Writer-director Jennifer Reeder added, “I’m not done with her, now that I’ve got her close. I keep promising to make more films with her, which we will absolutely do. Maybe ‘Batgirl.'”
Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck appear as two versions of Batman in the upcoming multiverse movie “The Flash,” opening the door to numerous iterations of the same characters. Inequality is exposed in a series of interviews with schoolkids in a heartbreaking doc that echoes Abbas Kiarostami’s documentary Homework
A cheeky-faced boy of seven or eight is asked what he would wish for. “A big bike and a balloon that never bursts!” he replies with a huge grin, tickled with his answer. Another boy around the same age, more shabbily dressed and serious looking, is asked what life is about. He chews his bottom lip: “Life is something that is filled with difficulty.” This often heartbreaking, painful documentary from Ashkan Nejati and Mehran Nematollahi has a simple premise: interviewing Iranian schoolkids to camera about their lives, school, homework and hopes for the future.
It’s a sequel of sorts to godfather of modern Iranian cinema Abbas Kiarostami’s 1989 documentary Homework, which put the same questions to children growing up in the shadow of the Iran-Iraq war. The new...

In 2010, I went to see Peter Wolf play an intimate set at Portland, Maine’s Port City Music Hall. At the time, I’d gotten deep into Wolf’s catalog after hearing J. May isn’t quite summer yet but it is usually time that the networks start wrapping up their newest shows and preparing for a relatively fallow summer period. Since HBO isn’t a network, it has no such business model. But May sees the winding down of some HBO blockbusters all the same.
While there are some notable new releases for HBO in May 2020, the bigger story might be the things that are ending. Westworld concludes its third season on May 3 while new series Run wraps up on May 24. Thankfully the film losses in May aren’t too bad for HBO, unless the Agent Cody Banks saga drives a lot of traffic.
The most notable TV premiere in May is I Know This Much is True, a book adaptation starring Mark Ruffalo. This is a very bleak story coming along at a bleak time in history but perhaps those two things will cancel out.

The McU isn’t planning on slowing down with the character introductions any time soon, as the already crowded cinematic universe is now exploring bringing Spider-Woman into the mix. And according to our sources, the studio already have an actress in mind to take over the role.
We’re being told that American Horror Story star Emma Roberts is being eyed to play the superhero on the big screen. There’s even a chance she might debut in Spider-Man 3, though nothing is certain as of yet and from what we understand, she’s just one name on Marvel’s wishlist at the moment. And given that this intel comes to us from the same sources who said the studio is eyeing Daniel Radcliffe for Moon Knight and Tom Holland is in talks for a Venom 2 cameo, both of which we now know to be true, we’ve no reason to doubt it.

A Freddie Highmore-written half hour dark comedy series called “Homesick” has been sold to TBS and is currently in the early stages of development, TheWrap has learned.
The project comes from Sony Pictures TV and Highmore’s production banner Alfresco Pictures.
Highmore will executive produce and co-write with James Mitchell, on whose personal experiences the series is based. Mitchell will also serve as a co-executive producer.
According to TBS, “‘Homesick’ explores the themes of mental health, body image, toxic masculinity, and what it means to defy “normal” expectations of gender. It chronicles the dysfunctional relationship between a self-destructive twenty-something, secretly suffering from an eating disorder, and his mother, a raging narcissist and a total enabler who also happens to be his best friend in the world (for better or worse).”

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American rights for Ralph Fiennes’ film “The White Crow,” the studio said on Monday.
The film, based on the book “Rudolf Nureyev: The Life” by Julie Kavanaugh, was directed by Fiennes and written by Oscar-nominated David Hare. Along with North America, Sony nabbed rights to distribute the film in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Asia, and Benelux.
“The White Crow” captures the physicality and brilliance of ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev, whose escape to the West stunned the world at the height of the Cold War. Gavin Wiesen’s follow up to his Sundance hit “The Art of Getting By” is being released March 24 on VOD and is titled “All Nighter”. The comedy centers around a workaholic father (J.K. Simmons) who attempts to visit his daughter (Analeigh Tipton) during a layover in La, only to discover that she's disappeared, forcing him to team up with her awkward ex-boyfriend (Emile Hirsch) in order to find her over the course of one transformative night. “All Nighter” marks Wiesen’s second collaboration with composer Alec Puro as Puro also scored “The Art of Getting By”. We had a chance to briefly talk with Puro about everything from the scoring process for “All Nighter” to what type of project he would like to score next. Fans...

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out. And if you're into box office and how movies might do, come play some of the box office games at EZ1 Productions including their new Pick 5 game!
This Past Weekend:
As expected, Legendary Pictures’ Kong: Skull Island won the weekend, and honestly, the Weekend Warrior’s original prediction of $61.6 million was pretty darn close to the movie’s opening weekend which ended up at $61 million. (Unfortunately, I chickened out on Thursday because my prediction was so much higher than all others and lowered it to $58 million, which was Still closer to than every other prediction last weekend.) Also, as expected (at least by me), Hugh Jackman’s Logan took a 2nd weekend tumble as has been the case with most X-Men movies,...

Before we get to see J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon in “Justice League,” he’ll do some investigating in the comedy “All Nighter.” The first trailer for the film introduces viewers to Simmon’s character Mr. Gallo, a globe-trotting businessman who goes in search of his missing daughter.
The clip begins with Simmons meeting his daughter Ginnie’s (Annaleigh Tipton) awkward boyfriend, Martin (Emile Hirsch), who plays the banjo and spills a drink all over him. Cut to six months later and he finds out Ginnie is missing after he visits her boyfriend’s place and discovers that she broke up with him. The story continues as the two go in search of her, forced to get along, but forming an unlikely friendship along the way.
The cast is rounded out by Taran Killam, Kristen Schaal, Jon Daly and Shannon Woodward. The film is directed by “The Art of Getting By...

"This is not a movie, this is life." The first trailer has debuted for an indie comedy titled All Nighter, the second feature from director Gavin Wiesen, who last directed a film titled Homework (which was retitled to The Art of Getting By). All Nighter stars J.K. Simmons as a workaholic father who decides to visit his daughter in La, only to discover she's missing. He find her ex-boyfriend and ends up searching for her with him. Emile Hirsch is the ex, a banjo-playing goofball. The full cast includes Analeigh Tipton, Kristen Schaal, Taran Killam and Stephanie Allynne. This looks like a wild night of fun, I just hope it's good. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Gavin Wiesen's All Nighter, originally from Yahoo: A workaholic father who attempts to visit his daughter during a layover in La, only to discover that she's disappeared, is forced to team...

A dramedy that the Duplass bros. were originally looking to add to their film canon, it’s Sundance habitual Jeffrey Blitz who would pick up with torch for a project that would also coincidentally see him reteam with his Rocket Science starlet Anna Kendrick. We’re thinking that after having his entire filmography in Spellbound (2002), Rocket Science (2007) and Lucky (2010) play out in Park City that this might be a fourth time’s a charm. Also starring Craig Robinson, Lisa Kudrow, Stephen Merchant, Tony Revolori, June Squibb, Wyatt Russell and Amanda Crew, filming on the Atlanta set Fox Searchlight production began last March. We’re assuming that the trimmings and cutlery on Table 19 are more than ready.

This week saw a number of sad losses in the entertainment industry. The singers of both “Louie Louie” and “Stand by Me” passed away this week, as well as Oscar-nominated screenwriter Don Mankiewicz, who was nominated for I Want to Live! Mankiewicz was the son of Herman J. Mankiewicz (Citizen Kane) and the nephew of Joseph L. Mankiewicz (All About Eve), and the father of John Mankiewicz (House of Cards). He was 93.
But perhaps most shocking was the loss of cinematographer Andrew Lesnie, who died suddenly this week at just 59 years old. Lesnie won an Oscar for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and he subsequently filmed all five of the remaining Lotr films and Peter Jackson’s King Kong and The Lovely Bones. Some of his more interesting credits are his work on Babe and Babe: Pig in the City. Lesnie’s last film however...

At just 23, Emma Roberts (“It's Kind of a Funny Story,” “The Art of Getting By,” “Celeste and Jesse Forever”) is about the same age her aunt Julia was when she shot to stardom with the iconic hit “Pretty Woman.” But times have changed, and in Emma’s latest rom-com — Scott Coffey’s “Adult World,” which premiered last year at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival — she plays not a hooker with a heart of gold, but a virginal Syracuse graduate. Roberts is Amy, a post-collegiate aspiring poet who lives in snowy upstate New York with her parents; what she lacks in life experience she makes up for in pluck and aspiration. Her inability to be self-sufficient will feel familiar to a lot of 20-somethings, as today’s economy has created a state of delayed adulthood; coming-of-age so rarely happens at 18 anymore. When Amy’s parents pull the financial plug on her dreams...

History has taught us that the transition from child star to adult actor is one of Hollywood's toughest professional hurdles, but Emma Roberts is making that evolution look effortless with wonderfully complex roles in It's Kind of a Funny Story, Scream 4, The Art of Getting By and Celeste & Jesse. Although it seems that those projects were simply set-ups for her greatest performance to date: as the wickedly wonderful Madison Montgomery on American Horror Story: Coven.
From her first vitriol-laced barb, it was clear that both the actress and her creation were not to be trifled with. Subsequent episodes have given Emma room to evolve Madison into more than your garden variety bitch as she's slyly infused all of her most venomous moments with an unmistakable insecurity and breathed luxurious lethargy into Madison's recent resurrection.

TMZ has learned that 22-year-old Emma Roberts (Scream 4, The Art of Getting By), the daughter of Eric Roberts and niece of Julia Roberts, has been arrested for domestic violence in Canada. Roberts was taken into custody in Montreal after getting into an argument with her boyfriend, Evan Peters (Kick-Ass), and then punching him in the nose. After receiving a complaint from a neighbor, police arrived to see that Peters had a bloody nose and a bite mark. As a result, Roberts was immediately arrested, but released hours later because Peters did not want to press charges.

Freddie Highmore has grown up before our eyes. He starred opposite Johnny Depp twice, first in his breakthrough role in Finding Neverland and later as Charlie Bucket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and then he played a young music prodigy in the sentimental tearjerker August Rush. A few years ago, while beginning his studies in both Arabic and Spanish at Cambridge, he filmed the 2011 Sundance entry The Art of Getting By (formerly Homework) opposite Emma Roberts, a performance that caught the eye of Vera Farmiga, with whom he currently stars in A&E’s Bates Motel (premiering tonight at ten). Vulture recently chatted with Highmore, who just turned 21, about playing a young Norman Bates, filming atop an old dump in Vancouver, and why the comparisons to Twin Peaks are exactly right. (Minor spoilers about the pilot within!)My most vivid memory of you is from quite a while ago.

On Monday, March 18th, A&E is taking you back to where it all began with Bates Motel. I have to tell you, because I can’t get this idea to stop flashing in my mind, this is not at all what I would have predicted for either Vera Farmiga or Freddie Highmore. I’m a fan of both them, and looking through a list that includes – Up in the Air, Higher Ground, Source Code, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Spiderwick Chronicles, and The Art of Getting By – does not lend itself to the idea that the natural progression of your CV is going to include a supremely raw and gritty psychopath story.
As you can imagine (and certainly one of the key tune-in draws), since you know where we are ending up, the teen years are probably going to be pretty rough for Norman Bates. Not only...

If Andrew Levitas does crack the Sundance line-up, the trade headlines will mention his skill-set inventory (read his wiki page). In the film world, Levitas moved from acting to producing (The Art of Getting By, At Any Price) to his first gig which started filming this past June in New York City and which has been in post since August. The drought between his debut and sophomore will come to an end in 2013. A full eight years since Ellie Parker (Sundance ’05), which was based on the short of the same name (Sundance ’01), Scott Coffey’s Adult World was shot in Syracuse, NY back in February with a trio that includes Emma Roberts (who attends the fest yearly in four back to back years with The Winning Season, Twelve, The Art of Getting By, Celeste & Jesse Forever), Evan Peters and John Cusack. Wolf Parade frontman Dan Boeckner scored the comedy which I think Sundance programmers might want to include because it fits a certain niche demographic that they like to sample yearly.

Rising young star Emma Roberts (The Art of Getting By) takes the lead in upcoming comedy, Adult World, which sees director Scott Coffey (Ellie Parker) making his sophomore feature behind the camera.

Just when you thought you couldn’t be any more excited for the return of “Arrested Development,” Mitch Hurwitz goes ahead and casts Isla Fisher and Terry Crews. There’s no news on who they’ll be playing, whose episodes they will be in, or even how many episodes they’ll be in, but we’re excited by their involvment nonetheless. They’re both people we really like who know how to be funny, and if the show’s track-record is anything to go by, we’re sure they’ll be given brilliantly bizarre guest roles. Freddie Highmore was the go-to loveable child lead not so long ago, starring in “Finding Neverland,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “August Rush” and even “The Spiderwick Chronicles” as recently as 2008. The small, dimpled-face rascal Freddie Highmore aims to subvert his previous screen personality by playing the infamous character Norman Bates. Bates was famously portrayed by Antony Perkins in Hitchcock’s Psycho (and a few banal sequels) as well as Vince Vaughn in the awful shot-by-shot remake. The latest presentation of Bates will be structured around a new A&E television series, Bates Motel. The programme is a prequel to Hitchcock’s film and is based around the relationship between Norman and his mother Norma (played by Vera Farmiga).

Principal photography is underway on New Line Cinema's action comedy We're the Millers, starring Jennifer Aniston (Horrible Bosses) and Jason Sudeikis (The Campaign). The film is directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story).
David Burke (Sudeikis) is a small-time pot dealer whose clientele includes chefs and soccer moms, but no kids-after all, he has his scruples. So what could go wrong? Plenty. Preferring to keep a low profile for obvious reasons, he learns the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished when he tries to help out some local teens and winds up getting jumped by a trio of gutter punks. Stealing his stash and his cash, they leave him in major debt to his supplier, Brad (Ed Helms).
In order to wipe the slate clean-and maintain a clean bill of health-David must now become a big-time drug smuggler by bringing Brad's latest shipment in from Mexico.

Kyle Chandler, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Bob Odenkirk, and Andre Royo have joined James Ponsoldt's indie flick The Spectacular Now. The quartet of talented actors has joined a rapidly expanding cast that also includes Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller, Brie Larson, Kaitlyn Dever, Masam Holden, and Dayo Okeniyi. The coming-of-age story is based on the novel by Tim Tharp, and follows a live-for-the-moment high school senior (Teller) who develops a relationship with a "mercurial introvert" (Woodley). At first, it sounds like the painful garbage of stuff like The Art of Getting By and Restless, but then the synopsis gets interesting: "As their relationship deepens, the lines between right and wrong, friendship and love, saving and corrupting, become inextricably blurred." It sounds like this movie could go to some dark, interesting places that quirky coming-of-age indies avoid like the plague. Then again, screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber's (500) Days of Summer was twee beyond belief,...

Craig Zobel, the promising writer-director who made “Great World of Sound” in 2007, returns to the big screen with his deeply unsettling second feature, the fictional account of a real incident in which a caller impersonating a police officer contacted a fast food restaurant manager and enlisted her in enacting a sexual assault under the pretense of a criminal investigation. Put your money where your mouth is, Emma Roberts!
The actress does just that in her latest collaboration with celebrity photographer Tyler Shields. Inspired by the multi-talented artist's latest novel, "Richest Man," Shields photographed Roberts literally chomping on $100,000.
In the set, "The Art of Getting By" actress is pictured wearing a black strapless minidress in various states of abandon with the mega-wad of cash -- fanning herself with the bills, throwing them in the air and then eating the green stack.
This isn't the first time Roberts has struck a pose for the controversial photographer. She was previously snapped posing with a teddy bear, covering herself with birthday cake and crying silver tears for Shields, who recently appeared on girlfriend Francesca Eastwood's new reality show, "Mrs. Eastwood & Company."
If you come across a $100 bill with red lipstick marks, you know where it came from.
