April is going to be a good month for G.I. Joe fans, with films from the action-packed series finding a new streaming home. The two films that launched the franchise will stream for free on Tubi.

Beginning April 1, Tubi has both G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.The Rise of Cobra was the first film released, kicking things off in 2009 with a cast that included Channing Tatum, Dennis Quaid, Lost's Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston, and Inception's Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The movie featured an ensemble cast based on the toy line's characters, with its story following the team trying to stop the rise of an evil organization known as Cobra, led by Destro (Eccleston) and the mysterious Cobra Commander (Gordon-Levitt). The Rise of Cobra hit theaters to negative reviews from critics, but fans of the franchise showed up at the box office.

Tubi, Fox’s free streaming service, has announced its list of April titles. The Tubi April 2025 slate features new Tubi Originals, TV series, and numerous action, art house, Black cinema, comedy, documentary, drama, horror, kids and family, sci-fi and fantasy, thriller and Western titles.

A series adaptation of “Crazy Rich Asians” is in development at Max. Adele Lim, who co-wrote the 2018 film, has been set as showrunner and executive producer, while director Jon M. Chu will also return to executive produce.

Like the film, the TV project is based on Kevin Kwan’s book series of the same name. “Crazy Rich Asians” was published in 2013, followed by “China Rich Girlfriend” in 2015 and “Rich People Problems” in 2017. Kwan executive produced Lim and Chu’s 2018 film and will also executive produce the Max series, for which Warner Bros TV is the studio.

It is not yet known whether the series will feature returning cast members from the film.

I always promised the cast, I will not bring them back unless we get a script that’s better and has as much urgency as the first movie. Comic Book asked Chu if he would be open to directing another G.I Joe film. Chu noted that he is currently busy with Wicked and its follow-up, Wicked - Part Two, which opens in theaters in November 2025, so his schedule is locked down for now.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation director John M. Chu addresses his potential return to the franchise. Released in 2013, G.I. The award recognizes “an artist who exemplifies distinguished achievement in the art and business of film,” according to Ace. Film editors Maysie Hoy and Paul Hirsch will also receive career achievement honors for their “outstanding career contributions to film editing.”

All honors will be presented at the 75th annual Ace Eddie Awards on Jan. 18 at UCLA’s Royce Hall. Nominations will be announced on Dec. 11.

As an avid fan of both franchises, I have always imagined what it would be like for Cybertronians to team up with elite agents of G.I Joe. Paramount Global mogul Shari Redstone, who deliberated for months about whether and how to relinquish control of her family’s film and TV empire, now formally has a new offer to consider.

A consortium led by Edgar Bronfman Jr. — heir to his family’s Seagram’s liquor fortune and an executive who formerly ran Universal Studios when his father owned its parent company — unveiled a competing bid for Paramount and Redstone’s holding vehicle, National Amusements.

Bronfman submitted a roughly $4.3 billion bid to acquire National Amusements, The Wall Street Journal reported Aug. 19. His offer includes $2.4 billion in debt and equity for National Amusements, and Bronfman also would contribute $1.5 billion to Paramount’s balance sheet, which could be used to pay down debt, according to the paper, which cites multiple sources. Bronfman’s bid also adds the $400 million breakup fee if National Amusements was to go with a rival deal.

Director cum producer Michael Bay has proven his star-studded worth in the entertainment industry one too many times, especially through the masterpieces he helmed for the multi-billionaire Transformers franchise. That said, the 59-year-old artist seemingly had no intention for his robotic saga to get a crossover with Dwayne Johnson’s $712 million worth G.I. Joe franchise.

Although it may seem surprising, this was Bay’s original decision regarding his franchise when this idea was proposed to him by Brian Robbins, the current CEO of Paramount, and was rightly so for a very understandable reason. However, Robbins seems to have eventually come out victorious over him, considering how a crossover movie between these two sagas is currently in the works.

Joe: The Rise of Cobra, was one of the most overstuffed and nonsensical attempts to launch a film franchise; its sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, didn't fare much better despite having Dwayne Johnson in the early days of his "franchise Viagra" phase. Henry Golding's talent couldn't save Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. Paramount is making another attempt to relaunch the franchise with a G.I. Joe/Transformers crossover, but there's another film that the studio should look to for inspiration: Megaforce. Megaforce is chock-full of all the elements that would make a great G.I. Joe movie in fact, it's the one movie that closely resembles a live action adaptation of the G.I. Joe animated series.

The Transformers film franchise is taking an explosive next step. One that just so happens to involve a few Real American Heroes.

Paramount Pictures confirmed an upcoming crossover film between the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises as of April 11. Cbr was present when the news was announced during the studio's presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, during which Paramount Pictures President and CEO Brian Robbins discussed the film along with other upcoming ventures within the same franchises by acclaimed producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

Unfortunately, since the third film in the franchise, Snake Eyes, failed both commercially and critically, the G.I. Joe live-action franchise seemingly ended abruptly.

After 2007’s Transformers became a huge box office hit, Hasbro would pull from another of their popular properties that also had a place in pop culture with an 80s cartoon — G.I. Joe. However, G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra would not do the kind of numbers that Transformers had brought in, and the style was surprisingly geared more towards the Michael Bay film with some sci-fi twists rather than a more straight-forward military combat movie with colorfully eccentric characters. The sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, would offer more of what many would come to expect from the property and had actually become more successful commercially (mostly thanks to Dwayne Johnson‘s star power).
