Contestants have the potential to walk away with £160,000 if they land on all seven experts "in gold" and get the answer right (total £70,000), all the experts give correct answers in the Moneyspinner round (£10,000), and if the contestant teams up with the lowest-scoring expert (double the prize pot).
A computer selects where the Wheel's arrow will land before each spin, with "thousands" of positions it could end up. It is carried out independently by industry leader Beyond Dispute, who oversees programmes like 5 Gold Rings and The Chase.
Michael McIntyre came up with two ideas for game shows while in the bath, including The Wheel, "One of the ideas was not so good. That's on the back burner. But the other was what I called The Wheel."
The main theme was composed by Paul Farrer, who has composed some of the most recognisable TV themes, including The Weakest Link, The Chase and Dancing On Ice.
The Wheel design took inspiration from the chairs on the Jedi Council in Star Wars. Michael Mcintyre's son was watching Star Wars during COVID lockdown and thought it looked so impressive.
