Okay, but...

The first two seasons were good. The last season was garbage, not because of the change in cast (sad to see the guy go, glad to see the girl go), but because he producer's went out of their way to make the episodes more like mini horror movies which is not what the show is about. Also, the arrogance of Megan Hunt was a turnoff throughout the run of the series. Like, it was too much and I disliked her more and more.

Seasons 1&2 were great! Season 3 was dreadful.

I love this show! Just discovered it on Hulu and have totally binged it. I kept wondering why it didn't survive (see what I did there) until Season 3. What the heck? Axing 3 main characters and replacing them with 1 dishrag actor, terrible storylines, more graphic content...no wonder it got cancelled. How could the show not flatline 😁 when such drastic changes are made? Watch 1&2, skip 3. That's my advice.

Dana Delany in police procedural

Dr. Megan Hunt (Dana Delany) is a self-possessed former neurosurgeon who suffered some setbacks. It's been 4 years since a car accident left her with unknown medical issues which led to her patient's death. Kate Murphy (Jeri Ryan) hired the highly skilled doctor as a new medical examiner. She works with Ethan and Curtis in the lab as well as partnering with investigator Peter Dunlop. Police detectives Bud and Sam work the cases. She is desperate to reconnect with estranged daughter Lacey Fleming.

It's been awhile since Dana Delany has led a TV show, not since China Beach anyways, that lasted more than a season. She's good enough to anchor a police procedural. There is a functional group around her. Her relationship with Lacey holds a little interest. Her abrasive character never truly found the required love interest although Peter comes close. There are some big cast changes in the third and final season and they try to pump up the action/danger. It was probably done to try to save it from sure cancellation. Both renewals were surprises. It was obvious that this show was the low man on the network. The final Hail-Mary failed.

Hooked me!

I loved 'Body of Proof.' The quips were funny, Dr. Hunt was intriguing, and Dana Delany put on a wonderful performance. I started watching because I loved Dana in 'Castle' as Special Agent Jordan Shaw. Her character is similar, which I like; blunt, snarky, but human. She has a softer side that it a refreshing thing to see on a show like this. Her situation makes you want to hug her, but her edge makes you want to cross the street when you see her coming.

While unconventional, (I know some people's heads are spinning because of an ME playing detective, which really wouldn't happen,) I think it is in the character's nature, and that is really the premises of the show. I mean, it really just shows how extraordinarily smart she is.

I am really interested to see where this goes. I realize that shows like this can be overdone, but I am ready to give BOP a shot. I can already see parallels to shows like 'Castle' and 'CSI', but it is only the first week. I am definitely going to watch on Sunday and Tuesday to see what transpires. :)

Good show, but MASSIVE plot holes

Give it a chance....it has potential and is medically accurate

The series is about a defamed neurosurgeon Dr.Megan Hunt who has now left her profession as a surgeon and has become the medical examiner . She uses her expertise as a brilliant neurosurgeon to solve murders. ### THIS is the review based on PILOT ###

Just by seeing a pilot one can never decide if the show is good/bad...one can only guess how it might turn out..Most reviews here seem to judge it too early.

Dana Delany was good, not excellent. She tried her best in the pilot to portray in forty minutes , how a woman would feel in her position. It is tough to make an impression in the very first episode because an actor needs to build a solid foundation upon which her character would develop richly and as something people will connect to in the coming episodes. If in some scenes she seemed to falter I feel the writers are to blame because they seem to try hard to stuff all the emotions and past story in just 40 minutes and hey don't forget, there is a murder to solve too. Her character seem to unravel in a hurry and it's not Delany's fault.

The supporting cast were okay, actually they seemed like stereotypes taken from series like house(boss of hunt seemed like cuddy), the detectives(csi and castle?) and so on...yes the writers need to develop these characters better, although the confused doctor played by Geoffrey Arend (Dr. Elliot)and the frenemy played by Middlebrooks(Dr. Curtis) were unique and entertaining.

And for the plot, I cannot think of any plot holes and as a person in the medical field I can say that the medicine part was not slouchy like some soaps ( cough..grays anatomy)and was actually convincing.

So in conclusion, I would not write off the show this early...Let's wait and see how it develops.

It has improved

As much as I REALLY like Dana Delany, the first show did not showcase the writer's best abilities and I would have rated it a 5, at best. Nonetheless,I continue to watch the show and it has improved quite rapidly. The episode where Megan's (Dana) spoiled daughter has a school video project on what your parent does for a living was quite well written, particularly the closing. I think those who have given the show a chance have been pleasantly surprised.

Much has been said about Dana's character being obnoxious. I don't find her obnoxious at all. I think "direct" is a better word. The weakest links are the medical examiner's staff. They don't appear capable to have risen to that level of medical smarts. In general, the casting is a bit weak but, as always, Dana Delany is a joy and she carries the series.

Was Great, but went to Crap

Season's 1&2 were great. Dana was funny and sassy. We wanted to watch more and more.

Then the train wreck of season 3.

We lose and kill off of key characters, and replace them with new drama that doesn't fit in or work. Dana's character becomes caustic and a bitchy, telling off, anyone she meets, helping to flush the show down the drain. The whole atmosphere of the show changes taking a dramatic turn in season 3, characters that were once funny together are now at odds with each other and seem lost.

After watching the shows horrid change, its easy to see why Dana let things be, when fans tried to resurrect the series and failed.

Dr. Hunt, RIP, please!

We started watching this series during the pandemic because of a couple of episodes of Castle in which Delany appeared. She was very good and low key as an FBI agent.

The series began with a blustery performance of an out of control, abusive, self-absorbed M. E. with tons of baggage. As with most series the characters become more bizarre as the seasons roll on. Unlike with us ordinary folk who try to correct our interpersonal shortcomings, TV characters tend to become more exaggerated.

We made it through the 2 1/2 seasons, but I trying wanted Dr. Hunt to be one of the casualties in the finale. One of the most irritating characters I ever watched.

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be after the first 5 minutes

It was often silly, with enough clichés to fill all the cheesecakes in Philadelphia, enough exposition to require a PowerPoint presentation, and enough irascible doctor/detective work to make you wonder if the main character was the love child of Monk, House, Patrick Jayne, Tim Roth, Alexx Woods, Jessica Fletcher, and maybe even Harriet Korn but by golly someone was found to have died of Lupus in the first episode, and you can't beat that with a stick!

The thing is, I love medical shows and I love detective shows, so it's hard to go wrong with a combination of the two, and how are you going to do that except by keying on the Medical Examiner? Like House, the medical part of it seems pretty accurate, and it's fun trying to beat Dr. Hunt to the diagnosis. Oh yeah, and I also enjoy shows where people notice a lot of seemingly unimportant things - it gives me an incentive to heighten my own sense of awareness.

So you've got the keep-it-simple cop, and the hunky blond guy, the hard nosed but incredibly good looking female boss, and the somewhat incompetent assistant all playing off of the irascible main character who's so good at her job you can't fire her. But at least it's a woman this time!

Derivative, but enjoyable

First of all, this is a blatant and self-conscious ripoff of "House" that tries to be sexy. In general it succeeds but on a lower level. The writing is not nearly as smart or innovative nor are the actors particularly inspired, yet I still find it enjoyable to watch.

Highlights:

Dana Delaney glows on screen, and this character seems to have been written exactly for her. Some say Megan is abrasive and unlikeable but I think this shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what makes an interesting character. I would gladly work with or for Megan because you'd always know where you stood with her and there wouldn't be any games. I guess most people don't like other people who forthrightly speak their minds, but I find it refreshing. How many sitcom episodes over the decades have been based on people who refuse to say what they mean? Or think?

Nicholas Bishop is also well cast as Pete. A complex person and the Yang to Megan's Yin. Bishop runs the gamut from brooding to devious to jolly and never looks uncomfortable in any of his rolls. Obviously cast for his sex appeal (as opposed to the caricatures that are Ethan and Curtis) who was supposed to look good and be a romance interest for Megan, I hope they never actually get together. Their complex relationship and the team they make would only suffer.

Joanna Cassidy is irritating and exasperating as Megan's judge/mother and perhaps perfectly cast. It can't be easy to pull off a self-absorbed and flawed parental figure, but Cassidy makes it work. I hope she continues.

Disappointments:

Jeri Ryan is fun to look at, but so ornamental she doesn't seem right. She actually gives her best performance when sick and dying, and in the few scenes where she isn't trying to look like a supermodel. Another actor cast as sex appeal, but one that didn't work as well as Bishop. I like the character well enough, but I think she was miscast.

Shoes. Megan's shoes are worse than Carrie's flower button thingies in "Sex and the City." I know they're supposed to make her look fashionable and upper class, but instead they make her look silly. The one episode where she wears little red sneakers is actually a breath of fresh air. The only saving grace is Delaney can walk in them (unlike some actresses) without looking unstable. Note to producers: you actually can look elegant without wearing heels, and the heels on this series are trashy.

Romance. Most of the romance in this series is painful, and so far Megan's boyfriends have all been sort of unrealistic. I actually buy her ex husband as a bygone love interest, but most of the others leave me with a "Really? Given all the options you'd choose this guy?" feeling. The victims in this series all make better romantic choices than the heroes. The romantic conflicts all seem forced and intentional.

Location. Nowhere in the world is there a forensics lab like that. This drives me nuts! It would cost more than all the public buildings and the staff to run them in a city the size of Denver for that one building! I know corporate executives that don't have as nice offices as Megan has. However these days it doesn't make it any different from any other cop/doctor drama.

However I do enjoy watching the series. I think it's because many of the regular characters are likable even when they aren't particularly rounded. Megan's mother, Judge (Joan) Hunt, is overbearing and irritating, but yet you can't hate her for it. The three generations of the Hunt family really DO look like Grandmother, Mother, and Daughter, and the relationships do seem to be developing. The cops are the kind of cops you wish all cops were like, even with their flaws, although it might be nice if they were a little more complicated people.

I hope it continues for a few seasons.

Caviate: This series like a number of modern forensic programs can be visually pretty gruesome. It doesn't bother me, but it might bother some. Of course those are probably not the kind that will be tuning in to this program.

I also laugh that all the Apple products are pretty obviously disguised. I saw not one Apple logo on any device, while quite clearly almost all the devices were of Apple design. You can't disguise an iMac by covering the Apple logo with a gear sticker! I suspect it's a sponsorship thing.

A lot of conjecture for an ME

This show had potential and from what I hear got better further into the seasons. Unfortunately I couldn't make it that far. The premise is good and the medical terminology is pretty spot on. However, I can assure you that female ME's don't run around all day in tight skirts, high heels and full hair and makeup. This would make their job impossible, especially at a crime scene where mobility is important. Also there are several episodes where the main character Dr. Hunt doesn't wear gloves when handling specimens and evidence. For a doctor who is supposed to be extremely detail oriented, you think she would know better. The part this pisses me off the most is how Dr. Hunt and the police make a lot of assumptions and go around just showing up without search warrants, accusing people of murder and straight up arresting people on circumstantial evidence. In episode one Dr. Hunt accused an innocent man of murder to his face before having all of the results from the autopsy. Then the police arrested another innocent man on flimsy evidence. Again, they both ended up being innocent. Detectives and especially ME's are trained to be impartial and objective throughout an investigation. They may question suspects to gather information, but they don't just accuse and arrest with no real evidence or admission of guilt. If anything, going off half- cocked could jeopardize the case and open them up to lawsuits. Also Dr. Hunt is way to involved in the investigation and interrogation process. Most real life ME's try to stay away from suspects and parts of the investigation to avoid bias or the appearance of bias in court. Lastly, Dr. Hunts character is really unlikable and annoying. I love a show with a strong female lead who's tough and gets things done, but Dr. Hunt is arrogant, selfish and just disrespectful to everyone around her. Including her daughter and the people around her who are rooting for her. It's kinda annoying to watch.

hmmm

I love Dana Delany and I love crime shows....this show delivers in a similar way Desperate Housewives and the such do, unbelievable in certain aspects but thoroughly enjoyable at the same time.

I take some issue with the stiletto heels and the autopsies performed with the male cast members in a hair net and Miss Delany performing the main tasks with hers long and flowing.... but of course she looks great doing it ;)

The characters are fun and likable and the show has potential, I will continue to watch for the entertainment value, but don't expect too much complexity or originality.

Hunt character wears thin quickly

There's some interesting characters here (Ethan, Curtis, Bud, Samantha) but Delany isn't one of them. It's an interesting premise but the Hunt character wears thin very quickly. She's supposed to be this brilliant neurosurgeon who was demoted to ME for reasons beyond her control, yet her character is written as a bumbling ex-wife and co-dependent mother who's so abrasive that IRL no one would put up with her; and she wears it like a badge of honor. Perhaps most annoying are the ridiculous outfits she's forced to don, like a hooker from Beverly Hills with 6 inch stilettos and the same tired fitted suits that call attention to how big her head is on the 200 calorie per day body. Her naggingly high voice is too shrill for any main character anywhere ever. Her boss, played by Jeri Ryan, would have been a better fit for the role of Dr. Hunt. Delany is just not that interesting. Hunt is so brash we can't even feel compassion for her when the tear-jerky music comes on as a queue. It's a shame because the rest of the cast is very good. I can say that in S2 they try to tone her down a bit but she still looks exactly they same in every shot -- tight suit, immobile face with the sarcastic smirk permanently etched, silly spike heels and the same tired hair style that only slightly moves off her face when she's performing an autopsy. Is the character that egocentric or is it the actress? Hard to tell. (Yes, I said actress because that makes more sense than calling everyone an actor; are we next going to call everyone "he"? I mean, how ironic that we stop calling street covers "man holes" but then call all thespians the male adjective. Sorry for the rant but something to think about.)

nice character development

After watching the first few episodes I wasn't sure if I'd bother with any more. Initially I found Megan Hunt annoying, with her colleges too weak. It felt like a poor version of house.

After the halfway mark in the first season I noticed the character development and started to like most of the support cast. There's a decent level of comedy and I suppose we're seeing Megan learn how to deal emotionally with others.

Yes the show is formulaic, but then these days what show isn't. For an hour of my time I get a decent drama, a few laughs, and the odd smile. I'm looking forward to seeing how the character develop further nd hop we'll get a season 3.

It could have Been better

I saw the first season close to its air date but didn't get to see the rest so now I finished it.

It reminded me of crossing Jordan just little less good. But still it worked the cast of characters were good and had good chemistry. The main character DR Haunt was a bit too self righteous and knowing it all. But the others characters helped make her character work especially Peter as her Sidekick with the lab crew and the detectives. In season 2 the show felt complete with good stories and interesting cast dynamic that was created. But in season 3 they scraped all that, kicked Peter with the two detectives out pushed aside the lab crew and focused on Magen and the guy from her past. It just ruined what could have been a show that had potential to do more seasons..

Seasons 1&2 10/10....season 3 dreadful

I happened upon this series by accident. I saw it was filmed in RI (my residence) so I decided to give it a watch. The first two seasons were an absolute delight. Great character development, witty banter and heart warming episodes that kept me wanting to see more. I can't give it enough accolades. Dana Delaney nailed her part.... part brash, part sarcastic but always caring about the deceased people on her table....determined to find out why they died to give their family closure. Awe-some!! Season 3 was dreadful... more of a Body of Proof/Criminal Minds wannabe. Gone was all of the charm from S1,2 replaced by gore and nonsense. Please give Seasons 1 & 2 a try. You will be glad you did. Skip Season 3.

Just hits the spot

i personally love crime shows like 'Bones' and 'Castle' and 'Body of Proof' is exactly what i wanted, it mixes the excitement of crime fighting with the complex work of forensic analysis.

It is shows like this and my liking towards science which led me to want to be a forensic examiner. It keeps interest, which is hard these days with so many crime shows on TV, while still staying in the context of crime fighting and has a well composed back story.

To conclude, 'Body of Proof' is wonderful in its ability to bring together all the best aspects of modern crime shows while staying unique in its own way and is a great show for people of all age

I feel the summary and synopsis didn't describe the main character correctly

I have only watched the first few episodes but have seen other reviews. She may be prickly and sometimes say things to suspects that are harsh but if she were a man she would not be seen as being obstinate and full of herself like she is described.

She is looking to find the truth of deaths. she cares for all her patients who died... she wants to know their story. I've seen her evolve even from the first few episodes. Its no quick transformation but she cares about the people she works with and the people who were murdered and with her family, sometimes she needs the advice of others but then she thinks about it and adjusts what she does. She doesn't go around hugging the person who gave her the advice but in real life... what doctor does that. A man would never do that they find a way to quietly thank them without saying it outright. And she isn't disrespectful to her superiors all the time its her act of rebellion doing what she feels is right to get answers. She doesn't do it all the time and her bosses respect her. I think people would have wanted to see the show more if she was described correctly.

Logic and common sense don't apply in this show

In the 25 episodes of this show I've seen so far, I've seen only 3 episodes where the case was solved in a logical manner. In most episodes they make such huge leaps of logic that common sense doesn't apply. In real world, most of the cases they "solved" in this show would have been thrown out of court due to lack of evidence. In each episode, they draw such ridiculous conclusion from such little evidence that they don't really solve anything but they still pretend that they did. It's like "hey we found traces of hair spray on the dead body and only one person in the world uses this brand of extremely rare hair spray so we got ourselves a killer". Then they celebrate solving another case when in fact the case isn't really solved since it would have been thrown out of the court since their "evidence" doesn't prove anything.

Apart from lacking common sense and logic, one annoying aspect of this show is constant bickering and fighting between our main characters. Half of each episode is dedicated to two or more characters arguing and fighting among each other for trivial stuff that doesn't even matter.

Also, in the first season and half, Dr. Hunt is someone with eccentric personality, unorthodox methods and interesting character but after about mid part of second season she turns into an unbearably terrible person with bipolar personality disorder who is extremely abusive and mean to everyone around her. Talk about character development in the opposite direction.
