Hulu’s Prison Break reboot, which got a pilot order three months ago, is really starting to take shape — with the casting of another four main roles.
Mayans Mc showrunner Elgin James is writing this new Prison Break, and will executive-produce alongside Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring and the original series’ executive producers Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz. Specific plot details have yet to be disclosed, but the project will tell a new story set in the same universe as the original series.

Two months after The Sex Lives of College Girls ended its third season, Max has canceled the raunchy comedy series that centers around four roommates at Essex College in Vermont. Per Deadline, the Warner Bros. series, co-created by and executive produced by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, is looking for a new home.
Warner Bros., the producing studio behind The Sex Lives of College Girls,is reportedly seeking a way to take the show to a fourth season, possibly with Netflix, as Kaling has a long relationship with the streamer. However, the move may be a long shot. Deadline stated that a rep for Warner Bros. Television declined to comment on the matter.

The Sex Lives of College Girls is shuttering its school doors at Max after three seasons on the streamer. Max will not be producing additional episodes of the coming of age drama, co-created and produced by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble.
Despite the show’s cancellation on Max, announced Tuesday, Warner Bros. Television is looking to keep the show alive on neighboring streamers. Kaling, for example, has a working relationship with Netflix. She co-created the Kate Hudson-starring series Running Point, released on Netflix last month, and the popular drama Never Have I Ever.

The Sex Lives Of College Girls Cancelled After Season 3 On Max, Show Will Attempt To Find A New Home
The Sex Lives of College Girls has been canceled after three seasons on Max, but the show will attempt to find a new home. Co-created by Mindy Kaling, the dramedy series follows four first-year roommates at the fictional Essex College in Vermont, focusing specifically on their sexually active lifestyles as they navigate the complexities of early adulthood. The Sex Lives of College Girls' cast includes Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Reneé Rapp, Alyah Chanelle Scott, Gavin Leatherwood, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, and many more.
Now, the show has come to an end, at least for now. According to Deadline, The Sex Lives of College Girls has officially been canceled at Max after three seasons, but Warner Bros. Television has reportedly been exploring options to keep the show alive, with Netflix being a possible landing spot, but is considered a long shot due to the complexities of such a move. New casting information has just been revealed for the Prison Break offshoot that's in the works at Hulu. The project has a pilot that's currently being put into development, though the reboot hasn't yet been officially ordered to series.
Per Variety, the new Prison Break pilot has cast Emily Browning (American Gods), Lukas Gage (Dead Boy Detectives), and Drake Rodger (Landman) in major roles. While the show is set in the same universe as the original Prison Break, it was expected that it would follow a new cast of characters, and these additions mark the first names to be attached to the project. It's not yet clear if any original Prison Break actors will be making special appearances, but more casting information is likely to soon be released with actors starting to sign on for the pilot.

The “Prison Break” reboot pilot at Hulu has added three series regulars, Variety has learned.
Emily Browning, Lukas Gage, and Drake Rodger have all been cast in leading roles in the pilot, which was originally announced in December. As previously reported, the pilot is set in the same world as the original “Prison Break” but will tell a new story with new characters. Exact plot details are being kept locked up.
Browning stars as Cassidy Collins, described as “an ex-soldier turned corrections officer takes a job at one of the deadliest prisons in America.” Gage will play Jackson in the pilot, said to be “a politician from a well-to-do background in his first congressional campaign.” And Rodger will play Tommy, “an inmate at one of the deadliest prisons in America, incarcerated ten years ago.”

Hulu and 20th Television’s Prison Break pilot from Elgin James is coming together as Emily Browning, Lukas Gage and Drake Rodger have been set as series regulars.
As we previously reported, James’ version will be its own thing and set within the same universe as the original Fox series of the same name from Paul Scheuring. This new project is not expected to involve the characters at the center of the Og project, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). The spinoff project was first revealed to be in development in late 2023 and was picked up to pilot in December.
While the plot of James’ version is under wraps, the trio’s character descriptions give a little insight.

Supernatural is in a class of its own, following the charismatic Winchester brothers around the country as they take on ghosts, vampires, demons, and more, all while preventing the apocalypse—a few times. The cult fantasy series has been off the air for almost five years, and audiences are looking for something to fill that void. While no other show is quite like the beloved horror series, there are plenty of amazing fantasy shows—some with overlapping elements.
Supernatural's major themes include family, good versus evil, sacrifice, and perseverance. The series also has a darkly comedic tone and a killer soundtrack. There are some other great fantasy shows, old and new, that fans can watch to scratch the Supernatural itch.

When it comes to the streaming world, newly released original shows face quite the uphill battle when it comes to fighting for a second season, as it often needs to deliver with both audiences and critics while serving up stellar viewership numbers. In fact, no matter how quirky the characters are or unique the premise is, if a show can't deliver in the ratings department it will likely find itself in the ever-ominous gravesite of fan-favorite programs gone too soon.

With the ongoing allegations and lawsuit against disgraced author Neil Gaiman, many upcoming adaptations of his works have been shelved by their respective studios. One such series was Dead Boy Detectives, a spin-off from Netflix's The Sandman universe, which premiered last year. The series was a hit for the streamer, holding a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But, it was one of the first shows to be axed when Gaiman was first accused of sexual misconduct and assault in early August, and Dead Boy Detectives Season 2 (among other adaptations) was canceled the same month.
Fans of the series mourned the loss, desperate to see Charles Rowland and Edwin Payne return to our screens for another season. Thankfully, that wish has been granted, just not in the way we might have hoped. The Dead Boy Detectives will return, making their final appearance in Season 2 of The Sandman — which will be the flagship series' last.

Big news, Dead Boy Detectives fans! While the ‘Sandman Universe’ show may not be returning for a second season, star Jayden Revri (Charles Rowland) is confirmed to appear in the final season of The Sandman, coming later this year!
In January, Netflix confirmed that The Sandman season 2 would be the end of the road for the fantasy series. We pretty much knew the show’s fate anyway, given that leaks from the set for the upcoming season showed that the team was filming scenes from the end of the comics. Hearing that the show was ending, while disappointing, wasn’t much of a surprise. The final season is confirmed to be released in 2025.
So far, we know that The Sandman season 2 will cover some of the comic’s most revered stories, including the ‘Season of Mists’ and ‘Brief Lives’ story arcs. It’ll also tell numerous beloved one-shot tales,...

The journey to placing a Dead Boy Detectives fan billboard next to the Netflix office in Los Angeles, CA, was a long one, but fans were determined to make it happen.

It probably goes without saying at this point, but considering just how many blockbusters we have coming out in July 2025 alone, we're going to say it anyway: Jurassic World Rebirth is one of the most anticipated movies of the year.
The seventh film in the Jurassic Park / World franchise, it seeks to reboot the billion-dollar phenomenon just three years after its previous installment, Jurassic World Dominion, wrapped up the arc 30 years (plus 65 million more) in the making. To do that, Universal has enlisted Godzilla director Gareth Edwards, Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp, and a star-studded cast featuring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, Dead Boy Detectives star David Iacono and more.

Updated with the latest: The Sandman, based on the comics by Neil Gaiman, will end with its second season. This news came following allegations of misconduct and sexual assault against Gaiman, which has resulted in his other projects being paused or canceled. The decision to end the story with Season 2 was made before filming on the second installment began.
“‘The Sandman’ series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,” showrunner Allan Heinberg wrote in a post shared on X. “We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all back together and giving us the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics’ loyal readers as well as fans of our show.

Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” will end with its upcoming second season.
“The Sandman” Season 2 has been a long time coming. The first season debuted in August 2022, and it wasn’t renewed at Netflix until November of that year. At that time, Netflix was also hesitant to label it as a second season at all, choosing instead to say it was “a continuation of ‘The Sandman’ world,” and wouldn’t commit to an episode count. Variety has confirmed the second season of “The Sandman” was intended to be the last prior to filming in 2023.

Last year, fantasy author Neil Gaiman was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. Since then, more details about the cases have come out. Although Gaiman has denied any wrongdoing, it's stomach-turning stuff, and we've seen studios either cancel or cut back on planned adaptations of his work. Netflix canceled Dead Boy Detectives, which is based on a story that originally appeared in Gaiman's The Sandman comic series. Good Omens, based on the 1990 book Gaiman wrote with Terry Pratchett, will finish with one final, 90-minute episode instead of a whole third season as planned. Disney has paused an adaptation of Gaiman's novel The Graveyard Book.
And now, Dark Horse Comics has announced that they have dropped Neil Gaiman, and that a comic book adaptation of Gaiman's 2005 novel Anansi Boys has been canceled. "Dark Horse takes seriously the allegations against Neil Gaiman and we are no longer publishing his works," the company wrote in a statement.

Dark Horse Comics has dropped Neil Gaiman, cancelling his Anansi Boys comic series, in the wake of sexual assault allegations brought against the author.

The comic books are the latest projects in Gaiman’s creative catalogue that have paused or been canceled in light of the news, which Gaiman addressed on his personal blog, denying the allegations.

Neil Gaiman has been dropped by Dark Horse Comics following a bombshell New York Magazine cover story in which several woman accused the “Sandman” and “Coraline” author of sexual assault.
In a post on X Friday night, the publisher wrote: “Dark Horse takes seriously the allegations against Neil Gaiman and we are no longer publishing his works. Confirming that the ‘Anansi Boys’ comic series and collected volume have been canceled.”
Gaiman denied the allegations brought forth in the Jan. 13 story, writing on his blog the next day: “I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever.” Representatives for Gaiman did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment regarding Dark Horse Comics’ statement.
Amazon’s TV adaptation of “Anansi Boys,” which is expected to release this year, had not been affected by the allegations at the time of the NY Mag story. Variety has reached out to Amazon for further comment.

David Tennant and Michael Sheen will return for a final, feature length episode of Good Omens.
Update: The final, 90 minute episode of Good Omens has now begun filming in Scotland. It involves everyone who’s not Neil Gaiman in wrapping the series up.
Gaiman, last week, faced extensive, detailed, further allegations of sexual assault. He has denied the detailed allegations. He is no longer involved in Good Omens.

The television adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s fantasy series Good Omens has been hugely successful over the last few years, not least due to the chemistry and charisma of leading duo David Tennant and Michael Sheen. The second series, which debuted in August 2023, was reported to be the number one show on Amazon Prime worldwide, and the first season was hardly struggling for acclaim, either.

As 2025 dawns, fans of several sci-fi and fantasy shows may be worried about incoming cancellations!
As great as it is to see a lot of sci-fi and fantasy shows rising up in the last few years, there's always the risk of some series ending sooner than expected. 2024 saw a lot of shows axed, many after just one year. That includes highly anticipated series like The Acolyte, Dead Boy Detectives and more. The same could happen in 2025, with several shows potentially on the chopping block.
Some are obvious due to lower viewership. Others may be huge and seemingly successful, but various factors could work against them. Here are 15 genre shows in danger of getting canceled this year.

Following a bombshell Vulture cover story detailing sexual abuse allegations by eight women, Neil Gaiman has issued a statement maintaining his innocence. Gaiman, an acclaimed author who has enjoyed success across a variety of mediums, was first publicly accused of sexual abuse allegations last summer through the Tortoise Media series, The Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman. During the six-episode podcast, five women accused The Sandman author of sexual assault (Gaiman quickly denied those allegations). On Monday, more women came forward via a damning story, There Is No Safe Word, published by New York Magazine's Vulture.
Gaiman addressed the comments made in Vulture's report in a post titled "Breaking the Silence," published on his website. He admits he is "far from a perfect person" and acknowledges involvement with the women interviewed but denies ever engaging "in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone."

Neil Gaiman has responded to a New York Magazine cover story in which several women accused the “Sandman” and “Coraline” author of sexual assault, writing on his personal blog, “I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever.”
In the full statement, posted Tuesday morning, the author expressed regret for how he has handled personal relationships, writing that “I was emotionally unavailable while being sexually available, self-focused and not as thoughtful as I could or should have been.” However, he underlined that he denies any allegation of sexual assault: “I’m not willing to turn my back on the truth, and I can’t accept being described as someone I am not, and cannot and will not admit to doing things I didn’t do.”

Before Neil Gaiman became the boss-level storyteller behind The Sandman, he was sneaking his creative genius into some of the coolest fandoms around. Marvel? Yep, he had a hand in that. Doctor Who? Absolutely. Back when he wasn’t a fantasy heavyweight, Gaiman was low-key making waves in universes fans couldn’t get enough of.

Netflix has developed a reputation for canceling shows prematurely, and 2024 only bolstered this idea. Netflix canceled the most shows of any major network or streaming platform last year, including some surprise cancelations that left fans disappointed. Netflix seems to know fairly quickly whether a show will be a hit or not, so it cancels shows after only a few weeks if they don't achieve their targets. Some Netflix shows wrapped things up on their own terms in 2024, like Arcane, but this is a rare luxury.
Many of the shows Netflix canceled in 2024 only had a single season to prove their worth. Some of the shocking cancelations include Dead Boy Detectives, The Brothers Sun and Kaos. All of these shows received positive reviews and could have developed as they continued, but Netflix's ruthless approach struck them down. One major complaint from fans during the streaming era is that new shows aren't...

Netflix led the pack in cancellations for 2024, ending more shows than any other network or streaming platform. Now that 2024 has come to a close, it’s official, Netflix once again handed out the most cancellations in the calendar year – though at this point, I don’t think anyone will find this surprising. While the streaming platform has gotten better as the years have gone by in giving shows final seasons and the chances to establish themselves with audiences, the streaming platform continues to have some of the biggest cancellation rates in the business and 2024 was no different.
In total, Netflix canceled 16 shows in 2024 while also handing six additional shows their walking papers with final season orders which are about as close to cancellations as you can get the only difference being that those lucky six shows will get to actually wrap up their runs with proper sendoffs. So when you combine the two groups, Netflix decided to end a whopping 22 shows in 2024 be it by canceling them directly or ordering final seasons.

Cancellations are a normal and expected part of the TV life cycle. No show can go on forever – well unless you’re The Simpsons maybe – and it’s inevitable that all shows will come to a close at some point.
That said, it’s far too common for some of the best shows to grace our screens to have their runs end abruptly and it’s incredibly frustrating as a fan when these decisions are not the result of anything the show has done wrong. In 2024, there were countless shows canceled across broadcast, cable, and streaming, and some of these cancellations were deserved or expected. However, there were just as many that have left us annoyed, bitter, and upset.
As 2024 draws to a close, let’s take a look back at the cancellations that we still haven’t gotten over this year beginning with the most puzzling cancellation on the superhero front,...

There were some good fantasy TV shows this year, but some deserved a lot more attention!
Every year, TV networks and streamers produce fantasy shows. In 2024, we got new seasons of House of the Dragon and The Rings of Power, and there’s always more around the corner. 2025 will feature the returns of shows like The Wheel of Time and the debut of a new Game of Thrones prequel in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, both of which we can see getting a lot of love and acclaim.
But sadly, some shows slip under the radar. Some fail to find an audience and end before their time, while others survive and have a chance to grow their viewership. Here are eight fantasy series from 2024 that deserved more attention and provided fantasy lovers with great entertainment!

Supacell delivered a fresh superhero story that immediately grabbed attention with a thrilling concept and spectacularly executed episodes in the first season. Netflix has tried several times to get into the superhero genre of TV shows. While they initially found great success with Marvel's Daredevil and a handful of related shows that didn't perform as well, Marvel eventually reclaimed their IP and left Netflix scrambling for a replacement. Again, the streaming giant found success with The Umbrella Academy, a series based on comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, but with that show now concluded, they are again searching for another super show.
Along the way, Netflix has commissioned a number of smaller graphic novel adaptations, including Jupiter's Legacy, I Am Not Okay With This, and Dead Boy Detectives, but all of these shows were canceled after just one season due to not hitting the goals Netflix hoped for. However,...

As a new year begins, Netflix fans may be worried about what shows may not survive in 2025.
Netflix viewers have sadly had to get used to the streamer’s tendency to cancel shows too early. 2024 saw several good shows like Dead Boy Detectives and Kaos cut short and why it’s hard to get into the streamer. They can surprise folks with longer renewals, such as two seasons for Ginny & George, and are likely to continue low-budget fare like Outer Banks and hits like Virgin River.
Still, Netflix is a business that has to cut down costs so it’s likely some fare won’t survive 2025. They can be popular shows, others more ignored, yet these are the ten Netflix series most likely to feel the axe in 2025, so enjoy them while you can.

Netflix is notorious for canceling shows early on in their runs. Sometimes that means a show might not make it past a few seasons. Truth be told, a lot of the streamer's originals are lucky to get to three seasons. Unfortunately, not infrequently, these shows become one-and-dones. Such was the case with "Dead Boy Detectives," a TV show set within one of the weirder corners of the DC Universe. Despite those DC ties, it lasted just a single season. But why?
"Dead Boy Detectives" was a spin-off from the "Doom Patrol" universe, yet it was also part of "The Sandman" universe on Netflix. "Doom Patrol" always had a weird place in the DC Universe, and it ultimately birthed a spin-off that took place in a different universe. It has been nearly a decade since the release of Star Trek Beyond, prompting many to wonder if the long-rumored Star Trek 4 will ever see the light of day. One of the stars at the center of the Kelvin Timeline movies, Zoe Saldaña, recently revealed that she believes time may be running out in making the film, but remains hopeful that the cast will get at least one more chance to be on the big screen.

We're at the end of 2024, and you know what that means. It's time to look back at what all happened this year. We'll start off by saying that it's been a rollercoaster of a year for many of the streaming services, especially Netflix. While there were many renewals from the streamer, there were also some cancellations.
This year, the streaming powerhouse pulled the plug on 17 of its original series, and there's even a chance there will be more cancellations since 2024 isn't quite over yet. Obviously, a show getting canceled is never a good thing, and it sucks for the people who were hoping for additional installments. However, there's one Netflix show that got the boot this year that we're not exactly sad about.
In this article, we shared all the Netflix show cancellations from this year as well as discussed why we weren't necessarily hurt by one of the shows being axed.

When it was announced that the famous DC comic Dead Boy Detectives was getting a television adaptation, fans were overjoyed. The show was a unique blend of dark humor and supernatural mystery that masterfully stayed authentic to the source material, greatly contributing to its appeal.
Hence, it was extremely shocking and disheartening for the fans when the show, despite being highly acclaimed, was canceled after its first season.

We're coming up on the end of 2024 and that gives us an opportunity to look back on, well, all of it. It's been a wild ride of a year (in good ways and bad) and, for better or for worse, so many people will still be talking about what happened in 2024 for a long time to come.
The same can be applied to the entertainment field, and in this case television. We've seen some absolutely game-changing TV shows make their presences felt this year, from X-Men '97 and Agatha All Along to The Penguin and the returning House of the Dragon. But we've also sadly seen an abundance of beloved TV shows come to an end, and in many cases prematurely so.
Superman and Lois bowed out on The CW after a four-season run with a truly perfect series finale that brought about an end to a 24-year chapter of DC TV history.
The same can be applied to the entertainment field, and in this case television. But we've also sadly seen an abundance of beloved TV shows come to an end, and in many cases prematurely so.

TV cancellations aren’t close to America’s most pressing problem headed into 2025 — but in an uncertain year for the entertainment industry, premature endings in creative workplaces pack as big a punch as ever.
Major guild strikes ended last year and the streaming bubble burst from 2022 has given platforms at least some time to recover since. Still, the countless impacts of Hollywood’s faltering business model could be felt throughout episodic and feature productions as dwindling work continued to move away from traditional opportunity hubs in Los Angeles. As film scenes in other U.S. states and Canada benefited from decline in Southern California, the swan song of peak television experienced an ongoing decrease in new series getting greenlit and an uptick in single-season cancellations.
From network staples ending this year to streaming favorites wrapping it up soon, the titles not returning say as much about the state of the...

Well 2024 really has been quite the year for television. It was a big one in general but, with a number of movies delayed until 2025, it was generally television's moment to shine. And, as we have seen throughout many years before, television knows how to shine.
This was the year that brought with it the return of juggernauts like House of the Dragon, Heartstopper, Squid Game, Outer Banks, and more, ensuring that the internet was always abuzz with some major developments. The same could be said for HBO's The Penguin, a thrilling new chapter of Matt Reeves' The Batman Epic Crime Saga that captivated audiences for its eight-episode run.
Marvel Studios also got back in the game this year, with a promising start with its first ever binge-style series Echo before it then caught everyone's attention with the critically-acclaimed X-Men '97 - the long-awaited sequel series and revival of X-Men: The Animated Series.

Of all the horror shows that premiered in the year 2024 (or debuted a new season), which one do you see yourself re-watching because it was just that good? I can think of a few!
In our list of the best horror shows of 2024, we include both new shows and old favorites that dropped a new season. But before we begin, let’s quickly mention the worst of the worst. On our list below, you will not find Hulu’s American Horror Stories or FX’s Grotesquerie, the latter being one series we wish we could unsee! Yes, it’s that awful.
And as far as honorable mentions go, we have to give a shout to Them: The Scare and Dead Boy Detectives. Now, drumroll for our top four….
From season 3

Do you know how many series ended up being canceled after just one season on major streaming services? And we’re not talking about horrible, low-budget shows, but major projects that managed to attract a lot of fans. Do you? The exact number is unknown, but it is quite large, and our colleagues from The Wrap have just written an interesting expose on how this might be an issue going forward.
Canceling a series is always a complex process and it is the result of a number of factors that are combined into one decision that will always make a lot of people sad, because however bad a series is, it will always have a fanbase.
As Lucas Manfredi says, it is difficult to actually measure the success of a streaming series as the numbers are hard to quantify objectives, but he assumes that modern cancel culture has done a...

The explosion of content from Netflix, Disney+ and other streamers has resulted in more TV shows than any human can possibly watch. And while the glut of content created something for everyone, the era of peak TV is over, with contraction in Hollywood bringing several shows to an end — many after just one season.
Single-season streaming cancellations in 2024 have included the surprise axing of Disney’s “Star Wars” series “The Acolyte” — a show whose premiere performed well according to Disney+’s own metrics — and Netflix series such as “The Brothers Sun,” “Obliterated” and “Dead Boy Detectives,” which once reigned in the streamer’s Top 10 lists and top 100 most-watched TV titles for the first half of 2024.
At least 19 streaming shows were canceled in 2024 after one season, after at least 25 were canceled in 2023.
