It’s time for the return of NCIS: Origins.
The new show has been on an extended hiatus since early February, but the break is ending.
NCIS: Origins is a prequel show for the NCIS Universe that tells stories about a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs and his former co-workers.
CBS has aired 13 episodes of the new drama (so far), with more to come this spring.
The bad news is that there are only 18 first-season episodes. Its first season finale hits in late April. That could sneak up on fans who missed the show during its hiatus.
The good news is that CBS ordered a second season that will arrive next year. It gives fans something to look forward to during the long summer hiatus.

The NCIS cast has added LL Cool J for later this season.
As previously reported by Monsters and Critics, a big star was slated to return to the NCIS Universe. Now we know their name.
This is what actor Brian Dietzen (he plays Dr. Jimmy Palmer) was teasing on social media.
LL Cool J is back to play Sam Hanna again. This continues his run on the various NCIS shows.
We first met Hanna in a backdoor pilot for NCIS: Los Angeles during NCIS Season 6.
LL Cool J starred in 323 episodes of NCIS: Los Angeles before jumping to another NCIS spin-off when his show ended.
He was featured on NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3, where the character popped up to help that team.
We also saw LL Cool J featured in the 2023 three-show crossover. That night he was on NCIS and its spin-offs, NCIS: LA, and NCIS: Hawai’i.

The NCIS franchise is expanding exponentially.
You’d think it would run out of stories after over 20 years on the air.
But despite NCIS: Hawai’i, NCIS: Los Angeles, and NCIS: New Orleans ending their runs, we have the mothership, NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Sydney, and the upcoming NCIS: Tony & Ziva.
(CBS/Screenshot)
Simply put, it’s more alive now than it was a few years ago, which I never envisioned, given the recent hurdles the entertainment industry has faced.
Now, with the news of LL Cool J reprising the role of Special Agent Sam Hanna, it’s hard to be too excited, given that the character has had countless appearances in the broader franchise.

NCIS may be one of the longest-running TV dramas, but it seems the franchise still has some surprises in store. A recent announcement about the series' ongoing 22nd season reveals a fan-favorite character will be returning.
CBS has confirmed the reprisal of LL Cool J's Sam Hanna in the April 21 episode of NCIS. In an NCISverse Instagram post, LL Cool J announced, "Back on set, baby! NCIS. Let’s get it." NCIS actor Brian Dietzen reportedly teased this appearance to TV Insider when asked if there would be any returning characters in Season 22, saying, "There are. After being on air for over two decades, NCIS is still going strong, despite the change of the mantle of the lead cast. Original members like Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly are no longer a part of the parent show, while the latter is set to receive his own spin-off alongside Cote de Pablo's Ziva. However, during the latest season of NCIS, longtime fans of the franchise will be treated to another familiar face from a beloved spin-off series that was canceled a few years back.

It’s mixed feelings galore for fans of the 9-1-1 franchise.
There’s so much happening right now that our collective heads are spinning. For some asinine reason, Athena is moonlighting on Doctor Odyssey, 9-1-1: Lone Star literally went down in flames (and radiation), and we discovered that instead of wowing us with something new, the latest spinoff will take place in Nashville.
Yee-haw, hee-haw, and all that fun stuff, but while the mother series appears to be doing well enough and even thriving to the point of needing to lend a hand to that sinking ship that is Doctor Odyssey, the latter two points remain a frustrating point of contention.
(Kevin Estrada/Fox) We’re Already Wary of 9-1-1: Nashville’s Location
We’ve barely buried 9-1-1: Lone Star after they delivered one of a series’s most disappointing, unsatisfying final seasons in quite some time.

The new 9-1-1 spinoff has found its lead in NCIS: Los Angeles alum Chris O'Donnell. The actor plays Captain Don Sharpe, the captain of Nashville's busiest firehouse, who serves alongside his son. This casting is quite similar to the leads of the previous 9-1-1 shows, with an even closer similarity to Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) and his son Tk Strand (Ronen Rubinstein) from 9-1-1: Lone Star. 9-1-1 boss Tim Minear talked to TV Insider about the casting decision, explaining why O'Donnell was a good fit for the lead role. "I think he actually fits into this franchise in an interesting way, and I think it’ll be fun for him, too, because he was so great on NCIS: LA," Minear told the outlet. He discussed some previous projects in which O'Donnell has shown a lot of range, which is required for a lead actor, especially on a 9-1-1 show,...

A new 9-1-1 spin-off has its leading man.
Chris O’Donnell has joined the 9-1-1: Nashville cast.
The former NCIS: Los Angeles star had been taking a break from television following the cancellation of his show.
O’Donnell played the mysterious NCIS Special Agent G. Callen. That role kept him busy from 2009 to 2023.
NCIS: LA was his first time leading a hit television show, leading to crossover work on Hawaii Five-0, NCIS: Hawai’i, and NCIS.
A movie career is also featured in O’Donnell’s past.
O’Donnell’s most memorable film roles were as Charlie Simms in Scent of a Woman, D’Artagnan in The Three Musketeers, Robin in two Batman films, and Peter Garrett in Vertical Limit.
O’Donnell was also featured in nine exciting episodes of Grey’s Anatomy in 2006 as Dr. Finn Dandridge.

The 9-1-1 franchise is expanding once again, and this time it is recruiting one of the main stars of a beloved NCIS spinoff. Chris O’Donnell, who starred in NCIS: Los Angeles, is joining an offshoot of the ABC drama that will take place in a new location, Nashville, Tennessee. One of CBS’s most beloved shows has gone international. NCIS, the popular and long-running military criminal investigation series, has produced several spin-offs over the years, but this time it’s moved the crime tracking down under. NCIS: Sydney, the first of the NCIS franchise to go international, was recently renewed for Season 3 on CBS and Paramount. Fans of the original NCIS who aren’t watching are really missing out.
The fourth spin-off of the popular NCIS franchise, NCIS: Sydney joined CBS’ impressive catalog of crime investigation dramas with its premiere in 2023. Following a joint task force between American NCIS agents and Australian police, the series takes the familiar smart and sleek NCIS style and adds an international twist. While critics have generally praised the series, it has been a letdown for fans so far. But while the series, currently in its sophomore season, may have a number of growing pains,...

“General Hospital” has cast daytime newcomer Adrian Anchondo to portray the contract role of Marco, a lawyer with a mysterious past, beginning with the Thursday, March 13 episode of the ABC daytime drama series.
In an interview with TV Insider, Anchondo revealed that he had been in the running to play the newly created character for a few months, competing against several others vying for the role, before ultimately getting a call to return to the show’s studio four weeks later to meet with producers.
“It was very intimidating seeing all the beautiful Latino men there I was going up against, all younger,” he said of the experience. “But I really connected with the character, and I feel like I’ve been playing a lot of good guys going bad or bad guys going good, so I think this character is in my wheelhouse.”

During his stint playing Commander William Riker on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," Jonathan Frakes (seen above left) underwent a rudimentary director's boot camp. Frakes was interested in directing episodes of the show, and the producers said he would only be allowed to do so after shadowing other directors for 300 hours. Frakes put in his due diligence, and he ended up directing eight episodes of the series. The producers were so impressed that they also hired Frakes to direct two of the "Star Trek" feature films.
His directorial experience on "Next Generation," he found, could be parlayed into other directing gigs. For one, he remained with the "Star Trek" franchise for decades, coming back to helm episodes of "Deep Space Nine," "Voyager," "Discovery," "Strange New Worlds," and "Picard." He directed the family friend sci-fi adventure film "Clockstoppers" in 2002 and "Thunderbirds" in 2004, eventually moving exclusively into television, overseeing episodes of "Leverage,...

"NCIS" creator Donald P. Bellisario once threatened to cancel the series over a casting decision, proving that he wielded some major influence over the folks at CBS back in the day. However, some rumors out there indicate that Mark Harmon, who played Leroy Jethro Gibbs on the show, had more clout than the acclaimed showrunner -- and he used it to get him fired. In reality, though, the story isn't as simple as that.
According to the scuttlebutt, Harmon and Bellisario's feud stemmed from the Gibbs star being unhappy with the former "NCIS" showrunner over the behind-the-scenes working conditions. The cast and crew had to work long days, and Harmon reportedly felt that there was too much disorganization and chaos on the set. Bellisario parted ways with "NCIS" after four seasons shortly after, leading to the belief that CBS fired him from his own series at the behest of Harmon.

"NCIS." "NCIS: Los Angeles." "NCIS: New Orleans." NCIS: Hawai'i." "NCIS: Sydney." "NCIS: Origins." The four-letter acronym that signifies one of the most successful procedural franchises in history has been an ever-present small screen factor ever since "Jag" quietly launched the "NCIS" universe, and all of the shows feature charismatic teams of investigators who tackle colorful crimes every week. For viewers, seeing the letters "NCIS" has become borderline synonymous with an hour of fun with a quality procedural, but at some point, a viewer might start wondering: What, exactly, do those letters mean?
The various "NCIS" shows drop the full title on occasion, but a casual viewer is unlikely to catch it if they just tune in for a random episode. Fortunately, there's an answer to the question. "NCIS" stands for Naval Criminal Investigative Service, a military law enforcement agency that works under the U.S. Department of the Navy.

It’s been announced that Roberto Orci, the writer/producer behind Star Trek and Transformers, is dead at the age of 51 after a battle with kidney disease.

Despite the show's massive ensemble cast, the first character that comes to mind from "NCIS" is Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon). The stern former Marine Sniper steers the NCIS Major Case Response Team with a fatherly hand, establishing himself as the show's face and de facto lead during his 19-season tenure with the show.
However, things almost didn't play out this way. In fact, Harmon was very close to walking away from the show a mere four seasons into its run. According to TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, the reason behind the "NCIS" star's near-exit was the procedural's co-creator and original showrunner, Donald Bellisario. Per Ausiello's anonymous source, Bellisario's tardiness with the show's scripts and tendency to over-involve himself was a source of great frustration to Harmon, prompting the star to consider an exit after season 4:
"Mark's been working every single day, 16 hours a day. Don tries to micro-manage everything.

The NCIS team’s search into a Navy Lieutenant’s murder led them to an unwanted familiar face who was tied to Director Vance’s shooting the previous year. How was Fletcher Voss connected to this case in particular?
There was a theft at a blood bank and dozens of blood bags were torn apart, except for one, which Kasie realized had been stolen. She was able to determine the owner of the donated blood was Lauren Hawthorn, who seemed like an unassuming woman who worked for a software company.
When Parker and Knight went to her home to speak to her, they didn’t find her, until they followed the strong scent of bleach and discovered a barrel of acid and a body in said barrel. Eventually, Kasie was able to determine the body belonged to Lauren, so they needed to find her killer.

Before he was writing half the shows on Paramount+, Taylor Sheridan was an actor. The man behind shows like "Yellowstone" and "Tulsa King" and the scripts for films including "Sicario" and "Hell or High Water" cut his teeth with screen work, a pastime he occasionally returns to when he needs someone to play, say, a cool cowboy who's dating Bella Hadid.
Years before he became known as a Hollywood cowboy, I knew Sheridan as a mysterious man named Danny Boyd in the plucky teen detective show "Veronica Mars," and as the hate-worthy cop Deputy David Hale on FX's "Sons of Anarchy." Those may have been two of Sheridan's most high-profile TV roles, but they're far from his only acting credits. He's had bit parts going all the way back to "Walker, Texas Ranger" in 1995, and can be seen in one-off roles in shows like "CSI," "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,...

Great news: you can start watching every episode of "NCIS" and its multitude of spinoffs now and be finished with the show sometime before the next decade! Seriously, though, the long-running, incredibly popular series has, by this point, garnered enough spinoffs, prequels, and sequels to help keep the lights on at CBS for a long, long time.
In the past two years alone, two "NCIS" spin-offs have premiered, one has been greenlit, and another has gone to the big TV graveyard in the sky. It's a lot to keep track of, but luckily, the show's chronology is pretty straightforward. With the exception of a new prequel, all seven "NCIS"-adjacent shows take place in the present day in chronological order, although crossover events still make any watch-through complicated. If you are in the market for a marathon binge-watch,...

Quick LinksWhat's 'Jag' All About?'NCIS's Debut on 'Jag'
NCIS is one of the most iconic series out there. Its 22-season and 450+episode run put it among the top 10 longest-running scripted primetime shows on broadcast television. It's also spawned five spin-offs, many of which have gone on to enjoy long lives of their own. The latest spin-off, NCIS: Origins, follows a younger Leroy Jethro Gibbs as he's just starting out. But speaking of spin-offs, how many fans know that NCIS itself is a spin-off?
Many of NCIS's main stars and settings were introduced to viewers in the eighth season of CBS' Jag. Like its successors, Jag was also a long-running military-based procedural drama. It ran for 10 seasons and 227 episodes between 1995 and 2005. Those are impressive stats until you note that NCIS has more than doubled all those marks. It's exceedingly rare for a spin-off to outrun its parent series.

The "NCIS" franchise is amongst the most successful in the history of television. The flagship show is still going today after 22 seasons and is rapidly approaching 500 episodes. Created by Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill, it's rivaled only by the monster that is "Law & Order" as far as long-running prime time shows go. More than the show itself, "NCIS" is the gift that keeps on giving as it has spawned several very successful spin-offs, most notably "NCIS: New Orleans." That series, which premiered in 2014, had a stellar run that anyone who creates a show could only dream of. Still, even very good things must come to an end. But why did this beloved show have to end?

“The Night Agent” has returned with many new faces. Now that Peter Sutherland is officially a night agent, he must take on a new conspiracy mission with a new team.
Gabriel Basso will pick up the action, starring as Peter, and Luciane Buchanan will return as Rose. Though the couple ended their relationship at the end of Season 1, when Rose hears Peter is in trouble, she jumps at the opportunity to rekindle their relationship.
Because this season follows Peter on a new mission, several members of the original cast will not be back for Season 2, though, including Hong Chau and Robert Patrick.
Keep reading for the full cast and character guide.

NCIS has become a staple of television, and when talking about its impact, it’s not possible not to mention the original Major Case Response Team and the characters we will never forget. Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Abby Sciuto, Tony Dinozzo, Dr. Ducky Mallard, and Kate Todd have shaped NCIS into what it is today, each adding their unique touch to the show’s dynamic. While their shoes have been properly filled after their departures, their legacy continues to live on in the hearts of viewers.
As NCIS grew in popularity, ultimately becoming one of the longest-running series in the history of television, it branched out into five spinoff series. From NCIS: Los Angeles to NCIS: Hawaiʻi, the franchise’s impact on modern TV is undeniable. Plus, with an upcoming Tony & Ziva show finding its place in the NCIS timeline, the story continues with even more on the horizon.

NCIS has been on television for well over 20 seasons. There have also been several spinoff shows and connected shows in the universe. However, NCIS creator Donald Bellisario only ran the show for four seasons and never had anything to do with the spinoffs. This was because of Mark Harmon, and it all resulted in a lawsuit.
Here is what happened to the original NCIS creator.
Why Did Mark Harmon Push Out NCIS Creator?
Donald Bellisario was a significant player in television production for many years. He wrote for the original Battlestar Galactica. He created Magnum, P.I., Airwolf, Quantum Leap, Jag, and NCIS. However, after NCIS, he ended up out of the industry thanks to a feud with Mark Harmon and a lawsuit against CBS.

NCIS achieved only what a few television franchises could do, with widespread acclaim and lasting popularity. The procedural drama is filled with charismatic characters that have kept the audiences invested for decades.
