With the success of R.L. Stine's first Fear Street trilogy for Netflix, a new prom queen-centric story is slashing its way onto the streaming service later this year -- one that fans have been eagerly awaiting. Set to release later this year, bringing this classic theme, beloved by horror enthusiasts for its mix of glamour and gore, is a smart move, ripe for reinvention in the Fear Street universe. The buzz around the film isn’t just nostalgia bait, though, with a new generation of horror fans ready to dive in.

The Gilded Age season 3 is on the way, and the continuing popularity of the historical drama makes it a surefire hit. Debuting on its original network of NBC in 2022, The Gilded Age is written and created by Julian Fellowes, known for the hit series Downton Abbey. With a cast that includes multiple theater veterans and classically trained actors, The Gilded Age brings the nuance of Fellowess other shows to Americas industrial boom in the late 1800s specifically to the New York industrialists and socialites that thrived (and fell) during this unique point in history.
The series has been a critical darling throughout its first two seasons, and The Gilded Age season 2 actually surpassed its predecessor with a Rotten Tomatoes score of over 90%. Exclusive: Police Academy veteran Steve Guttenberg and Vacation‘s Christie Brinkley have boarded Michael W. Gray’s coming-of-age family comedy American Summer.
Shooting has begun in Northern New Jersey and will extend into mid-October. Gray is directing from a script he wrote with Jennifer B. White.
Pic follows Mikey (Guttenberg), now in his 60s, who vividly journeys back to his childhood during one of the best summers of his life when he met the girl of his dreams, Kelly, scored a spot on the travel
baseball team, worked his first job and began his growth out of boyhood — all in the sudden wake of his dad missing overseas on a military mission.
Logan Gray stars as Young Mikey and Mia Talerico (Disney’s Good Luck Charlie) stars as Young Kelly. Also starring are Dan Lauria, Cullen Moss, Erinn Ruth, Michael Cuomo (Nanny), Ellen Toland (Inside the Rain), Stephen Krahel, former baseball stars Lee Mazzilli and Luis Sojo, plus newcomers Callie Reese (What Breaks the Ice), Cash Chisum, Jaba Keh, Carter J Thomas, Max Malas, Maximus Virgili, Chance Stout, and Noodle (the family puppy who saves the day).
“American Summer is a tale for a multi-generational audience to enjoy together. I look forward to sharing the film with the world as I want to bring people together to laugh and feel in their own way,” said Gray.
“I’m excited to be working on such a feel-good movie,” Guttenberg said. “The story requires the creative team to put together a narrative that is not only universal, but unique in its own style. American Summer has the potential to bring generations together, and that’s what audiences ask for in a great family film.”
Gray (A Birder’s Guide to Everything Jamie Marks Is Dead) and Michael Cuomo are producing. Guttenberg, Brinkley, Brian Dubin and Stephen Krahel are EPs. Josh Folan and Danny Ward are co-producers.
American Summer is a co-production of Relentless Filmz (Gray) and Brooklyn Owl Pictures (Cuomo). Gray is repped by Ramo Law. Guttenberg is repped by Vault Entertainment and CAA. Brinkley is repped by Artist Brand Alliance and Untitled Entertainment.

Penelope is Netflix's newest coming-of-age series and represents the first leading role for its young actress. Created by award-winning producer Mel Eslyn and The Morning Show's star Mark Duplass, the show stars a small but talented cast. The narrative follows Penelope, a contemporary teen who feels out of place within her community of peers and decides to escape into the wilderness. Cutting off her family and friends, the teenager enjoys her own and nature's company before meeting fellow travelers who show her what true belonging is.
Although Penelope feels a pull to nature, it is in her found connections that she finds peace and purpose. The Netflix 2024 TV show highlights that nature can teach humans a way back to each other, even in a modern world. Penelope's character represents a severed link that promises to be healed in the trees and through interactions with peculiar characters, like an elder nomad,...

The 2023 Goosebumps reboot is not intended for a younger audience, signaling a departure from previous installments aimed at children. The show is rated TV-pg and contains violence, scary moments, adult themes, and references to extramarital affairs and sexual innuendos. The darker tone and increased focus on scares and teen subplots may scare younger viewers and disappoint those expecting a lighter, comedic approach like the Goosebumps movies.
While 2023’s Goosebumps reboot might be based on a series of children’s books, that doesn’t necessarily mean the show is intended to be viewed by a younger audience. The Goosebumps franchise has been through many iterations, but most of them have one thing in common. From the original novels by Rl Stine to their TV show adaptation in the ‘90s, to the two live-action horror comedy movies based on the Goosebumps books, all the franchise’s installments have been aimed...

One of the many shameful losses during the (not so) great Disney+ purge of 2023 was "Just Beyond," the anthology series based on R.L. Stine's graphic novel property of the same name. Created by Seth Grahame-Smith ("Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter"), the genre-blending show is probably the closest anyone's come to creating a worthy tween-friendly successor to "The Twilight Zone," complete with its dark satire and profound mediation on topics such as love, loss, and mortality.
"Just Beyond" might have also made for a nice companion piece to the streamer's incoming "Goosebumps," itself the latest screen adaptation of Stine's mega-popular "spoopy" book series. Having previously been adapted as a live-action TV series that ran from 1995 to 1998, the property made the leap to the big screen with the 2015 "Goosebumps" film, which was followed by a sequel three years later.

Disney reportedly canceled a planned, untitled series intended to be a spinoff of Pixar's upcoming animated series, Win or Lose.
According to a report from The Wrap, the series, which was set to debut on Disney+ in December, was quietly scrapped by Disney before any official announcement of the project was made. The animated series was intended to be a spinoff of another spinoff series, Win or Lose, which similarly has not yet been released. A specific reason for the cancellation by Disney was not provided. Additionally, while the untitled project will not move forward as a series, the show could still be released at some point down the line, but as a feature film instead of a series.

Exclusive: Hulu is joining the latest round of programming purges.
The streamer is pulling off a number of additional series from its service as part of Disney’s wider plan to cut streaming costs.
The company revealed last month in an SEC filing that it would take $1.5B-$1.8B in write-downs associated with removing streaming programming from its platforms and expects to remove from more its direct-to-consumer platforms in the third quarter with another $400M in impairment charges.
Deadline now can reveal some of those titles.
They include Alaska Daily and The Company You Keep, which were both canceled at ABC after one season. Both shows would normally have stayed on the service until September, or later if Hulu had struck a longer deal, but are to be removed earlier next month.
Deadline understands that, going forward, ABC series canceled after one season, as well as specials, likely will fall under a similar strategy.

Disney made it official with an SEC filing after the markets closed Friday, confirming it would take $1.5 billion in write-downs associated with removing streaming programming from its platforms.
The number came in on the low end of a range provided by the company last month when it released its quarterly earnings. (Read the new filing Here.) Like other media companies, Disney has been looking to trim expenses in the once-fevered streaming arena, and removing programming has been one means of reaching that goal. Rival service Max, the outlet recently rebranded by Warner Bros Discovery, has also drawn scrutiny for shedding a number of high-profile titles, though the removals are part of the larger reckoning with the daunting economics of streaming. The long-promised nirvana for consumers of a nearly endless storehouse of available titles has collided with the reality of how much that costs to sustain, both in terms of technology...

The long-promised nirvana for consumers of a nearly endless storehouse of available titles has collided with the reality of how much that costs to sustain, both in terms of technology...

You can no longer stream Marvel's Runaways on Hulu or Disney+, as the show has been removed from streaming services. It was recently reported that a purge was taking place at Disney+ with several movies and shows getting removed for the sake of cutting costs. Per /Film, it's since been revealed that Runaways has also been pulled, no longer available on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally as it had been up to this point. As the show hasn't been given a physical release, Runaways is now inaccessible, and the news has some fans of the show feeling unhappy.
A variety of other titles have been removed by Disney+, including Willow, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Turner & Hooch, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, The Mysterious Benedict Society, Magic Camp, Stargirl, Just Beyond, and many more. Actor Kristen Schaal recently responded to the imminent removal of The Mysterious Benedict Society from the Disney+ streaming service, asking fans for tips on how to save it for personal viewing.
On social media, Schaal wrote, "[The Mysterious Benedict Society is] getting pulled tomorrow. Anyone know how to burn a dvd off a streamer so I can show my daughter this show someday?" While some fans responded to the actor with tips on how to copy a video from a streaming service and burn it on a disc, others expressed shock that the show's own actors were unable to get a legitimate copy of the show themselves, meaning they will no longer be unable to view it either after it is removed from Disney+.

In a cost-cutting move, The Walt Disney Company is removing an expansive list of content from Disney+ and Hulu. The removal of series like Turner & Hooch, Willow, and Mighty Ducks: Game Changers did not go over well with Disney+ users who were still upset by the series cancelations. News of the impending removal of the 2018 documentary Howard sparked so much backlash that Disney backtracked on their previous decision and is now keeping the title on Disney+.
Howard chronicles the life of Howard Ashman, a songwriter responsible for songs in Little Shop of Horrors, and Disney's The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. Ashman, who is largely credited as a leader in Disney's Renaissance, was a gay man who lost his battle with AIDS in 1991 when he was only 40 years old. The documentary Howard will not be leaving Disney+ after all.
As part of "strategic changes" to its streaming approach, The Walt Disney Company is planning to remove dozens of titles from Disney+ and Hulu on May 26. A recently-surfaced list revealed some of the shows and specials on the chopping block. Among them was Howard, a documentary about the late Howard Ashman -- a gay, Academy Award-winning songwriter who co-wrote the music for Disney's 1989 animated classic The Little Mermaid. However, Deadline now reports that Howard is indeed staying on Disney+. "The list of titles coming off of Hulu and Disney+ next week is still being finalized," a Disney representative said. This update comes after the company faced backlash for planning to pull an LGBT-focused project like Howard mere days before the beginning of Pride Month.

Disney is going there, you guys.
As previously teased during the company's quarter one earnings call, the company is purging several titles from its streaming services, Disney+ and Hulu.
The practice has become common in recent months, with HBO Max leading the charge, wiping several projects from existence.
Undoubtedly, fans and creatives are struggling with the concept, but maybe some of the affected shows could show up elsewhere.
"We will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms and currently expect to take an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 to $1.8 billion," Disney's chief financial officer, Christine McCarthy, said during the earnings call.
Westworld, The Nevers, and other HBO fare popped back up on Fast services shortly after the controversial decision.
But for some shows, this could be the death knell that could be the difference whether new fans find them down the line.

Disney did a little (late) spring cleaning of its streaming services this week, removing several properties from Disney+ and Hulu. Among those that will go on May 26 include some high profile recent shows like “Willow,” “Y: The Last Man,” “Dollface,” and “The World According to Jeff Goldblum.” What makes this troubling for many home viewers who may have been fans (or even stans!) of the affected programs is that, in most cases, there are no Blu-ray/DVD options. In the old days you could always hit record on your Vcr to build a personal library, but it’s not so easy to capture material from streaming—and the whole point of streaming is not needing to do that, right?
As per The Verge, Disney’s cost-cutting is due to a reduction in Disney+ subscribers, to the tune of 4 million in 2023. While the company will have to pay a “content impairment charge” of over $1.5 billion,...

For Halloween 2021, Disney+ entered the world of R.L. Stine with “Just Beyond,” an 8-episode anthology series based on Stine’s line of comic books. The series never got a second season, with Disney+ leaving its fate hanging in the balance these past two years.
Unfortunately, we’ve learned this week that Stine’s “Just Beyond” will be one of many Disney+ original projects that are soon being deleted from the streaming service entirely.
As The Hollywood Reporter explains, “Disney is following Warner Bros. Discovery and removing under-performing titles from its streaming services in a bid to write off nearly $2 billion from its bottom line. In all, there are more than 30 shows that will be removed starting next week from the platforms in this first round of reductions. The titles will vanish starting May 26.”

Willow writer John Bickerstaff just blasted Disney for delisting the show from Disney+, branding the move "absolutely cruel."
Bickerstaff took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with Disney, noting that Willow was being removed from Disney+ less than six months after its final episode aired. The scribe's tweet also suggested that Willow's treatment was representative of the increasingly harsh climate of the wider film and TV industry. Bickerstaff was one of several writers who contributed to Willow and is credited with co-writing the revival series' third episode, "The Battle of the Slaughtered Lamb," with Wendy Mericle.

Willow and Y: The Last Man are among the titles that Disney will be removing from Disney+ and Hulu. As the streaming industry continues to adapt, certain services have begun to pull content off their platforms, including their own original programming, as a way to cut costs. HBO Max used this strategy with the removal of Westworld, The Nevers, and a number of other popular series. It was recently confirmed that Disney would be taking the same approach with Disney+ and Hulu.
Deadline has now revealed that during a recent Disney earnings call, it was revealed which titles will be removed from Disney+ and Hulu on May 26. A number of well-received television series, movies, and making-of specials will be removed. On Disney+, this includes Willow, The Making of Willow, and The One and Only Ivan. Well, this is just depressing. It was reported last week that Disney would start removing content from their streaming services, and the first casualties have been revealed. The dozens of TV shows and specials from Disney+ and Hulu that will be removed on May 26th include Willow, Big Shot, Y: The Last Man, and many more. R.L. Stine fans, rejoice! We seem to be the middle of a renaissance for projects based on the writing of "The Stephen King of Kids Horror." Thanks to the popularity of Leigh Janiak's terrific "Fear Street" film trilogy, Netflix is reported to be cooking up even more movies based on Stine's slasher-mystery property. There's also a new live-action "Goosebumps" TV show in development at Disney+, which is already home to the lesser-known but genuinely sturdy "Just Beyond" anthology inspired by Stine's genre-blending graphic novel series of the same name.
Elsewhere, shooting is now underway on "Zombie Town," a film based on yet another one of Stine's horror books for younger readers. Published in 2012, the novel follows 12-year-old friends Mike and Karen as they head out to see the titular zombie flick in a theater, only for movie's brain-hungry monsters to lurch off the screen and begin wreaking havoc on their unsuspecting town.

Exclusive: Deadline has a pair of exclusive tracks from composer Carlos Rafael Rivera’s Season 1 soundtrack for HBO Max’s Peabody and multi-Emmy Award-winning comedy series Hacks, which is set for digital release tomorrow via Lakeshore Records.
Renewed for a third season just this morning, the series explores the evolving, dark mentorship between legendary Las Vegas comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and her young, entitled writer Ava (Hannah Einbinder).
Rivera’s evocatively melodic score for Hacks revolves around its character themes for Ava and Deborah, also heard in Season 2. “Other than having the privilege to score themes for the amazing Hacks duo that is Deborah Vance and Ava Daniels, played respectively by the incredibly talented Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, it is great to collaborate with one of the best comedy writing teams in Jen Statsky, Lucia Aniello, and Paul W. Downs,” says the composer of his experience on the series.
