Tracker stars Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw, a survivalist skilled in tracking down people and things. His estranged older brother, Russell, is played by Jensen Ackles. Russell is a former special forces operative and works for a private military contractor called Horizon Group.
Ackles and Hartley are long-time friends, which led to Ackles being cast as his on-screen brother. Russell brings a playful attitude, particularly in his second appearance, and plenty of Supernatural nods, including Dean Winchester’s signature exclamation.

Every episode of Tracker introduces a new missing persons case from a different location in the U.S. for survivalist Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) to tackle. The one case that has loomed over his head for decades, however, is that of the death of his father. Throughout the series, namely the first season, bits and pieces about Ashton’s (Lee Tergesen) mysterious death have come together.
In Season 2, Episode 13, titled “Neptune,” a new character is sort of introduced that might not completely disappear now that this case is done. In fact, some suspect, or at least hope that he might be a missing link to bring everything about Ashton Shaw to light.

The Texas-born Jensen Ackles is most famous for his fifteen-year run on the fan-favorite series Supernatural, where he played one of the beloved Winchester brothers. They traveled around the country hunting demons, ghosts, and more. Their nomadic lifestyle is not unlike that of Colter Shaw of CBS's new hit series Tracker. Colter Shaw is a rewardist who travels around the country and uses his survivalist skills to find missing people or objects.
Jensen Ackles has appeared in two episodes of the procedural crime drama as Colter’s estranged brother, Russell Shaw. Russell appears in the 12th episode of Tracker’s first season, “Off the Books.” While fans were quick to pick up on some of the nods to Supernatural in the episode, there was also a subtle reference to Jensen Ackles's real life.

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Tracker Season 2, Episode 13.For fans of Tracker, part of the reason that Colter Shaw’s (Justin Hartley) adventures are always so engaging is that his supporting cast keeps him on his toes. While Justin Hartley could no doubt lead the show all by himself, it helps that he has allies who he can rely on. With a great team behind him, Colter manages to find his mark each episode, and he couldn't do it without their help. But while Season 2 has already written off Robin Weigert's Teddi Bruin at the start of the season, the show has recently stepped away from another main cast member: Eric Graise's Bobby Exely. The problem is, we have no idea when he'll be back, if ever.

Based on the novel The Never Game by Jeffrey Deaver, Tracker follows expert survivalist Colter Shaw, portrayed by This Is Us and Smallville star Justin Hartley, as he employs his unique skillset to make a living by finding missing people and stolen items for reward money. Even though the series uses an episodic format that viewers have seen several times over when it comes to similar detective dramas, its narrative structure also includes an ongoing storyline surrounding Colter's past — pulling audiences back each week as its mystery slowly unravels.

Tubi, the free ad-supported streamer owned by Fox, continues to grow in popularity, as evidenced by data about Super Bowl viewership published in Nielsen’s monthly Gauge report.
Nielsen says that the Super Bowl, which aired on Fox this year, led Feb. 9 to become the second-most watched day of television since the measurement began aggregating monthly viewing reports in March of 2021 with more than 110 billion minutes watched. That stat is unsurprising, as this year’s big game was already reported as the most-watched in history with 127.7 million viewers.
But the most interesting data point about Super Bowl viewership was about streaming: Of those that streamed the game rather than watching on broadcast, one-third tuned in via Tubi. Tubi also attracted a different demographic than other platforms, with viewers skewing slightly female and being 38% more likely to fall within ages 18-34 than the game’s overall audience. Super Bowl Sunday was the second most-watched day of TV in the history of Nielsen’s monthly Gauge reports, exceeding 110 billion viewing minutes, Neilsen revealed Tuesday.
That milestone is thanks in large part to the 127.7 million viewers who watched the big game via Fox, and the simulcast on free ad-supported platform Tubi that accounted for a third of streaming usage.
Viewers that watched Tubi during the Super Bowl were 38% more likely to be in the 18 to 34 age range than the total game average and also skewed slightly female. Tubi’s February usage was up 17% over January to finish with 2% of total TV watch-time, its largest share since July 2024.
Overall, TV viewing on Feb. 9 trailed the all time leader, Super Bowl Sunday 2024, by just 500 million minutes.
Despite Tubi’s gains, YouTube still reigned supreme with the largest share of TV viewing for the month at 11.6%, a 2.5% increase versus the previous month.

In high school, Ben H. Winters went to see Total Recall, a loud Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi action blockbuster directed by Paul Verhoeven. When he noticed it was based on a story by Philip K. Dick, he decided to seek it out and read it.
His reaction was one of “Whoa,” as he recalls. “So that’s where this stuff is coming from,” he thought. It became his gateway into classic and heady science fiction from not just Dick but authors such as Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlin, Kurt Vonnegut and others.
“The guys were preoccupied with the idea what it meant being humans, what is meant to be alive,” he notes. “All of these trippy and deep and unsettling questions of the human condition become folded into these wild stories.”

As someone who loves the supporting cast of Tracker immensely, I am not against Colter eventually having a partner. They don’t necessarily need to be involved in every case, but if the known lone wolf shed his status and had someone by his side more often than not, I’d welcome it.
But that person shouldn’t be Billie Matalon.
(Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
When Billie was first introduced during Tracker Season 1 Episode 6, I loved the flirty banter between her and Colter and how they helped each other but also had to learn to trust each other again.
Their relationship did feel lived in (perhaps due to the star’s real-life marriage), and I was perfectly okay with her being someone who...

Viewers are adoring Tracker, an action drama starring Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw, a loner survivalist who works with a remote team to track down missing persons in exchange for reward money. His childhood growing up with an eccentric dad who taught his kids how to survive in the wilderness helped him hone his skills but also largely played into the lifestyle he chose.
Colter is never in one place for long, traveling the country in his truck with an Airstream trailer he calls home. It wouldn’t be a Tracker hour without Colter pulling his gun out no short of three times, and the hour gets bonus points if he gets shot at!
Tracker Season 2 Episode 13 felt like one big metaphor for Colter’s life: finding out the people you love have lied to you.
(Darko Sikman/CBS)
We’ve seen people disappear on this show in various manners, but seeing someone disappear from a dressing room was a rest.
Claire waltzed in and disappeared without anyone noticing, and immediately, it was safe to assume she had probably snuck out on her own.
The dressing room wasn’t exactly isolated from the rest of the store. So, for her to have been taken, someone in there would have noticed.

Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw and Oliver Rice as Logan in ‘Tracker’ season 2 episode 13
A man patiently waits for his wife to try on a dress in an upscale Manhattan store, only to discover she’s vanished on CBS’s Tracker season two episode 13. He begins to panic after discovering her purse and phone are still in the dressing room.
Velma (Abby McEnany) rings Colter (Justin Hartley) with details on the case, including that there’s a $20,000 reward. Colter’s close by and meets with the missing woman’s husband, Logan (Oliver Rice). He confirmed he called the police, but they seemed to assume Clare just ditched him. This is unlike her, and no one on social media has heard from her.
They check out the store for any clues the cops overlooked. Logan is an aeronautics researcher and often works on weekends. His wife dragged him to lunch and they went window shopping.

The talented and ever-charismatic Jensen Ackles and Justin Hartley are no strangers to the small screen, with both fan-favorite leading men having starred in a slew of smash-hit shows throughout their illustrious respective careers. Ackles is perhaps best known for his sensational tenure as the tough-as-nails demon hunter Dean Winchester in the dark fantasy knockout Supernatural, a beloved role he portrayed from 2005 to 2020 and one that helped the series become a certified cult classic.
Likewise, Justin Hartley skyrocketed to prominence when he joined the decorated ensemble cast of the tear-jerking drama This Is Us, appearing alongside famous faces like Milo Ventimiglia and Sterling K. Trackerfans knew this week's episode was going to be dark, but we had no idea just how dark – and violent – it would be. Season 2 continued its march toward the finale with Episode 12, "Monster," in which Colter encounters a serial killer whose crimes make for the series' most gruesome episode yet.

Tracker offers a great mix of traditional procedural and high-action drama. The series, based on the Jeffrey Deaver novel The Never Game, has drawn comparisons to Reacher. Justin Hartley stars as Colter Shaw, a skilled survivalist who lives a loner life on the road in his Airstream. He works with a remote team to locate missing persons in exchange for reward money.
The action drama did well out of the gate and was swiftly renewed for a second season. In February 2025, Tracker was renewed for a third season as well. While the show remains strong, there are a few things fans don’t like about Season 2 compared to Season 1 that they hope will be rectified soon.

While Tracker is a procedural that deals with different missing persons cases that survivalist Colter Shaw takes on from one episode to the next, there’s an overarching story that bleeds through the entire series. It’s that of the death of Colter’s father, Ashton. When Colter was a teenager, his father left their off-the-grid home without explanation. Colter went out an hour later to search for him and found him dead at the bottom of a cliff.
When Colter looked up, he saw his older brother Russell standing at the top of the cliff and assumed that he pushed their father to his death. He learned as an adult, however, that that wasn’t the case. The mystery has taken twists and turns since, but there’s no resolution. A fan theory, however, suggests that the situation is far more complicated than expected.

There have been a few changes in Tracker Season 2, including one main cast member leaving, the temporary abandonment of the family mystery (for now), and a darker, more violent tone to the cases that Colter Shaw investigates. At its heart, though, Tracker is still about Colter, a skilled survivalist who's working missing persons cases for reward money with the help of his team back home. His team are just as vital to these cases as Colter, and audiences are missing one particular fan-favorite, who has seemingly disappeared without a trace.
Colter's team includes Velma Bruin, who sources cases for him, Reenie Greene, his lawyer and friend who helps with legal-related issues, and Bobby Exley, a talented hacker who assists with anything on the technical side. But since Bobby has been Mia for some time, Tracker fans are curious why.

Tracker is an action drama that runs like a procedural. Colter Shaw is a skilled survivalist who lives on the go, driving his truck across the U.S. with his Airstream attached to the back that serves as his home. He works with a remote team to find people offering reward money for missing persons and takes on the cases to earn his living.
It’s a lonely lifestyle, but the choice to lead it stems from Colter’s childhood. That backstory was told in season one with twists, turns, and big reveals that have had fans eager to find out more. Colter must figure out how and why this young wife vanished before larger, more sinister forces find him,” he continues. Having this case set in New York City does bring its own complications. Colter will have to “face the challenges of tracking in a major metropolis,” says Reid. Tracker has become one of the most popular action dramas on television right now. In its second season and already renewed for a third, Justin Hartley stars as Colter Shaw, a fearless survivalist who lives on the go in his Airstream trailer and takes on unique missing persons cases. Using his incredible tracking and fighting skills, he works to find missing persons in exchange for reward money.

The FBI franchise was launched in 2018 with the debut of the flagship police procedural television series FBI, which continues to thrive as a cop drama in its seventh season. Midway through the first season, CBS announced the development of the first spin-off series,FBI: Most Wanted, which premiered in January 2020. The secondspin-off series, FBI: International, premiered in September 2021. The addition of FBI: International led to the formation of a formidable three-hour ‘FBI Night’ block for CBS on the network’s Tuesday prime-time schedule.
Thefranchise reached its zenith in May 2022 when CBS renewed all three shows for two additional seasons. The first sign of distress for the franchise was evident in April 2024, when CBS renewed FBI for three additional seasons while Most Wanted and International were only renewed for one more season.
