The Wheel of Time Season 3 Episode 4 Gives Rand the Spotlight That He Has Deserved for Three Seasons
You know, it could be me, but The Wheel of Time’s Moiraine might need to worry about Lanfear. Maybe it’s just paranoia, but there’s a good chance the Aes Sedai is headed for trouble with The Forsaken.
After kicking things off with a literal bang, the series has not wasted time throwing the characters into one adventure after another with enough action to keep sci-fi enthusiasts foaming at the mouth.
This episode, in particular, helped to expand so many aspects of The Wheel of Time, from the history of the current dragon to the lore surrounding the different ages.
(Prime/Screenshot)
More than anything, though, “The Road to the Spear” showed the clear inspirations drawn from recent hits with other fantasy and science fiction franchises.
The Wheel of Time Continues to Emulates Clear Themes and Story Elements Found in Other Big-Budget Fantasy Franchises.

Late in the new Netflix limited series The Residence, a character complains, “People like a murder mystery! They think they’re fun!” After a beat, though, he can’t help but admit, “And it is fun.”
“Fun” is absolutely the watchword of this comic thriller, created by Paul William Davies and produced by Shonda Rhimes, which cross-pollinates Davies and Rhimes’ work on Scandal with the DNA of lots of classic whodunits, from Miss Marple all the way through to the Benoit Blanc/Knives Out trilogy. In 2012, Uzo Aduba came to Netflix a complete unknown. The role on the streamer’s Orange Is The New Black made her a star and a two-time Emmy winner. (She has since won a third Emmy for the FX limited series Mrs. America.)
In her first ongoing series since Oitnb, Aduba headlines Netflix’s murder mystery The Residence which, like Oitnb, mixes comedy and drama.
“It feels like a homecoming, in some ways, coming back to Netflix on a series — the only place I’ve done a series — which is so amazing,” Aduba told Deadline in a joint interview with co-star Randall Park, clips from which you can watch throughout the post. “And to come back to another show that is top notch, by my opinion anyway, that...

A new true-crime series is coming to Netflix, and it has one of the busiest filmmakers working today at the helm. Executive produced by Guy Ritchie, the docuseries The Diamond Heist covers what Netflix described as the biggest heist of all time —the Millennium Dome raid. The stunning story is recreated with dramatic effect, and some of the main perpetrators tell their side of the whole ordeal.
The Diamond Heist follows the attempted robbery of a "priceless" diamond at an exhibition in the Millennium Dome located in Greenwich, South East London. Lee Wenham, one of the main perpetrators of the attempted crime, narrates much of the teaser. In true Ritchie fashion, the recreation of the heist is as punchy and visually enthralling as one expects. Even though it is a documentary series, the aesthetic and tone normally associated with the filmmaker are not lost, and it's easy to see why...

The animated series has tragically flown under the radar since it began back in 2022, but now, fans of the sci-fi drama are pushing to raise the profile of Pantheon, taking to social media to persuade streamers to add the series to their lists.

Exclusive: Mark Gatiss is suitably on-trend with Bookish. He created and stars in the upcoming series as Gabriel Book, an eccentric bookshop owner and expert sleuth who helps the police solve tricky cases. The show has contained stories – one crime plays out over two episodes – and there are lighthearted elements and something comforting about the cluttered antiquarian bookshop, situated in a picture-perfect historic London lane. There is pre-launch buzz and international buyers have already started snapping up the series.
This is cozy crime, but as the show unfolds, Gatiss’ writing reveals layers and wrinkles that give the series teeth.
“It’s become a bit of an instant cliche, ‘cozy crime’, but I don’t think it has to be,” Gatiss tells Deadline. “It can be welcoming, and this has period elements that people love, and they love a world where you can’t solve crimes with computers. But it’s...

Manga readers might be drawn to series with the high action scenes or even the best illustrations, but for many readers, it all boils down to the writing and the story being told. Strong writing is the foundation for any worthwhile manga series, taking the form of finely crafted dialogue, deep and thoughtful themes, and a complex, multilayered plot. The manga sewries with the best writing are often the most cerebral and memorable of all, whether the art can keep pace with it, or not.
Plenty of popular manga series have decent writing to keep the plot moving, but the manga that go above and beyond bring something lasting and special to the story that readers won't ever forget. Those well-written manga series may or may not be famous or legendary, but any reader who dives in will definitely appreciate the quality of the writing found inside. Those who hear the name Steven Moffat likely associate him most with his time as showrunner for the long-running BBC series Doctor Who; however, Moffat’s abilities as a creator of television have expanded beyond science fiction and into the realm of drama through his work on such shows as Sherlock and the most recent adaptation of The Time Traveler’s Wife. One of Moffat’s latest endeavors is Douglas Is Cancelled, written by Moffat and directed by Ben Palmer, has now landed on BritBox for Americans to enjoy. The four-part series is a raw, insidious depiction of workplace harassment driven by deeply-set misogynist ideals with a “boys will be boys” mentality.

If you were ever wondering what a blank check earned off the success of a show as popular as "Peaky Blinders" can buy you, the answer is a new streaming series as thrilling and well-crafted as "A Thousand Blows." Creator Steven Knight, the prodigious screenwriter behind movies such as "Locke," "Spencer," and the recent biopic "Maria," could've gone in any number of directions after crafting the Cillian Murphy-starring story about a gang of criminals making their way up from the slums of Birmingham to the very seat of power in early 1900s England. The fact that he chose to stay in roughly the same lane, this time set in 1880s London and following a gang of female thieves crossing paths with a pair of aspiring boxers from Jamaica, is precisely what makes this next effort so intriguing to watch. Write what you know, the old adage goes, and Knight...

For most of American television history, viewers could expect long-running shows to release new episodes incredibly frequently. I Love Lucy, for instance, never had even six months off the air between seasons. The same can be said for other top shows throughout the decades, which aired a new season air every year on a fairly strict September-through-May schedule.
This regularity is precisely why American fans joked about how long they had to wait for new seasons of Sherlock when it was airing, as the two-year gaps seemed excruciatingly long. However, that structure, which is more normal across the pond, is now becoming the standard in the States as well. It doesn't seem to matter how many episodes are in the series or what genre it is; new seasons of TV are taking a long time to make.

One day longer and hosting unveils of big, big must-check-out series such as Paramount’s “King & Conqueror,” Fremantle’s “Sandokan” and BBC Studios reboot “Walking With Dinosaurs,” this week’s London TV Screenings did nothing to dent its recent status in a new biz order as one of Europe’s two key TV markets alongside October’s Mipcom.

Before he became famous for Doctor Who and Sherlock, Steven Moffat was well-known for comedy. Douglas Is Cancelled, which has its U.S. premiere on BritBox March 6, brings him back to his British television roots. It's like The Newsroom on steroids with a British flavor and an all-star cast. And it's a wickedly entertaining ride.
The title explains exactly what the show is: Douglas Is Cancelled traces the public downfall of beloved news presenter Douglas Bellowes, who is overheard making a sexist joke at a friend's wedding. Thanks to social media and cancel culture, the situation spirals out of control. Featuring a great lead performance from Paddington star Hugh Bonneville, it's a rapid-fire miniseries that never really slows down.

TV adaptations of popular novels and book series can become some of the best and most critically acclaimed television series. Shows like Game of Thrones, You and Bridgerton adapted different book series and quickly became cultural phenomenons. Other shows like Bosch, The Sinner and Sherlock have turned crime books into critically acclaimed crime dramas and procedural series. It's safe to say that TV adaptations of novels and book series won't go away any time soon. And in 2025, fans have many adaptations to look forward to.
There are a lot of book adaptations expected for 2025. While many book adaptations are set to debut on the big screen, fans of TV shows will be happy to know many book adaptations are coming to the small screen as well. Fans who enjoy reading a book before watching a movie or TV show adaptation might have a lot of homework to do this year.

I'm nothing if not the prime audience for a good Victorian-era period piece. Maybe it was my weird childhood obsession with Jack the Ripper, or the fact that I grew up at the exact right time to experience Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes movies as formative pieces of cinema. It shouldn't come as a surprise that the beloved Sherlock Holmes franchise still continues with new media 140 years after it began with A Study in Scarlet. The CW is up next with the spinoff series Sherlock & Daughter. The great English actor David Thewlis plays the iconic detective, while rising star Blu Hunt (The New Mutants) portrays his offspring. MovieWeb recently caught up with Hunt while she was promoting her new Shudder film The Dead Thing, and the actress also took time to preview what's to come with her new CW show.
"It's not really a reinvention because, obviously, Sherlock Holmes has a daughter," Hunt told us. "Everyone's always thinking of them as being, like, basically asexual, you know? But I mean, working with David Thewlis is, like, more than a dream come true. And he's like the coolest person ever, and he taught me so much about acting, and it's just a great memory.

Benedict Cumberbatch recently reflected on his most controversial movie role to date, and revealed he has apologized profusely to audiences and fans for what was described by many as a transphobic performance. As well as bringing Sherlock Holmes to the 21st Century in the aptly titled Sherlock, and playing another eponymous hero in the McU's Doctor Strange, Cumberbatch has occasionally made some questionable project choices. Easily the worst of them all was to take on a small "satirical" role in the panned 2016 sequel, Zoolander 2, which saw Ben Stiller return as Derek Zoolander and Owen Wilson reprise the role of Hansel. Cumberbatch played a non-binary model, named All, and audiences hated the character.
During a recent interview with Variety, Cumberbatch recounted the controversial role and revealed that he repeatedly apologizes to audiences and fans when it is brought up, saying he will never play another character like that again. "I...

Despite a twelve-year gap between its first and second iterations, Law & Orderremains a beloved title among Primetime procedural dramas. The original show inspired countless spinoffs, including the equally successful Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, so fans have plenty to enjoy when each season ends. Still, there are more procedurals in the world than the ones in Dick Wolf’s prolific portfolio.
Perhaps what you’re after is something more grounded and — for lack of a better term — realistic. Maybe you want something classic, timeless, and absurdly engaging. If that’s the case, your perfect match began over half a decade ago. You want the granddaddy of modern crime-fighting procedurals. Perry Mason first graced television screens in the distant year of 1957. The legal procedural cast Raymond Burr as its hard-boiled lawyer. Cumberbatch has walked back his comments, however, and is now claiming that the good doctor will factor into the movie after all.
