When OpenAI unveiled technology called Sora last year that lets people instantaneously generate hyper-realistic videos — like a movie trailer of an astronaut traversing a barren desert planet — in response to a text prompt of just a few words, it wasn’t the quality of the footage that caught Hollywood folk off guard as much as the rapid growth of the technology initially thought to be years away from being able to be plugged into the production pipeline.
Questions swirled as studios execs chattered about AI’s place in the entertainment industry: What production processes can it streamline; to what degree can it cut costs; what are the legal and labor guardrails?
Since then, OpenAI has been engaging with studios about Sora, hammering home its applications as it works out kinks with independent filmmakers and undergoes safety testing. Now, the company is pitching Hollywood as it ventures toward widespread adoption of its technology.

Things are definitely coming down to the wire with Matlock’s newest discovery and subsequent conclusion. We’ll get to that in a minute because it’s just too juicy not to go into great detail.
Right now, we have to give it up to Matty and Bitsy’s friend, Cindy Shapiro. Who here thought she was definitely a made-up character? Those Cindy quotes are going to hit differently now.
Usually, Matlock is great at balancing drama against an adequate amount of humor, but those days might be taking a beat. Things are looking heavy for the foreseeable future.
(Michael Yarish/CBS)
That said, it was so good to see Julie Hagerty did not disappoint in the slightest. She was so perfect in this episode that I have to believe she and Kathy Bates are friends in real life with their instant chemistry.

These days, no matter how many Get Outs and Parasites we throw at them, Hollywood is reluctant to make any movie that isn’t part of a franchise. There was a time, however, when the bigwigs could be approached with a sequel idea and say, “Actually, that’s good enough to stand on its own.” They weren’t always right, but at least they could say it.
5 Die Hard
You might know that Die Hard is based on a book, 1979’s Nothing Lasts Forever, but did you know that it’s actually a sequel to 1966’s The Detective? That’s right: Die Hard is technically Die Hard 2. In fact, The Detective had already been adapted in 1968, and the star of that film, Frank Sinatra, had it written into his contract that he must be offered the starring role in any sequels. Supernatural crime thrillers offer a distinctive appeal, seamlessly blending eerie atmospheres and inexplicable phenomena with the tense realities of criminal investigations. A unique amalgamation of genres, the supernatural crime thriller is captivating, elevating some of the best true-crime tales with the introduction or implication of supernatural dealings.
Whether pursued by seasoned detectives or uncovered by ordinary individuals, these investigations often blend clairvoyance and supernatural elements, incorporating trends from some iconic supernatural horror movies, ultimately providing deeper insights into the case and revealing hidden, otherworldly influences behind the crime. In such cases, the reality of the situation goes far beyond initial appearances.
Solace Afonso Poyart, 2015
Solace captures the essence of the supernatural crime thriller genre with Anthony Hopkins leading the intriguing premise. In Solace, Anthony Hopkins is a psychic crime-solver named Dr. John Clancy who assists the FBI in tracking down a serial killer, played by Colin Farrell, who has similar abilities.

Se7en never fails to find itself as one of the greatest thrillers ever made. The David Fincher movie starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman in the lead focuses on two cops trying to stop a serial killer, executing murders across the city according to the Biblical Seven Deadly Sins.
Brad Pitt as David Mills in 1995’s Se7en | New Line Cinema
From the plot to the performances and technical aspects, several aspects helped the film to be critically and commercially successful. However, one of the primary highlights of the film was its ending. Se7en‘s harrowing conclusion is still discussed heavily among pop culture enthusiasts.
Interestingly, Brad Pitt played a vital role in framing Se7en‘s ending. The Fight Club star ensured two non-negotiable conditions in his contract that did not let the makers change the ending midway.
How did Brad Pitt formulate the perfect ending for Se7en?...

There are many classic films with David Fincher’s name on them. From Gone Girl to Fight Club, there is not a movie he has made that managed to escape the hearts of fans. The range he has provided brings about the idea of possible sequels he could look back to at some point in Fincher’s career. In the direction Hollywood has recently been taking, there are more sequels than there are original films.
A still from Se7en | Credit: New Line Cinema
Out of all the films that the director has made, there is one that he would do the worst over if it meant to make a sequel. Some projects are best left as is and he understands that more than anything. One mustn’t milk the cow beyond its capabilities.

Original movies that started out as sequels provide valuable insights into the film industry's decision-making process. Turning a sequel script into a standalone film is based on the director's or studio's vision and the commercial and creative potential of the original premise. While some original movies that were originally sequels have become successful, others have resulted in diluted versions of the director's or scriptwriter's ideas.
Original movies that started out as sequels can give audiences useful insights into how the film industry actually works. After a director or writer has spent some time working on the script for a sequel to one of their movies, they may ultimately decide to turn that script into a standalone film instead. Whether it's the director, screenwriter, or the studio that makes this call, the decision is based on their vision for the original premise - or the new script's commercial and creative potential.

Seven, like so many classic films, isn’t exactly calling out for a sequel… but that’s never stopped a studio from giving it a shot anyway. There are few cinematic masterpieces that have not been followed with rumblings of a potential successor, and while common sense often prevails to leave their reputation untarnished, others are not so lucky. In this regard, Seven is a rather unique example given how it fits both categories. The film does not have a sequel, but the script that was being considered as a follow-up did end up getting produced many years later under the name Solace.

September usually means the beginning of the traditional fall TV season. As such, Hulu’s list of new releases for September 2021 contains some impressive TV swings.
For starters, all of ABC and Fox’s (both now united under the Disney banner alongside Hulu) fall season offerings will be made available to stream on Hulu the next day. More impressively, however, two FX on Hulu originals make their way to the streaming world this month.
The first is the long-awaited adaptation of the classic comic Y: The Last Man. The story of a virus that destroys every mammal with a Y-chromosome (save for one escape artist and his monkey) is set to premiere on September 13. Shortly after that, the B.J. Novak-produced anthology series The Premise arrives on September 16. Even those who are fatigued from timely anthology concepts will want to check this one out.

Exclusive: Josh Close has joined the cast of Andrea Pallaoro’s Monica.
He’ll appear in the dramatic feature alongside previously announced cast members Trace Lysette (Hustlers), Patricia Clarkson (Sharp Objects), Emily Browning (American Gods) and Adriana Barraza (Babel).
Monica follows a woman of the same name (Lysette) who returns home to the Midwest for the first time in 20 years to take care of her dying mother (Clarkson). The film will lead the viewer into Monica’s world and state of mind—the pain and fear, needs and desires of a woman, whose journey ultimately illuminates the human condition.
The feature exploring universal themes of abandonment, aging, rejection, acceptance and forgiveness is the second in a women’s trilogy helmed by Pallaoro. It comes on the heels of the director’s 2017 drama, Hannah, which starred Charlotte Rampling.
Pallaoro penned the script for Monica with his longtime writing partner Orlando Tirado.

The Daniel Craig James Bond movies are rather hit or miss. Two are considered modern-day Bond classics - Casino Royale and Skyfall. The other two - Quantum of Solace and Spectre - were considered huge disappointments following critically acclaimed predecessors. Much of the praise has gone towards the stories, personal character development of Bond, smart introspection towards the Bond series itself, and filmmaking.

With that said, the stories are filled with some questionable plot material. Whether it be a full-on plot hole that doesn't make any sense or a bizarre bit that had viewers raising their eyebrows, these plot points were more than a little confounding.

In the words of “Sweeney Todd” pie baker Mrs. Lovett, “Times is hard.” As everyone adjusts to the new reality of working remotely, comedians and filmmakers who rely on freelance work are being hit hard. Film and TV productions are shutting down faster than we can update our exhaustive running list. Comedians are losing out on precious weekly gigs. Theater practitioners are worried the nonprofit theater world may not bounce back. An already tenuous lifestyle just became a whole lot harder.
And yet, creatives gotta create. Since 2011, Texas-Berlin producer Lotic has been sculpting experimental club music from noise swarms, microscopic samples and mutated bass rumbles, making fans of Björk, Ben Frost and more. 2015’s Ep Heterocetera and short mixtape Agitations created mutating nightmares from, respectively, Penderecki-esque howls of microtonal noise and revving Transformers grind. However, with the release of their first full-length, Lotic opts for a kinder, gentler chaos.

Morgan Freeman's smooth cool, Brad Pitt's bedhead and a serial killer obsessed with the deadly sins. It's Seven, the neo-noir crime thriller from visionary director David Fincher. Here we'll take a look at 10 things you never knew about Seven.
Four Se7en directors.
It's hard to imagine Seven in the hands of anyone but David Fincher, but there were a number of other directors who could have made it. Jeremiah S. Chechik, director of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Benny & Joon, was reportedly once attached. It was also offered to Guillermo del Toro, fresh off of Cronos. "I rightfully said no to Seven, because it was a great script but it was a very cynical view of the world," he said in a 2008 interview. "And I loved it, I wanted to see it, but I'm a romantic, fat bastard at heart and I don't subscribe to that view.

New Line Cinema is staying in business with iconic author Stephen King, after the success of It, the highest-grossing horror movie of all time. The studio is moving forward on an adaptation of Stephen King's The Long Walk, hiring James Vanderbilt to write the screenplay adaptation, although no one has been brought on to direct at this time. Vanderbilt will also produce through his Mythology Entertainment company, alongside partners Bradley Fisher and William Sherak, with Tracey Nyberg serving as an executive producer.
The Long Walk was first published in 1973, with Stephen King writing the book under his pen name RIchard Bachman. The story is set in a future dystopian version of America that is ruled by an authoritarian leader. Every year, the country holds an annual walking contest where 100 teenagers must keep walking under strict rules until only one is left standing, with the winner receiving a sizable prize. The...

The movie isn't going to win any awards or anything, but I liked what I saw in the trailer and I think fans of the classic game might like what they see. It's pretty much the game in big-budget movie form. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm excited to see the movie.
Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered alpha predators. As these newly created monsters tear across North America,...

Since 1986, video gamers have been destroying cities on the screen with Midway's lovable massive monsters known as George, Lizzie, and Ralphie. In New Line Cinema's new movie Rampage, we'll see that world of colossal creatures brought to life on the big screen, and the first trailer for the film promises plenty of large-scale action with Dwayne Johnson on the front lines of the creature-centric carnage.
Directed by Brad Peyton (San Andreas), Rampage is slated for an April 20th, 2018 release from Warner Bros. Check out the new trailer and poster below, and let us know what you think of the video game franchise being adapted for the big screen.

Last week, Rampage started production, with Dwayne Johnson unveiling the first set photo featuring his character David Okoye. As filming continues, the actor showcased another set photo that has his character along with Naomie Harris as they are hauled away in handcuffs by the military. A second image has The Rock delivering a sleeper hold to an unspecified enemy. Here's what the actor had to say in his Instagram statement.
"Friday night. 4am. On set. #Rampage. Been shooting all night and I'm jacked up on caffeine but at least I'm getting in trouble with my partner in crime, the lovely and extremely talented, Naomie Harris. Now if I can just break these military flex cuffs, I can do some real hero shit and look cool in front of my leading lady. And by "look cool" I mean get my ass handed to me by these armed military boys. We're makin'...
