When OpenAI unveiled technology called Sora last year that lets people instantaneously generate hyper-realistic videos — like a movie trailer of an astronaut traversing a barren desert planet — in response to a text prompt of just a few words, it wasn’t the quality of the footage that caught Hollywood folk off guard as much as the rapid growth of the technology initially thought to be years away from being able to be plugged into the production pipeline.

Questions swirled as studios execs chattered about AI’s place in the entertainment industry: What production processes can it streamline; to what degree can it cut costs; what are the legal and labor guardrails?

Since then, OpenAI has been engaging with studios about Sora, hammering home its applications as it works out kinks with independent filmmakers and undergoes safety testing. Now, the company is pitching Hollywood as it ventures toward widespread adoption of its technology.

Things are definitely coming down to the wire with Matlock’s newest discovery and subsequent conclusion. We’ll get to that in a minute because it’s just too juicy not to go into great detail.

Rio De Janeiro — Paris Entretenimento, the production arm of top Brazilian distribution company Paris, will produce two features, “My Life with Shurastey” and “Bahamas Club,” helmed by Afonso Poyart, director of Colin Farrell, Anthony Hopkins starrer “Solace” and just out Brazilian Netflix action thriller “Bionic.”

“My Life with Shurastey”(“Minha vida com Shurastey”) is to be lensed in the U.S. and Argentina in the first semester of 2025, while “Bahamas Club” is scheduled to go into production in Brazil in the second half of 2025. Each pic has a budget about RS25 million ($5 million), Veronica Stumpf, head of Paris Entretenimento, told Variety.

Based on the homonymous travel diary of Jesse Kozechen, “My Life with Shurastey” turns on a young Brazilian who quits his boring job in order to travel the Americas in a Volkswagen Beetle with his dog Shurastey. He first drove to Ushuaia, Argentina, in the Southern tip of South America.

Se7en never fails to find itself as one of the greatest thrillers ever made. The David Fincher movie starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman in the lead focuses on two cops trying to stop a serial killer, executing murders across the city according to the Biblical Seven Deadly Sins.

From the plot to the performances and technical aspects, several aspects helped the film to be critically and commercially successful. However, one of the primary highlights of the film was its ending. Se7en‘s harrowing conclusion is still discussed heavily among pop culture enthusiasts.

Interestingly, Brad Pitt played a vital role in framing Se7en‘s ending. The Fight Club star ensured two non-negotiable conditions in his contract that did not let the makers change the ending midway.

The Ghost Inside have announced their new album, Searching for Solace, along with a Spring 2024 North American tour. The metalcore act has also shared the single “Wash It Away” ahead of the album’s April 19th release date.

The band will kick off its tour with a release-day concert on April 19th in Las Vegas and remain on the road through a May 16th appearance at the Sonic Temple Festival in Columbus, Ohio. Paleface Swiss, Bleed from Within, and Great American Ghost will support the headlining tour dates.

Thomas Augsberger, the producer, international film consultant, former Lionsgate board member and founder of Eden Rock Media, has died. He was 60.

Augsberger died suddenly on Monday, November 27, at his home in the Hollywood Hills, members of his family told The Hollywood Reporter.

The German-born and trained attorney was best known as the longtime consultant and North American representative for Herbert Kloiber‘s German mini-major Tele Muenchen Group (Tmg). After Leonine acquired Tmg in 2019, Augsberger continued to advise the company on film projects and acquisitions.

Over more than two decades, Augsberger acquired hundreds of film and TV projects for the German market from producers, sales agents and studios, making him one of the most important figures on the independent scene. He helped secure prebuys of Marvel’s Iron Man, Summit Entertainment’s Twilight and Lionsgate’s John Wick and Hunger Games franchises, including the recent prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,...

International media consultant and producer Thomas Augsberger died suddenly on Tuesday at his home in the Hollywood Hills, his publicist informed Variety. He was 60.

The German-born and trained attorney was founder of film and television production company and media consulting business Eden Rock Media. Augsberger’s high profile media clients included Germany’s Leonine Studios. Prior to Leonine, Augsberger served for more than two decades as an advisor to the Tele Muenchen Group (Tmg) as their exclusive North American representative in the U.S. During this time he oversaw Tmg investments in the U.S., including a preferred equity investment in Lionsgate Entertainment in 1999 and the acquisition of the Mutual Film Library in 2006.

There are few cinematic masterpieces that have not been followed with rumblings of a potential successor, and while common sense often prevails to leave their reputation untarnished, others are not so lucky. In this regard, Seven is a rather unique example given how it fits both categories. The film does not have a sequel, but the script that was being considered as a follow-up did end up getting produced many years later under the name Solace.

September usually means the beginning of the traditional fall TV season. As such, Hulu’s list of new releases for September 2021 contains some impressive TV swings.

For starters, all of ABC and Fox’s (both now united under the Disney banner alongside Hulu) fall season offerings will be made available to stream on Hulu the next day. More impressively, however, two FX on Hulu originals make their way to the streaming world this month.

The first is the long-awaited adaptation of the classic comic Y: The Last Man. The story of a virus that destroys every mammal with a Y-chromosome (save for one escape artist and his monkey) is set to premiere on September 13. Shortly after that, the B.J. Novak-produced anthology series The Premise arrives on September 16. Even those who are fatigued from timely anthology concepts will want to check this one out.

Exclusive: Josh Close has joined the cast of Andrea Pallaoro’s Monica.

He’ll appear in the dramatic feature alongside previously announced cast members Trace Lysette (Hustlers), Patricia Clarkson (Sharp Objects), Emily Browning (American Gods) and Adriana Barraza (Babel).

Monica follows a woman of the same name (Lysette) who returns home to the Midwest for the first time in 20 years to take care of her dying mother (Clarkson). The film will lead the viewer into Monica’s world and state of mind—the pain and fear, needs and desires of a woman, whose journey ultimately illuminates the human condition.

The feature exploring universal themes of abandonment, aging, rejection, acceptance and forgiveness is the second in a women’s trilogy helmed by Pallaoro. It comes on the heels of the director’s 2017 drama, Hannah, which starred Charlotte Rampling.

Pallaoro penned the script for Monica with his longtime writing partner Orlando Tirado.

The Daniel Craig James Bond movies are rather hit or miss. Two are considered modern-day Bond classics - Casino Royale and Skyfall. The other two - Quantum of Solace and Spectre - were considered huge disappointments following critically acclaimed predecessors. Much of the praise has gone towards the stories, personal character development of Bond, smart introspection towards the Bond series itself, and filmmaking.

With that said, the stories are filled with some questionable plot material. Whether it be a full-on plot hole that doesn't make any sense or a bizarre bit that had viewers raising their eyebrows, these plot points were more than a little confounding.

“Jeepers Creepers: Reborn,” the fourth installment in the long-running horror franchise, has sold worldwide distribution rights to Screen Media.

The studio plans to release the film in North America in the fall of 2021. Screen Media previously released “Jeepers Creepers 3.”

The latest installment in the series is from director Timo Vuorensola, who previously oversaw the “Iron Sky” films. It is part of planned new trilogy. The film is written by Sean Michael Argo (“Iconoclast”), and produced by Jake Seal (“Quantum of Solace”) of Orwo Studios & Black Hangar Studios and Michael Ohoven (“The Devil’s Rejects”) of Infinity Films.

Former Northern Exposure star Janine Turner has been cast opposite Megan Hilty in Lifetime’s upcoming Patsy and Loretta, Forever, an original movie about the friendship between country music stars Patsy Cline (Hilty) and Loretta Lynn (Jessie Mueller). Turner will play Hilda Hensley, Patsy’s mother, and also her seamstress/costume designer and confidante. Patsy & Loretta will be executive produced by Neil Meron, in his first solo project since the death of longtime producing partner Craig Zadan. Oscar-winning Thelma & Louise writer Callie Khouri is directing, and Mark Nicholson is co-ep. Known for her Emmy-nominated work in Northern Exposure, Turnerr also heavily recurred in Friday Night Lights. On the film side, Turner can be seen in Solace opposite Anthony Hopkins. Turner is repped by Link Entertainment and Linda McCalister.

Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar will return for its fourth season on Own Wednesday, June 12 with Erica Tazel and Kendall Clark joining as recurring guest stars and Walter Perez upped to series regular.

The new season also continues the series’ use of an all-female directing team, a “creative initiative” established in the show’s first season by creator/exec producer DuVernay. Season 4 directors will include Cheryl Dunye, who will also serve as producing director, Carmen Marrón, Numa Perrier, Heidi Saman, Bola Ogun and Tchaiko Omawale.

The series is exec produced by Oprah Winfrey and Warner Horizon Scripted Television. Season 3 is available on Hulu.

The studio is moving forward on an adaptation of Stephen King's The Long Walk, hiring James Vanderbilt to write the screenplay adaptation, although no one has been brought on to direct at this time. Vanderbilt will also produce through his Mythology Entertainment company, alongside partners Bradley Fisher and William Sherak, with Tracey Nyberg serving as an executive producer.

The massive monsters from Midway's video game franchise will be stomping into theaters one week early in the Us.

Directed by Brad Peyton (San Andreas) and starring Dwayne Johnson, Rampage is now slated for an April 13th release from Warner Bros., bumping it up from its April 20th release, likely to give it more time in theaters before Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War comes into theaters a week earlier than expected on April 27th. The movie isn't going to win any awards or anything, but I liked what I saw in the trailer and I think fans of the classic game might like what they see. Last week, Rampage started production, with Dwayne Johnson unveiling the first set photo featuring his character David Okoye. As filming continues, the actor showcased another set photo that has his character along with Naomie Harris as they are hauled away in handcuffs by the military. A second image has The Rock delivering a sleeper hold to an unspecified enemy. Here's what the actor had to say in his Instagram statement.
