Few shows in the history of television can claim to be as successful as "NCIS." The show itself was a spin-off of sorts from "Jag," but has gone on to become a monster in its own right. The flagship series has lasted over 20 seasons, but has also launched several very successful spin-offs and become a broadcast TV juggernaut. When something like this lasts so long, actors tend to come and go. Such was the case with Jennifer Esposito, who had a relatively small but beloved part to play in the show's history.
Esposito entered "NCIS" season 14 as Alex Quinn and stayed for just one season. Come time for season 15, the actress had moved onto other projects and CBS was pressing on without her. So, why did Esposito leave "NCIS," exactly? At the time, there was speculation that it had to do with her health.

Aisling Franciosi, who played Lyanna Stark in Game of Thrones, recently spoke about the idea of reprising her role in a possible spinoff series centered on Robert’s Rebellion. Franciosi, best known as the mother of Jon Snow, revealed during an interview at the Sundance Film Festival that she’d love to be part of the franchise again.
She said, ‘Absolutely. Yeah, I would if it came up. It was fun to be a part of something [so big], even if I was a tiny part. It was fun to be a part of something so massive; really good fun.’ Franciosi also expressed her willingness to return even if her role remained small, much like her brief appearances in the original series.

While every reality series has different methods for entertaining their audiences, few things are as surefire of a way to get viewers excited as a good old-fashioned twist. From shocking rule changes to inventive spins on old setups, the biggest reality series are rife with these shifts in structure, strategically shocking their audiences — well, usually. But despite being one of the biggest reality programs ever and breaking barriers for LGBTQ+ representation, RuPaul's Drag Race has never really had a perfect twist. Created by RuPaul Charles and airing on MTV, the program has long sought a fun way to shake up its format; while always entertaining to watch a talented group of Drag Queens fight for the title of America's Next Drag Superstar, this long-lasting series is always looking for new ways to innovate its format. So it's been unfortunate to see it fail to find a twist that worked...at least,...

The Swiss-Peruvian-Spain co-production Queens, co-written and directed by Klaudia Reynicke, is set amidst the grueling reign of Alberto Fujimori’s dictatorship in the 1990s. During the social and political unrest, the story centers on the goings-on of an unconventional family living in Lima. Elena (Jimena Lindo) is a mother of two young daughters (Abril Gjurinovic and Luana Vega) who has chosen to accept a job offer in Minnesota to escape the country’s turmoil. However, she needs the legal signature of her estranged husband, Carlos (Gonzalo Molina), in order to take her children with her. When Carlos comes back into the picture, the girls, who don’t particularly enjoy his company, soon grow fond of him, complicating any chance of safety Elena has in store.

When working together on “Queens,” a period piece set in 1992 Peru, director Klaudia Reynicke and her director of photography Diego Romero found themselves having to confront the country’s tense political climate. This especially came into focus when filming the street protest scenes.
Reynicke had to find a workaround when it came to featuring communist drawings on the walls: “That’s something you can’t do in Peru because people are still very traumatized by the terrorists who were Maoist. So we had to think of specific scenes that we had to bring to Europe and do post-production special effects,” she says.
The film, previously released as “Reinas,” is Switzerland’s entry in the Oscars International Feature race and follows two sisters (Abril Gjurinovic and Luana Vega) and their family who find themselves torn between leaving their home country and staying after their absent father, Carlos (Gonzalo Molina), re-enters their lives.

Although Queens (Reinas) is Switzerland’s entry for the International Feature Oscar this year, the movie is actually set in Peru and told in Spanish. Director and co-writer Klaudia Reynicke, who left her native Peru at the age of 10, says the film helped her reconnect with her roots after spending most of her life in Europe and the U.S.
“I didn’t think it in a conscious way, but I had a need of going back to Peru and shooting something in Spanish,” she said during a panel at Deadline’s Contenders Film: International awards-season showcase. “Now that I have done it,” Reynicke added, “I can see that it was actually very important this reconnection, something has changed. I guess cinema allows this, right?”

Just as the Oscar Best Picture race remains wide open as 2024 comes to an end, there’s a similar sense of excitement mounting about the breadth and range of films competing for Best International Feature Film. The submissions process found 85 of the 89 films presented eligible, but the real work starts now, in terms of whittling those down first to a shortlist of 15 and then to the final five.
Perhaps more so than in recent years, the diversity is eye-popping, ranging from action thrillers and personal dramas to intimate documentaries. The cross-section is well represented at Deadline’s Contenders Film: International showcase, which kicks off today beginning at 9 a.m. Pt.

The 2x Golden Globe nominee recently revealed that his Malcolm in the Middle co-star still checks in on him “every couple of weeks” after playing his dad Hal on the Fox sitcom that ran for seven seasons from 2000 to 2006.

Jessica Alba and Tracey Nyberg’s Lady Metalmark Entertainment has boarded “Queens,” Switzerland’s official selection for the international feature Oscar, as executive producer.
The film follows two teenage sisters living in Peru in 1992 as the country slides into political unrest. They are about to leave with their mother to live in the U.S. but they need their father to sign consent papers — he’s been absent for years but now he decides to win back his two “queens.”
Abril Gjurinovic, Luana Vega and Jimena Lindo star. The film won the Audience Award at this year’s Locarno Film Festival and the Grand Prix in Generation Kplus at the Berlinale, after world premiering at the Sundance Film Festival.
Reynicke, who co-wrote the screenplay with Diego Vega Vidal, drew on her own experience of leaving Peru as a young girl during a period of political turmoil in the early 1990s.

L.A.-based Outsider Pictures, a U.S. distribution hub for Spanish-language cinema, has snagged North American rights to three International Oscar entries to the 97th Academy Awards: Costa Rica’s “Memories of a Burning Body,” Spain’s “Saturn Return” and Switzerland’s “Queens” (Reinas”), directed by Peruvian-born helmer, Klaudia Reynicke.
In addition, it has picked up Cannes Directors’ Fortnight title “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed” by Argentina’s Hernán Rosselli and Toronto Platform awardee “They Will Be Dust,” starring Chile’s Alfredo Castro and Spain’s Angela Molina.
“I think the recent acquisitions from Outsider reflect the exciting and challenging cinema being produced in Latin America and Spain. These may not be star driven or hugely commercial films, but like most independent cinema, they are labors of love, passion pieces that film-makers have worked so hard for and that any company would be proud to distribute,” said Outsider Pictures founder-ceo Paul Hudson.

Keke Palmer is looking back on a not-so-positive experience while filming Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the actress discusses writing her upcoming memoir Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative, in which she shares anecdotes from her career. In the book, Palmer writes of her two seasons on the Fox series Scream Queens, alongside Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Skyler Samuels and Lea Michele.
Specifically, she recalls a time Murphy allegedly called her “unprofessional” and a former co-star made a racist remark to her.
According to the L.A. Times, Palmer describes how after reviewing her shooting schedule, she arranged to take care of another business obligation on one of her days off. However, when that day came, production informed her that she was actually needed on set after all. But after Palmer decided to keep her prior obligation, she writes that...

A new stage adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 is in development, with Pulitzer Prize winner Martyna Majok attached as the playwright.
Glass Half Full Productions (Potus, Betrayal) and Aaron Glick (Kimberly Akimbo, What the Constitution Means to Me) are producing the adaptation, which is in early stages of development and aiming for Broadway. Majok comes to the project after winning the 2018 Pulitzer prize for drama for her Broadway play, Cost of Living.
In addition to writing Sanctuary City, Queens, and Ironbound, Majok wrote the libretto for the new musical Gatsby: An American Myth, with music by Florence Welch and Thomas Bartlett, which premiered last summer at the American Repertory Theater.
“The relevancy of mind domination and the end of the world in our current age needs no words; what struck me most in Fahrenheit 451 was its lens on our loneliness. How our yearning for connection and...

Kelsea Ballerini is used to making waves in the music industry, whether that be through her songs, performances or advocacy.
The 31-year-old singer has proved herself as an artist over the last decade, releasing five albums (she dropped her new album Patterns on Oct. 25), earning four Grammy nominations and scoring seven Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot Country chart. But she’s also made noise with her outspoken political views, which hasn’t always made things easy for her in an industry that typically isn’t all that hospitable to progressive politics.
Still, Ballerini has continued to go against the grain, following in the footsteps of a handful of opinionated country artists such as The Chicks. For example, Ballerini sparked controversy with her 2023 CMT Music Awards performance, when she brought out Drag Queens onstage amid Tennessee’s anti-drag legislation.
“There is just so much hate in the world and it...

Jaime Lannister is known as the Kingslayer in Game of Thrones, but he would have been slaying as king if George R.R. Martin had stuck to his original plan for A Song of Ice and Fire. Jaime is one of the most complicated and fascinating characters in both the books and the TV show (where he was brilliantly played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as part of Game of Thrones cast). Indeed, few characters undergo the kind of transformation he does, with hidden layers among his backstory few would have guessed at early on.
Of course, things were muddied by his controversial Game of Thrones ending, where he died alongside his sister, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). But its his beginning thats more interesting. In 1993, Martin had an overall plan for A Song of Ice and Fire, providing a structure for what then intended to be a trilogy of books. In it, Jaime...

Universal Pictures has amplified its promotional push for Wicked in recent weeks with a series of posters that have certainly done their job to generate interest for the film ahead of its November release. The marketing strategy has been great so far, with pre-sales said to be second to only Deadpool & Wolverine this year. However, one poster in particular seemed to rub fans the wrong way due to a slight alteration in the design, which pays homage to the Broadway musical's original promotional art. In response, some fans tried to make the current movie poster look more like the original, deeply offending star Cynthia Erivo in the process.
The original poster art for the Broadway show is an illustration that shows Elphaba with her signature hat covering her eyes, with Glinda leaning over and whispering in her ear. The latest movie poster for Wicked is a clear homage to that artwork,...

Well, Lafferty and Lenz have finally commented on their possible return. The Incredibles has been very successful as a movie series, but up to this point, it's been limited to animation. Now, a new video shared to YouTube imagines how the movie might look if it were to be reimagined with a live-action remake.
The video was shared by the YouTube channel Multiverse of Movies, which has been posting concept trailers for imaginary movies. They are made with the use of AI-generated imagery along with the likenesses and voices of real-life Hollywood stars. The newest video, imagining a live-action take on The Incredibles, similarly casts the faux film with several big names, including Kevin James (The King of Queens) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) serving as the leads. The full video can be watched below.

The 76th Primetime Emmys may not take place until this Sunday, but that hasn't stopped the first batch of shiny gold statues from being dutifully doled out already. During a star-studded ceremony at Los Angeles' Peacock Theater, the Creative Arts Emmy Awards — often referred to as the Tech Emmys — were announced. And, perhaps unsurprisingly given the staggering number of nominations achieved between them, feudal Japanese epic Shōgun and frenetic kitchen drama The Bear emerged as the two-night event's biggest winners. The former won an unprecedented 14 gongs, usurping Game Of Thrones' previous single drama series record of 12, whilst the latter snagged a not-too-shabby seven statues — including Guest Actor and Guest Actress awards for Jon Bernthal and Jamie Lee Curtis' Donna and Michael Berzatto.

“Shogun” received more Emmy Awards than any other show or program in history at the Creative Arts ceremony. Based on the novel by James Clavell, it tells the story of European traders arriving in feudal Japan. The show earned Emmys for its cinematography, production design, costumes, makeup, visual effects, and more. Actor Nestor Carbonell specifically won for Guest Actor in a Drama.
Disney as a whole ended the night with 51 Emmy Awards total across its different networks and platforms. FX alone broke its own record with 27 wins. FX’s comedy “The Bear” also had success, taking home 7 Creative Arts Emmys. “Shogun” and “The Bear’s” early wins position them as frontrunners for more awards at the main Emmy ceremony.

For years, HBO limited series John Adams‘ 13 Emmys in 2008 seemed untouchable, with a number of acclaimed ongoing and limited series coming close but not being able to match the feat in a single year. FX’s Shōgun did it ahead of the main telecast on Sunday, scoring record 14 wins at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
It was one of several highlights in a congratulatory email from Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Dana Walden who took a moment from the tense carriage negotiations with DirecTV that have entered a second week to celebrate the achievement.
“We kicked off the 76th Emmy Awards this weekend in Spectacular fashion, taking home an unbelievable 51 Creative Arts Emmys,” she wrote.
This is a combined total for the various Disney distribution platforms that are tallied separately by the TV Academy. More than half of it came from FX, which also broke its all-time Emmy record with 27 awards, with...
