From his work on promising indie films like The Seven Faces of Jane to music videos for Arcade Fire, Kendrick Lamar, and more, producer Jason Baum clearly has a finger on the pulse of pop culture and creative innovation. The Hawaiian-born producer has worked on a number of Emmy- and Grammy-award-winning projects, and netted his first Grammy win for his work on Kendrick Lamar's music video for "Humble". Baum is in the running again in 2023, as he produced Lamar's "The Heart Part 5" music video, which will be competing against Adele's "Easy on Me", BTS' "Yet to Come", Doja Cat's "Woman", Harry Styles' "As It Was", and Taylor Swift's All Too Well - The Short Film.
Baum appears particularly drawn to projects designed to push their respective mediums forward. He produced two videos for Beyonce's The Lion King companion Black Is King and the augmented reality-enabled short film...

“It’s Only Life After All,” a documentary about the folk-rock duo Indigo Girls, is for fans only. For those who are not fans, and for those who only dimly remember their initial albums in the late 1980s and early 1990s, this Sundance Film Festival Opening Night entry is a rambling, unrevealing look at their lives and careers that director Alexandria Bombach allows to run over two hours without focusing her material.

During the extensive interviews with them in this movie, a hazy picture emerges of Ray as the driving force of their act, or the one with the most ambition, and Saliers as the more elusive or distant of the two. Anna Kendrick might be best known for her comedic and musical roles, but with her latest feature, Alice, Darling, the Oscar-nominated performer reminds viewers she has some seriously impressive dramatic chops. Directed by Mary Nighy, the new film is an intimate, unsettling examination of a woman and the effect her increasingly disturbing relationship has on her life. Considering the plot, it would've been easy for Nighy and screenwriter Alanna Francis to take a more heavy-handed, frightening approach. Luckily, though, Alice, Darling is a respectful and piercing character study that also serves as an excellent showcase for Kendrick's talents.
On the surface, Alice (Kendrick) has it all: A solid job, two best friends to gab with at wine bars, and a sexy, attentive boyfriend, Simon (Charlie Carrick). However, from the way Alice carefully rehearses what she's going to say to Simon to her tendency to compulsively pull her hair out, it...

“Everyone struggles to find a version of themselves that they like,” so says Jane, as played by Gillian Jacobs, in the new, spellbinding exquisite-corpse film “The Seven Faces of Jane.” She’s talking to a young teenage girl who’s run away on her quinceañera, but she’s talking to herself too.
Jane has something of an identity crisis, or rather, one that’s been created for her. A single mother with time to spare while her daughter is away at camp, Jane sets off on an adventure, or several of them, actually. What follows are seven different stories by different directors, none of whom know what the others are doing.
This form is known as an “exquisite corpse,” as is defined at the start of the film, which functions almost like a game of Telephone. The directors in question, curated by Roman Coppola, are Jacobs herself, Gia Coppola, Boma Iluma,...

Avan Jogia has had a very interesting career. The life of a Nickelodeon kid can send one down many paths, some less fruitful than others. Jogia was that rare child actor who successfully transitioned into “adult” work without a loud announcement of his maturing. His acting career has had him dabble in numerous genres and stories, showing off his natural charisma and talent. In between acting, Jogia has kept busy producing music with his brother and their band Saint Ivory, and writing a book. Now, he has ventured into directing feature films, and his directorial feature debut is the stunning neo-noir and comic book-inspired Door Mouse.
Door Mouse tells the story of Mouse (Hayley Law), a comic book writer/artist who works at a burlesque bar run by Mama (Famke Janssen). A friend and fellow burlesque dancer, Doe Eyes (Nhi Do), doesn’t show up for work one night, which...

The Seven Faces of Jane is the kind of film that has to start out with an explanation. Before the film begins, we are told that this film is a blind collaboration between multiple filmmakers, an exquisite corpse structure where each new team continues the story of Jane, played by Gillian Jacobs. Each filmmaker had no idea what the filmmakers before or after them were doing with this character, with the exception that each story would focus on Jane. The Seven Faces of Jane is an intriguing concept, a curious way of telling a story, and ultimately, a flawed idea that shows through example why this isn’t a type of story we’ve seen before.

A film originating from the vision of 8 talented directors, The Seven Faces of Jane is an anthology film consisting of 8 short films that explore the journey of a titular character, Jane, played by Gillian Jacobs. The directors each provide their unique vision of this character in diverse settings to demonstrate the varied perceptions of Jane as she undergoes a trial of weird, beautiful, and painful adventures. There was great risk involving the success of the project due to each filmmaker adopting a completely different style and tone from the other. However, it is both the beauty and peril of such a one-of-a-kind project. This experimental drama switches between directors at random, each unaware of the previous director's work, using the "exquisite corpse" game concept.

Seven directors come together to tell one woman’s story, an experimental tale of a woman driving around Los Angeles. Each vignette was directed in secret, with each director unaware of what would come before or after their film segment. The Seven Faces of Jane is therefore an ambitious undertaking, but it isn't worth taking on as an audience member.
Gillian Jacobs stars and directs in The Seven Faces of Jane. The story follows the titular Jane as she drops off her daughter at a sleep-away camp and then drives off into what is essentially a mini odyssey, where she experiences many obstacles and connections. Contributing to this creative endeavor, known as Exquisite Corpse, are directors Julian Acosta, Xan Cassavetes, Gia Coppola, Ryan Heffington, Boma Iluma, Ken Jeong, Alex Takacs, and of course, Jacobs herself, who directed the opening and closing segments of the film.

The Seven Faces of Jane is a film by eight different directors. That would be odd enough, but even further, each director created their segment of the film with little idea of what the others were working on. The style of art creation, where each piece is created separately and then assembled at the end is often referred to as an "exquisite corpse". Starring and partially directed by Gillian Jacobs, The Seven Faces of Jane promises to be a fascinating viewing experience. Now without further ado, here's everything you need to know about the film.

We are hardly ever the same person on a day-to-day basis. Sure, we might have the same body or the same identity, but the events of our lives mold and shape us in a multitude of ways, and we could see the world a whole different way over the course of 24 or 48 hours. As such, cinema is an expressive medium, but there hasn't been a film quite like The Seven Faces of Jane, a daring exquisite corpse project that sees eight different filmmakers exploring the journey of our titular character, a wandering soul who finds herself warped throughout the course of surreal, life-altering events. To represent such a modifying life, Jane's story is told through the lens of a variety of storytellers — all of whom have a different vision for what could or should become of this woman. As this first trailer shows, it results in a dazzling experience.
