When Miranda Lambert walked offstage at Denver’s Pepsi Center on March 2nd, 2020, it marked the last time she would perform in front of paying fans for more than a year. That dry spell came to an end last week when Lambert played her first three of five scheduled indoor concerts at Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth.

Carrie Underwood is the queen of the CMT Music Awards, but we think Luke Combs will edge her out for Video of the Year when prizes are handed out tonight, October 21. Scroll down to see our forecasts with nominees listed in order of their racetrack odds and our projected winners highlighted in gold.
Underwood has won Video of the Year at these fan-voted kudos a record seven times, including just last year. Producers of the 2020 Cmt Music Awards belatedly unveiled the list of nominees for the long-postponed telecast, and among the leading contenders, there was a six-way tie for first. Three nominations apiece went to Dan + Shay, Ashley McBryde, Luke Combs, Kelsea Ballerini, Thomas Rhett and Sam Hunt.
Artists with two nominations each are Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Kane Brown, Gabby Barrett, Blanco Brown, Little Big Town, Old Dominion and the Chicks.
Initial nominations for the top prize, video of the year, are always unusually crowded, as the Cmt Awards start with a list of 14 nominees that’ll be whittled down to five prior to the Oct. 21 telecast. The first round of fan voting among those 14 finalists will stop on Oct. 12 at noon, with the whittled down list of five finalists announced shortly after that, as voting reopens. Well time is nearing to Zack Snyder and Chris Nolan’s casting net catching the new Man of Steel for their reboot of Superman and now we know they want some lesser known to unknown for the coveted role of Superman/Clark Kent. I thought I would take the time put some lesser known names out there that would be good to look at for this film. I have heard of these guys but that’s my job to know these names but to many out there these are dudes they have never heard of. So without furthur ado I think the best choice from all these candidates is Henry Cavill. I think he has the look, the chin, the height, the physical attributes in spades but he also has the acting chops that you’d want in newcomer actor. So who do you like out of our list?

We have the first cancellation of the 2009-10 season. No big surprise here - Fox today pulled the plug on new soap Lone Star after 2 airings. Starting next Monday, Lone Star will be replaced by procedural Lie to Me, which has been called to duty earlier than planned. Lie To Me's third season will launch next week in the Monday 9 Pm slot, which the crime drama once occupied. It is not clear what will happen with the 3 produced episodes of Lone Star that have not aired yet. The show is currently filming episode 6 with a decision whether to stop production pending. The writing was pretty much on the wall after the much-hyped Lone Star opened with a 1.3 rating in 18-49 last week. It got a reprieve but, instead of rebounding, it actually slipped from its disastrous premiere last night to a 1.0 rating, tied with the CW's Gossip Girl in the 9 Pm hour.

The first casualty of the broadcast season is one of the best reviewed new shows of the fall: Fox is pulling "Lone Star," its acclaimed drama about a con man leading a double life, from Monday nights.
The third season of procedural drama "Lie to Me" will take its place starting next week.
Though the fate of "Lone Star" has preoccupied the media since its dismal debut last week, there's several other shows that are also endangered after only one or two episodes.
ABC's Wednesday night legal drama "The Whole Truth" (4.9 million viewers, 1.5 adults 18-49 rating) pulled only 15% higher than the premiere of "Lone Star." ABC's Thursday ensemble soap "My Generation" (5.2 million, 1.6) was likewise modest.
The second episode of NBC's "Outlaw" (4.9 million, 1.1) laid an egg last week, even by the humble standards of Friday night. And a return to the civilian format of "The Apprentice" (3.8 million, 1.4) is struggling on Thursdays.

"Lone Star's" second episode picked up where the pilot left off and the action started coming fast and furious, which was a welcome feature after the exposition-heavy pilot.

There's been many comparisons made between Lone Star and the epic '80s primetime soap Dallas. After tonight's second episode, "One in Every Family," the parallels became much clearer.
Yes, we've got it all! The meddling sister-in-law, the dueling brothers, big Texas oil and two rival patriarchs - both self-made men, each making his way on opposite sides of the law.
If there were any doubts about the feel and direction of rookie creator/producer Kyle Killen's new series, tonight's episode set the course. Lone Star feels like a primetime soap but the writing and direction (tonight's episode was directed by Thirtysomething's Peter Horton) cons you into thinking it's a high-brow drama. So basically, it's all the taste without the guilt, as they say.

This argument would be a lot easier if I were pleading to longtime fans of an established TV series to stop the show from cancellation. However, today I write to the collective TV viewing public to help avert a tragedy. Fox’s new series Lone Star debuted to poor ratings this week as it found itself against Dancing with the Stars (give me a break) and The Event, a series whose lingering mystery doesn’t cover up the shows gimmicky writing surrounding it. Some might be thinking this is just the nature of the TV industry where only the strong survive. If only strength was determined by the quality of writing, directing and acting then I might be willing to let the system take its course on Lone Star, but I can’t stand by and let a perfectly good show go to waste.

After a disappointing premiere for Lone Star, the vultures seem to be circling the new drama starring James Wolk as a sexy con man leading a double life. The series, which also stars Jon Voight, only averaged 4.1 million viewers on Monday and a mere 1.3 rating/3 share among adults 18-49. Naturally, the assumption is that Fox will consider axing the show sooner rather than later.
For now, however, the network has yet to make a decision. One insider told EW that Lone Star is still scheduled to return next Monday with a new episode — though there’s always the chance that...

I know what you're thinking. I do. It's on Fox. It's been incredibly well-received by critics. It won't make it until mid-season. That's probably true. And it was true of "Firefly," as well. Fox pulled it, broke your heart, and you'll never forgive them for it. But how much did you love those 11 episodes, aired out of order? How many great characters did that show introduce you to? And how many great actors? If you'd known it was going to be cancelled only 11 episodes in, would you still have watched it? Would you have still bought it on DVD and viewed it again half a dozen times, knowing that the series was incomplete?
My guess is that you would. I know I would. I know I'd watch the half-season of "Freaks and Geeks," again, even knowing that it'd never finish its run. And "Undeclared," and countless other shows I got...

And they’re off! The broadcast networks last night kicked off what is shaping up to be one of the most competitive seasons in awhile. The opening night featured the premieres of 5 new series airing against Monday Night Football on Espn. No blockbuster, out-of-the-gate hits despite heavy promotion for Hawaii Five-o and The Event but three of the rookies did solid business: the new Chuck Lorre comedy for CBS Mike & Molly (3.9 rating/10 share in adults 18-49, 12.2 million viewers overall), the Hawaii Five-0 reboot on CBS (3.8/10, 13.8 million viewers) and NBC's The Event (3.7/9, 11.2 million). One did Ok: NBC's Jerry Bruckheimer-produced drama Chase (2.5/7, 7.9 million), and one flat-out bombed: Fox's much-lauded Lone Star (1.3/3, 4.1 million). Here is a rundown network-by-network: CBS For me, one of the biggest surprises of the night was how well Two and a Half Men did. In order to be a successful con man, you have to be adept at living a double life. But what if you feel like going straight? If you've been living a lie for years, can you suddenly change course and become an honest man? That's the question on the premiere of 'Lone Star' (Mon., 9Pm Et on Fox).
[Spoiler alert.]
Bob Allen (James Wolk) is two different people. In the suburban town of Midland, Texas, he's "Robert" -- a grifter who cheats local investors while living with his cute (yet clueless) girlfriend Lindsay (played by Eloise Mumford). Meanwhile, 400 miles away in the big city of Houston, he's "Bob" -- and he's married to Cat Thatcher (Adrianne Palicki), the daughter of an ultra-rich oil magnate. In Houston, he plays the part of the "perfect" husband, although he's also trying scam money from Cat's father Clint (Jon Voight).

Easily the best piece of dialog I've heard since I began blasting through this season's new pilots and by the time David Keith (An Officer and a Gentleman) uttered the line in tonight's Lone Star premiere, I was already hooked on this show.

"Lone Star" is the new drama from Fox where Robert/Bob Allen (James Wolk) is a con man leading a double life in Texas oil country. His wealthy Houston wife is Cat Thatcher, played by "Friday Night Lights" alum Adrianne Palicki, who tells Zap2it she's excited to play someone her own age for once.
"I've never played a character that was my age," laughs Palicki. "She comes from the right side of the tracks, which I'm also used to playing the opposite. She has a 7-year-old daughter. She just really interested me in those respects. And the script itself ... I've never read anything like this. The scripts just keep getting better and better."
Part of her wealthy upbringing means Cat isn't used to working very hard, which is something she admires in her husband Bob.
"She sees in Bob the things that were lacking in her past relationships," says Palicki.

Lately the troubled and morally questionable characters of television like Don Draper of Mad Men and Walter White of Breaking Bad have been sweeping audiences off their feet. But Fox is hoping that an alliterative name isn’t the key to their success as they’re sending Bob Allen (James Wolk in his first starring role) into the ring of anti-heroes. Stepping into the void left behind by the cancellation of FX’s gypsy con-family drama The Riches, Fox’s new series Lone Star puts us right in the middle of the double-life of a con-man as he contemplates giving up his conveniently mobile and fraudulent life in favor of real love. The only problem is that real love comes in the form of both his middle-class, homegrown girlfriend in Midland, Texas and his upper-class, oil tycoon offspring of a wife in Houston, Texas. If you’re not onboard for the long-con just yet,...

Cable networks, which can build success from the audiences available to niche shows with limited appeal, have recently offered up a series of shows with characters designed to test the limits of audiences in ways that shrug off conventional thinking. Various criminals have taken center stage in experimental efforts to attract people to watch those who are, at best, extremely limited in their potential likability.
Lone Star, premiering tonight on Fox at 9/8c, skirts the line, but has to know that a certain segment of the population just isn’t going to sign up. While I don't think the Kyle Killen-series is perfect--there are quite a few flaws that jump out during the pilot episode--it has the potential to develop into something intriguing. That is, if viewers give it a chance. The series revolves around Bob Allen (James Wolk), a roguish con man who has ingratiated his way into two women's hearts. There's the mark: Cat (Friday Night Lights' Adrianne Palicki), the wealthy daughter of an oil tycoon (Jon Voight), who Bob used to infiltrate the company. And then in the small Texas town of Midland, there's Lindsey (Eloise Mumford), his earnest girlfriend for whom he enjoys mowing the lawn.

Chicago – In a world where it’s becoming increasingly difficult for many people to hold one job or keep together one family, it’s not hard to see audiences entertained by watching a man try to juggle two of each. Such is the story of “Lone Star,” a very promising Fox soap opera that could be a breakout hit of the season if it survives one of the toughest time slots of the week.
Television Rating: 4.0/5.0
With a pilot directed by Marc Webb (“(500) Days of Summer,” the “Spider-Man” reboot in pre-production), “Lone Star” fills a hole in the broadcast network schedule that you might not have even realized was there. The broadcast schedules have been overrun with procedurals (“NCIS,” “CSI”), reality shows, or high-concept dramas that want to be the next “Lost.” The result has been the disappearance of a genre that used to rule the ratings — the adult soap opera.

The cast of Fox's "Lone Star" includes plenty of actors you've seen before, including Oscar winner Jon Voight, always busy character actor David Keith and "Friday Night Lights" favorite Adrianne Palicki. But much of the show's success hinges on a pair of stars who may not be quite so familiar. James Wolk is the show's star, playing romantically inclined con man Bob Allen. Wolk impressed Hallmark Hall of Fame viewers as the star of "Front of the Class," but otherwise, he'll probably be new to you. As Lindsay, the salt-of-the-Earth Midland girl who shares Bob's heart, Eloise Mumford...

It's a provocative premise: In Fox's Lone Star, Bob Allen has been raised a Texas con man, grifting through life until he falls in love for real — twice. Now he wants to go straight, without losing either woman, or the worlds they live in (respectively, an oil-rich dynasty in Houston, and a tight-knit small town in Midland.)
Video: Lone Star cast talks about the pilot
Following someone leading a double life on TV can be done — see: Don Draper, Dexter, Nurse Jackie — but it can be tricky. Will Lone Star be a 22-episode tease? Will his ruse never fall apart? Will his wives never meet? And if they do, does the show morph into something else? Series star James Wolk talks to TVGuide.com about taking on his first major role (and changing his professional name to go with it), playing the sociopath you root for, and what he thinks...

James Wolk leads a double life in Lone StarLone Star, a sophisticated and provocative drama set against the sprawling backdrop of big Texas oil, premieres its Pilot episode this Monday, September 20th, on Fox. From Christopher Keyser and Amy Lippman, writer Kyle Killen and directed by Marc Webb, the compelling series stars newcomer James Wolk as a charismatic and brilliant schemer who has entangled himself in a deep, complex web from which he can't break free. He's caught between two very different lives and two very different women.
We recently caught up with both James Wolk and Amy Lippman to chat with them about this new series. Here is our conversation:
Hey Jim. I just wanted to make sure I was clear on the technical details here. You went to North Farmington High, is that right? And your Dad's store was in West Bloomfield, is that right?

In the next day or two I’ll finalize my thoughts on why Fox‘s Lone Star is one the shows you don’t want to miss this fall, but for now I have what I think turned out to be an insightful Q & A interview with James Wolk and Amy Lippman. Lippman is an executive producer on the show, and Wolk stars as Robert/Bob Allen.
Whatever else you may be thinking going into this show, it’s hard to dismiss the difficulty of the project. There’s a lot to pull off when you have a show with a conman leading two lives, not the least of which is just getting him to come through as likable and/or watchable. This show manages it all quite well, and I recommend you tune in.
The show premieres Monday, September 20th 9/8c, and let me give you the quick rundown before jumping into the interview.

The new Fox drama Lone Star centers on Robert Allen (James Wolk), a charismatic and brilliant con artist who has meticulously constructed two lives in two different parts of Texas. As “Bob,” (Wolk) he lives in Houston and is a devoted husband to Cat (Adrianne Palicki), the beautiful daughter of the patriarch (Jon Voight) of an ultra-wealthy oil family. In the suburban town of Midland, he’s known as “Robert,” where he lives a second life with his sweet, naive girlfriend, Lindsay (Eloise Mumford). He has lived both lives successfully for years without arousing any suspicions, but he now fears that his secrets may unravel as he becomes divided by his love for two women.

"Lone Star," a new drama from Fox, is Zap2it's pick as the No. 1 new show to watch this fall.
Star James Wolk and executive producer Amy Lippman talk about the challenges of a sympathetic character who sometimes does not-so-sympathetic things.
"Bob wants to make people feel comfortable," Wolk says of Robert/Bob Allen, a con man living a double life in Texas oil country. "His greatest tool as a con man is to make people believe him."
"I think the most challenging thing for Bob is being everything to everyone," Lippman adds. "It's more difficult than anyone could imagine to live two lives. The greatest challenge is to give to all of these people and really he can't. He's in two different worlds."
Robert/Bob really is a con man with a heart of gold. He falls in love with his long con target Cat Thatcher, while simultaneously falling...

Though 'Dallas' is long gone, its influence lingers on across network television -- but no new series embodies the spirit of the Ewings quite as pervasively as 'Lone Star,' which creator Kyle Killen reportedly pitched as "'Dallas' without the cheese."
Charismatic James Wolk (who looks like the genetically engineered love-child of Kyle Chandler and George Clooney, good golly!) plays con-man Robert Allen, who is living two separate lives with two separate women in two different cities. In Midland, he lives with naive girlfriend Lindsay (Eloise Mumford) while bilking local investors out of their money, and in Houston, he's married to Cat (Adrianne Palicki) daughter of a wealthy oil magnate (played by Jon Voight). Through it all, his con-man father and mentor John (David Keith) is pulling the strings and trying to draw him into another con.
Highlights from the panel follow after the jump.

HollywoodNews.com: Talk about out with the old, in with the new! In the last few days, Adrianne Palicki has 1) played her final scene as Tyra Colette on “Friday Night Lights,” 2) joined in a cast and crew wrap party for the acclaimed show, and 3) flown to Dallas in time to begin production on her new series – Fox’s “Lone Star” – this week.
Adrianne tells us she’s glad for the immediate turn-around between the series. It keeps her from getting too down about saying goodbye to a show and cast she’s loved. According to her, creator Peter Berg and all of the original cast members of “Friday Night Lights” planned to be on hand for the farewell gathering, which she anticipated as “a good occasion for all of us. It was such a beautiful thing to be a part of.”

Voight Invests In Technology To Chat With Grandkids
Movie veteran Jon Voight is relying on technology to stay in contact with his globe-trotting grandkids while shooting his new TV show in Texas.
The Deliverance star recently reconciled with his daughter Angelina Jolie following an eight-year estrangement, and he is just getting to know the actress' six-strong brood of adopted and biological children.
And Voight, who will soon relocate from Los Angeles to Texas to film new series Lonestar, is determined not to miss another moment of his family growing up - he is having internet phone system Skype installed to stay in contact with Jolie and her family.
He tells People.com, "It's hard for me to be away from my grandkids, yes, but I'll stay in touch with them. Thank God we have this technology, and you know, we use all of it.

Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt own homes all over the world and recently spent several months living in Venice, Italy while the actress filmed scenes for her new movie The Tourist.

Whether it's the depleted Americana represented in the chesterfield brown bungalow that the title character from Hesher decides to make his temporary shelter, or the knowledge of what makes for a cubicle layout of an office space easily filmable in (500) Days of Summer, it takes an architecturally sound understanding, a strong know how for the aesthetic described on the pages of a script to make Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character's dwellings into life size representations of the world he inhibits. Production Designer Laura Fox has now made a place for herself in what I could call the medium to high-end budgeted sized indie projects. Big-time movie actresses have been defecting to television for years now for one reason: because it offers juicier female roles. See: Glenn Close, Mary Louise Parker, Holly Hunter, Toni Collette, Kyra Sedgwick, Sally Field, Jada Pinkett Smith, Kathy Bates, Sissy Spacek, and, in the near future, Laura Linney (Showtime’s The Big C, premiering next month) and Diane Keaton (HBO’s Tilda, now in the pilot stages). The exodus first began with Sedgwick, Close, and Hunter thanks to sheer mathematics: An astronomical increase in original series on cable meant more roles, period, so chances were some of them would be interesting women.
