met Lisbeth Salander, the heroine of Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy, when The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was published in 2005. She only became more popular when Swedish production company Yellow Bird adapted the crime thriller and its two sequels, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest, for the screen in 2009.

Noomi Rapace plays Lisbeth, a prodigious ward of the state who has poor social skills and a photographic memory, while Michael Nyqvist plays Mikael Blomkvist, an investigative journalist who enlists her help in solving a cold case and later becomes involved in uncovering a government conspiracy in her past.

Remember "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", the first book in the worldwide literary hit the "Millennium" series that was just about everywhere with its iconic book cover back in the mid-to-late 2000s? Well that series is still chugging along despite author Stieg Larsson's death in 2004, with Swedish author and crime journalist David Lagercrantz continuing the adventures of investigative journalist/publisher Mikael Blomkvist and gifted hacker Lisbeth Salander. As you surely know by now, the movie under-performed at the box office and the follow-up (at that time thought to be The Girl Who Played with Fire) spiralled down into development hell. Further problems behind the scenes with the various filmmakers and producers complicated the process even more and all hope seemed to be lost for a sequel.

Fast-forward to several months ago, when we learned that Sony had scrapped Played With Fire and instead chose to reboot the property, with director Fede Alvarez in charge and the fourth installment in the book series, The Girl in the Spider’s Web,...

It seems Sony Pictures may have found their new Lisbeth Salander in The Crown star Claire Foy, despite reports from March that both Scarlet Johansson and Natalie Portman were up for the role. Claire Foy is reportedly in early talks, but she may not be set quite yet. Insiders claim that, while Claire Foy has in fact been offered the role, there are still scheduling issues that need to be worked out before she can sign on.

Claire Foy appears to be the frontrunner to replace Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander in Sony's The Girl In The Spider's Web.

It’s been 12 years since the publication of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo took the literary world by storm with its spikey anti-heroine Lisbeth Salander. Four movies and two interpretations later, it remains a coveted role for almost any young actor. Part Pippi Longstocking and part avenging goth-punk out to punish misogynists and abusers wherever they hide, Stieg Larsson’s creation is still so potent that Sony Pictures is ready to take another stab at piercing the character onscreen, and possibly with The Crown’s Claire Foy too.

As according to anonymous sources over at The Wrap, Foy is the frontrunner whom Sony and director Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe) are zeroing in on to star in The Girl In The Spider’s Web.
