Just a few days ago, Challengers director Luca Guadagnino revealed his plans for a new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' seminal 1991 novel American Psycho. The success of the original film will be difficult to match largely due to Christian Bale's legendary performance as the progressively unhinged Patrick Bateman but Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story star Cooper Koch believes he's the man for the job, stating in a recent interview that he'd like to take on the role of Bateman as his next project.
It's no wonder that Guadagnino's plans for an American Psycho remake have already begun to make waves in Hollywood, given that the original film has become a major pop culture touchstone since its release in 2000. Although fans may have some difficulty imagining anyone other than Bale as American Psycho's iconic axe-swinging investment banker, Koch seems confident in his ability to handle the challenge.

Exclusive: Cooper Koch, the star of Ryan Murphy series Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story, has inked with UTA for representation.
Monsters centers on the 1989 murders of José and Kitty Menendez, who were killed by their sons. The show has racked up 53.6 million global views on Netflix since dropping on September 21.
Koch has raised eyebrows for his turn as Erik Menendez, specifically episode 5 of the Netflix series “The Hurt Man, in which he has a single 33-minute monologue. In that episode, there’s a slow zoom into Erik’s face as he details the 12 years of sexual, physical and mental abuse he claims drove him to patricide. Koch told Deadline that Murphy actually gave him a heads up about the monologue episode before signing onto the part. The actor had one rehearsal for it, with the episode getting shot over two days with a total of 10 takes.

The second season of Ryan Murphy's Monster franchise, titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menedez Story, is now streaming on Netflix and has made plenty of waves on social media. Nicholas Alexander Chavez (a fan favorite on General Hospital) and They/Them's Cooper Koch play the siblings, and the show dramatizes the events from the night they murdered their parents all the way through their life without parole sentencing.
The young stars' talent has been dominating the conversation on various platforms, but there has also been backlash about the style and tone of the show. There was a similar significant conversation surrounding the Jeffrey Dahmer season of Monster, although the fact that Lyle and Erik were also victims of their parents prior to the murder makes season 2 very different. Cooper Koch, who plays Erik Menendez in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “Monsters,” told TheWrap how he got into character to play the convicted murderer.
“I turned my trailer into Erik’s room so I had clothes everywhere, and I had pictures of him on the wall, pictures of me too,” said the actor, whose previous credits include “They/Them” and “Power Book II: Ghost,” at Monday night’s Los Angeles premiere.
Erik was 21 and his brother Lyle was 18 in 1989 when they shot and killed their parents, José and Kitty (played in the series by Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny) after years of alleged abuse. Both brothers were convicted and are still serving life sentences in prison.
“I looked at videos of me when I was really young, and I watched how my parents treated me, which gave me a level of gratitude for my family and my parents. I listened to [Erik] and watched him religiously.

Kevin Bacon has been in a good number of horror films over the decades, and he has admitted that he’s drawn to working in the genre because he’s a horror fan himself. Now it has been revealed that he and his wife Kyra Sedgwick are such big fans of the genre that they’re planning to co-direct and star in a horror film – and they’ve cast their daughter Sosie Bacon, who starred in the horror hit Smile, as a co-star!
Variety caught up with Sedgwick to interview her about her role in the Off Broadway play All of Me, and along the way they mentioned that she’s currently developing “a horror film she would star in with Bacon and their adult daughter, Sosie. The couple wants to co-direct the film, though the Directors Guild has other ideas.“
Sedgwick told them, “It’s very hard to get dual directing credit.

As film-making technology advances, movies are capable of more now than ever before. Modern horror films are crawling with over-the-top gore and unbelievable deaths that are often brought to life through CGI. The horror genre, however, has always been a shining example of what movie magic is truly capable of. Even before all the technological advancements of today, horror looked realistic, gritty, and hard to swallow. That's thanks to special FX makeup, prosthetics, and other practical effects that go into bringing terrifying moments to life.
Today, there's a large divide between the use of CGI and practical effects. It's hard to argue that some films wouldn't be the same without the use of CGI. It's hard to imagine any of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies without CGI, for example. That said, practical effects are still a surefire way to make sure something looks as realistic as possible. Many professionals still...

Horror fans tend to treat their favorite movies — no matter how schlocky or cheaply-made — as sacred cows, which puts an immeasurable amount of pressure on anyone who dares to remake, reboot, or legacyquel a beloved title. And yet, director Danishka Esterhazy handled that pressure with ease for her fantastic meta-remake of "Slumber Party Massacre," and quickly solidified herself as one of the most exciting new voices in horror.
Esterhazy had already earned a great deal of goodwill with her twisted take on "The Banana Splits Movie," and well-versed aficionados likely first learned of her work with the gripping sci-fi dystopian flick "Level 16," about a prison-like boarding school for girls harboring a demented secret. And luckily for fans of all things scary and slasher, Esterhazy has a new film coming to the Tubi streaming service on May 17, 2024, called "Killer Body Count." Jennifer Nettles, lead vocalist of the country duo Sugarland and a successful solo artist, got into acting by playing Dolly Parton’s mother in the 2015 TV movie Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors. Since then she has appeared in the sequel to that movie, Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love, performed in Chicago and Waitress on Broadway, had roles in the film Harriet and the TV series Underground, and appeared on multiple episodes of the HBO show The Righteous Gemstones… which happens to be executive produced by David Gordon Green, so that paved the way for her to have a role in Green’s most recent film, The Exorcist: Believer. When it comes to movies, we live in a world of tentpole franchises, sequels, re-imaginings, and reboots. These films are done to varying success; some perform better than others. Like any movie, it comes down to story, direction, and acting. If you nail those three things, you can make a pretty entertaining film...even if it is a reboot.
One concept that's always in discussion as a potential reboot is the iconic 80s horror franchise, A Nightmare on Elm Street. The original movie is not a stranger to the reboot treatment, as a version was released in 2010 starring Jackie Earle Haley as the iconic Freddy Krueger. Needless to say, this particular reboot fell flat for many fans and did not come anywhere close to the original's success. This was partly due to the man wearing the striped sweater, Jackie Earle Haley, who played Freddy as a darker, more sinister slasher...

Drum & Lace, aka Sofia degli Alessandri-Hultquist, is an artist and composer from Florence, Italy. Her music has been described as being genre-fluid and having a “chameleon-like nature” (A Closer Listen), melding together sampled field recordings, lush layers of synths, chamber instruments and electronic beats. She draws inspiration from film music, music concrete and nature to create textural electronica, often blending unlikely sounds with one another.

One of Kevin Bacon’s earliest roles came in the 1980 slasher classic Friday the 13th, and he has enjoyed returning to the horror genre now and then ever since. A few years ago, he teamed up with Blumhouse Television to try to get a television series follow-up to the creature feature Tremors going at Syfy. That didn’t work out, but now Bacon and Blumhouse Television are joining forces again for a horror action series called The Bondsman!
Deadline reports that The Bondsman is set up at Amazon’s Prime Video. Bacon will be taking on the role of Hub Halloran, a backwoods bounty hunter who comes back from the dead with an unexpected second chance at life, and love, and a nearly-forgotten musical career — only to find that his old job now has a demonic new twist.
The first season of the series is expected to consist of eight half-hour episodes.

With too much television, viewing every piece of content that is up for consideration for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards nominations is impossible. With 163 drama series, 95 comedies, 51 limited or anthologies and 61 television movies, every TV-goer has their tastes.
Variety staffers have come together to curate its own dream Primetime Emmys ballot, with voting set to close at 10 p.m. Pt tonight.
However, it should be noted — we love consistency, especially in TV land.
With our selections, we want to continue to promote (and advocate) for the Television Academy to allow 10 nominees in the top series categories. In addition, we would love to see uniformity in the acting races or a performer felt like a leading entry as opposed to a supporting, then we recognized as such. We also combined all of the reality, variety and documentary into each of their respective races. Not every type of show needs its own category.

Jamie Babbit's directorial debut But I'm a Cheerleader, although initially seen as a commercial flop in 1999, has been heralded as a cinematic classic by the LGBTQ+ community. Starring Poker Face's Natasha Lyonne as Megan Bloomfield, the film's titular cheerleader character, But I'm a Cheerleader explores sexual identity, gender roles and the pervasive problem that is heteronormativity. Whereas mainstream audiences thought negatively of the film during its release, queer audiences who had longed for a movie of its kind were gripped by its story and characters, which allowed it to achieve its status as a cult classic. Even today, almost 25 years later, But I'm a Cheerleader is still beloved as one of the best gay teen comedies.
But while But I'm a Cheerleader resonated with the queer community decades ago because of the strengthening acceptance of queer culture, a revisit might make one wonder if it holds up. Some...

For many of us millennial queer kids, representation wasn’t really a thing that we had throughout the ‘90s and into the early aughts. While recent years have seen stories from the LGBTQ+ community told in dramas like Blue is the Warmest Color and Moonlight, horror flicks like They/Them, and even reality shows such as Netflix’s recently released, The Ultimatum: Queer Love, the options weren’t as endless back in the day. Sure, we had the original versions of The L Word and Queer as Folk as well as the cult-classic Natasha Lyonne-led film, But I’m a Cheerleader, but they were hard to access and not in the mainstream.

When thinking about Scream Kings, some names that come to mind might include Robert Englund, Bruce Campbell, and Bill Skarsgård. These actors have truly embodied some special characters that stay in a horror heart until the end of time. But what about Kevin Bacon? Bacon has been a mainstay in the horror genre since 1980 when he helped to kickstart the Friday The 13th franchise. Cult favorites like Tremors and Flatliners as well as more recent horror films like They/Them and You Should Have Left remind us that Kevin Bacon is a Scream King who doesn’t get the appreciation he deserves. As previously reported, the script for Michael comes from John Logan, the screenwriter behind several good movies and a few duds (Star Trek: Nemesis). After scoring one of the decade’s great critical and commercial successes with Jordan Peele’s “Get Out,” it’s no wonder that Blumhouse Productions doubled down on the low-budget “social thriller.” Their prevailing model that’s overtaken the genre has seen delights and duds.
