After the cancellation of “9-1-1: Lone Star” at Fox, there’s a new series coming to Ryan Murphy’s emergency responder franchise: “9-1-1: Nashville,” set to premiere on ABC during the 2025-2026 season.
The news follows Variety‘s October report that a new “9-1-1” spinoff was in the works.
Though plot and casting details are yet to be shared, it can be assumed that the new “9-1-1” spinoff, like the flagship series and “Lone Star, will follow the work and personal lives of a team of first responders, this time in Tennessee.
“9-1-1” was created by Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear and premiered on Fox in 2018 before moving to ABC for its seventh season in 2024. Currently on its eighth season, the series is set in Los Angeles and stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Guzman, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi and Gavin McHugh.

Ryan Murphy has heard the questions about the naming conventions of his various FX series, but he doesn’t see the validity in them.
The TV mogul tells Deadline that he would “strongly disagree” with suggestions that Grotesquerie should have been under the American Horror Story banner, or that Aaron Hernandez’s story would’ve been better suited as a new installment of American Crime Story rather than the first in a new anthology series, American Sports Story.
“Grotesquerie has nothing in common with American Horror Story. It just does not. I think it’s the difference between doing Don’t Look Now and Halloween would could never have fit into that show. It was never considered for that. It’s a much different animal,” he said of the new horror series starring Niecy Nash, which revealed a huge turn in the story that Murphy and FX Chief John Landgraf also discussed with Deadline.

Since The Watcher made its debut on Netflix in October 2022 and renewed for a second season one month later, fans of the mystery thriller series have been waiting for updates on season 2. Well, co-creator Ryan Murphy finally gave us the update we have been waiting for, but it's a little bit unclear. Actually, no, it's extremely unclear and not super promising.
Rather than sharing when The Watcher season 2 will begin filming or how far along in the writing process they are or anything hinting at any actual content, the busy television producer seems to have distanced himself from the Netflix series and focused more on the Monster anthology series and the handful of new shows he's creating under his current deal with Disney.

Over the course of 10 days, Ryan Murphy released four new shows — “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” and “Grotesquerie” at FX, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” at Netflix and “Doctor Odyssey” at ABC — and premiered new seasons of returning hits “9-1-1: Lone Star” at Fox and “9-1-1” at ABC.
“Six shows in a month is a lot, but everybody in my company worked really, really hard, and miraculously, they all worked,” Murphy told Variety during a conversation on Oct. 1. “They all launched at No. 1 and individually, they’re all doing really, really well.”
Everything coming out at once “wasn’t really planned that way,” Murphy said, but happened as part of his new deal at Disney, which he’s a year and a half into.

Ryan Murphy doesn’t do things by half.
This is a man who launched and brought back six television shows over the last two weeks including ABC’s Joshua Jackson-fronted Doctor Odyssey, FX’s Grotesquerie featuring Niecy Nash and Travis Kelce, and Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story; has another launching later this month in FX’s American Horror Stories; and is heading straight into a run that includes All’s Fair, starring the likes of Kim Kardashian and Glenn Close, reuniting with Evan Peters in FX sci-fi series The Beauty and the first iteration of American Love Story about John F. The data shows that such an “intense” workload is paying off.
Netflix revealed earlier Tuesday that Monsters: The Lyle & Erik Menendez Story scored 19.5 million views in its first full week on the service, where it is No. 1, and totaling nearly 32M views since it launched.

The minute-and-a-half look at the upcoming installment, premiering Oct. 15 as part of Hulu’s Halloween lineup, teases new takes on classic horror tropes such as “don’t look under the bed,” a scary figure appearing in the mirror and a woman appearing in an empty parking lot late at night.

Originally, the Aaron Hernandez season of “American Sports Story” was envisioned to be another installment of “American Crime Story.” That changed when the team behind it started talking about launching a sports-centric spinoff to the FX franchise. Showrunner and executive producer Stu Zicherman immediately knew the Hernandez case would be the perfect story for this new saga.
“This story some people will think of as a sports story. I think it’s an American story, because it speaks to big themes about violence, toxic masculinity, sexuality, how we extol our athletes and put them on a pedestal and then, when they do something terrible, we just throw them out,” Zicherman told TheWrap.
Whether it be “American Horror Story,” “American Crime Story,” “American Sports Story” or the upcoming “American Love Story,” a through-line of these series is that their themes and ideas transcend their central story to reflect “the larger fabric of American culture,...

Ryan Murphy’s latest iteration of the “American Story” anthology series is here. This time the executive producer will divulge the “American Sports Story” of NFL star Aaron Hernandez, his rise and fall from grace during his tenure on the New England Patriots.
The FX series is based on the podcast “Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.” from The Boston Globe and Wondery, released in 2018. From the mind of Murphy, this limited series will detail Hernandez’s early life until his final days in a Massachusetts maximum correctional facility.
“American Sports Story” is just one expansion of Murphy’s “American Story” anthology franchise. Murphy has upcoming seasons of the franchise currently in production, including “American Love Story,” following the relationship between John F. FX’s latest installment in Ryan Murphy’s American Story franchise, American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, is ready to hit TV screens. The 10-episode limited series follows the real life rise and fall of disgraced former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez.
The show, which stars Josh Andrés Rivera as Hernandez, is based on The Boston Globe and Wondery podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. The podcast dug into Hernandez’s life and career, along with his arrest, eventual conviction for murder and his death by suicide inside a Massachusetts maximum security prison.
In June 2013, authorities discovered the body of semi professional football player Odin Lloyd, who was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, about a mile away from the then-football player’s home. Just nine days later, Hernandez was arrested on a murder charge in connection with Lloyd’s death at his North Attleborough, Mass.

We already have American Horror Story, American Crime Story, and American Horror Stories. Ryan Murphy’s insanely popular American franchise will also soon add American Sports Story, set to premiere on Sept. 17. But if you thought that was too much to keep up with, you may have forgotten about American Love Story, I know I did!
Love Story and Sports Story were given the green light at the same time, which was three years ago. So surely, since Sports Story is coming out soon, Love Story will follow, right? Sadly, no. Don’t worry, American Love Story is still very much happening, but I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for it.
In a recent report from TV Line, it was shared that Love Story “is still a thing.” Now, I’m not sure what this means. Is it in the works? If so, are we talking about writing being done?...

FX’s John Landgraf is not sure the media ecosystem supports television shows that run beyond just a few seasons.
“I think our attention spans have declined radically and I think our patience with things that are a little demanding have gone down,” Landgraf said during his annual executive session at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “It’s something I’m really worried about in the media ecosystem created by the internet.”
The remarks came after Landgraf gave his annual update on the number of scripted series on television, with his data showing that Peak TV has in fact peaked. The total number of scripted shows declined 14% between 2022 and 2023, dropping from 600 to 516.
“We’ve radically increased the cost of making television in season one,” he said. “We brought a lot of wonderful talent into television, but there’s been a spiraling and escalating cost. That’s part of...

Josh Andrés Hernandez is preparing to dig into the mind of Aaron Hernandez for his upcoming role in Ryan Murphy’s American Sports Story.
The actor spoke with Deadline about preparing to portray the troubled former Patriots tight end at Monday’s Los Angeles premiere of the upcoming Hunger Games prequel, Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
“It’s a story with a lot of factors, as I’m sure everybody with familiarity towards it knows. There’s the mental health factor, the crime factor, the money, the fame, all of these things,” he said. “As an actor, it’s kind of like it’s a dream to have something so, so juicy to dive into it.”
In addition to researching Hernandez and his history, Rivera is also working on bulking up to play the part of an offensive lineman.
“They’re trying to get me as big as I can be.

These are no new developments that happened during the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike; both castings were done in early 2023 but never confirmed by FX. Deadline reached out to the network and producing studio 20th Television about both in January-early February; the deals are believed to have closed at around that time or soon thereafter.

Days after FX set the premiere date for “American Horror Story: Delicate,” the network has revealed that “American Horror Stories” Season 3 will premiere on October 26. The season will air four episodes as part of a “Huluween” event.
This special Halloween premiere marks a first for the series. In the past, the horror anthology has aired new episodes weekly, save for its two-episode premiere in Season 1. As in past seasons, new episodes will debut exclusively on Hulu.
The season stands as one of the last series that writer, producer and director Manny Coto worked on prior to his death in July.

As WGA pickets continue to mobilize at the remaining TV shows in both New York and Los Angeles, at least one Ryan Murphy-produced show was the focus of striking writers’ efforts on Wednesday: “American Horror Story: Delicate.” The show is currently shooting on 52nd street in Manhattan, according to several WGA East member Twitter feeds — including one person who posted video of star Kim Kardashian entering the production.

File this under the worst-kept secret in Hollywood. To the surprise of absolutely no one, uberproducer Ryan Murphy is racing back to his old stomping grounds, and in the process of re-joining longtime collaborator Dana Walden under a new overall deal at Disney.
The decision to reunite with Walden — now the co-chairman of Disney Entertainment — comes five years after Murphy ankled 20th Century Fox TV for a rich deal at Netflix that was reportedly valued at the time at between $250 million-$300 million. That deal came right before Disney acquired 20th Century Fox and Walden, who at the time was Fox Television Group chairman-ceo. There had been speculation that Murphy and Walden might join forces as partners in their own production venture, before Murphy moved to Netflix and Walden shifted over to Disney.

Super-producer Ryan Murphy is set to make Disney his new home as his five-year, $300 million Netflix deal comes to a close.
According to reports, Murphy has been negotiating his new deal for the past year, and most of the details were finished before the WGA strike started in May.
Once dubbed “TV’s First $300 Million Man,” Murphy is responsible for creating hits such as “Dahmer: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and “The Watcher” for the streaming service.
Murphy signed the five-year exclusive development deal with Netflix in 2018. To date this partnership has produced two miniseries (“Hollywood” and “Hanson”), three ongoing dramas, three movies, three documentaries and one docuseries (“The Andy Warhol Diaries”). “Ratched” and “The Watcher” have been renewed through Season 2,while the “Monster” anthology series has been renewed through three installments. Ryan Murphy has another anthology after Netflix ordered two additional installments of his Monster franchise following the success of Dahmer.
The streamer has also ordered a second season of his drama series The Watcher.
Neither move is a surprise given the ratings success of both shows, particularly the outsized ratings of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which is on course to reach 1B hours viewed in the coming weeks.
Both Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and The Watcher come from American Horror Story co-creator Murphy and Glee co-creator Ian Brennan.
Netflix didn’t disclose what the two additional installments of the Monster anthology franchise will cover but said that they will “tell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society”.

The 11th season of Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story” will premiere this fall on FX.
FX chairman John Landgraf revealed the news during his executive Q&a session at the cable channel’s virtual presentation at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour Tuesday.
The debut date announcement marks the first news of “AHS” Season 11, an installment fans have been clamoring for info about since Season 10, “American Horror Story: Double Feature,” concluded in October 2021. That 10th season was split into two stories, “Red Tide” and “Death Valley.”
Landgraf gave no specific premiere date for “American Horror Story” Season 11 beyond “fall,” though the fact a time frame has been given at all means there’s a good chance Murphy will be sharing the title, theme and cast for the upcoming season in the coming months.
