Mubi has unveiled their lineup for next month’s streaming offerings, featuring a selection of notable new releases, including Kazik Radwanski’s Matt & Mara, Lisandro Alonso’s Eureka, Monica Sorelle’s Mountains, Marija Kavtardzé’s Slow, Monia Chokri’s The Nature of Love, and more. Additional highlights include films by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Brady Corbet, Peter Weir, and more.
Recently naming Matt and Mara one of the best films of 2024, Blake Simons said, “Kazik Radwanski’s misty-eyed, mostly improvised tale of friends-not-quite-lovers excels at capturing intricacies of the unspoken. There’s a warming tenderness and quiet sadness to Deragh Campbell and Matt Johnson’s restrained interactions. In the final moments, Mara places a crumpled receipt inside a book and returns it to its shelf. Sometimes that’s what a good film is: a leaf through our feelings. Matt and Mara is there on the shelf now, for when we feel like opening that book again.

Slow West (2015) was never a typical Western movie. Though it contained the same genre beats, it set itself apart with its cast members, even as they followed the general tropes that have made the genre so popular and widespread. The concept of exploring the Wild West, facing off against enemies around every corner, and surviving in an inhospitable environment is downright fascinating. Yet, so far away from the Golden Age of Westerns, there is an entire swathe of Western movies that never managed to distinguish themselves in the great Western canon.
In an expansive collection of Western movies, it can be difficult to stand out against the true greats. It is almost impossible to surpass Dances With Wolves (1991), Red River (1948), or Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). Luckily, there are still ways that modern Westerns can stand out. A great villain, alone, can set a movie apart from its contemporaries.

When it comes to horror movies, we’ve all wondered how our favorite TV characters would fare if they found themselves face-to-face with some of cinema’s most terrifying monsters.
Would they have the skills, guts, or sheer luck to survive, or would they meet a grisly end before the credits roll?
From the detectives of NCIS to the quirky residents of Only Murders in the Building — and yes, even Morgan from High Potential — this list puts some of the most iconic TV characters in a horror movie scenario.
(David Bukach/Disney)
So, who would survive, and who’s destined for a final scream? Let’s find out which TV characters would live to tell the tale — and which ones wouldn’t stand a chance.

When it first hit FX, practically everyone was under the impression that The Old Man was going to be a one-and-done prestige limited series. By the end of those first seven episodes, however, it had become clear that The Old Man was packing enough espionage chills and thrills to sustain at least one more season, if not a number of them. Whether it will eventually live up to the sterling reputation of some of the best CIA and spy-based television series remains to be seen.
Over the past few years, the espionage genre has seen an influx of memorable series, all of which deal with the CIA, FBI, MI5, assassins, terrorists, double-crosses, triple-crosses, and everything else in between in some combination or form. There are plenty of great series to watch next once fans finish Season 2 of The Old Man.

A recent death hasn’t just impacted the characters on The Young and the Restless. Even the actors who bring these characters to life can feel the impact as they process their characters. One actor on the show, Lily Brooks O’Briant, has talked about what it’s like getting into her character’s head as she just lost a loved one.
Lucy Recently Lost Her Mother-Figure On The Show
The character of Heather Stevens was previously killed off during an encounter with Sharon Newman. The latter character had found herself in a trance only to find Heather lying next to broken glass.
Actress Lily Brooks O’Briant joined the cast of The Young and the Restless as the character of Lucy Romalotti. On the series, Heather acted as a mother-figure to Lucy, meaning her death would certainly leave an impact on the character.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Slow Horses Season 4 Episode 5 “Grave Danger.”] Slow Horse in danger! The penultimate episode of Slow Horses Season 4 ends with River in MI5’s custody—specifically Emma Flyte’s (Ruth Bradley)—only for mercenary Patrice (Tom Wozniczka), who works for Frank Harkness (Hugo Weaving), to attack, leaving agents dead, Emma down, and take River (Jack Lowden) with him. How will MI5, specifically First Desk Claude Whelan, react? TV Insider talked to James Callis about that, his character’s dynamic with Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas), who’s clearly much more comfortable in charge, and more. The fifth episode ends with River being taken at the end of the episode. What can you preview about how Claude deals with that in the finale? James Callis: Claude always believes that he is doing the right thing, and one might say thus the world is destroyed by people with good intentions. And to be fair,...

Exclusive: Harlan Coben and Nicola Shindler have flagged a “shared vision” and “hybrid British-American sensibilities” as leading to the success of Fool Me Once, Netflix’s most-watched show in the first half of this year.
The showrunner-producer pair chatted to Deadline in advance of the latest data dump, which saw their fourth Netflix UK Coben adaptation top the charts with more than 100 million views in the first half of this year. And it’s been a good day for the Brits, with Bridgerton, Baby Reindeer and The Gentlemen backing up Fool Me Once in the top four and One Day also making the top 10. Ted Sarandos was in London earlier this week trumpeting the Brits’ success.
With the show having launched nearly a year ago, Coben cited a “shared vision” between himself, Shindler, writer Danny Brocklehurst, producer Richard Fee and Netflix as contributing to its runaway success.

Slow Horses season 4, episode 3, "Penny for Your Thoughts," finally reveals a bit more of the mystery plaguing River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), one of Slough House's MI5 agents, and his grandfather, retired MI5 agent David (Jonathan Pryce). Previously, Slow Horses confirmed what happened to River. After David killed his grandson's look-alike and his would-be assassin, River used the dead body to his advantage. Planting his ID at the scene and disfiguring the intruder's face, River chased his only lead to Lavande, France. Thankfully, Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) doubled down on River's ruse, allowing him more time.
As seen in Slow Horses season 4, episode 2, River's investigation led him to a mysterious compound on the edge of the small town of Lavande. Inside, the massive (and abandoned) house was littered with baby prams and toys as well as weaponry and books about war. A mysterious man (Hugo Weaving) attacked River, though a third...

When it comes to TV’s bold and brazen leading ladies, these women are definitely not here to play by the rules!
They break boundaries, challenge authority, and do it all with a mix of style, wit, and fierce independence.
Whether they’re power-hungry department heads, queens of high society, tough-as-nails cops, or even nuns, they don’t just embrace risk — they run toward it, unapologetically standing their ground every time.
(Robert Voets/CBS)
What makes them so thrilling? It’s their fearless attitude, razor-sharp tongues, and the way they totally own the screen with unwavering confidence.
Whether they’re dropping one-liners, scheming up something big, or just being their bold selves, these leading ladies define what it means to be unapologetically fierce, even if they’re low-key about it!

Slow Horses season 4 on Apple TV+ has viewers wondering if Slough House is a real MI5 branch. The British spy thriller is based on the bestselling Slough House series of novels by Mick Herron. Like the source material, the series centers on Slough House the administrative purgatory for MI5 agents who've made career-ending missteps. Although these "slow horses" are relegated to drudgery, they get involved in high-profile cases, thanks in large part to the rude-yet-incisive veteran MI5 agent Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), who leads Slough House's team of well-meaning misfits.
Although the ensemble is led by Lamb, Slow Horses' other key characters include River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), an MI5 agent who lands in Slough House during season 1 after making a very public mistake, and Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas), the Deputy Director General of MI5 and head of operations who's been gunning for MI5's designated "First Desk" since the show's start.

“Cuffs won’t be necessary,” Jackson Lamb tells the new Head ‘Dog’ in the first trailer for Slow Horses season four. She slaps a pair on him anyway with the retort that she’d rather not take any chances with a man “who looks like he gropes people on buses.” Affecting sensitivity, Lamb drily jokes that after such a personal insult, he might have to call Hr.
Slow Horses is back, baby.
Well, almost back. The fourth season starts streaming on Apple TV+ with a double-bill on Wednesday September 4, followed by a new episode weekly until the finale arrives on October 2.
Lamb’s season four sparring partner is Emma Flyte, the new head of MI5 internal affairs, replacing former tactical unit boss Duffy. He went the way of so many of this show’s characters after the events of last season, and now Ruth Bradley’s unflappable Flyte is on...

Three years after winning the Orizzonti Award for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival with “Pilgrims,” Lithuanian filmmaker Laurynas Bareiša brings his sophomore feature “Drowning Dry” to the main competition at the Locarno Film Festival, taking place over August 7-17. Dissecting a tragedy that radically changes the lives of two intertwined families, the film is produced by Klementina Remeikaite’s Afterschool and co-produced by Matiss Kaza’s Trickster Pictures.
The film’s trailer has been shared in exclusivity with Variety in the build-up to the Festival.
“Something similar to what happens in the film happened to me and I kept remembering it in this incomplete way,” Bareiša told Variety of the film’s non-linear structure. “I had no grasp on the exact memory, and I wanted to explore how these moments happen so very fast but also get stuck in your mind, changing through time. When you see something for the first time,...

Starz released the teaser today for the deviously twisted coming-of-age story Sweetpea, which will premiere this October. Ella Purnell stars as Rhiannon, a quiet wallflower who develops a vengeful and intoxicatingly liberating taste for murder.
Ella Purnell, who also serves as executive producer, said, “I truly cannot wait for the world to meet Sweetpea! I’ve loved exploring this incredibly complex character, as well as working alongside our dynamic cast and powerhouses Ella Jones, Kristie Swain, and Patrick Walters.”
The actress continued: “This has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career so far. At its core, the series is about a woman finally finding her voice, told through a uniquely dark and comedic lens. I hope audiences have as much fun going on Rhiannon Lewis’ wild, coming-of-rage journey as we did bringing it to life.”
