Madaari, the thriller directed by Nishikant Kamat which opens on 10 June will feature Irrfan Khan as a vigilante seeking non-legal redress for a flyover that comes crashing down in a busy part of Mumbai. For the first time director Nishikant Kamat admits that the film is based on the ghastly collapse of an under-construction metro bridge in Andheri Mumbai on September 4, 2012. But Kamat says the real-life accident is the triggering point for the plot. "The incident is just a backdrop. My film is plotted around the repercussions of this incident." The director doesn't deny the real-life parallel. "Madaari is about an under-construction metro bridge which fell a couple of years back in Andheri, Mumbai. But if you recollect my 2008 film Mumbai Meri Jaan, it also was based on the backdrop of a tragic catastrophe, namely the Mumbai train bombings on July 11, 2006. But the film was about human emotions. As usual...

Not much has been changed in the Hindi remake of the Malayalam-Tamil-Kannada blockbuster Drishyam. Says director Nishikant Kamat, "I've retained a lot of the original. The biggest re-tweaking we did was in the playing time. While the original film is 3 hours long I've cut down Drishyam to just over 2 1/2 hours. The seaside location of the original is in Drishyam, though I've relocated the drama to Goa."
There are embellishments in the Hindi version of Drishyam. Says Nishikant, "I've also added things to the plot that were not there in the original. There is that whole sequence of Ajay Devgn in the Atm booth where he makes sure the CCTV captures him. Tabu's interval point entry was not there in the original."
The director is all praise for his actors. "Ajay was willing to completely surrender to play the middleclass family man. Not once did he demand a fight or stunt just to appease his fans.

Filmmakers are no longer willing to abide by the multiplex schedules of no more than 2 hours of playing-time for each screen. It's known as the samosa-and-popcorn time scheme, as a longish interval is inserted into the 2-hour feature for the cafeteria at the multiplexes to flourish. The two July blockbusters Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, each with a playing-time of nearly 3 hours, have changed the rules. Now, a third July film Drishyam will surpass the 2-hour time-limit. Producers Viacom 18 and director Nishikant Kamat are determined to keep intact the 2 hour 39 minute length of the eagerly-awaited thriller Drishyam, although by multiplex yardsticks, it is considered unfashionable for a film's running-time to go beyond two hours. "But, I am fighting to retain every minute of my edited footage, because I feel every film has its own rhythm. We cannot hurry it. Drishyam is not a routine thriller. It's a gripping story. But the...

The trailer of Ajay Devgn and Tabu starrer Drishyam has just been unleashed and here is one word to describe the entire feel of the film - Gripping! The well cut first trailer has already impressed us and it seems Drishyam will be a profitable venture for all. Well, there are reasons enough that prove Ajay Devgn truly has a winner in hands with Drishyam. Take a look:
Ajay Devgn as 'common man':After displaying his snazzy and stylish side in last few flicks, Ajay steps slips into the character of 'common man'. He plays an 'aam siddha saadha aadmi', a 4th grade dropout cable operator, who leads a happy life with his family until struck by some unforeseen events. It's a refreshing change to see Ajay as common man on-screen and the audience would well connect with him.

We happened to catch the trailer of Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran starrer Drishyam and were very impressed by it.
A good trailer is one which makes you want to watch the film and Drishyam's trailer does exactly that. Ajay Devgn plays a 'normal seedha saada aadmi' with a wife and two daughters. He's accused of abducting Tabu's (who's playing a cop) son. The well cut trailer teases you to get to the bottom of the mystery. And it's a joy to see 'Ruk Ruk Ruk' pair Ajay Devgn and Tabu back!
A remake of the Malayalam film of the same name, Drishyam also stars Shriya Saran. It's directed by Nishikant Kamat (Mumbai Meri Jaan, 404 Error Not Found and Force) and is scheduled to release on 31st July 2015. The trailer of the film will be out on 4th June.

After having delivered a resonating performance in his last film Haider, the maverick actor Irrfan Khan is back in the news. This time round, it's for a film titled Madaari, which he has signed up for none other than director Nishikant Kamat. This film is supposed to be a hard-hitting social thriller which has a strong emotional connect. Readers may recall that this is the second time when Irrfan is working with Nishikant, the first time being the cult film Mumbai Meri Jaan. Speaking about the film, Irrfan Khan said that he developed a deep bond with Nishikant when they were shooting for Mumbai Meri Jaan, and that he had been eager to work with him again since then. That's why when Madaari was offered to him, he instantly agreed. On the other hand, Nishikant said that, after Mumbai Meri Jaan, we had to wait for the right script to work with each other again.

John has no leading lady in his next project Rocky Handsome. But it's not because his characters loves only himself. Informs Nishikant, "Apart from John there is one other pivotal character, a male associate to John's character. And they share very close bonding. But no leading lady, not even for the songs. I will have three songs in the film. But they'd all be in background." Not that Nishikant is uncomfortable with songs. "I didn't have lip-sync songs in any of my earlier films until recently in my Marathi film Lai Bhaari which Riteish Deshmukh has produced. He also plays the lead. Though it's not a comedy it's a much lighter film than my earlier films Mumbai Meri Jaan, Force or my first film Dombivali Fast which was in Marathi." Kamat feels the glamour, songs and cast including the female lead must not be dictated by the box office. "I do understand numbers.

If the very talented Irrfan Khan is no longer voluntarily unemployed, he has John Abraham to thank for it. John was supposed to start his next film Rocky Handsome with director Nishikant Kamat this month. However the dates for Kamat's film clashed with Anees Bazmee's Welcome Back. Nishikant has quickly started another film starring Irrfan Khan about a common man's fight against corruption The film is said to be inspired by Arvind Kejriwal's aam aadmi movement. Says director Nishikant Kamat, "When John was unable to shoot with me, I was at a loose end. Suddenly everything fell into place. I had this script for two years that I wanted to make with Irrfan in the lead. And look at the coincidence! Irrfan had his dates diary empty. He was on the look-out for a film that would interest him. I guess this project was destined to happen." The untitled...

Most exciting of all is the Shoojit Sircar's film which brings Irrfan face-to-face with Big B for the first time. Says Irrfan "Can you believe it, during all these years in the film industry, I've never worked with Bachchan Saab or with Naseer Saab! Lekin script bhi toh honi chahiye! The screenplay has to justify our coming together. Finally I am working with Bachchan Saab in Shoojit's film." At the moment Irrfan is shooting for a film with the Mumbai Meri Jaan director Nishikant Kamath. Says Irrfan cryptically, "It's a project which we've been mulling over for some time. Actor Kay Kay says the current obsession of filmmakers with marketing is very funny, but very sad also..You are only interested in marketing. You are not making cinema but gathering star surnames, making a project and that we.ll think about the story and other things later,. he told reporters on the sideline of an event. He feels filmmakers. dependency on item numbers is unfair..They (filmmakers) proudly say that the item number made my film a hit. Then why did you make the film? You should have made an item number, or a music video separately. So these things are very funny, but very sad also,. he said.Kay Kay lauds Irrfan Khan, Manoj Bajpayee and Naseeruddin Shah as true actors and says it.s sad that they are not given star status..In terms of percentage, out of 100 only five percent are actors, rest 95 percent are fake.

The season of remakes continues with Force which stars John Abraham and Genelia D’Souza in lead roles. The film’s a remake of Tamil film Kaakha Kaakha starring Surya (Rakht Charitra) and Joytika (Doli Sajake Rakhna) which was also remade in Telugu as Gharsana. While the Tamil and Telugu versions were directed by Gautum Menon, the Hindi remake is being directed by Nishikanth Kamath (Mumbai Meri Jaan). One thing that remains the same is that Harris Jayaraj (Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein) who has composed for original and the Telugu remake, has also composed and produced the music of Force. Meanwhile, Javed Akhtar has penned the lyrics.
The album is made up of 5 tracks, one of which is a bonus track composed by Lalit Sen seemingly unrelated to the movie. Surprisingly, no remixes. It features the vocal talents of Shreya Ghosal (‘Bahara’ – I Hate Luv Storys), K.K (Mere Brother Ki Dulhan...

Bollywood stars often complain of intrusive questions from the media and controversies created by their reporting. But actresses Divya Dutta and Shahana Goswami say their respect for mediapersons has grown manifold after playing journalists on screen. Divya and Shahana are playing journalists in the forthcoming movies 'Monica' and 'Game' respectively. 'Playing a journalist in 'Monica' helped me see a very interesting facet of being a political journalist wherein you get to enter the corridors of the political setup of the country and ask about anything! It made me realise what a powerful zone the mediapersons are in,' Divya told Ians on phone from Mumbai. 'I've always looked up to women journalists like Barkha Dutt, who are strong and intelligent. But I respect them even more now,' added Divya, whose character in the film is extremely ambitious and bold. Shahana, who is essaying a crime reporter in Abhinay Deo's thriller 'Game',...

Despite a recent accident where John Abraham fell on a heap of stones and an injury scare that followed; his Force is well on track. In fact, the film's producer Vipul Shah states that there won't be any change in the shooting schedule despite Force being marred with mishaps at regular intervals ever since it was launched late last year. "Yes, John did meet with an accident but that shouldn't hamper the progress of Force. We are going ahead with full force. Pun intended", laughs Shah when questioned if he was now having any nervous bouts due to the recent incident. Of course Vipul was nervous early on when the incident actually took place a few days back when John had to perform a stunt scene on two moving trains. However, since a major portion of the film has already been shot and Force is well marching towards completion, Vipul...

Almost eleven years back in the summer of Mumbai, me and a couple of friends meandered through a few shabby lanes in search for a ‘home’. We were all new to ‘Bombay’, graduates from ‘Calcutta’ looking for something in our lives. I did manage to scrape through to Pune, months later, which in those days used to remain a bit laid-back as compared to Bombay and more to my liking. But Bombay didn’t spare me. My girlfriend then was in Bombay and so I visited the city alternate weeks – from Vile Parle to Dadar, from Cst to Santa Cruz, to my friends in Borivli and my cousin at Anushaktinagar. Why so much of a personal gibberish? Cause the film which re-winded my memories is indeed personal – for me, and for many migrants like me who wanted to cope with her – Mumbai to all and Bombay to few including me.

Recently, Asin announced loud and clear that she wasn't doing the Hindi remake of Kakka Kakka. One always wondered what went wrong though, considering the fact that when producer Vipul Shah announced this film with John in the lead and Nishikant Kamat (of Mumbai Meri Jaan) as a director, Asin's name had made it to the top of the list as the preferred choice for the leading lady. Since the experienced actress from down South had already worked with Vipul in the past (London Dreams)...

He's come a long way from his big screen debut in Mani Ratnam's Tamil blockbuster Alaipayuthey, which was remade with Vivek Oberoi in the same role as Saathiya back in 2000 by Shaad Ali. But R. Madhavan, Maddy for short, has proved his mettle time and again, and with Guru, the well-deserved recognition he had been aiming for started to finally come in.
Although Madhavan hasn't been seen in Hindi as much as he has in the South, the actor has been commended for his acting in Rang De Basanti, Mumbai Meri Jaan, 13B and 3 Idiots. Beyond the big screen, he features in mobile games launched by Paradox Studios Limited, is an active member of PETA and other social causes, and has dabbled his hand at hosting game shows too. Phew! September 1, 2010: The casting of the leading lady opposite John Abraham in the Hindi remake of the Tamil blockbuster ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ had producer Vipul Shah, director Nishikant (‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’) Kamat and leading man John Abraham climbing collectively up the nearest wall.
First it was Asin who had been signed. But then she chose to give away her dates to the Salman Khan starrer ‘Ready’ directed by Anees Bazmi.
Desperate for a heroine, Vipul Shah’s spirits soared when his ‘London Dreams’ heroine Katrina Kaif was suddenly with free.

Download image as wallpaper It's a common adage that 'The only thing that's constant is Change'. One has seen many a Bollywood star getting replaced in films and also brand endorsements, for many varied reasons. The latest in this category is that of Genelia D'Souza replacing Asin in the Hindi remake of the mega hit Tamil film Kakha Kakha. It will now be Genelia and not Asin, who will be seen romancing the hunky John Abraham. For starters, the original Tamil film Kakha Kakha was directed by Gautham Menon and had starred two of Tamil Nadu's heartthrobs Surya and Jyothika. While Vipul Shah wanted to make the film in Hindi, it was Nishikant Kamath (who had directed Mumbai Meri Jaan) who was chosen as the director. Known for his intense acts during last one decade, courtesy his roles in films like Black Friday, Gulaal, Shaurya, Strangers, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Life In A Metro, Corporate and Sarkar to name a few, Kay Kay Menon hasn't really let himself loose in front of the camera. Ok, so there has been an occasional Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd, where he has worn his comic avtar. However, box office non-performance of films like Aagey Se Rig...

Feb 4, 2010: ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’s director, Nishikanth Kamat, has taken up the lead role in ‘Room No 404’, directed by Prawaal Raman. This is because he wants to take some time out from scripting and the pre-production work of his next directorial venture, starring John Abraham. His role in the film is that of a young college professor suffering from bipolar disorder. The film is shooting in Dehradun. Nishikanth’s reasons for taking up the film were obviously because he needed a break from scripting and also because he was very impressed with the subject of ‘Room No 404’.
