This is one of those new age physiological, mystery thriller films that will have you on the edge of your seat right to the ending. Dark Obsession is about a painter who struggles with inner demons after being forced into a life of solitude when her husband leaves suddenly. The plot starts of a little slow but done intentionally as it gradually picks up pace and theres plenty of unexpected plot twists and a good amount of dialogue that had me entertained. This turned out great and my favorite cast member is Mena Suvari who plays maya. I highly recommend this if your into thriller films. A surprisingly good ending also. Well worth a watch.
I don't think many people are going to get past the main actress's terrible acting. The script is barebones and boring but no worse than a Marvel movie. The plot is predictable but the setting is secluded and spooky. Unfortunately nothing happens plot-wise for the first hour and without any interesting characters or intelligent dialogue a lot of people are going to end up turning it off before the finale. There are hints of schizophrenia and domestic violence brought in toward the end, I repeat, hints, they have no depth. Mena Suvari is apparently doing the voice over for the main character Anne's alter ego, which I see absolutely no point in. I would not recommend this film to anyone.
I consider this as one of those "clan projects", or so I call them. You can identify these projects when you look at the writers, directors and actors and find identical names within those roles. I firmly beleive that as these are close-knit projects, the full cast and producers just invade imdb once the movie is out, and rate them as high as they can and provide astonishingly good reviews. What really fascinates me that this movie is rated 7.2 as of April 2024 after 1,200 ratings, so they did a pretty good job at telling their friends to invade imdb as described above. With this way, even the casual movie watchers who have a very strict criteria of not watching any movies with a ratings below 7 could fall into the trap of watching this one. Anyways, don't get fooled: if you don't like the first 5 minutes, you can easily shut down this film as it doesn't get any better. It ridiculusly beleives it has invented the plot twists of the thriller genre and takes itself 100% seriously. What a joke.
Almost gave up early on as this is a slow burn and Blaine Morris's Anne is hard to warm to. Her sympathetic victim acting needs some real hard work, especially evidenced in her scene opposite Danielle Harris where it is annoyingly apparent who is the queen and who is the wannabe. Glad I kept watching as the plot gets juicy despite some cliche dialogue.
Overall this is well worth a watch. Kept me on the edge of my seat with decent tension and a great ending. Would have rated higher with a stronger lead. Will be interesting to see what George Henry Horton puts out next.
Standout performances from newcomers Leonard Amoia (Henry) who hit a perfect balance of is he or isn't he creepy and Lucy Werner (Maggie) in her darker scenes. Mina Suvari, as expected, stellar.

This film is ideal for a slow-burning movie enthusiast like myself. I have a deep appreciation for this genre, which seems to be a rarity these days, if not almost nonexistent. It's a film that elicits either love or hate reactions. Personally, I found it to be quite enjoyable, featuring remarkable cinematography and moments filled with tension and excitement. This movie truly shines when watched on a larger screen with excellent sound quality. The outstanding sets and lifelike scenery were truly impressive. I found myself enjoying it more than I initially expected. Perhaps you will too! Well done.
