Sf Studios is joining forces with prolific Norwegian filmmaker Henrik M. Dahlsbakken and the banner FilmBros on “Possession,” a horror film set during the Spanish flu in 1918.
The film, which portrays the terrifying events following a pastor’s actions in a small Sami village, is being handled by REinvent International Sales and will be distributed in the Nordics by Sf Studios.
Exploring themes of faith and doubt amid a pandemic, “Possession” opens in 1918, as World War I is coming to an end and the Spanish flu is ravaging populations. A pastor returns home to his family in Norway to start a congregation, after several years as a missionary in Madagascar. With the help of a local mining company, he starts the work of building a church, but the place turns out to be an old South Sami burial ground. When it is decided that the remains should be removed, an...

Another day, another disaster movie though this time, don't expect The Rock to be showing up to save the day.
John Andreas Andersen's latest is The Quake, a disaster movie which imagines the destruction of Oslo if a big enough earthquake were to strike.
The movie co-stars Kristoffer Joner who also starred in another disaster movie from Norway, the disappointing The Wave which suggested destruction to come but didn't deliver until the very end. At least in the case of The Quake, it looks like the destruction will come early and there will be much of it.
Andersen has a background as a cinematographer, including Headhunters, Babycall and King of Devil's Island, which certainly bodes well for his latest which looks impressive.

Last night I had a lovely Scandinavian dinner with friends as we discussed our book club title "The Ice Princess" the latest best seller capitalizing on the super hot Scandinavian crime genre (oh what The Girl With/Who... has wrought!). I didn't like the book at all and the translation seemed clunky (or maybe that was the fault of the original prose?) but I find the whole trend vaguely hilarious since Scandinavian countries, to their vast collective credit, are not exactly known as hotbeds of crime! Returning home, what do I have in my inbox?, but the nominations for Norway's annual "Amanda" Awards. Don't you love unexpected theme days?
