Exclusive: Greg Kinnear has been tapped as a series regular opposite Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer in Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Apple TV+’s new drama series from David E. Kelley and A24.

In Margo’s Got Money Troubles, based on Rufi Thorpe’s novel, Fanning stars as Margo Millet, the child of a Hooters waitress, Shyanne (Pfeiffer), and an ex-pro wrestler, Jinx (Nick Offerman), who becomes pregnant after a brief affair with an English professor, Mark (Michael Angarano), at the local junior college she attends. Now, at 20, Margo is alone with an infant, unemployed, and on the verge of eviction. When her estranged father Jinx shows up on her doorstep and asks to move in with her, she agrees in exchange for help with childcare. Margo starts an OnlyFans as an experiment and soon finds herself adapting some of Jinx’s advice from the world of wrestling.

We had learned in the tail end of 2023 that the Courteney Cox horror series “Shining Vale” had been cancelled after two seasons at Starz, with the horror-comedy series being pulled from the Starz streaming service entirely at the end of the year. In other words, there was nowhere to even legally watch the series after its cancellation, but that has thankfully changed.

At the start of this year, Bloody Disgusting has learned, “Shining Vale” returned to streaming. The previously released two seasons of the show are now streaming exclusively on Max.

Created by Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan, the short-lived horror series was produced by Warner Bros. TV, which would explain how it ended up on Max over a year after being given the axe by Starz. Mind you, this doesn’t mean the series is returning to life with new seasons, but rather its previously produced two seasons have found a new streaming home.

Tyler Perry is getting real. The entertainment mogul’s Tyler Perry Studios has partnered with Asylum Entertainment Group in a joint venture to create and produce unscripted content. As part of the news, Antoinetta Stallings has been named vice president of unscripted programming for Tyler Perry Studios.

Under the new deal, Tyler Perry Studios and Asylum will co-develop, co-produce and distribute unscripted programming.

“I’m excited to bring the world of unscripted content to Tyler Perry Studios,” Perry said in a statement. “We’ve never tapped into this area of entertainment before and we’re looking forward to working closely with Asylum to bring unique real world stories to life. Veteran actor Eddie Marsan features in a key supporting role as John Adams and delivers one of the finest performances of his career while also shining a new light onto a man that many actors have depicted before.

The limited series follows Franklin’s eight years in France as he tried to persuade King Louis XVI (Tom Pezier) to join the colonies’ cause and aid them in the American Revolutionary War. Non-scripted production company Asylum Entertainment Group has taken a stake in London-based Dare Entertainment, the companies announced Monday. Under the deal, Dare Pictures will use the investment to expand its development, while its current angel investors Rosegown will exit the business.

Dare founder/CEO Derren Lawford will continue overseeing the company, which focuses on TV, film and podcasts. Dare’s credits include non-scripted projects like “Crypto Queen: Visionary, Victim or Villain?” and “Dalton’s Dream,” as well as “The Secrets of UK Prisons.” Michelle Morgan remains the chair in Dare’s new board structure, and becomes company director and minority shareholder of the business.

Variety reports, “The Season 2 finale of the horror comedy, produced by Warner Bros. TV, aired on December 1. Not only will the show be cut by the network, the first two seasons will be removed from the streaming service at the end of the year.”

Muse Entertainment Enterprises has tapped film and TV vet Alex Jordan to serve as its new senior VP of production. Jordan, who starts on January 1, will be based in Toronto and focus on producing programming for the international market.

Jordan most recently served as a producer on Paramount Plus’ “Mayor of Kingstown.” He also worked on feature “Between Waves,” which was released this summer. His other credits include working on series such as “Nikita,” “Transporter,” “Rogue” and “Private Eyes.”

“Alex has a track record of producing great shows, and I look forward to having such a respected and talented leader in our Toronto operation,” said Irene Litinsky, Muse Entertainment’s president of production.

“Any time you’re taking on a real-life person there is additional pressure,” says Linda Dowds, the makeup department head for the Tammy Faye Bakker biopic, “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” starring Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain. “With Tammy Faye, I think there is a whole generation that just knows her from those late night sketch shows. Mascara running down her face and all of that. I never found one piece of footage… where here makeup was all running like that. “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” is directed by Michael Showalter and premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September. Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield stars opposite Chastain as Tammy Faye’s husband, Jim Bakker, the controversial televangelist. “She’s larger than life, every which way,” Dowds says of Tammy Faye.

Filming in Slovenia presented several challenges for “The Wheel of Time” cinematographer, David Moxness, including the task of just getting to the shooting locations. “They loaded the trucks and they drove as close as they could get and then it was loaded into smaller pickup trucks and then it was into four-wheel ATVs and then we picked it up and carried it in the rest of the way,” Moxness tells Gold Derby in our Meet the Experts: TV Cinematography panel (watch the exclusive video interview above). Even with the difficulties that the crew was presented, Moxness could not argue with the beauty of the location. “The amazing thing was those challenges were completely outweighed by the fact that was such a beautiful place to shoot and amazing vistas that it was just like, wow, that’s what it’s all about.”

Greg Kinnear will make his Broadway debut as Atticus Finch in Aaron Sorkin’s stage adaptation of the classic Harper Lee novel To Kill a Mockingbird, replacing outgoing star Jeff Daniels in January.

Daniels, who originated the role when the play opened on Broadway in 2018 and returned when the production resumed performances after the Covid shutdown, will make his final appearance as Atticus on January 2. Kinnear begins performances on January 5.

Prior to the shutdown, the role was played by Ed Harris, with Kinnear originally set to take over in spring 2020. That plan was interrupted when the Broadway shutdown commenced in March 2020; Daniels and original cast member Celia Keenan-Bolger as Scout agreed to return to the show for limited engagements upon Broadway’s reopening.

Kinnear’s casting was announced today by producer Barry Diller.

Kinnear was Oscar-nominated for his performance in As Good as It Gets and nominated for two primetime Emmys. After finding initial success as the host of TV’s Talk Soup from 1991-95, he segued to an acting career that included roles in You’ve Got Mail, Mystery Men, Nurse Betty, We Were Soldiers, Auto Focus, The Gift, Someone Like You, Little Miss Sunshine, Baby Mama, and House of Cards. He’ll next be seen opposite Courteney Cox in the Starz comedy series Shining Vale and with Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser in the Apple drama series In With The Devil.

Exclusive: Frances Turner (The Man In The High Castle), Kristin Booth (The Hot Zone: Anthrax) and Jack Doolan (Marcella) are set to join Season 3 of The Boys in recurring roles. They will appear opposite series stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Anthony Starr and more.

The third part of the series will tell the story of Vought’s first superhero, Soldier Boy (played by Jensen Ackles) and his Payback team, focusing on his WW II exploits and more.

As of this writing, Gold Derby’s 31 Experts can’t decide who will win Best Movie/Limited Actor at the 2021 Emmys. The Oscar-winning director behind Rain Man, Good Morning, Vietnam and Diner is set to helm One Giant Leap, a series that will tell the story of the moon landing.

Exclusive: Katie Holmes has launched her new production label, Lafayette Pictures, in partnership with Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman and Jesse Korman of Yale Productions.

Holmes recently teamed with Yale on the new untitled movie she wrote, directed, produced and starred in, along with Jim Sturgess, Derek Luke, Melissa Leo, and Zosia Mamet. Oscar nominee Greg Kinnear (Misbehaviour) and Sepideh Moafi (The Killing Of Two Lovers) are set to star alongside Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser and Ray Liotta in Apple’s limited series In With The Devil, an adaptation of James Keene and Hillel Levin’s 2010 novel In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption, from Richard Plepler’s Eden Productions, Imperative Entertainment and Apple Studios.

The six-episode limited series, written by bestselling author Dennis Lehane and directed by Michael R. Roskam, is told through the lens of an intimate relationship between two prisoners, exploring the lengths that people will go to in order to seek redemption, if true absolution is ever really possible, and if so, at what costs.

Kinnear will play Brian Miller, the chief investigator for the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office. Moafi will portray FBI agent Lauren McCauley.
