Chloë Grace Moretz in Mother/Android (2021)

Mother/Android

Pointless

Humans play God and make androids. The androids turn on humans and try to destroy them. What began as Frankenstein is in this film a feminist fable about a pregnant mother determined to save her baby and her man from the android apocalypse.

Although the movie has some anxiety provoking moments, it doesn't sustain the tension in the way a good horror or science fiction movie needs. The pace of the first three quarters of the film devolves into a romantic soap opera at the end of the film.

Hint: Buffy has a similar plot where she fights against android/monster Adam during a season of the series. She vanquishes Adam at the end of the season with the help of her friends. The point of the season is that human connections sustain us, even when we fight monsters.

The point of this movie seems to be that human connections make us weaker and miserable, but we fight with them because we can't escape the monster.

What's the difference? Good writing. Buffy has a character arc. No one in this movie does. Even selfless acts are punished by more pain. Who wants to see that plot?

Chloe needs a new agent so that she doesn't have to make craptastic movies like this one. She is better than this.

Great acting from Chloe delivered through decent dramatic scenes, all but buried beneath the nonsensical premise

Agree with other reviews-Chloe Moritz deserves better roles

I have to agree with the other reviews, Chloe Grace Moritz is an amazing actress but she keeps getting parts in similar type movies and it's holding her back. If her agent is listening...she deserves better roles.

Who's booking Chloe's Gigs for her?

She's a fantastic actress yet it's bomb after bomb after bomb for her and she's the only good thing in them.

Chloe, please fire your agent and come back to us with some quality films, we know you're a talented actress and we all love to watch you do your work, but this is straining it for us.

Lacks tension and suspense

"Mother/Android" is a post apocalyptic science fiction film, but it manages to be quite slow and uneventful. It lacks tension and suspense. I was rather bored by it.

I truly don't understand the negative reviews.

Okay yes, this is a story setting that has been used time and time again. We've seen the apocalypse/survival thing in so many movies and tv shows over the years. BUT, that being said, I thought this was a pretty good movie. Was it a 10/10? No, I wouldn't say that. It wasn't even close to being on the same level of say, A Quiet Place. But I thought it was good. I would describe it as like, A Quiet Place's cousin that lives out of state or something. I thought everyone's acting was solid, the storyline had some loopholes but nothing that made me want to completely stop watching. I enjoyed it! Watch for yourself and give it a chance, you might be pleasantly surprised!

excruciatingly slow drama

Terrible movie, terrible screenplay excruciatingly slow and a movie with no point. Come on! Chloe, You're way better than this! You have too much talent for this kind of garbage. You really should be making much higher quality, higher caliber films. Please find someone to steer you in the right direction towards legitimate good screenplays.

Them doggone kids

They should find a way to market this kind of scifi because it seems the title attracts the wrong audience, and the wrong audience gives it low scores. You tell people that this movie is by the guy who made an action packed superhero movie, so kids watch it expecting more of the same.

The movie had great atmosphere, good acting, and a good story. If you think all scifi should be like a marvel movie, keep away from this. There's nothing wrong with marvel movies, and there's nothing wrong with this.

Glad I watched till the end.

Yes, this was a slow movie and I watched it in two sessions. Still, the last half hour was thrilling and had an unexpected turn. It stuck with me after it ended and that's a good thing to me.

6.5/10 not an exceptional story but you want to keep watching

The acting is on point, Chloë Grace Moretz is such a great actress. There is also action in it this makes it a little bit more exciting to watch further even though at times the movie is slow. There is a clear beginning end goal, so that is why you want to see this movie until the end. Overall score 6.5/10. Hoping for a sequel.

It felt like a poor man's clone of Shadow in the Cloud

So Chloe did this film called Shadow in the Cloud a year before this one. It features a woman with a small baby, trying to survive things that are trying to kill her in a misogynistic world while ineffectually protected by a weak man. In the end she rises to the occasion, saving her child. This film is basically the same, only seemingly on a much smaller budget and really falling flat. Instead of gremlins in a plane it's androids in a forest. Instead of manly but stupid flyboys she gets manly but stupid army guys. Similarities aside, I liked Shadow in the Cloud, yet I was completely unimpressed and bored with this film. And what the hell is that title? Couldn't they think of something better?

Bottom line: the movie feels amateurish and under budget, like a student film. The effects are few and far between, while the story is full of holes and completely uninspiring.

Dull movie...really dull. Zzzzzzz

I really like a good android versus humans story. This is not one of them. The beginning is dull, the middle is dull, the ending is almost laughably silly. Yes, go watch The Terminator again. I am going to do just that. I won't be back.

A Very Good Intelligent Movie

Whats with all the negative reviews ? I thought this movie was very good .It was intelligent and Chloe Grace Moretz is such a good actress with a very strong body of work behind her . This is not a bubble gum movie with alot of shotem ups that only appeals to the subpar IQ types. I very much liked this movie. Chloe Grace Moretz definetly displays her acting chops in this.

I Loved It

This movie is a perfect example of why I don't trust general reviews. It, certainly, deserves a higher score than a 4.9, out of 10.

"Mother/Android" has so many things going for it. The concept is decent, the script is well-written, the characters are well-acted, and the overall pace is spot-on. From beginning to end, I was sucked into the story -- wondering what was going to happen next. The filmmakers do an excellent job making these characters feel real; which is key to any good story.

Chloe Grace Moretz is, quickly, becoming one of my favorite actresses. If a production sucks, it won't be because of her. As usual, she delivers a great performance.

The fact that this movie is sci-fi, and stars Moretz, is the sole reason that I chose to give it a shot. It could have been good, or it could have been crap. It's, definitely, not crap.

I won't spoil anything, since, not knowing a thing about it, gave this movie an excellent advantage to be great. I chose to watch it, early in the morning, with a nice, quiet environment; which always helps.

All I can say is, if you're a fan of sci-fi, you should give it a shot. I signed up for Hulu, just to watch this movie, and I wasn't disappointed.

Don't trust the bad reviews. I was torn between giving it an 8 or a 9. I give it a 9 because It's way better than a 4.9 average.

Good enough movie.

And once again, I wonder what all the negative reviews are all about.

I can go along with some of them, but overall I watched a good enough movie.

The acting is good, the storyline is fine, some exciting scenes here and there, some drama.

It just has it all, and just enough for a movie like this, nothing wrong with that.

If it's on Netflix, see it, you won't be bored.

Uninteresting old story

I don't think this movie was as bad as other reviewers said, but definitely nothing new and clearly there was a lack of thought about some things that could have been much better. I think it was saved by chloe's acting but the basic idea of human-like robots that turn against their masters and murder is unsophisticated in itself, and doesn't work as a story the way it did in the 50s- before there had been time for anyone to think it through. Reminds me of an Orson Welles movie... innovative at the time but silly today.
