Five Senses of Eros

Five omnibus style drama about sexually themed stories. Each of the stories are well conceived, and enjoyable to watch. Many of the actors are good looking, and adds to the story.

They are erotic stories, but is not just sexploitation, or excuse to put sexual scenes on the screen. In other words, there's good story to go with the visuals. I'm sure each viewer will have their own favorite story, but I liked "His Concern", "33rd man", and "Believe in the Moment".

Each of the stories are shot beautifully, and the presentation was well thought out. What adds more to the story is the attractiveness of the stars. Who could resist such temptations ? So while looking ordinary, each story has an element in them that makes us wish that it was our story.

The producers, and the director did a superb job, of putting subtle eroticism into the story. This is one of the better erotic drama from Korea, and is recommended for viewing.

When watching the first scene I thought it would be a interesting film and to some degree, it's pretty intriguing and had a good start. The movie has 5 different stories but they all have to do with something erotic, some maybe more intriguing than others. So basically it's a anthology film that is mainly centered on the theme of "Eros", even if the characters in each segments aren't really connected. Although the movie can be a bit awkward at times, it also doves into the human psychology. Since some stories are more interesting and intriguing than others and it really isn't a artsy film either although it seems to try, overall it just wasn't that great, but ain't terrible either.

From the marketing artwork, it's easy to get the impression that this movie is going to sexploit it's way throughout it's 129 minute runtime. And although the five segments do have a sexual theme running across them, Five Senses of Eros is actually more understated than one would expect.

Primarily all the segments are drama based love stories focused on male-female relationships. Each story has a specific situation at hand, for example story one (His Concern), is about a guy who meets an attractive woman on a train ride, yet he isn't confident enough to act as impulsively as he would like. Depending on your own mileage, you may find some scenarios more relatable than others.

The movie is ideally targetting towards couples, it's even a perfectly fine date movie. There's very little nudity and the sex isn't ever excessive or explicit. All of the actors/actressess are very attractive, making this quite an enjoyable watch.

Overall, this was quite entertaining and since the segments are not connected, the movie can be split over multiple viewings (if the runtime seems a bit long for casual viewers).

The very first short story is the one that made the biggest impact on me. But generally speaking the stories are at least decent. The thing you have to be sure of - your expectations! Don't go into this thinking you'll get a lot of nudity and sexual intercourse. There's almost none of the former and while there is some of the latter, this is not meant to be titilating that way.

So having said and hopefully you seeing this as dramas and human stories to a degree, you may enjoy this as it was meant to be. Calling it five senses of Eros (at least in Germany, though may be the international title) is not helpful in that department, but does sell (sex sells and all that). A good watch for some and a boring one for others ... let's hope if you decide to watch it, you at least enjoy it.
