Glee and Pitch Perfect each benefitted from music-loving audiences. While Glee takes place in High School, showing the many different cliques within McKinley High, Pitch Perfect follows the Barden Bellas. Each franchise followed it's respective Glee club and acapella group as they tried to win a Championship.

Both franchises have easy to love characters and comedic moments while also knowing how to use the music in the story well. However, which one would the public say is better? After all, there are things that each series does better than the other.

Ok, Wildcats, it's time to get real. It's been 15 years since High School Musical made its grand debut. The iconic Disney Channel musical spawned a franchise that gave us three films, a Disney+ series adaptation, a stage musical, concert tours, books, and even video games! Jams like "Start of Something New" and "We're All in This Together" will go down as the boppiest bops to ever bop their way to the top! But there's one conversation that's long overdue among HSM fans: Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) deserved better.
I know that seems like a wild statement, especially considering that Troy has it made in every way possible, but it's true. I'm not saying Troy is an innocent cinnamon roll who needs protecting from the world - he definitely plays himself by making terrible decisions that exacerbate drama rather than making things easier - but it isn't all his fault. Despite...

Is it too early to call song of the year? Olivia Rodrigo’s debut single “Drivers License” makes it difficult to not believe that both she and the moving power ballad are meant to completely dominate 2021.
Rodrigo’s nostalgic, piano-assisted song builds slowly as a story about the 17-year-old finally getting her license to drive. But the monumental occasion is soured by her heartbreak: she was supposed to celebrate the accomplishment with her ex, who has moved on to an older blonde that she reveals is “everything I’m insecure about.

Morrissey and David Bowie’s live duet of T. Rex’s “Cosmic Dancer,” recorded at Los Angeles’ Forum in 1991, has been officially released for the first time after years as a widely circulated bootleg recording.
The cover, released digitally Friday, will also serve as the A-side of an upcoming seven-inch single backed by Morrissey’s new 2020 take on the Jam’s “That’s Entertainment,” a song the former Smiths singer previously covered in the early Nineties and subsequently released on his Suedehead compilation. Exclusive: IMDb TV, Amazon’s free, ad-supported streaming service, has put in development High School, a coming-of-age comedy series based on the bestselling memoir by Grammy-nominated, Platinum recording artists Tegan and Sara Quin. It hails from Housebroken co-creator Clea DuVall, Plan B Entertainment and Amazon Studios, where Plan B is under a deal.
Written by DuVall, who also will direct the pilot, High School is a transcendent story of first loves and first songs. Through a backdrop of ’90s grunge and rave culture, the series tangles itself in the parallel and discordant memories of two sisters growing up down the hall from one another. This is a story about finding your own identity — a journey made even more complicated when you have a twin whose own struggle and self-discovery so closely mimics your own.

If you watch both movies in quick succession, it becomes very obvious: High School Musical was the Millennials' version of Grease. The plots were even nearly identical. A guy and girl meet on vacation. Sparks fly. Girl transfers to a new school and, gasp! There's the guy she met on vacation! But oh no - they're from different cliques. Though their friends work to pull them apart and keep the social hierarchy intact, their love can't be denied, and in the end, everybody joins in song.

High School Musical is one of the most popular musical franchises to ever exist. It brought a love of music to a generation and changed how people viewed Disney made-for-television movies. What made High School Musical so special was its elite cast that came from all different backgrounds and personalities. No two are alike and 'we should accept everyone into the fold' was kind of the premise of the movies.

We're calling it now: Julie and the Phantoms is about to become the next big musical phenomenon. After directing iconic Disney Channel franchises, like High School Musical and Descendants, Kenny Ortega is making musical magic yet again with his latest Netflix project. The series, which is based on the Brazilian series of the same name, follows a young girl named Julie (Madison Reyes) with a passion for singing who ends up befriending a musical group of ghosts. What results is a crazy journey, filled with heartwarming storylines and flashy performances.
While the new series stays true to the original in "spirit and in basic concept," Ortega notes he was given a lot of freedom to make it his own. "The producers of the original Julie e os Fantasmas said, 'Take liberty and have your experience with this title,'" he told Popsugar. "So, we were given a no boundaries kind...

“Titicut Follies,” “High School,” “Ex Libris,” “In Jackson Heights,” and so many more. Documentary master Frederick Wiseman, at 90 years old, has turned out many of the greatest nonfiction films of all time — patiently unfolding, intimate, and deeply researched portraits of places and people, and what they can tell us about American life on a grander scale. His 43rd film, “City Hall” immerses audiences in the municipality of his hometown of Boston to illustrate a government taking care of its diverse citizens, all against the backdrop of an eroding democracy in the United States. Exclusive to IndieWire, watch the first trailer for the film below.
The four-and-a-half-hour “City Hall” first debuted out of competition at the Venice Film Festival in September, followed by a North American premiere in Toronto this month, and then landing at the New York Film Festival, long a favorite venue for Wiseman’s works. Here’s an...

This review of Julie and the Phantoms contains no spoilers.
Probably the only thing you need to know about Julie and the Phantoms before going in is that its executive producer is Kenny Ortega. If that doesn’t instantly ring a bell – well, he’s the guy who directed the High School Musical movies, the Descendants movies, and, of course, the evergreen Halloween classic Hocus Pocus. This nine-part supernatural teen drama is the first of his projects for Netflix, and it’s just as charming, warm, and finger-snappingly musical as you’d expect.
Julie (newcomer Madison Reyes) is a 15-year-old singer-songwriter who recently lost her mother. Her grief has put a damper on her creativity, and as a result she’s close to getting kicked out of her school’s prestigious music program. Then she meets cute up-and-coming indie rock band Sunset Curve and rediscovers her voice. Her teachers are impressed,...

RiffTrax covers many major motion pictures, but some of them need you to track down a copy of the movie and sync it up. We're here to help.
Since its inception in 2006, RiffTrax has been about picking up the ball dropped from Mystery Science Theater 3000’s cancellation and running with it, because even if TV executives found it unnecessary, the fanbase was still there. People wanted their riff content. RiffTrax started off with the simple idea that you could legally go full MST3K on a mainstream motion picture as long as you simply released the mp3 with directions of how to sync it up.
In other words, want to see Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines get made fun of? Just pay a couple bucks for the mp3, get a copy of the movie, and know when to press play. It’s a couple extra steps,...

Tegan and Sara visited The Late Show Friday – the day both their new album Hey, I’m Just Like You and memoir High School were released – to perform “I’ll Be Back Someday” and sit down with Stephen Colbert to discuss the projects.
“We wanted to write our origin story,” Sara Quin told Colbert. “We started writing our first songs at 15 so we wanted to write that story. And then, it wasn’t just a music memoir; it really started to be about our identity as twin sisters, and as songwriters,...

Damien Chazelle’s go-to editor since the time when Whiplash was just a short, Oscar winner Tom Cross threw out the musical playbook for First Man, tapping into a documentary approach he honed early in his career and had long since left behind. Crafting a brutally immersive, subjective experience, which would document Neil Armstrong’s efforts to get to the moon—and the many intense experiences he went through to set foot on that soil—Chazelle employed a range of filmic formats, purposefully messy photography and jagged cuts, to reflect not only the stunning nature of space flight, but also the inner turbulence experienced by a man of few words, dealing with a loss he couldn’t shake.
On First Man, Cross found himself gravitating toward a visual approach he would have never previously thought to apply. “There were stylistic moments and certain organic camera elements that I found value in,...

Take one look at Wyatt Russell — the shaggy blond hair, the Southern California drawl, those blues eyes, that beard that sometimes fluctuates between handsomely masculine to Father-John-Misty bushy — and you can see why folks might want to cast him as a stoner heartthrob. To be fair, he does not necessarily have a problem with that. “Look, man, smoking weed is great!” the 32-year-old actor says, chuckling. The publicist sitting 10 feet away from Russell looks up from his phone for a second, shooting him a look that veers between friendly and dude-what-the-fuck-did-you-just-say-to-a-journalist?...
