Principal photography began on 6 July 2021 (almost a year before Totally Killer (2023), a similar genre film, was first announced) in Winnipeg, Canada, and ended in August, with cinematography work done by Tony Mirza and Halyna Hutchins before Hutchins worked on her final film, Rust (2024).
A delayed release had the movie having to change the year to 2024 from 2023, yet Lucy still says it's 20 years since Summer died, even though it's 21 years.
The movie was delayed because of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Several fashion items trending from 2003 can be seen in the halls of the high school, most notably the Ugg boots and Juicy Couture velour pants.
