I really was hoping for an upgrade after last year's animated Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie came out. These had big shoes to fill because they will be compared to the original non-animated trilogy of films. But much like the first animated film, I was disappointed. The animation still lacked and the scenes didn't connect very well. It felt very drawn out, more than it needed to and the scenes were just boring. I suppose the voice acting was a little better. But there wasn't much of a chance for a phenomenal performance. I feel like the idea has potential but they really need to fix a lot if they plan to continue this animated movie series.
Overall, 5/10.

Ok, I know that this film is bad, and compared to the live-action movie there's a lot of different because the live-action was better, but this animated film is better than the first animated film of Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
The Movie has a bad animation and it is a short movie, but the message is good, the connection between Rodrick and Greg is good and this film improve thing that Diary of a Wimpy kid (2021) haven't do that.
The film it isn't bad but it's not good either, it is better than the first animated film of Diary of a wimpy kid but then it is a middle point between a good or bad movie, I recommend more the live-action film because it have a better plot and character development.

This movie is an absolute nightmare compared to not only the book it is based off of also the original live action film. I have nothing nice to say about this film. This film has no sense of direction or personality and it seems like it came out of someone's ass. I don't feeling the bonding of these characters like I do in both the boo and the original movie therefore when the "climax" happens where the boys get into a fight I don't feel like something valuable was lost unlike how I did reading and watching both original sources. The animation in this film looks like it was made on ten dollars. All the characters move so slowly and weird. Everyone has noodle limbs. And overall everything looks weird. The voice acting also doesn't help. It's not awful but it can't even hold a candle to the near perfect acting in the original film. I could go on and on about why this movie is bad but I'll just leave it here because what I'm saying has most likely been said. Disney do better.

From the start to the 1 hr and 17 minute climax I absolutely wanted to die during this abhorrent movie. It is a disgrace to basic human decency and I would have rather binge watched both of the tall girl movies thrice in a row. To be frank, I did did not only despise this movie, I felt repulsed at my own inability to stop watching this car crash of a production. From the unreasonably poor attempts at juvenile humour to the laughable attempts at emotional relatability, it stunned me in its shear lack of quality. I can not believe that a 'creative' team was payed real money to produce this absolute trash.
I sincerely recommend that anyone and everyone avoids this movie at all costs.
However, it was still better than the long haul.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books by Jeff Kinney are funny and have relatable characters. The people who have read the books or the Second book know what I am talking about.
Now we have the animated sequel to Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2021) called Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2022). I liked the first animated movie, and I did like this second movie.
Greg and Rodrick are likable like in the books and still have good designs like the drawings in the book, along with a good brother relationship that was nice seeing knowing. Even though they do not get along most of the time they work together when they need to or help each other out when they need to.
The movie has recognizable scenes from the second book that look good in the animation style. If you had read the books or mostly the second book, then you would know where the movie is going.
I recommend reading the books, but you can watch this without having read the first book. This is a fine adaptation of the second book that I thought was as enjoyable as the first movie.

You wouldn't believe it, this whole movie is just nothing compared to the original. But it's more accurate to what happened in the book. But that doesn't really help it either. Last year when the first movie came out it was a devastating flop. The Animation, voice acting was horrible. As a huge Diary of a Wimpy Kid fan it hadn't been the same since the Long Haul, and the new Disney+ Project is making it worse. This movie seems to be more inline with the source material. It's obvious that they are trying hard to become meme cos Greg just played Never Gonna Give you up just to wake all the party animals up. This movie, in my opinion seems to be just a try hard attempt to make the series relatable for the younger generation, but their way of doing it is just bad.
I recently finished reading the book, and the first thing that struck me was the change in approach. Like the previous one, some scenes were cut, but the references were still present. I enjoyed this movie because it had better storytelling and still included the references. The character development was improved, and the relationship between Rodrick and Greg felt more authentic. I appreciated how Rodrick was portrayed in this movie, not as a hero or a villain, but as a regular teenager. I empathized with him during the talent show scene. As an older brother myself, I could relate to many aspects of the movie. Overall, I think Disney is on the right track with this one. "Rodrick Rules" was fantastic, and kids will love it when they watch it on Disney Plus. I have a feeling that there will be more projects related to "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" next year and beyond. The cast did an excellent job playing their characters in this movie. While live-action films will always be the best for 20th Century Studios, it's now Disney's turn to make more "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" movies. They could even release them in theaters, sell merchandise, and attract a large audience of kids who will want to see the movie repeatedly.

If Jeff Kinney had to choose someone, I understand that he would sell the rights to Disney. They are rich, they have everything, they could probably own Twitter, Facebook and Instagram if they tried. But sorry Jeff, you made a very big mistake this time. Continue making good books, please. And stop Disney! Rodrick Rules is the sequel to the last years animated Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie that is based on the second book of the fantastic franchise that I have loved since I started reading it, and when I see that they are making this, I am very disappointed. The live-action movies was very good, because they made it just right, with great humor and added some more new things for the franchise. This animated movie has none of it. They try to be modern, so they put the Rick Roll meme in the movie. Haha, very funny, they even ruin the whole meme in this movie. Bad presentation of the characters, too short for a Wimpy Kid movie to be, nothing new, and the most important, this is basically almost the same as the live-action movie "Rodrick Rules" that was ten times better. I think it is one more thing about this movie that is absurd. I can really not understand how the relationship between Rodrick and Greg is so peaceful and good, what is completely a wrong thing to do. It should be more arguing, fights and conflicts between them. I guess Disney didn't like it, maybe because it was too bad for children or something like that, I don't know. And why for Christmas actually? That was a big bad gift, really. Unfortunately, they are making the third movie of the animated series. The first one was ok, the second one was just too bad, how is the third going to be? I have a bad feeling about this...

Ok, I read the book recently, and the first thing that I noticed is that they changed the approach, just like the first one, they cut some scenes, but the reference is still there. I liked this movie, because it's still has the references and has a better story. The character have a better story line, the relationship between Rodrick and Greg fells more real. I really like how they introduce Rodrick in this movie, not a villain, nor a hero, just a teenager, but not like those in the cartoons, on the talent show I wasn't expecting that, I really felt bad for him. And being an older brother myself, there are a lot of things I can relate to. So this is a good movie, better than the first one. I think Disney is on the right track with this one.

They just keep making these, eh? Not good when one is somewhat of a completionist when it comes to franchises.
'Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules' is at least a minor improvement on the original animated flick from a year prior. The run time is nice and short so doesn't really overly stay its welcome, naturally (given I'm obviously not the target audience etc.) it was a bit boring throughtout for me. I can still acknowledge it's a relatively OK film, though.
The voice cast aren't anything worth shouting from the rooftops about, perhaps with the exception of a certain Ed Asner. It shows how the live-action films from this series actually did do a good job with its casting, because I still always associate the characters here to Zachary Gordon & Co. - despite only seeing those movies once or twice.
I'm split on the animation style. On the one hand it looks dull, yet kinda still works. I remember the 2021 release had some overt continuity issues onscreen, as well as a few audio problems. This one doesn't, at least none of which I noticed, so that's a plus point, I guess!

I had high hopes as the original diary of a wimpy kid: rodrick rules is one of my favorite movies. But this animation disaster didn't live up to the hype of the original movie. The plot was all over the place and to me didn't make sense. The movie seemed rushed and unplanned. I didn't find any of the "jokes" funny nor did half of them make sense. I have this two stars because the animation style it's self was decent but the movie was bad. I would not watch again or recommend to anyone seeking a diary of a wimpy kid movie. This would be the last on my list of options. Hope they can redeem themselves for the next movie (if there will be one).

Another movie in one year just like with the live-action trilogy, and this one? Yeah, I liked the live-action movie better. Like the first film, the animated version of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is entirely mixed as a movie. I'll give the movie does have a decent heart and the jokes are fine. However, there are also times where the movie does feel little doing something new from the book it was based on. Also, the characters do have good development, but some of them do seem despicable in a dull way. And the animation is fine, but often seems dated. Since the movie has now a proper full-length running time, I won't say to treat this as one of those specials. But all I can say is if you're not a fan of the first animated film, this is not for you. However if you want to see what the creator of the book himself does in movies even as a fan of the book series, then watch this at least once just to compare this to the book. The one thing I'll say is I was wrong about all these movies coming out every year. Because I read an article that the third movie is already on the works, but never mentioned it was going to release next year. You can tell Jeff Kinney is trying with the franchise, even in this and the first movie. Sure some may argue this and the first were faithful to the live action films, but at least he was trying to add some difference inspired from the book. Oh and by the way...Rest In Peace, Ed Asner.

I dislike the series a bit now that it's animated. Just personal preference, but I like the live-action movies much better. Also, love the books. Will continue watching these movies because my son and I enjoy the series as a whole, but let's go back to how it was in the beginning!!
My son said that he still enjoyed this movie and he liked it much better than I did. For me it's going to be a one and done one time watch.
I don't know what it is about the animated characters, but I just don't like the look of them. Even though they are similar to the drawings in the books I just can't get into it as much without it being real people as opposed to an animation.

Honestly, it's not as bad as the first animated Diary Of A Wimpy Kid movie. The jokes weren't that funny and the animation was dull, but the ending was pretty cool. Greg and Rodrick were more likable in this movie than the live-action ones which is ok but it kinda takes away from the characters. This movie was the definition of mediocre and lazy. I still think you should watch it because it's pretty short. It's very fast-paced but I think that's fine because most of the scenes are boring. At Least The movie wasn't unwatchable unlike Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul.
Also, Manny is still a menace!
Also, Manny is still a menace!
This movie is such a huge insult to the live action movie and the book. This movie is better than the long haul, but come on, is that really the bar we want to be going for here? I liked that the length was longer, I thought the voice for Bill was good and how there were more stuff from the book than last time. That is everything good in the book. The relationship between Greg and Rodrick doesn't feel genuine and they don't feel like actual brothers and I don't feel sorry when Greg gets caught or when Rodrick gets sad about not performing, the animation is also bad and did not improve at all over the last movie. All the other characters are bland or annoying and don't have any real personality besides two personality traits. There's also scenes that don't add anything to the movie and just exist to pad out the runtime. I've heard some people calling this movie amazing and that the majority of people are being too harsh. No. I think we have every right to be upset with how much it fails compared to the live action movie and how poorly written it was here, Jeff Kinney is not a professional screenwriter and it shows. The live action movie is an infinitely better way to watch an adaptation of Rodrick Rules. Don't check this out, it's not good and doesn't have enough positives to outweigh the negatives.
