Exclusive: Lauren McQueen (Here) has been cast as the female lead opposite Jack Patten in MGM+‘s upcoming series Robin Hood.

Rounding out the main cast of the drama are Lydia Peckham (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), Steven Waddington (The Trap), Marcus Fraser (Foundation), Angus Castle-Doughty (Shadow and Bone) and actor/digital creator Henry Rowley. In addition to Patten, they join previously cast Sean Bean.

From Lionsgate TV and showrunner John Glenn, Robin Hood is described as a sweeping, romantic adventure, a modern take of the classic tale that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth, and a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian.

In the series, following the Norman invasion of England, Rob (Patten) – a Saxon forester’s son – and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord – fall in love and work together to fight for justice and freedom.

Director Martin Campbell, who has successfully rebooted the James Bond franchise twice, first with Pierce Brosnan’s first outing in 1995’s GoldenEye and again in Daniel Craig’s first movie Casino Royale in 2006, has now predicted when he thinks the latest era of 007 will begin. Exclusive: After recurring on HBO’s The Franchise, which spoofed Marvel-like superhero movies, Ruaridh Mollica is stepping into the MCU with a series regular role in the Marvel superhero series for Disney+ Vision, sources tell Deadline.

The Vision spinoff, headlined by Paul Bettany, is said to take place after the events in WandaVision where the character made a return after Thanos killed him in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. The new series is believed to follow Vision (Bettany) as he tries to regain his memory and humanity.

Mollica will play a character named Tucker. In addition to Bettany, he joins previously cast James Spader, who reprises his MCU role of Ultron, Todd Stashwick, and Faran Tahir, who will reprise the role of Raza.

Vision is the second WandaVision spinoff, following the recent buzzy release Agatha All Along. Next on Marvel’s Disney+ slate is the March debut of Daredevil: Born Again.

Exclusive: John Ridley, the Oscar winner behind 12 Years a Slave, is developing a feature take on Isaac Asimov’s 1954 sci-fi novel The Caves of Steel for 20th Century Studios, Deadline can reveal.

Ridley plans to direct Caves of Steel, having written the most recent draft of the script with Cheo Hodari Coker, the multi-hyphenate best known for creating Marvel’s recent Luke Cage series.

A landmark work of science fiction, which is the first in Asimov’s Robot series, The Caves of Steel introduces readers to a future Earth where humanity has retreated into vast, domed cities — known as the “Caves of Steel” — to escape the harshness of the outside world. The story follows Elijah Baley, a New York City detective who is reluctantly partnered with R. Daneel Olivaw, a humanoid robot, to solve the high-profile murder of a “Spacer” scientist. As Baley navigates the investigation, tensions arise between Earth’s overcrowded, robot-wary society and the more advanced Spacer civilizations, which embrace robotic integration.

Previously, BBC adapted the novel for television, with radio and game adaptations also emerging. Sources said Ridley’s film may also take inspiration from The Caves of Steel‘s sequels, The Naked Sun and The Robots of Dawn.

For Asimov, the Robot series captured a longtime interest in artificial intelligence, which produced his influential “Three Laws of Robotics.” Introduced in his 1942 short story “Runaround,” these laws have become a framework for discussing AI ethics and the challenges of programming intelligent systems to interact safely and effectively with humans.

Asimov’s “Three Laws” are discussed in I, Robot, the 2004 film starring Will Smith, which took inspiration (and its name) from the Russian-born author’s collection of short stories, published in 1950. One of the most prolific and influential writers in the history of science fiction, Asimov is also well known for his Foundation series, exploring the rise and fall of civilizations across a galactic empire, which inspired the Apple series, heading into its third season. Notably, he also co-wrote 1992’s The Positronic Man, which was adapted into the 1999 film Bicentennial Man starring Robin Williams.

Ridley won an Oscar for writing Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, earning three Emmy nominations for his work on American Crime, the anthology he created for ABC. Most recently, he wrote, directed, and produced Shirley, a biopic of the United States’ first Black congresswoman, Shirley Chisholm, for Netflix, which starred Academy Award winner Regina King. As a director, his other credits include series like Five Days at Memorial, Godfather of Harlem, Guerrilla and Let It Fall: Los Angeles 1982-1992, as well as 2013’s Jimi: All Is by My Side. Ridley is also known for his work with DC Comics including “The Other History of the DC Universe,” “Gcpd: The Blue Wall,” and the recently released “Justice League: The Atom Project #1.”

Most recently writing on and co-producing Paris Barclay’s doc Billy Preston: That’s the Way God Planned It on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee of the same name, Coker has also worked on films like Notorious and Creed II, along with Southland, Ray Donovan and other series.

Gladiator II continues to battle its way up the box-office ranks as its theatrical run nears its end. However, Paramount Pictures may not be entertained when the final financial returns from Ridley Scott's epic historical sequel emerge.

Via Collider, the Gladiator sequel has moved up the all-time R-rated movie box office charts with its current tally of $455.7 million worldwide, closing with $1.2 million last weekend and now showing in less than 1,500 cinemas domestically as its theatrical run draws to a close. Gladiator II is now among the 30 highest-grossing R-rated films in history, surpassing 2003's The Last Samurai ($454.6 million worldwide) to jump into 30th place on the all-time list.

Paul Mescal will no longer star in Ridley Scott's next film, and reports hint that one of the stars of HBO's Euphoria will soon have the role.

As per the standard filmmaking process, Gladiator II obviously deleted some scenes for the final theatrical cut, and some of these changes were doubtlessly in the best interest of the story and moviegoing experience. To the surprise of no one, Ridley Scotts Gladiator II features a lot of historical inaccuracies, at least thats according to noted scholars who happen to be in the know about such things. Magpie stars Daisy Ridley (Star Wars) and Shazad Latif (Profile) as a couple whose seemingly idyllic life is thrown astray when their daughter is cast in a film alongside an attractive young actress. Tom Bateman: I’m so glad you picked up on that because it was one of the initial driving forces behind me really loving this idea that Daisy had.

Joseph Quinn has been tapped to play George Harrison in a series of Beatles biopics directed by Sam Mendes. The lives of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and Harrison will be explored and told from each members point of view across four movies. According to multiple reports, Femme star Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon, Paul Mescal (Gladiator II) will portray Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) is Ringo Starr and Charlie Rowe (Rocketman) was allegedly set to play Harrison, but The Sun reports that Mendes personally selected Quinn for the role.

While Russell Crowe's career has been stacked with critically-acclaimed performances and major blockbusters he has also been a part of some historical failures, including the 2000 action thriller Proof of Life. In the movie, Russell Crowe portrayed Terry Thorne, a professional hostage negotiator and former member of the British Special Air Service, who assists in tracking down a woman's kidnapped husband. The director, Taylor Hackford, imagined that Proof of Life was going to be a much bigger hit than it was.

Proof of Life received mixed reviews and heavily underperformed at the box office, reeling in $62 million as the studio failed to profit against the movie's $65 million budget. Chronicling the life and career of French military leader and emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, Scott's latest historical epic stars Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, with Vanessa Kirby playing his lover, Josephine. The film was met with somewhat mixed reviews upon its theatrical release last November, and it subsequently became available for rental and purchase on VOD platforms on January 9.
