British royal family news reveals that tennis legend Serena Williams is close to Harry and Meghan Markle’s two kids, Archie and Lilibet.

The team behind opioid crime thriller “King Ivory” had a somewhat unorthodox journey to the Venice Film Festival this year.

When a delayed flight from New York meant they missed their connection by a matter of minutes, the group of six — including stars Ben Foster and Melissa Leo, plus producer Jeremy Rosen and writer/director John Swab — found themselves in Munich on a long waitlist for the only other plane going to Venice that day.

Thinking that the chances of them all getting seats were fairly slim, Rosen made what he describes as an “executive decision,” hiring a Mercedes Sprinter van for a seven-hour drive that took them from Germany into Italy through the Austrian Alps.

“It was truly like a camp trip… a camp trip for privileged children,” he notes. There was also a hint of danger — Swab claims that about halfway into the ride, he spotted Rosen “falling asleep at the wheel.

The shadow of Steven Soderbergh’s 2000 drug war epic, Traffic, hangs heavily over all the narcs, cartel members, native gangsters and fentanyl addicts populating director John Swab’s hard-nosed thriller, King Ivory. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Taking cues from a modern classic that depicted the battle to stop crack-cocaine from destroying America, Swab repeats the same structure over two decades later to tackle the opioid epidemic, and generally achieves strong results. Less dramatic and poetic than the Soderbergh film, King Ivory nonetheless boasts some harrowingly real action sequences, tough-as-nails characters and an overall level of grittiness that demands attention. Its uncompromisingly bleak view of fentanyl’s damaging hold on the U.S. is not necessarily a crowd-pleaser, but it well deserves a look.

The Ravening War Game Master, Matt Mercer, reveals that Critical Role has been sharing notes from their experience adapting campaigns in the hopes of creating an animated series with Dimension 20. Critical Role has had tremendous success adapting its first campaign into the popular animated series The Legend of Vox Machina. In the wake of the second season, Critical Role announced a deal with Amazon to produce more content, including another animated series based on their second campaign, Mighty Nein.

In an interview with Screen Rant for The Ravening War, Mercer discussed the potential for an animated adaptation of Dimension 20. He revealed that Critical Role has been "sharing notes" in the hopes of Dimension 20 following their lead. Mercer also shares which campaigns would be his picks for adaptation. The Ravening War follows an eclectic group of food-based characters, some royals while others are not, as they try to navigate the deadly politics of Calorum during a time of war.

Dimension 20 is an anthology Ttrpg series, with each season telling an original story with new characters. Matt Mercer (Critical Role) joins the table as Game Master. Screen Rant spoke with Anjali Bhimani about joining Dimension 20 for The Ravening War.

The newest season of Dimension 20 is called The Ravening War, and it's a prequel to the popular A Crown of Candy, which combines a world based on Candyland with the high-stakes politics of Game of Thrones. The Ravening War takes place 20 years before the events of A Crown of Candy, during Calorum's bloody worldwide war. The Ravening War will follow a new group of food-based characters as they attempt to navigate the deadly politics of the world during a time of war with potential death and betrayal around every turn.

Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive clip from Little Dixie, a new action film distributed by Paramount Pictures. Arriving in select theaters and on digital platforms this week, the revenge thriller follows what happens when a deal between a corrupt government official and a dangerous drug lord goes wrong. Doc Alexander (played by go-to action hero Frank Grillo) is an ex-special forces operative who finds himself trapped between a rock and a hard place as forces feud around him, but everyone else better duck for cover when he moves to protect what's his.

Little Dixie is written and directed by John Swab, who recently worked on Candy Land and Body Brokers. Aside from Grillo, it stars a powerful cast that includes Eric Dane (who has been making waves in Euphoria) as Governor Richard Jeffs, who gets Doc into the mess, and Annabeth Gish (Mayfair Witches) as Doc's associate Billie Riggs.

Today it is our pleasure to ask John Swab, director of Little Dixie, some questions before the movie premieres in a few days. Firstly, thank you for your time to be interviewed and, first things first: What sensations do you have on the premiere of Little Dixie?

A: We are very excited to premiere this in Rotterdam, then share with the rest of the world. All of these are labors of love. Little Dixie we are especially proud of.

Q: You team up again with Frank Grillo after Ida Red (2021) and Body Brokers (2021). What is your relationship with the star? Was Frank Grillo the inspiration for Little? What does John Swab bring to it and what does Grillo bring to the movie?

Frank Grillo impersonates a man that navigates between two seas and between borders, a classic anti-hero who due to the circumstances has to become a hero to save his daughter, Little Dixie, whom the movie is named after.

This is a movie of black and white contrasts with grey areas in which everything happens in dark tones with even darker characters. This film which has its source in the construction of classic cinema to, in a authentic and brutal style, destroy and separate itself from its genre.

In this film, the director, John Swab knows how to impose his own style.

Somehow landing on just the right side of exploitation sleaze, John Swab’s delightfully grungy horror drama Candy Land is very much a film of two halves. The first, a slice-of-life, almost mumblecore mosaic of truck-stop sex workers is exquisite in its own right, landing very much like a particularly well-written pulp novel, and leaning on a terrific ensemble of young actors (with William Baldwin as a tricky lawman). Right from the off, it’s frank with both its sexuality and its depictions of life on the outer rings of society, and would’ve made for something of a neat, if slightly artsier entry into the genre canon.

But then about twenty minutes in, naturally someone winds up dead, and Swab’s script finds a totally different purpose altogether, nestling a particularly bonkers (and brutal) slasher story in amongst the winning drama. The weird thing is it just about works...

In the opening scene of "The Least Dangerous Game" -- the second episode of the third season of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" -- the show's four main characters, in a rare moment of downtime, gather around a table to play a Klingon-based boardgame called "Bat'leths & bIHnuchs." The players are all dressed in Klingon clothing, and they drink from tapered ridged mugs that Klingons are typically seen using throughout "Star Trek." The game board is a hexagonal grid, and bears the red/blood orange/goldenrod color scheme of "The Settlers of Catan." The players roll a 20-sided die.

The central feature of "Bat'leths & bIHnuchs," however, is a small video screen arranged behind the board wherein a pre-recorded game master offers an introduction, dictates the actions of the players, and reacts angrily when they make a bad decision. The game that taught you how candlesticks could be used for murder is getting an animated series from Fox.

"Clue," the board game first sold in 1949, was turned into a live-action film back in 1985 and is getting the animation treatment from Hasbro's eOne and Fox Entertainment's Bento Box Entertainment. Don't get this series confused with the 20th Century Studios live-action remake that is set to star Ryan Reynolds, directed by James Bobin ("The Muppets").

If you cast your mind back to childhood, you may recall the board game with teeny tiny murder weapons, rooms where the murder took place, and suspects named Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, and Mr. Green (these names differ in some versions). The line-up for Grimmfest’s International Festival of Fantastic Film 2022 edition has been unveiled.

“The Loneliest Boy In The World” (U.K.) is set to open the U.K. horror and genre festival. The dark comedy, which stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Ashley Benson and Ben Miller is directed by Martin Owen and tells the story of “an unstable and otherworldly mother’s boy [who] seeks a replacement family in the local cemetery.”

Lee Thongkham’s “The Lake” (Thailand), a creature feature that sees the inhabitants of a small town take on a “threat of huge proportions,” will close the festival four days later.

Also on the line-up are the international premiere for Justin Long and Kate Bosworth’s “House Of Darkness,” (U.S.), Cannes film “Final Cut” (France) from from Oscar-winning writer-director Michel Hazanavicius, and Vincenzo Ricchiuto’s “The Goldsmith” (Italy), which features Italian cinema star Stefania Casini.

Final Cut from Michel Hazanavicius and Neil Labute’s House Of Darkness are among this year’s line-up for Grimmfest, a UK horror, sci-fi and fantasy festival, which will be held in Manchester frorm October 6-9.

Hazanavicius’ French comedy horror, a remake of 2017 Japanese title One Cut From The Dead, opened Cannes out of competition earlier this year.

House Of Darkness stars Justin Long and Kate Bosworth whose casual date takes a sinister turn. The gothic horror had its world premiere at Montreal’s Fantastia festival last month.
