The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced on Monday the 207 feature films eligible for Best Picture consideration, two days before voting for the 2025 Oscar nominations begins.

There are 323 feature films eligible for the Academy Awards, but just 207 met the Best Picture competition eligibility requirements.

As stated by the Academy in a press release, “To be eligible for consideration in the general entry categories, under rules implemented for the 97th Academy Awards year, feature films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in at least one of six U.S. metropolitan areas: Los Angeles County; the City of New York; the Bay Area; Chicago, Illinois; Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas; and Atlanta, Georgia, between Jan. 1, 2024, and Dec. 31, 2024, and complete a minimum qualifying run of seven consecutive days in the same venue. Feature films must have a running time of more than 40 minutes.”

The Day of the Jackal (2024) follows a highly skilled assassin who racks up quite the death toll over just 10 episodes, but he is not the only killer seen on screen. The series is an updated and contemporary adaptation of an earlier 1973 film, which was in turn based on a novel from a few years earlier by Frederick Forsyth. The series stars Eddie Redmayne as the titular Jackal, and Lashana Lynch as the determined MI6 agent Bianca Pullman, who is in hot pursuit.

While Jackal is clearly intended to a be a villain, with his role as an assassin being a clear sign of his morals, the series explores the complexity of everyone's motivations. Assassin. is a small film with big ambitions, and it arrives in cinemas atop a wave of controversy due not just to the grammatical horrors of its title but also to its uneasy relationship with the Zeitgeist.

The real life Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a prolific writer, so we know a good deal about his interior world, but rather less about his actions in Nazi Germany and the compromises that he may or may not have made in.

Actor Matthew Fox, best known for his iconic role as Jack Shepherd on the ABC hit Lost, has been cast as the lead in the Max drama series The Assassin. As per a report by Deadline, the series is based on the book series by British novelist Tom Wood, and is being developed by John Glenn, who has served as the showrunner on the popular series' Seal Team and Allegiance. Wood's book series, known as the Victor the Assassin series, began in 2011 with The Killer, and currently totals 11 novels, with a 12th due in November.

The books tell the story of a world-class assassin known only as Victor (to be played by Fox in the series), who goes on the run when he is betrayed by an anonymous client. Not only is he being hunted by his enemies, the CIA and a contract killer are after him as well.
