Less than two months from the end of its U.S. streaming service, Nordic entertainment hub Viaplay is back up and running as a channel on Prime Video. Prime Video is home to dozens of great add-on channels, and nearly all of them have weeklong free trials.
Viaplay’s initial launch in the U.S. and Canada helped push the streamer’s international subscriber total to 7.64 million, but the honeymoon was short-lived. Starting Wednesday, Prime members in the U.S. will be able to sign up for Viaplay for $5.99 per month (with a seven-day free trial available for eligible customers) through Prime Video Channels.

Viaplay shut its direct-to-consumer service in February, but the Scandi streamer is still active in the U.S.
The platform has struck a deal to launch a subscription channel on Prime Video Channels, offering originals such as Börje – The Journey of a Legend, Furia and Gold Run.
The channel launches on Prime Video Channels today, offering access to Viaplay for $5.99 a month, with a free seven-day trial.
The development comes after Viaplay closed its subscription streaming app in North America after a turbulent 2023 in which the Sweden-based company made 25% of its staff redundant and restructured around a package of sports rights and unscripted content. Expensive scripted shows were axed and sold, and the streamer has since pulled out of North America and the UK.
Exits from the Baltics and Poland are also coming, with Group President and CEO Jørgen Madsen Lindemann telling shareholders the company “will be different” in its annual report last month.

Naked and Afraid season 17 revisits cringey scenes, highlighting awkward first meetings and unfortunate accidents in nature. Season 6's "Melt Down Under" showcases intense tension between contestants, resulting in a forced tap out due to escalating threats. The reality series features scenes like a wasp sting mishap and a broken breast implant, adding awkward and cringe-inducing moments.
Naked and Afraid is filled with uncomfortable moments, but some scenes are more cringe than others. In one of the best reality TV series where two strangers are forced to survive a harsh environment together, there are bound to be awkward and cringe moments as the two — often opposite — personalities try to work together to survive in nature, but doing all that while naked makes the experience even more susceptible to awkward moments. While some moments in Naked and Afraid are fake, others are too real. As Naked and Afraid season 17 unfolds, it's time to revisit the cringe moments.

Revered and reviled U.S. diplomat Henry Kissinger, whose death at 100 on Nov. 29 was met with the widespread view that his realpolitik was responsible for some of this country’s worst global war crimes, loved American celebrity — both his own, an expression of state power, as well as that of others, especially performers. He was “the ultimate starfucker,” noted Daniel Drezner, professor of international politics at the Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, in an appraisal published earlier this year on the occasion of Kissinger’s centennial.

The Nordic streaming service Viaplay is carving out a niche for itself. Viaplay released its earnings report for the first quarter of 2023 on Tuesday, and it shows that the streamer’s international expansion has been a successful strategy so far.
Viaplay now has 7.64 million global users, a figure that’s up 60% year-over-year from 2021’s 4.78M. Viaplay saw an increase of 325,000 subscribers over the previous quarter, an increase that was no doubt aided by the addition of several markets to its distribution network.
7-Day Free Trial $5.99 / month viaplay.com
The biggest market that saw a Viaplay rollout recently was the United States. Viaplay launched in the U.S. on Feb. 22, and it’s reasonable to assume that much of the service’s subscriber gains over the last quarter are due to its domestic launch. Overall, Viaplay is now available in 33 markets across the globe.

Actress Grace Van Dien, 26, who famously played Stranger Thing‘s Chrissy Cunningham, has taken a hiatus from her acting career following alleged sexual harassment from an unnamed movie producer, who she said invited her for a threesome.
Though the break probably will not be permanent, she said, she wants to enter the industry on her own terms.
“Here’s the thing: I’ve seen that some people are upset with me for turning down acting projects and deciding to stream more, but the fact of the matter is, the last few projects I’ve worked on, I didn’t have the best experiences with some of the people I had to work for,” she announced during a March 7 Twitch livestream, mentioning that she had turned down four movie roles in the past two and a half weeks.
She explained that her choice will be a step forward for her mental health after the recent incident.

It took a global pandemic to get Interpol frontman Paul Banks to speak at a reasonable volume. For two decades, the singer and multi-instrumentalist has done a fairly good impression of a fire searcher, shouting through post-punk smoke at survivors. But because the band wrote its seventh full-length remotely, he mostly abandoned the known pleasures of Ian Curtis worship for a more nuanced approach. Banks’ version of keening (which is still pretty full-throated) kicked over a chain of dominos, which allow Interpol to make more introspective, textured, and altogether breathable...

Fascination over the mysterious identity of Deep Throat, the Watergate whistleblower, helped fuel the success of 1976’s Oscar-winning All the President’s Men, but it also led to another, far unlikelier project: 1999’s Dick, a bouncy comedy about two teen girls who unwittingly find themselves at the center of the scandal.

Much like with Jason Sudeikis earlier this season — and even a non-former “Saturday Night Live” cast member, like Owen Wilson — it’s surprising to realize that Will Forte had not hosted an episode of “Saturday Night Live” until this season. As Forte noted in his opening monologue, every former “SNL” cast member who was a repertory player at the time of his final season, Season 35 (12 years ago), managed to host before he ever did. Sometimes multiple times — and that even counted for John Mulaney, who was “just” a writer for the show, never a cast member. The state of emergency includes a curfew, with exceptions only for traveling to work, shopping and medical visits, and will run through Dec. 9. At that time, the government will re-evaluate the situation and decide whether to continue with the curfew.
In response to the notification that all cultural institutions, including cinemas, will be closed for at least two weeks as part of the curfew, Cinemax, the largest cinema operator in the country, announced across its social media profiles that it would pre-premiere Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci” one day early for those interested in catching in the theater. Jan Oliver Lucks, the New Zealand-based director of “There Is No I in Threesome,” has signed with U.S. talent agency ICM Partners for representation in all areas.
The controversial film about an open relationship premiered on WarnerMedia’s HBO Max streaming service earlier this year and was the first New Zealand movie to do so. “Threesome” will have its theatrical world premiere at the New Zealand International Film Festival in early November.
Lucks, who says he is always interested in film as a tool for exploring vulnerability, turned the camera on himself for “There Is No I In Threesome.” In love, newly engaged and maintaining a long-distance relationship, he and his fiancée decide to throw traditional rules out the window by opening-up their relationship before they tie the knot.
Lucks was born in Germany to an Iranian-Indian mother and a German father. In 2005 he moved to New Zealand to...

Compensation
Visual effects and animation studio Dneg, whose credits include “Dune” and “No Time to Die,” will pay enhanced overtime to its U.K. employees.
From October, Dneg will pay overtime at 1.5x rate to all U.K. staff in non-management positions for all incremental time that they are asked to work beyond the standard 40-hour week. The move will bring Dneg’s U.K. overtime policy in line with its studios in North America and applies across its film and episodic visual effects, Dneg Animation and ReDefine operations, including its artist, production, technology and support teams.
The decision is a departure from the existing U.K. industry norm, where employees are compensated for overtime with paid time off after a project is completed.
Dneg has won multiple awards over the years. In 2021 alone, the company won the visual effects BAFTA and Oscar for Christopher Nolan‘s “Tenet.”
