Flying Lotus' new film Ash recently debuted at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival, and it turned out to be a hit with the critics. With its early reviews, the film has garnered one of the highest Rotten Tomatoes scores of Aaron Paul's career.
Currently,Ash has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 91%, comparable to Paul's revered films Eye in the Sky (95%), El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (92%), and American Woman (89%). The movie, which also stars Eiza Gonzalez, is part science fiction and part psychological thriller. The result is an entertaining watch for most critics, with Ash praised for its acting, storytelling, and visuals.
"Ash feels outside of time," says Sharai Bohannon of Horror Press. "It’s somehow futuristic but also heavily influenced by the sci-fi horror that came before it. So, nods to John Carpenter’s The Thing and Ridley Scott’s Alien feel at home in this film.

Eiza González recalls getting fired from Sesame Street when she was just a kid. While González was famous in Mexican TV and film for a while, her breakout role in Hollywood was in Baby Driver in 2017, where she played the supporting role of Darling. In the eight years since then, the actor has become a part of major movies, including the Fast and Furious franchise, when she was in Hobbs & Shaw. Last year, she starred in Netflix's 3 Body Problem, a sci-fi series that has already been renewed for season 2.
Speaking on The Kelly Clarkson Show, González speaks about her short-lived experience working on Sesame Street. The actor described her five-year-old self as "a menace" and "a hyperactive child." This led to destructive behavior on the set of Sesame Street, which eventually led to her being fired. She joked that "Big Bird fired me" but noted that she...

The quest to adapt the novel 3 Body Problem has been especially arduous, with its own ever-growing body count. A classic in China, the Liu Cixin 2008 book series Remembrance of Earth's Past hit the big time on the world stage thanks to a well-received adaptation. The timing was bittersweet. Approximately the same time that the first book in the series, 3 Body Problem, saw its world debut in 2024 on Netflix, we also learned the fate of the man who killed the project's mastermind, gone before he could savor his labor of love.

Call me Will Downing the way I'm drifting around in space, dying to be reunited with the world and characters of 3 Body Problem. Unfortunately, a bit like Will's collision course, ours seems to have taken a bit of a setback too.
3 Body Problem was renewed for two more seasons back in 2024. Fans were delighted for the opportunity to get to see the next two Cixin Liu's books adapted onscreen, after a particularly wild cliffhanger was left dangling over our heads at the end of season 1: the alien race of the San Ti are on their way to Earth, and they're not exactly friendly, sending a message to humanity: "You are bugs."
Unfortunately for the audience, it seems their arrival on Earth might take some time. Despite a prompt renewal announcement Netflix did not include the show on its list of 2025 releases, leading to rumors of a 2026 release.

FX's Shōgun, adapted from the novel by James Clavell, was an absolute triumph. Released in 2024, the series was a critical hit, dominating the streaming charts and taking home a record-breaking 18 Primetime Emmys last year. While audiences and critics may have loved the hit samurai drama, one person who couldn't get on board with the modern adaptation is Jerry London, who directed the beloved 1980 Shōgun miniseries.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jerry London aired his grievances about the latest adaptation, namely that a series set in Japan and featuring Japanese characters played by Japanese actors had the gall to mostly be in Japanese. "It’s completely different from the one I did," London said. The 1980 miniseries was a far looser adaptation of Clavell's giant novel, and homed in on the romance between John Blackthorne and Mariko, often at the expense of its Japanese cast. London explained:

Have you ever seen such a stressful moment at a major sporting event? We're not talking about Super Bowl Lix here, although I'm sure that's exciting, too. Instead, though, the movie junkies at /Film are focused firmly on the commercials today, including the new Super Bowl spot for "F1," Joseph Kosinski's stylish and adrenaline-fueled new movie about the deadly, high-speed lives of Formula One drivers.
The new movie stars Brad Pitt, who hasn't been on screen so much lately in the wake of his protracted legal battle against ex-wife Angelina Jolie. Per Vulture, Jolie alleges Pitt was abusive, but despite an FBI investigation, no charges were ever filed. Though the actor's production company, Plan B Entertainment, has continued to fund great projects in recent years -- including the trippy Netflix sci-fi series "3 Body Problem" and one of the best movies of 2024, "Nickel Boys" -- Pitt's only 2024 role was opposite George Clooney in "Wolfs,...

There are a bunch of big new series coming out of the United Kingdom throughout 2025, but one of our most anticipated is Toxic Town, which comes from the same production team behind Black Mirror. Since the end of Game of Thrones, creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss have focused much of their energy on 3 Body Problem, an ambitious, challenging sci-fi series on Netflix. But while we wait for the second season of that show, they're serving as executive producers on a couple others. That includes Death By Lightning, based on the 2011 novel Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President by Candice Miller.
Death by Lightning (a much shorter but still punchy title) is about the 20th president of the United States, James Garfield. He was inaugurated as president in 1881, a time when the country was still healing from the wounds of the Civil War. He was considered effective, but was assassinated just nine months into his term.

The other night, Joel McHale hosted the 52nd Saturn Awards, which are dedicated to honoring the best in sci-fi, fantasy and horror on the screen, big or small. The big winner of the night was Dune: Part Two, which won five awards, including Best Science Fiction Film, where it beat out the likes of Furiosa: A Mad Max Story and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. And while Dune director Denis Villeneuve may have once again been snubbed at the Oscars, he was rightly lauded at the Saturn Awards.

Netflix just released a sizzle reel spotlighting some of the big shows it will be airing this year. And there are some whoppers, especially if you're into the sci-fi/fantasy/genre side of things. The third and final season of Squid Game is coming in June, and the fifth and final season of Stranger Things is coming along sometime after that. The second season of the megahit series Wednesday will turn up this year, as will the fourth season of The Witcher, with Liam Hemsworth replacing Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Netflix has a full year ahead of them.
In addition to videos like this one, Netflix gave members of the press a big list of everything that's coming this year, and there were a few notable absences. Probably the biggest is that the second season of One Piece was nowhere to be found on Netflix's schedule. The first...

James Gunn and Peter Safran have decided to restart the DC Universe once they were named co-CEOs of DC Studios. The decision includes rebooting several stories already told but also focusing on some comic book characters that didn't get the same exposure.
Although The CW treated Supergirl with her own standalone TV series in the Arrowverse, The character was created in 1959, and, since then, she appeared in several live-action projects, including 1984's Supergirl, and the shows Smallville and The Flash. The character will have a standalone film in the Dcu, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which has just received the first look at the project on Instagram, which is currently filming.

“Kneecap” — the Irish-language music biopic that became one of the buzziest indie films of 2024 and is now tipped for both Oscar and BAFTA recognition — has, perhaps unsurprisingly, emerged far ahead of the pack of nominees for the 2025 Irish Film & TV Academy (IFTA) awards.
Rich Peppiatt’s raucous comedy, about (and starring) the Belfast rap trio of the same name, has landed an astonishing 17 nominations for the awards, including best film, director, three of the six slots for lead actor, three of the six for supporting actress and one for Michael Fassbender in the supporting actor category.
“Small Things Like These,” the considerably quieter Irish drama fronted (and produced) by Cillian Murphy has nine nominations, including lead actor for Murphy, who won the award last year for “Oppenheimer.”
Having been co-produced by Irish company Tailored Films, Ali Abbasi’s Donald Trump biopic “The Apprentice” is also in the mix, with four nominations.

So, let’s check out the best new and returning sci-fi fantasy shows that came out last year.

3 Body Problem was one of Netflix's major new shows in 2024, and production of the next season finally seems to be moving ahead.
The sci-fi series is an American adaptation of Cixin Liu's popular novel trilogy Remembrance of Earth's Past. The series comes from Game of Thrones producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with Alexander Woo (True Blood).
After most of the first novel was adapted in Season 1 of 3 Body Problem, the series still has two more of Liu's books to cover.

Yesterday evening, a rumour hit social media claiming that Marvel Studios is making moves to recast Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa. The news has received a mixed response, though many fans are eager to see the character back on screen.
After Boseman passed away, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever confirmed that T'Challa had also died. Shuri inherited the mantle and the sequel ended by revealing the hero secretly had a son with Nakia, a young boy also named T'Challa.
While Avengers: Secret Wars' Black Panther may be a Variant, we think Toussaint is going to be aged up before picking up where his father left off in the Mutant Saga. With all that in mind, we're now taking a look at the actors who could take over this role in the MCU.

The production team behind Netflix’s Black Mirror has a new series, Toxic Town, set to arrive on the streaming platform sometime this year. Netflix has released the first image (above) for the four-part limited series starring Jodie Whittaker and Robert Carlyle, which traces the true story of the Corby toxic waste case from the UK.
A town in Northamptonshire, Corby was once home to steel works which were shuttered in 1981. However, the toxic waste left behind contaminated the area, leading to health issues for those who lived there. An investigation and subsequent case found that the Corby Borough Council’s actions in moving the waste led to birth defects, namely, an above-average number of Corby residents born with upper-limb defects. Netflix's series will center primarily on the mothers whose children were affected. Per the official synopsis for Toxic Town:
Based on one of the UK’s biggest environmental scandals,...

New Amsterdam alum Jocko Sims is back at NBC with a recurring role on the upcoming drama series Grosse Pointe Garden Society. Also recurring on the twisty, soapy mystery series from Good Girls‘ Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs are Saamer Usmani (Three Body Problem), Josh Ventura (Till) and Nora Zehetner (Grey’s Anatomy).
Grosse Pointe Garden Society, which earlier today released a first trailer, follows four members of a suburban garden club — Birdie (Melissa Fumero), Catherine (Aja Naomi King), Brett (Ben Rappaport) and Alice (AnnaSophia Robb) — who find their lives intertwined by scandal, mischief and a shared secret – a murder no one wants to talk about. As dark truths begin to rot their lives under the surface, they struggle to remain as perfect as the flowers blooming in their garden above.
Sims plays Catherine’s (King) husband Tucker. He’s entitled, self-serving, dismissive and prioritizes everything above his wife. Usmani plays Gary,...

2024 is over, and while it was a wasteland at the box office last year for television fans, it was one of the better years as we got many brilliant shows on the big and small scale. With incredible series like Masters of the Air starting the year, there was no way that the rest of the year could go bad, and that’s what happened because we got powerful and thrilling shows like Shōgun, Fallout, and 3 Body Problem. So, we compiled the list of the best returning and new shows on streaming, Cabel, and networks.

After an impressive 2024, Netflix plans to cultivate even more success in 2025 with the return of some of its most popular shows, starting in January. In a world where streaming has become the supreme way to consume media, Netflix remains on top. The platform laid the groundwork for streaming dominance, with many others following in its footsteps in the past decade or so. Streaming has just continued to grow and succeed, which won't stop anytime soon based on Netflix's 2025 lineup of TV shows alone.
Some of Netflix's biggest shows in 2024 were Bridgerton, Outer Banks, 3 Body Problem, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Heartstopper, Baby Reindeer, and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story (per Netflix by Tudum).
Netflix is the biggest streaming service in the world, and that is unlikely to change anytime in the near future. While Netflix has been criticized for prematurely canceling original shows, the company still produces some...

2024 is basically over at this point, so we've already started looking to 2025. It's going to be a big year for Netflix with so many highly anticipated releases, such as Stranger Things season 5, Wednesday season 2, The Night Agent season 2, Cobra Kai season 6 part 3, You season 5 and much more.
However, some beloved Netflix shows won't be returning in the new year for various reasons. We're talking about shows like Bridgerton, Outer Banks, 3 Body Problem etc. Then, there are some Netflix series that could come back with new seasons in 2025, but we're not totally sure. Obviously, we would want to see these shows as soon as possible, but it all depends on how long the filmmaking process takes and Netflix.
If the cast and crew can't finish the filmmaking process in time for a show to make a 2025 release, then we won't see it until the next year or possibly even later,...

Earlier today, one of the worst-kept casting secrets in Hollywood was finally confirmed: Jason Momoa will suit-up as Lobo in the Dcu after previously playing Aquaman in Warner Bros.' now defunct "Dceu."
The Game of Thrones alum hinted at the announcement on social media, which was quickly followed by the trades confirming the news. As expected, Momoa will make his debut as the Main Man in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Again, this news probably won't come as a major surprise, since Momoa has expressed his desire to play the character on a number of occasions, and several reliable (or at least semi-reliable) scoopers have claimed that he had entered talks for the role.
Just in case there was any doubt, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has now welcomed Momoa to the Dcu with some new Lobo artwork.

While there are plenty of famous actors with new movies coming out in 2025, the most exciting films to watch will be the ones featuring upcoming actors who are making their mark in film and television. Though few of these performers are new to the industry, in the past few years, they've been highlighted for their work in unique projects that have catapulted them into greater fame and demand. Touching upon every genre and niche of filmmaking, these actors have demonstrated their flexibility and interests in working across different fields and will be seen in innovative new works.
There are many exciting movies being released and upcoming TV shows returning in 2025 that will showcase the skills of new talent instead of retreading the abilities of actors who have been seen many times before. Though casting a well-known actor is a great way to draw audience members in, viewers are also interested...
