For 109 episodes, Colman Domingo played the role of Victor Strand on Fear the Walking Dead. That show came to an end last year, and Domingo has moved on with The Madness, a Netflix series that the streamer’s scripted series vice president Peter Friedlander has described as “a fresh take on the conspiracy thriller” that will turn “the genre on its head with its multilayered characters, propulsive action and swift pace.” I was fortunate enough to talk to star Domingo about his work as Muncie Daniels on the show, a complex role that really pushes him to his limits. You can check out our interview in the embed above.
Created by playwright Stephen Belber, who also serves as showrunner alongside executive producer VJ Boyd, The Madness has the following synopsis: Muncie Daniels is a political consultant-turned-tv pundit who may have lost his way in life. While on a work sabbatical...

Earlier today, we shared the news that It’s What’s Inside, a horror film executive produced by Fear the Walking Dead cast member Colman Domingo, is set to be released through the Netflix streaming service on October 4th. Now Netflix has announced the premiere date for another of their collaborations with Domingo, a thriller series called The Madness! This one will be coming along just under two months after the release of It’s What’s Inside, as all eight episodes of The Madness will be available to watch on Netflix as of November 28th. That date happens to be Thanksgiving day this year, so a press release notes that “the series will be a perfect binge watch during the long holiday weekend!” Along with the premiere date announcement comes the unveiling of a batch of first look images, which can be seen in this article.

Back in 1922 Campton Manor was the scene of an unexplained mass death, twenty-eight guests at a New Year’s party died of heart attacks at the same time. There was no trace of poison, and the case was never solved. The mansion has, needless to say, sat empty ever since.
Decades later, the film seems to be set in the 1950s, Teddy is a detective and a horror novelist. He’s helped in both of these careers by his ability to see, and talk to, the dead. Right now he’s more concerned with Jack. Despite his secretary’s best efforts, Jack keeps turning up in his office talking about Campton Manor, in fact he’s rather insistent that Teddy investigate it.

Relax, I'm From the Future is a time travel film with a unique twist, subverting cliches of the genre. Director Luke Higginson aimed to create a film that prioritizes humor and heart over hard sci-fi elements. The chemistry between actors Rhys Darby and Gabrielle Graham is a standout in the film, bringing the characters of Casper and Holly to life.
Fans of time travel stories will have a ball with Relax, I'm From the Future, which is the feature directorial debut of Luke Higginson. He also wrote the screenplay and edited the movie, culminating a ten-year journey since he first premiered the short film of the same name at TIFF 10.

Relax, I'm from the Future explores the battle between nihilism and optimism through its characters, offering thought-provoking discussions on the nature of activism and purpose. The comedy in the film benefits from its slower pace, allowing jokes to breathe and build, but the meandering structure and lack of bite in the humor prevent it from fully landing. The film's visual style is well-crafted, using split screens and stylized design to convey playfulness and provide insights into the characters' lives, but the editing style feels underutilized, missing the opportunity for more creativity. It's sweet but lacks substance.

I’ve watched enough Doctor Who to know time is a complicated construct with rules fluctuating from one interpretation to the next. Thankfully, Rhys Darby’s Casper has time travel all figured out in Relax, I’m From the Future, a new time-traveling comedy that finally breaks the multiversal merry-go-round we’ve been riding for the past few years. In today’s exclusive Relax, I’m From the Future clip, Casper dismisses the Butterfly Effect and misinformation about multiple realities.
The scene finds Casper and Holly (Gabrielle Graham) discussing multiversal misnomers in a dimly lit diner over piping hot mugs of jitter juice. Casper explains how there’s only one reality, and that time is more like a mushy blob than anything we’ve seen in movies. Doc Brown lied to us, folks! Oh, the humanity! While branching paths in the timeline exist, they eventually converge in the same direction, leading toward a pre-determined future.

"You're a very disappointing time traveler." Blue Fox Ent. has revealed an official US trailer for an indie sci-fi comedy from Canada titled Relax, I'm From the Future, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Luke Higginson. The film premiered at a few festivals in Canada earlier in 2023, and is now set to open in art house theaters in the US later this month. A man from the future, now trapped in the past, tries to make a life for himself, oblivious to the consequences he has set in motion. Rhys Darby stars as Casper, who is now in his "past", our present, who teams up with a nonconformist skeptic to bring about his "plan" of saving the world. The cast also includes Gabrielle Graham, Julian Richings, and Janine Theriault. It looks like a properly wacky indie creation that seems just goofy enough to be mostly enjoyable. Have fun. // Continue...

A casual time traveler unintentionally makes a mess of the future when his latest trip winds up having potentially catastrophic consequences in director Luke Higginson’s feature debut, Relax, I’m From the Future. Based on Higginson’s 2013 short of the same name, the feature version expands on the idea of a man from the distant future interrupting a suicide attempt and turns it into a kind of chaotic buddy comedy about the end of the world as we know it, maybe. Casper lands in our present day from some time far in the future with a mission: document and archive the past that is lost to future generations and maybe brighten a day or two. Before long, hungry and alone,...
