Following the success of Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, Eiza González helms the all-new sci-fi film Ash, alongside Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul. The space horror-thriller comes from Flying Lotus, a record producer, rapper, DJ, and filmmaker known for previously directing a segment in V/H/S//99, who also composed the original score for the upcoming film. District 9 and Gran Turismo director Neill Blomkamp serves as the executive producer.

That's the premise of the aptly titled Ash, a new sci-fi horror movie directed and composed by Flying Lotus. The movie debuted to glowing reviews - 86% on Rotten Tomatoes - after premiering at SXSW last week and is perhaps best described as part-Alien, part-The Thing.

Flying Lotus' new film Ash recently debuted at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival, and it turned out to be a hit with the critics. With its early reviews, the film has garnered one of the highest Rotten Tomatoes scores of Aaron Paul's career.

Currently,Ash has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 91%, comparable to Paul's revered films Eye in the Sky (95%), El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (92%), and American Woman (89%). The movie, which also stars Eiza Gonzalez, is part science fiction and part psychological thriller. The result is an entertaining watch for most critics, with Ash praised for its acting, storytelling, and visuals.

"Ash feels outside of time," says Sharai Bohannon of Horror Press. "It’s somehow futuristic but also heavily influenced by the sci-fi horror that came before it. So, nods to John Carpenter’s The Thing and Ridley Scott’s Alien feel at home in this film.

The quest to adapt the novel 3 Body Problem has been especially arduous, with its own ever-growing body count. A classic in China, the Liu Cixin 2008 book series Remembrance of Earth's Past hit the big time on the world stage thanks to a well-received adaptation. The timing was bittersweet. Approximately the same time that the first book in the series, 3 Body Problem, saw its world debut in 2024 on Netflix, we also learned the fate of the man who killed the project's mastermind, gone before he could savor his labor of love.

Call me Will Downing the way I'm drifting around in space, dying to be reunited with the world and characters of 3 Body Problem. Unfortunately, a bit like Will's collision course, ours seems to have taken a bit of a setback too.

3 Body Problem was renewed for two more seasons back in 2024. Fans were delighted for the opportunity to get to see the next two Cixin Liu's books adapted onscreen, after a particularly wild cliffhanger was left dangling over our heads at the end of season 1: the alien race of the San Ti are on their way to Earth, and they're not exactly friendly, sending a message to humanity: "You are bugs."

Unfortunately for the audience, it seems their arrival on Earth might take some time. Despite a prompt renewal announcement Netflix did not include the show on its list of 2025 releases, leading to rumors of a 2026 release.

FX's Shōgun, adapted from the novel by James Clavell, was an absolute triumph. Released in 2024, the series was a critical hit, dominating the streaming charts and taking home a record-breaking 18 Primetime Emmys last year. While audiences and critics may have loved the hit samurai drama, one person who couldn't get on board with the modern adaptation is Jerry London, who directed the beloved 1980 Shōgun miniseries.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jerry London aired his grievances about the latest adaptation, namely that a series set in Japan and featuring Japanese characters played by Japanese actors had the gall to mostly be in Japanese. "It’s completely different from the one I did," London said. The 1980 miniseries was a far looser adaptation of Clavell's giant novel, and homed in on the romance between John Blackthorne and Mariko, often at the expense of its Japanese cast. Netflix debuted its first look Friday for “Death by Lightning,” a new drama about the true story of the 20th president of the United States, James Garfield, and his greatest admirer Charles Guiteau — the man who would come to kill him.

The limited series, which is based on the Candice Millard novel “Destiny of the Republic,” will premiere on the streamer later this year and stars Matthew Macfadyen and Michael Shannon.

Other cast members include Betty Gilpin, Nick Offerman, , Laura Marcus, Bradley Whitford, Shea Whigham, Paula Malcomson, Tuppence Middleton, Archie Fisher, Barry Shabaka Henley, Željko Ivanek, Kyle Soller, Ben Miles, Vondie Curtis Hall, Shaun Parkes and Alistair Petrie.

James Gunn and Peter Safran have decided to restart the DC Universe once they were named co-CEOs of DC Studios. The decision includes rebooting several stories already told but also focusing on some comic book characters that didn't get the same exposure.

Although The CW treated Supergirl with her own standalone TV series in the Arrowverse, The character was created in 1959, and, since then, she appeared in several live-action projects, including 1984's Supergirl, and the shows Smallville and The Flash. The character will have a standalone film in the Dcu, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which has just received the first look at the project on Instagram, which is currently filming.

The DC Universe has officially welcomed the last daughter of Krypton.

To commemorate the start of production on “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” star Milly Alcock and DC Studios co-chief James Gunn have shared the first image from the set of the film.

DC Studios co-head James Gunn is celebrating the beginning of filming of Supergirl, which stars Milly Alcock in the title role.

The filmmaker took to social media to share a teaser photo of Alcock as Kara Zor-El as filming starts on the superhero movie.

“Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El,” Gunn shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Craig brings an incredible sensibility to this story, and Milly is every inch the unique #Supergirl envisioned by Tom King, Bilquis Evely & Ana Nogueira.”

The DC Studios movie is based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which Bilquis Evely illustrated. Ana Nogueira adapted the comic book for the big screen. In that comic, the bad guy is Krem of the Yellow Hill, who kills a young alien girl’s father.

David Krumholtz has finally joined a comic book movie. The actor, who is set to play Supergirl's father in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, recently shared how much it means to him to join James Gunn's DC Universe.

Following his casting, Krumholtz released a statement on Instagram expressing "gratitude" for being able to live out a childhood dream. "I was that kid. Overflowing drawers full of comics… escaping into worlds unknown… imagining myself having powers that would benefit the greater good," the actor wrote. "Joining the DC Universe is a mindblowing privilege. Representing the symbol of hope in Supergirl as Zor-El is a personal triumph. My gratitude overflowing now, like those drawers did…."

3 Body Problem was one of Netflix's major new shows in 2024, and production of the next season finally seems to be moving ahead.

The sci-fi series is an American adaptation of Cixin Liu's popular novel trilogy Remembrance of Earth's Past. The series comes from Game of Thrones producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with Alexander Woo (True Blood).

After most of the first novel was adapted in Season 1 of 3 Body Problem, the series still has two more of Liu's books to cover.

Yesterday evening, a rumour hit social media claiming that Marvel Studios is making moves to recast Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa. The news has received a mixed response, though many fans are eager to see the character back on screen.

The production team behind Netflix’s Black Mirror has a new series, Toxic Town, set to arrive on the streaming platform sometime this year. Netflix has released the first image (above) for the four-part limited series starring Jodie Whittaker and Robert Carlyle, which traces the true story of the Corby toxic waste case from the UK.

A town in Northamptonshire, Corby was once home to steel works which were shuttered in 1981. However, the toxic waste left behind contaminated the area, leading to health issues for those who lived there. An investigation and subsequent case found that the Corby Borough Council’s actions in moving the waste led to birth defects, namely, an above-average number of Corby residents born with upper-limb defects. Earlier today, one of the worst-kept casting secrets in Hollywood was finally confirmed: Jason Momoa will suit-up as Lobo in the Dcu after previously playing Aquaman in Warner Bros.' now defunct "Dceu."

The Game of Thrones alum hinted at the announcement on social media, which was quickly followed by the trades confirming the news. As expected, Momoa will make his debut as the Main Man in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Again, this news probably won't come as a major surprise, since Momoa has expressed his desire to play the character on a number of occasions, and several reliable (or at least semi-reliable) scoopers have claimed that he had entered talks for the role.
