Adult Swim has always maintained a positive relationship with syndicated content. After all, its reruns of Family Guy and Futurama played a part in bringing both these shows back from the dead. Since then, Adult Swim has regularly seen the likes of Fox shows, forgotten comedies, and otherwise obscure productions filling its oddball programming schedule. It did for a while, at least. Licensing deals for multiple prominent shows are now expiring, meaning we may witness the world of streaming and cable going full circle with Adult Swim's latest schedule addition.
Ten Year Old Tom, a series formerly exclusive to Max, is now airing on Adult Swim. Granted, it was already a perfect fit for Adult Swim's lineup. Subdued improvisational comedy, limited animation, and an overall sense of eccentricity make for a perfect addition to a relaxing night of cartoons. As Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements ramp up the output from their Tomorrow Studios shingle, they’ve identified the first project they plan to bring out via their new deal with Julia Garner.
Garner and her producing partner Rowan Riley, via their company Alma Margo, sealed a first-look deal with Tomorrow earlier this year. Their first series will be a drama about an international jewel heist titled “Balabusta.”
“She’s very engaged and involved in every step of the way,” Adelstein said of Garner. “That’s probably one of the best deals we’ve ever made. We’re really happy to be in business with her.”
Garner, of course, is on a roll, having scored Emmy nominations this week in both lead actress in a limited series (for “Inventing Anna”) and supporting actress in a drama (for “Ozark”). Garner already has two Emmys, having won for “Ozark” in 2019 and 2020 in the supporting drama actress field.

“Ten Year Old Tom” has been renewed for a second season at HBO Max.
The announcement was made during a panel at Rooster Teeth’s Rtx Festival, a convention dedicated to podcasting, video games and animation.
The animated series is created by Steve Dildarian, and is a spiritual successor to his HBO series “The Life and Times of Tim.” The show follows Tom, an average kid struggling to navigate childhood who is surrounded by well-meaning adults with questionable guidance. Season 1 consisted of 10 30-minute episodes, each of which consisted of two quarter-hour segments.
Dildarian writes and directs the series in addition to voicing Tom. Established by the TV academy in 2008, the Best Short Form Animated Program Emmy category is designed to recognize animated works with runtimes of 15 minutes or less. The inaugural award went to “Camp Lazlo” (for the episode “Lazlo’s First Crush”), one year after it received the Best Animated Program prize for its one-hour special, “Where’s Lazlo?.” Current rules state that submissions in this category must be targeted at audiences aged 13 and above, while series or specials made for younger viewers are relegated to the Children’s and Family Emmys.
The 2022 Best Short Form Animated Program ballot list below consists of 18 entries. Per category rules, all are either one-off specials or single episodes of continuing series. Seeking their third victory is the team behind “Love, Death + Robots,” who just triumphed last year with the episode “Ice.” Also in the hunt is “Robot Chicken,” which holds the record for most wins in the category with three,...

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) made history as the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2022 Best Character Voice-Over ballot list below consists of a whopping 222 performances. Seeking a third consecutive victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

Two Phase 1 Timelines

The nomination committee began deliberations on Nov. 16, and the TV nominations will be announced on Dec. 6. In contrast, film branch members of the organization won’t receive their nominating ballots until the next day, Dec. 7, with the deadline of midnight Pt Dec. 10 to return film ballots.

With the majority of big global TV distributors opting out of a physical presence at Mipcom, the flashy stands have been replaced by snazzy digital platforms showcasing content rolling out starting this fall.
Among them are a series of virtual festivals by Banijay, which acquired Endemol Shine in summer 2020 and boasts a catalog of more than 88,000 hours of programming. Rather than join Mipcom organizer Reed Midem’s virtual Mipcom Online Plus event, the mega-indie is going its own way, as are so many other distributors.
The latest of its planned digital forays is a non-English language scripted festival designed to showcase the group’s eclectic mix of European dramas. These include six-part French show “Germinal,” a modern adaptation of Émile Zola’s classic 1985 coal-mining strike saga; Swedish boarding-school drama “A Class Apart”; and Italian coming-of-age series “My Ballerina,” a co-production with Italy’s Mediaset.
