Nicolas Cage's post-apocalyptic horror film Arcadian has taken no time to make its presence known on Hulu, shooting straight to the top of the movie chart after debuting on January 24. The movie, which initially premiered at South by Southwest (SXSW) in March 2024, followed by a wide release in April, received mostly positive reviews, praising the film as a solid entry in Cage's extensive filmography. Now, Arcadian will be added to the handful of Nicolas Cage films already available on the streaming service.

Exclusive: David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil), Ashley Greene (Twilight), and newcomer Samantha Cochran will topline The Cure, a horror thriller from director Nancy Leopardi that has wrapped production in Los Angeles.
Written by Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer, who penned Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane, the film centers on Cochran’s Ally Braun, an adopted 16-year-old with a mysterious illness who learns her bio-tech billionaire parents (Dastmalchian and Greene) are harvesting her blood for nefarious purposes.
In a statement to Deadline, Leopardi called the film “a satirical take on the modern billionaire class cloaked in a crowd-pleasing thriller,” adding, “The Cure is made in the tradition of classic horror and sci-fi films that are inspired by terrifying socio-political realities and advances in bio-technology. Like Ex-Machina, A.I., and Videodrome I believe we are on the cusp of a revolution in science and the big question is – who will benefit?”

The film from writer-director Christine Swanson is set to hit select AMC Theatres and Malco Theatres locations on Nov. 15, with those cinema chains handling the distribution. Albany Road centers on Celeste (Goldsberry), who is preparing for an important work trip and is dismayed that she has to share a car with her ex-fiancé’s mother, Paula (Whitfield). “Maybe three or four more lead roles,” says Nicolas Cage as he clarifies his eventual plan to quit movies: more on his words this way.
It was late last year when Nicolas Cage announced that he only had “three or four movies left in him”, signalling that his time making films (which stretches all the way back to a brief appearance in 1982’s Fast Times At Ridgemont High) was almost over.
As we reported here, Cage finally got around to watching Breaking Bad and was so taken with Bryan Cranston’s lead role in that series that his head was alive to the possibility of acting in other media beyond cinema.
“I feel I’ve pretty much said what I’ve had to say with cinema,” said Cage at the time. “And I’d like to leave on a high note and say, ‘Adios.’ I think I have to do...

Nicolas Cage's Arcadian earns 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, his second Fresh score in a row. Cage's career has seen long stretches of Rotten scores since 2000, but his 2020s movies are trending positively. With upcoming films like Longlegs and Lords of War, Cage may continue his Fresh streak.

Nicolas Cage is back and this time he’s taking us into a grim, post-apocalyptic world in ‘Arcadian’. The movie’s trailer just dropped and it’s everything you’d expect from a thriller set after society’s collapse. Cage, playing Paul, is a dad trying to keep his two sons safe in a world where danger lurks as soon as the sun sets.
The story is set in a near future where life as we know it has crumbled. Paul, along with his sons Joseph, played by Jaeden Martell, and Thomas, played by Maxwell Jenkins, are facing a world filled with night-time terrors. These mysterious creatures come out at night, and according to the eerie trailer, they might be here because of the environmental mess we’ve made. Paul’s voice in the trailer hints at this, saying that these creatures might see humans as the problem, here to ‘cleanse’ the Earth.

Nicolas Cage teased in a recent interview with Uproxx that he is seriously considering retiring from film acting. The Oscar winner has appeared in well over 100 movies over the course of his career and thinks he has “pretty much said what I’ve had to say with cinema.” He noted he has signed offers already to make some more movies (“I have other contracts that I have to fulfill”), but those might be the end of Cage on the big screen. He doesn’t plan to give up acting entirely, but a transition into theater and/or television sounds likely.

One of Hollywood’s most prolific actors is eyeing retirement: Nicholas Cage, who’s getting ready to turn 60 years old, says he’s almost finished acting in movies.
“I may have three or four more movies left in me,” the Dream Scenario actor told Vanity Fair. “I do feel I’ve said what I’ve had to say with cinema. I think I took film performance as far as I could … I do want to get much more severe and stringent in my selection process … I want to say bye on a high note.”
Cage added that his father died at 75 and calculates he may have only 15 years left (“hopefully more”). “What do I want to do with those 15 years, using my father as the model?” the married father of three asked. “It occurred very clearly to me that I want to spend time with my family … I’m starting to cement my plan.

It’s an interesting month ahead on Hulu, as the streamer rolls out some of the series it’s been keeping in its back pocket for the holiday season.
On December 15, the first season of Such Brave Girls will arrive. The sitcom follows a dysfunctional family – and we mean dysfunctional! – that includes real-life sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson. British comedian Sadler has previously written for The News Quiz, Hypothetical, and Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, but this is her first big TV project. “Everything we joke about in the show is from a place of lived experience,” she told Funny Women. “I wish I could say this is a heart-warming show about overcoming trauma, but that would be a lie. It’s about three toxic, damaged egomaniacs manipulating the world and each other for their own personal gain, vengeance and glory…just like in Little Women.” Sounds good!
Later in the month,...

Despite the challenges faced by the film industry, many actors starred in multiple movies in 2023, showcasing their versatility and talent. Big hits like "Air" and "Oppenheimer" featured ensemble period films, and Matt Damon effortlessly embodied the traits of different eras. Willem Dafoe, Robert De Niro, and Tilda Swinton were among the actors who appeared in numerous films in 2023, delivering memorable performances in a variety of genres.
Despite the fact that the film industry experienced a lot of turbulence this past year, there were many actors who starred in multiple movies in 2023. After recovering from the effects that the Covid-19 pandemic had on Hollywood, 2023 proved to be a banner year, with huge blockbusters like Barbie and Oppenheimer, as well as smaller dramas and genre films by artistic visionaries, like Ari Aster's Beau is Afraid and Wes Anderson's Asteroid City. Nicolas Cage's latest film, Dream Scenario, has the potential to be one of the best titles in the actor's career, with a score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes so far. Cage's previous movies this year received mixed reviews, but Dream Scenario may save his year with its critical success. The film follows the story of a family man who becomes famous when he starts appearing in other people's dreams, but things take a dark turn, making fame a burden.
Nicolas Cage stars in Dream Scenario, Kristoffer Borgli's latest film, and it looks like it could become one of the best titles in the ever-popular actor's career.

Nicolas Cage's new movie Dream Scenario receives one of the highest Rotten Tomatoes scores of his career, currently standing at 90% on 105 reviews. The film showcases Cage's strong performance, whimsical premise, and comedic quality, reminiscent of his acclaimed film Adaptation. Dream Scenario saves Cage's otherwise lackluster 2023, outperforming his other films of the year by a wide margin and potentially ranking among his best work.
Nicolas Cage’s new movie Dream Scenario lands one of the highest Rotten Tomatoes scores of the actor’s 42-year career. The prolific Cage has already enjoyed an eclectic 2023, starring in the somber Western The Old Way, the outrageous horror-comedy Renfield, the pulse-pounding thriller Sympathy for the Devil and the wacky action movie The Retirement Plan. In his fifth film of the year, the star plays a biology professor who begins mysteriously appearing in the dreams of other people, becoming an unlikely celebrity as a result of the bizarre phenomenon.

What’s the top film on VOD this week? Actually, there are three different #1s on iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu. And what makes it weirder is those films don’t rank as high as #2 anywhere they don’t top.
“Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning: Part One” (Paramount), “The Equalizer 3” (Sony), and “The Exorcist: Believer” (Universal), all $19.99 are #1 at iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu respectively. To confuse things even more, three other different films rank #2 — “Barbie” (Warner Bros.), “Saw X” (Lionsgate), and “Talk to Me” (A24). That’s six different titles total ranking in the top two of the three lists. That’s unprecedented.
It’s the third week out for “Mission,” and though it clearly is getting revenue, it is not nearly the dominant force it might have been had it been released 60, not 90, days after hitting theaters. As always, without actual numbers but only rankings to analyze,...

In its second week available on PVOD (after an unusual 90-day window), “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” (Paramount) finds itself challenged for #1 on the current VOD charts. “Saw X” (Lionsgate) — like “Mission: Impossible,” available at $19.99; though unlike Tom Cruise’s film, it costs more to buy) — released just last Friday leads Vudu’s revenue-based top 10. “Mission: Impossible” remains #1 at transaction-ranking iTunes and Google Play for a second week.
Elsewhere, “No Hard Feelings” (Sony), still on both iTunes and Google Play’s top 10, debuted at #1 on Netflix. The R-rated comedy, starring and co-produced by Jennifer Lawrence, continues to have strong action, significantly more than its $50 million domestic gross would have suggested.

With the persona of a profane biker that had no problem being offensive to his crowd, comic Andrew Dice Clay has made a name for himself since the late 1980s on comedy stages all across the United States by borrowing and combining mannerisms from such icons as Sylvester Stallone and Elvis Presley. The Retirement Plan features an intense combat scene between Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman, with the challenges of the heat and humidity impacting Perlman's performance. Director Tim Brown was concerned about maintaining continuity and making sure the audience couldn't tell when stunt doubles were used in certain scenes. The Retirement Plan delves into the hidden past of Cage's character, Matt, and showcases a different side of the actor rarely seen before. Audiences can expect a refreshing and captivating cinematic experience.
As film enthusiasts flood the theaters for the latest action-comedy, The Retirement Plan, a fresh tale unfolds. We witness Nicolas Cage transitioning into an action hero, perhaps a tad mature for the dynamism the role demands. The film's pinnacle, however, remains the fierce combat between Cage and a character enacted by Ron Perlman.

'The Retirement Plan' director Tim Brown took inspiration from the 'John Wick' franchise. The new movie stars Nicolas Cage as a retired grandfather who longer spends his time killing people for money and Brown says that some of the movie's concepts were inspired by the Keanu Reeves-led series.Speaking to Collider, Tim said: "The only thing I knew at the beginning was, what if John Wick became a beach bum and an alcoholic, and just did nothing for 40 years? When he's 70, could he have any ability at all? What would that ability be? That was the premise that I started with, and then it evolved."So, halfway through the movie, I could not have told you how it was gonna end, remotely. A lot of the people that I've been talking to say the film's unpredictable because I'm not following that classic action genre beat sheet.

[Editor's note: The following contains some spoilers for The Retirement Plan.]From writer/director Tim Brown, the action comedy The Retirement Plan sees Matt’s (Nicolas Cage) quiet life in the Cayman Islands interrupted when his estranged daughter (Ashley Greene) and granddaughter (Thalia Campbell) need his help to survive a very dangerous situation. In the past, director Tim Brown made it his prerogative to dive right into the deep end of various genres. Take his 2017 creature feature horror film, Devil in the Dark, compared to his 2021 family movie, Buckley’s Chance, which followed a boy and his dog in the Australian outback. Almost as if trying to find a comfortable sweet spot between the two, Brown has now landed in the cinematic space of a violent yet fuzzy action-comedy production that centers around criminal organizations and grandfathers with secret pasts.
Filmed prominently in the Cayman Islands, The Retirement Plan hosts a surprisingly notable entourage of names like Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, Ernie Hudson, Jackie Earle Haley, Lynn Whitfield, Ashley Greene, Joel David Moore, and the debuting Thalia Campbell. In between the overly cooked, self-aware script and some scenes that just don’t deliver the intensity when it would be the most palpable for the audience,...

The Retirement Plan filmmaker Tim Brown makes his own luck.
Instead of waiting for the phone to ring, the Canadian writer-director has created his own opportunities to helm his written material, and The Retirement Plan, Brown’s new action-comedy starring Nicolas Cage, is the fifth time he’s done just that. Brown already had an usual path to the director’s chair, as he started out on the distribution side of the industry.
The Retirement Plan, which is now playing in theaters, began with Brown imagining John Wick as a 70-year-old former assassin who now passes his time as an island-based beach bum. He eventually sent a script to Cage, and the veteran actor was intrigued by the idea of being aged up by a decade in order to portray the added dimension of an estranged grandfather.
