EUFF Review: Me And Kaminski (7 Stars)

If you like art criticism and if you like dark humor, Me and Kaminski will be a delightful experience for you. The harried attempts by a comically unscrupulous journalist (Daniel Brühl) to write an exclusive biography of a renowned painter (Jesper Christensen) who is known to be blind goes awry when the former decides to kidnap him and hopes that he will pass away soon so that he can enrich his work that is still in progress. It's startkly funny especially in scenes where you are least expecting it, and its fast-paced screenplay that also involves a mad road trip makes it a much more lively experience. There's many things to take away from Me and Kaminski and the fun poked at the ambiguity of modern art is what stands out best. Bruhl's delivery is magnetic while Christensen seems like he is living the character. TN.

(Watched and reviewed at the 24th European Union Film Festival (EUFF India) at Mumbai.)

Nicely done for viewers with an artistic flair

So I cannot say this movie is for everyone. Watched it in a room filled with people and opinions were differing, to put it mildly. I, however, count myself to those rather impressed. Artistic is the stamp I'd put on it. That is not to say that you need to be deep to get it. You don't. But you might have to take a bleak view of the bourgeoisie to fully enjoy it. If you embrace art and cynicism it is very entertaining. Good work by Brühl and Christensen.

An amusing art historical comedy

I thoroughly enjoyed this film that I viewed in the original German/French soundtrack. I found it visually spectacular. There was so much attention paid to detail in the sets. From an art history point of you one was transported through time with the changing styles of art. The actors were convincing and very amusing. I'd watch it again!

Interesting, that black, disproportionate and unhappy humor that, highly esteemed and fun, I love...

Interesting, that black, disproportionate and unhappy humor that, highly esteemed and fun, I love, the protagonist is so literal, self-sufficient, sincere and clueless, a bigger brand crook, or just opportunistic, but all comic situations and with doses exaggeration extras enchant and cheer... It reaches a small dramatic degree in Mr. Kaminski's escape, and the old people always stealing the show with their dementia, which are only comic in the poetry of the arts...
