I recently saw the Italian short film "L'inferno" on the internet and thought it was a rather amazing picture. However, I wasn't sure if it was the entire film or just the surviving portions, as there were no intertitle cards nor opening nor closing credits.
To enjoy this film, it would definitely help if you've read Dante. Otherwise, as the man is being shown about the various portions of Hell, it really makes little sense. As for me, it was enough simply to enjoy seeing the wild and weird little vignettes....as the special affects were incredible for its time...using various tricks like those used by the early filmmaker, Georges Méliès. Pretty amazing stuff for 1911!
