This show has been in progress since 2006. The director, Amr Salama, first contacted Dr. Ahmed Khaled Tawfik in 2006 via e-mail and asked him if they can meet to pitch to him his ideas about turning the books into a TV show. Although Salama was still not famous and he didn't have a single movie released, only short films, Dr. Tawfik agreed.
The series is based on the series of novels by the Egyptian writer Ahmed Khaled Tawfiq, which has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide
