The live-action adaptation of Naruto faces the challenge of accurately representing the beloved characters from the anime, which has over 50 characters and 500 episodes. The casting for the film must include essential characters and spot-on actors to appease Naruto fans and capture the essence of the series. The selected actors, such as Oakes Fegley, Tenzing Norgay Trainor, and Oona O'Brien, have the potential to deliver stellar performances and bring their respective characters to life.
The live-action adaptation of Naruto will have quite the job coming up with a cast that accurately represents the characters from Masashi Kishimoto's anime. The project was announced by Lionsgate back in 2015, and though there has been little word over the years between the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2023 WGA strike, it can be assumed that the film will eventually make it to home screens. With streaming services releasing a dizzying number of shows each year, not all can be successful, and Netflix has canceled multiple original shows in 2023. While Netflix was once considered the leader of original streaming content, the development of new streaming platforms has created more competition. With rising inflation, people are less willing to pay for multiple streaming subscriptions, making it imperative that platforms put out only the best content. Beginning on May 2, the 2023 Writers Guild strike has complicated matters even further, as it has halted TV production and shows no signs of slowing down.
In 2023, Netflix launched a new plan to cut down on password sharing, as they were losing revenue. While the move drew intense backlash, Netflix has seen an increase in subscribers since. Many Netflix users determined that the quality content library was worth paying for an extra account, but that doesn't change the fact that the streaming...

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Thursday, April 4, 2023.
Netflix is not moving forward with Freeridge Season 2.
The On My Block spinoff launched on the streaming service in February but failed to get much traction.
The original series aired from 2018-21 and racked up impressive viewership for the service, so it's surprising the latest entry failed to resonate.
Freeridge was "a coming-of-age comedy following sibling rivals Gloria and Ines and their friends Demi and Cameron who have unleashed a curse bringing dark misfortune into their lives."
Pete Davidson is staging a comeback to Saturday Night Live, but it will be a one-time-only deal.
The SNL alum is set to host the May 6, 2023, installment of the veteran sketch show.
Davidson joined the show in 2014 and departed in May 2022.

Most of the On My Block characters didn’t make it to the Netflix spinoff Freeridge, but the new show found a way to bring back the original’s best character. Taking place in the titular town that was also the setting for On My Block, Freeridge follows a new cast of characters who are grappling with a cursed box as well as teenage issues and family problems. Although the cursed box appears to be a McGuffin at first, the box is actually a connection to a beloved On My Block character, Abuelita.
Abuelita, who is referred to by her given name of Marisol in Netflix’s Freeridge, is one of the most iconic On My Block characters and was hugely important to the original show. In On My Block, Abuelita was a central figure not only due to her role as Ruby’s grandmother, but because of her involvement in finding the RollerWorld money.

Netflix’s Freeridge is the successor to the platform's other show On My Block, but how are the two shows connected? It can be a risky move to set a sequel story in the same universe as another, as networks can run the risk of the second show forever living in the shadow of the former. But, when done correctly, a sequel story can help the original shine all the brighter while further exploring the shared universe’s lore while introducing new characters that are just as unique and engaging as the first heroes who started the entire endeavor. This is what makes it so interesting to see how Netflix’s two shows connect.

Freeridge is a spinoff of another popular Netflix show, On My Block, which takes place in the same town, the titular Freeridge. Most spinoffs include some of the same characters or continue the story of its predecessor in some way, but Freeridge is something completely new, following characters Gloria, Ines, Demi, and Cameron as they grapple with a cursed box, ghosts, and teenage issues like love.
On My Block’s RollerWorld storyline and beloved characters unfolded over the course of four seasons. The Netflix show concluded in 2021, and its successor Freeridge was ordered by the streaming service the same year, though it didn’t premiere until February 2023. This meant there was plenty of time for high expectations to rise for Freeridge’s plot and characters,...

Warning: Contains Spoilers for FreeridgeThe inaugural season of Netflix’s Freeridge deals with multiple spiritual themes, but it's not immediately clear whether ghosts are actually real in the show’s universe. Serving as an original spinoff of another huge Netflix property, On My Block, Freeridge boasts a new cast of characters and adventures, all taking place in the titular town. The teen comedy-drama follows Gloria, Ines, Demi, and Cameron as they deal with the consequences of unleashing a curse from an old box, which, among other typical teen problems, turn their lives upside-down.
The strange box’s curse isn’t the only paranormal presence in Freeridge, however. Along with the box, the characters in On My Block’s spinoff show find themselves dealing with multiple ghosts throughout the season. However, while the curse feels very real to the Freeridge characters, it is not as easy to tell if the ghostly...

As a great man once said, “February: It’s the worst month of the year, but it’s an honest month.” While I disagree with the “worst” part — August, and its sweltering heat, is abysmal— I can’t dispute the honesty inherent to February, especially when it comes to television. The cold weather, early sunsets, and lack of legitimate holidays can leave us exhausted, and when worn out, TV is often the quickest, simplest reprieve.
And in February, there’s no pretending. It’s too early for the networks to release their Emmy darlings, and too late to premiere their most-hyped projects. Instead, audiences are force-fed a whole lot of junk. Sure, there may be a few tantalizing tidbits stuffed into these big ol’ nothing burgers — a favorite actor or an entrancing subject — but the overall result is the same: a lot of bad food, that you may just have to eat anyway.

(Spoiler alert: This article contains Season 1 spoilers for “Freeridge”).
“Freeridge,” the spinoff to Netflix’s coming-of-age dramedy “On My Block,” is not trying to recreate the mystical realism of its predecessor, according to leads Keyla Monterroso Mejia and Bryana Salaz, who anchor the series with their brutally honest portrayal of two sisters often at odds with one another.
“We were all huge fans,” Mejia — best-known for her scene-stealing turns in “Abbott Elementary” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” — told TheWrap of “On My Block.” “Funny enough, we knew — we were casted in it — and we all watched the fourth season together. Oh, my God, justice for Spooky! But that’s neither here nor there.”
Despite following a new core four in the title neighborhood as they uncover the mythical happenings around them, co-creator Lauren Iungerich was steadfast in her belief that “Freeridge” would neither replicate nor rehash the four seasons of the show that established its universe.

Following in the footsteps of On My Block, Netflix's lighthearted comedy mystery series Freeridge boasts an impressive and talented cast. As an entirely original spinoff, Freeridge includes a wealth of exciting new characters, making it a worthy addition to the expanding franchise. However, given the crossover between the projects, many viewers are eager to identify new as well as returning characters and how they may fit into the overarching story.
Freeridge shares the same creative team as its predecessor, with Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez, and Jeremy Haft working alongside Jamie Uyeshiro, and Jamie Dooner – all of whom previously collaborated on Netflix's hit On My Block. Like the original, Freeridge focuses on a group of school friends slowly unraveling a mystery. However, where On My Block was often grounded in its storytelling, Freeridge leans into a more supernatural theme – focusing on a supposed curse accidentally unleashed by the central quartet.

The cast of the "On My Block" spinoff, "Freeridge," promised the new show would bring all the high jinks, mystery, romance, and life lessons that fans of the original loved, and the series - which hit Netflix on Feb. 2 - certainly delivers.
"Freeridge" season one follows a new core four of high-school friends - Keyla Monterroso Mejia (Gloria), Tenzing Norgay Trainor (Cameron), Ciara Riley Wilson (Demi), and Bryana Salaz (Inez) - as they navigate friendship, love, class conflict, grief, and - believe it or not - a curse wreaking havoc on their lives.
With appearances from familiar "On My Block" characters sprinkled throughout the fast-paced season - like Ruby's parents, Geny (Paula Garces) and Ruben (Eric Neil Gutierrez), as Gina and Inez's neighbors; Jamal (Brett Gray) calling in with some Roller World intel; and an Abuelita look-alike - "Freeridge" packs a punch for old and new fans alike.

Fans of Netflix's "On My Block" were passionate about the slice-of-life show that followed the lives of four friends in Freeridge, CA, as they navigated high school, romance, and socioeconomic hardships. The show ended in the fall of 2021 after four critically acclaimed seasons, and it's safe to say the young cast taking on the mantle of a brand-new core four in its spinoff, "Freeridge," - Keyla Monterroso Mejia (Gloria), Tenzing Norgay Trainor (Cameron), Ciara Riley Wilson (Demi), and Bryana Salaz (Ines) - have quite the legacy to live up to. However, they're the perfect group of up-and-comers to take on the challenge, because they love "On My Block" just as much as its fans.

Freeridge is a comedy series created by Lauren Iungerich, Jamie Dooner and Jamie Uyeshiro. It stars Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Shiv Pai and Bryana Salaz. Freeridge is a different kind of comedy, with very different kinds of characters.
Forget about perfect families living in perfect mansions with blonde bangs in the wind. These four teen friends fight with each other, have real problems and they buy things in supermarkets that offer bargains, and, they have a problem: an ancient box that ruins their lives and makes them be victims of a curse, so they will try to do everything possible and impossible to get rid of it.
Freeridge is amusing although a little conventional and it tries to break away from pre-established rules, but always remains within conventional patterns for teen comedy.

All hell breaks loose in the teen comedy mystery Freeridge, the new spinoff to Netflix’s On My Block. Featuring an all-new crew of four high school friends, sisters Gloria and Ines and close besties Cam and Demi, everything’s all swell in the neighborhood of Freeridge… That is until the group buy a haunted box and accidentally unleash a curse. Just like its predecessor, Freeridge is full of mysteries but instead of the “hidden RollerWorld money” conundrum you might have witnessed in On My Block, the spinoff takes on a more mystical path, waking up to creepy messages on a window in the middle of a storm, the ever-looming dark energy surrounding the crew, and lots (and lots) of sheer panic.
