Trap was one of my favorite movies of last year. Every moment of the film was riveting, watching as a serial killer and his daughter tried to escape a sting operation. Unfortunately, not everyone agreed, with some people finding it too off-putting and the Academy members not having any room in their hearts to nominate it for their precious Oscars.

M. Night Shyamalan, director of Trap, was shut out of Hollywood for a while. He had to fund Split himself after backlash from an admittedly disappointing streak of films, which included The Last Airbender. However, Trap is one of his best, and I think it's time to admit that.

Amazon is final talks to assign the James Bond franchise’s license to thrill to not one but two producers.

Former studio head turned producer Amy Pascal and Harry Potter producer David Heyman are in talks to oversee and run the storied British spy franchise for Amazon, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.

Amazon had no comment on the deal.

The move comes as the tech retailer and streamer tries to close a deal to take over creative control from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the producers whose family has been producing 007 movies since the 1960s.

Bond was a key, perhaps, the key, reason Amazon acquired MGM/UA and its library for $8.45 billion in 2021. But Broccoli and Wilson, via their company Eon, retained a significant amount of control over Bond, including when to pull the Walther Ppk trigger on the next movie. Thus, the company then reportedly paid upwards...

Pascal and Heyman are just in talks at the moment, as the deal reported last month between Amazon MGM and the Broccolis is still being finalized. Amazon MGM had no comment.

DC Studios started working on a Sgt. Rock movie in November 2024, with Luca Guadagnino as the director and Daniel Craig originally set to star. The film is based on the DC Comics character created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, who first appeared in Our Army at War in 1959.

Sgt. Franklin John Rock is a highly skilled World War II soldier known for his sharpshooting and grenade-throwing abilities. The character recently appeared in the Dcu animated series Creature Commandos, voiced by Maury Sterling.

Soon after the announcement, it’s been rumored that Daniel Craig passed on the role but Peter Safran and James Gunn clarified that Craig was never officially involved. Yesterday afternoon, the news broke that The Penguin star Colin Farrell is in talks to play the title character in DC Studios' Sgt. Rock movie. Daniel Craig had been eyed by filmmaker Luca Guadagnino for his next feature but ultimately passed.

That wouldn't be the first time the former 007 has missed out on a superhero role as he was supposed to suit up as Thor's brother, Balder, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' Illuminati sequence.

Back to Farrell, and the response to him pulling double duty in the Dcu as Sgt. Rock and The Penguin in Matt Reeves' Bat-verse has been a little mixed. There have also been questions about whether this casting will have an impact on The Batman Part II, a movie many believe will never happen at this rate.

Colin Farrell is in talks to star in in Luca Guadagnino’s “Sgt. Rock” movie at DC Studios, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.

The script is written by Justin Kuritzkes, who previously wrote “Challengers” and “Queer” for Guadagnino. The film is expected to be a period piece set during World War II.

Sgt. Rock is one of DC Comics’ most famous military characters and is the leader of Easy Company. Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, he first appeared in 1959’s “Our Army at War” before getting his own series in 1977 that ran for 11 years.

With Japan emerging as one of its largest markets outside of the U.S., Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, and Kelly Day, VP of international for Prime Video, outlined their ambitious vision for the streaming service in the region in an exclusive interview with Variety. “We’re very committed to a strong pipeline for customers in Japan. There's good news for Christian Bale fans this month, with one of his best films getting a new streaming home. American Psycho arrives on Paramount+ on March 31.

Bale's career took off after his portrayal of the serial killer Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. My relationship with the Oscars almost feels like one of those bad habits I cannot break. More than a handful of times, I have concluded for my own sake and sanity that I was done taking the Academy seriously. With a wave of anticipation, it faced the Academy Awards with its five nominations—Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, and Best Sound.

Dune: Part Two didn’t just walk into the 2025 Oscars—it marched in with its head held high.

Move over, Walt Disney. Anora filmmaker Sean Baker made Oscar history on Sunday night, becoming the first person to win four Oscars in one night for the same project.

Baker won Best Picture (as a producer), Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing for the Neon film. He was favored to win all of them except editing, where Anora was second in the odds to Conclave, the BAFTA winner. Due to the L.A. wildfires in January, the Ace Eddie Awards were moved to March 14, so the only major editing precursors were the BAFTAs and the Critics Choice Awards, which crowned the Oscar-snubbed Challengers. Last month, Anora won the top guild prizes at the Producers Guild of America, Directors Guild of America, and Writers Guild of America Awards.

Baker joins Disney as the only other person to win a record four Oscars in one night.

Despite Dune Part 2 winning multiple awards at the 2025 Oscars, Zendaya was nowhere to be found. While one of her movies was nominated, another was not nominated at all. Her film, Challengers, was snubbed. Although she has not confirmed this is why she didn’t attend, it’s the most logical reason. The actress is also currently filming Season 3 of Euphoria and is gearing up for Christopher Nolan‘s movie The Odyssey. Not to mention, she recently got engaged to her Spider-Man costar, Tom Holland, so she could be busy wedding planning. Zendaya was not nominated for Best Actress for Challengers, and the film did not nab a Best Score nomination, despite receiving widespread acclaim. Challengers received four Golden Globe nominations and took home the award for Best Original Score. Dune Part II received five Oscar nominations, including Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, and Best Picture.

The Oscar winner for Best Original Song, as predicted by Gold Derby's odds, was "El Mal" from Emilia Pérez. It was written by Camille and Clément Ducol, who also composed the film's score, and the film's director, Jacques Audiard. It's the first Oscar win for all three songwriters. Unfortunately, that meant a 16th loss for Diane Warren, who was nominated for penning "The Journey" from The Six Triple Eight and to date still hasn't won a competitive Oscar.

This year's Oscar race started at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards last fall, and it was a good night for Emilia Pérez, which won Best Music Themed Film, Biopic, or Musical; Best Song — Onscreen Performance (for Zoe Saldaña singing "El Mal"); and Best Score — Feature Film. However, "El Mal" didn't win Best Song - Feature Film. That was Warren for "The Journey," while "Never Too Late" was named the best song from a documentary.

Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation has released the first teaser for the highly anticipated Shrek 5, confirming the returns of Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Fiona - as well as confirming that  Zendaya (Spider-Man: No Way Home; Dune: Part Two; Challengers) has indeed joined the voice cast as Shrek and Fiona's daughter Felicia.

Plot details remain under wraps for now and there's also no word on who's going to be lending their voices to her siblings Fergus and Farkle.

Franchise veterans Walt Dohrn (Trolls; Trolls World Tour; Trolls Band Together) and Conrad Vernon (Monsters vs. Aliens; Sausage Party; The Addams Family) have been tapped to direct, with Brad Ableson (Minions: The Rise of Gru) serving as co-director, while Michael McCullers (Austin Powers in Goldmember; Baby Mama; The Boss Baby) penned the script.

From blockbuster franchises like Spider-Man and Dune to critical darlings like Challengers, Zendaya is at the top of her game. And with the arrival of the first teaser trailer for Shrek 5, the actress has kept that momentum going with the bombshell that she will be joining the cast as the titular ogre’s daughter.

In the clip, she appears alongside Shrek himself (Mike Myers), Fiona (Cameron Diaz), and Donkey (Eddie Murphy), as the gang scrolls through TikTok-esque Shrek memes. Watch the full Shrek 5 teaser trailer below.

Shrek 5 is currently slated for a December 23rd, 2026 release. It’ll mark the first film in the mainline Shrek series since 2010’s Shrek Forever After. Universal and DreamWorks Animation have not yet revealed plot details, but if we had to guess, maybe it’ll be about Shrek’s daughter navigating a tennis-themed love triangle set to a Trent Reznor soundtrack.

The mononymous, in-demand actor has joined “Shrek 5” as Felicia, the daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz).

Universal and DreamWorks, the studios behind the animated adventure set in the land of Far, Far Away, released a teaser along with the updated casting news. In the clip, Shrek’s trustee sidekick Donkey (Eddie Murphy) asks: “Hey Magic Mirror, who’s the fairest of them all?”

Magic Mirror, you know, the one from “Snow White,” responds: “Why Shrek! Of course.”

But this Magic Mirror appears to have a distinctly 21st century twist, allowing the green ogre to swap between various Gen Z-ified looks at Shrek. This prompts very different reactions from Felicia and Fiona as Shrek raises the question of the hour: “Who is making this stuff?” Just then, Pinocchio pops up to tell a nose-growing lie, declaring “Not me!”

Shrek 5 has landed a star that may make other franchises green with envy.

Zendaya has joined the venerable animated film series as the daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz). She also joins Eddie Murphie, the voice of Donkey.

Zendaya is one of the most in-demand stars working today, with her upcoming schedule including Dune: Messiah, the fourth Spider-Man movie and Euphoria season three. Last year, she starred in Challengers, the well-regarded tennis drama from Luca Guadagnino, as well as Dune: Part Two. Her presence in Shrek 5 gives extra vibrancy to the 25-year-old franchise and could help bring new audiences to the fold.

The feature has a Dec. 23, 2026 release date from Universal and DreamWorks Animation, and is the first in the main series since 2010’s Shrek Forever After.
