Multihyphenate actor, writer, and director Jason Trost danced his way into hearts as Jtro in “Beat Beat Revelation” in apocalyptic cult gem The Fp, and he’s leveling up his with his new video game-inspired horror feature, The Waves of Madness.
We can exclusively reveal the new trailer and poster below from Umbrella Entertainment.
Visionary writer/director Jason Trost uniquely blends classic horror influences with the latest in digital filmmaking technology, forging a new frontier in modern independent cinema. While touted as the first side-scrolling horror adventure film, pulling from classic video game influences, The Waves of Madness is also inspired by the timeless terror of 1930s monster movies.
The Waves of Madness follows “a special agent dispatched to investigate a distress call from a round-the-world cruise. Upon arrival, the agent finds the ship eerily abandoned and haunted by a malevolent force that distorts reality and warps sanity into terror.

Plot: A legendary family of rhythm game warriors must battle their way deep into the future to save what remains of a booze fueled humanity from a horrific calamity that threatens to turn them all stone cold sober 4 Evz.
Review: I feel like I need to state right from the jump that I had never heard of The Fp series before this entry. I also didn’t realize that it had such a fervent fandom that there have been two other sequels. So there’s clearly something that people really attach to with these films. But I also wanted to make sure to put it out there in that I’m not aware of the callbacks or fan service going on. Which means I may sounds like an ignorant dummy at points. If anything though, that means I can say whether this works as a standalone work or if you...

"The final battle for the Fp." XYZ Films has revealed an official trailer the next film in the ongoing indie sci-fi action comedy series The Fp, continuing with Fp - 4Evz arriving this February. It's skipping theaters and heading to VOD directly. This is a follow-up to the other sequels FP2: Beats of Rage (2018) and FP3: Remix Revelation / Escape from Bako (2021). A legendary family of rhythm game warriors must battle their way deep into the future to save what remains of a booze fueled humanity from a horrific calamity that threatens to turn them all stone cold sober 4 Evz. Jason Trost returns again as Jtro, with Tallay Wickham, Art Hsu, Lib Campbell, Ryan Gibson, Mike O'Gorman, and Bru Muller. This next one looks uber trippy, borrowing from Scott Pilgrim and Star Wars of course, with all the expected low budget sci-fi touches. I'm surprised one of the Trosts...

"Who wants the first dance!?" Well Go USA has debuted an official trailer for an indie video game sci-fi action movie titled Max Cloud, though the original full title is The Intergalactic Adventures of Max Cloud. This looks like a goofy, comedic play on The Last Starfighter, about a gamer girl who gets sucked into her favorite side-scroller game. She's transported into a crashed space cruiser on a planet that is home to an intergalactic prison. Her friend on the outside must help her finish the game. The film stars Scott Adkins as Max Cloud, plus Isabelle Allen, Tommy Flanagan, Lashana Lynch, Elliot Langridge, Sally Collett, Franz Drameh, and John Hannah. This looks like wacky video game fun! Reminds me of the Trost Bros' The Fp with its clunky sci-fi style. Might be a good casual watch with friends on the weekend. Here's the first official trailer (+ two posters) for Martin Owen's Max Cloud,...

While elder brother Brandon has gone on to ply his trade in the studio system as a cinematographer, younger brother Jason has continued to work in the indie scene, writing and directing other feature films since then. Jason has been working on the sequel to The Fp, called Beats of Rage and is looking to fans and supporters to back the Indiegogo campaign to help finish the film. Mad Max with Dance Dance Revolution. It was back in 2011 that the Trost Brothers first burst into the public eye with cinematic oddity The Fp. A bizarre post-apocalyptic beast, The Fp was essentially took the world of The Warriors and had the rival gangs fighting for control settle their disputes with high impact matches of Dance Dance Revolution. Yup, it's weird. And gloriously so. And now Jason Trost wants to do it again. I'll let him speak for himself:jtro here. Check it. The Fp was my passion project. Well it’s that time of year again – the one where websites across the globe churn out Top 10 list after top ten list. So why should we be any different?! Yet whilst we may be following the predictable end of year lists, I can guarantee that my list is anything but predictable, featuring films from across the globe: including the Us, Canada, Italy, Australia, New Zealand and even good old Blighty!
This year more than ever there has been film after film that knocked it out of the park for me – which is why my Top 10 list has Two sections: the Top 10 and then the pick of 35(!) more brilliant movies (I would have loved this list to be a Top 45, honestly). So what’s my criteria? Well it has to be a movie I’ve seen this year, one that was released this year, i.e. making its UK debut,...

There are very few film makers working today who have the same filmic sensibilities as me, whose work resonates with me the most – be it because I can see influences in their work that inspired me or be it that they’re just as demented as me (and I mean that in a good way). In fact I can count them on one hand: The Astron-6 guys, Dustin Mills, Kaare Andrews, Pearry Teo and Jason Trost. I was lucky enough to get in touch with Jason Trost, who you can see in This Is The End, playing a cannibalistic survivor of the apocalypse. The second he popped up on-screen, I may or may not have said “I just interviewed that dude!” to my group of unimpressed friends who are never impressed by anyone I’ve interviewed. Not even Tommy Wiseau.
Anyways, if you haven’t seen this dude’s work, you’re missing out. The Fp is nothing short of brilliant and All Superheroes Must Die has become one of my favorite superhero films ever made. It’s a testament to the dude’s ability both in front of and behind the camera that the work he’s generated has been thoroughly enjoyable.

Cinematographer Wally Pfister continues to add cast members to his directorial debut Transcendence (which is totally different than Interstellar, directed by Pfister.s frequent collaborator Christopher Nolan). The latest actor to join the fray, according to Variety, is Clifton Collins Jr., whose credits include Parker, The Fp and Bennett Miller.s Oscar-winning Capote. Collins joins an impressive ensemble. Pfister already hired Johnny Depp for the film.s leading role. He.ll be surrounded by Morgan Freeman, Kate Mara, Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany and Cillian Murphy. Many worked with Pfister and Nolan on the Batman trilogy, so it makes a bit of sense as to why the director would lure familiar faces to his directorial debut. We just don.t know exactly what they.ll be doing. Pfister.s taking a page out of Nolan.s playbook by keeping most details about his movie under tight wraps. We basically understand that...

What makes a superhero super? Is it their moral character, or their fantastic powers that allow them to vanquish all villains? What if their powers were lost and the very reason for their existence was suddenly drained from them? All Superheroes Must Die is now out on Blu-ray and DVD, from Image Entertainment, and in honor of the release, Wamg decided to take a look at the other side of superheroes… the not so damsel in distress.

(Movies fail at the box office, and many more fail to even find release into theaters. When one of these dead on arrival titles arrives on disc they go under the knife of the forensic video-examiner, all in the hope of determining the causes of death in the marketplace. Be forewarned any who wish to see the film – this piece is entirely a Spoiler.) This film, originally titled “Vs”, came to light in the fall of 2011, at the Toronto After Dark Festival. It fought for attention, battled indifference, and ultimately in its quest to vanquish good taste it triumphed over apathy and found distribution into the home market. The film is conceived entirely by filmmaker Jason Trost, who previously rose with a cult hit “The Fp”, which was set in a dystopian future and pitted rival clans competing in a Dance-Dance-Revolution battle for control of a region -- to...

Season Two of Fangoria and The Nerdist's behind-the-scenes special FX web series is currently underway. Last week host and metal icon Scott Ian visited effects coordinator and pyro maestro Ron Trost (Scream 2, The Lords Of Salem, The Fp). As winter settles in, many are currently frustrated by massively inclement weather. Here's some peace of mind.

I’ve been following All Superheroes Must Die ever since it was originally being marketed as Vs, so you can say I’ve been anticipating B-Movie specialist Jason Trost’s Saw/superhero hybrid for an awful long time. Why? Because ever since I saw Trost’s short The Fp, which eventually spawned the feature film I absolutely fell in love with, I just couldn’t ignore anything this guy was working on. I mean, he wears an eye-patch and won’t tell anyone why. How are you not following his every move?!
Hearing about the abstract concept of All Superheroes Must Die, I was immediately hooked from the start, and I wasn’t kidding about the whole Saw aspect either. Four superheroes wake up in different parts of a generic town, only to find their arch enemy Rickshaw (James Remar) has scattered innocent civilians around the town who need saving.

All Superheroes Must Die follows four masked avengers - Charge (Trost), Cutthroat (Till), The Wall (Lee Valmassy) and Shadow (Sophie Merkley) -- who find themselves stripped of their powers by their arch-nemesis (Remar), whom they defeated years earlier ... or so they thought. When the sinister mastermind puts the heroes through a series of brutal challenges that are virtually impossible to overcome, they must battle the clock - and even each other - in a race to stop a deadly countdown that could mean total destruction. I’ve been wanting to see writer/director/star/chauffeur Jason Trost’s “All Superheroes Must Die” (originally working the film festival circuit under the much cooler sounding “Vs”) for some time now. The idea of a gritty superhero movie pitting a small band of vigilantes against their greatest foe in a life-and-death final battle sounds like a swell premise. Turns out, these aren’t non-powered vigilantes as I had expected/wanted, but rather actual superheroes with, you know, superpowers. But because this is a low-budget superhero movie, rather than show off cheesy special effects, Trost has instead written the powers out of the movie. Clever, clever boy, that Trost. Known primarily as one of the two men responsible for the festival comedy hit “The Fp” (in which Trost co-wrote/co-directed/co-starred/co-danced with brother Brandon Trost), Jason Trost goes it solo on “All Superheroes Must Die”. The film is...

With the end of the year just around the corner, it’s time to get ready for the onslaught of cinema that awaits us in 2013. While it’s likely most of the films coming out after the Mayan apocalypse won’t be home run classics, there’s still a huge palette of interesting and bombastic movies waiting for us in the coming year. There’s a lot of big studio blockbusters and a good helping of smaller films that all look like they’ll be worth checking out.
With that, here’s a list of forty films (in the order of their release dates) that have sparked this author’s curiosity and should get you looking forward to another year at the multiplex.

Here's a couple of trailers for a very dark looking indie superhero movie called All Superheroes Must Die. It's described as Kick-Ass meets Saw, and it tells the "twisted tale about four young superheroes forced by their arch-nemesis to complete a series of deadly challenges in order to save innocent lives." The heroes are forced to compete against each other in the process as well.
This looks like a fun movie that's sparked my interest. I think it will be worth checking out. Jason Trost (The Fp) wrote, directed and stars in the film along with James Remar (Dexter) and Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class). The movie will be released on January 29th, 2012 on DVD, Blu-Ray, VOD and iTunes. Watch the trailers and let us know if it's a film you'd want to check out!

Hatchet III will be released next year and Kristian had a chance to talk with director Bj McDonnell about the making of the movie. Continue reading to learn how he ended up taking over for Adam Green on the sequel, the challenges he encountered filming in New Orleans, and what kind of kills we can expect from Victor Crowley this time around:
What made you decide to take over directorial duties for Hatchet III?
Bj McDonnell: What made me want to come and be a part of Hatchet III was that I was involved with all of the other Hatchet movies. The funny thing was that Adam [Green] and I were talking about who was going to do Hatchet III.

Even though he may not be a name you immediately recognize, producer Jason Blum is well on his way to becoming one of the more prolific producers of modern genre fare and for very good reason - he knows what it takes to get under people's skin and scare the crap out of them.
Over the last few years, Blum has produced under his Blumhouse shingle the entire Paranormal Activity series, Insidious, The Fp, Lawless and Sinister as well as the upcoming genre projects The Lords of Salem, The Bay, Area 51 and potentially Insidious 2 once that project gets under way.
Not content with just scaring audiences in movie theaters, Blum recently embarked on an all-new haunted attraction in Downtown Los Angeles - the Blumhouse of Horrors - which takes victims through a haunted theater set in the 1930's, bearing witness to a murder mystery and a love triangle gone horribly wrong.

Brothers Brandon and Jason Trost have put everything into their passion project titled The Fp. It’s a bizarre tale about two rival gangs that battle it out not with weapons, but with dancing. The Fp takes the popular game Dance, Dance, Revolution to the next level, introducing a whole new wacky world, full of over-the-top characters and scenarios. I can see where the Trost Bros. were going; I just didn’t have as much fun watching it as they did making it.
Sometime in the near post apocalyptic future two rival gangs rule a small town. They battle it out over a dancing video game, which rewards the winner with the props and whatever other cool shit people like to throw around when they’ve beaten someone at something. Jtro (Jason Trost) loses a friend to the deadly game and vows to never return again, but as the days go by things get worse.

To call The Fp over the top would be a massive understatement; here is a film that takes its premise, story, dialogue and characterization to the edge of camp and then jumps over the edge screaming with joy. Following in the footsteps of films like Dodgeball, which achieve ridiculousness by placing real stakes on a silly game, The Fp taps into a world where the height of street cred comes from success at a dancing video game not unlike Dance Dance Revolution. Within that world, two rival gangs battle it out to techno beats with a story of an underdog coming back from despair all while mixing in odd visual themes. If you can’t stomach all the cheese that brother director duo Brandon and Jason Trost layered on their sloppily edited and thinly plotted, saucily spoken story – then you best stay away. For everyone else, The Fp is 80-minutes of comically overwrought drama.

Jason Trost, the eyepatched young co-writer/director/star of The Fp (available now on DVD and Blu-ray), appears in the Bj McDonnell-directed Hatchet 3, which wrapped photography in Louisiana on Sunday. He talked exclusively with Dread Central from the set about The Fp, going wild in the swamps, and what's next on his slate.
"I play Deputy Hamilton in Hatchet 3," he reveals, walking through a rain-drenched Louisiana swamp. The skies have opened up this afternoon and turned the once-dry roads leading in and out of the marsh into a near-impassable sludge. "He's a no bullshit Southern dude who's in the wrong place at the wrong time and just needs to get to the bottom of the case he's been thrown into."
No stranger to roughing it after the years-long battle to get The Fp made, Trost laughs off any misconceptions about how hard it is shooting in an actual Louisiana swamp.
