Trap was one of my favorite movies of last year. Every moment of the film was riveting, watching as a serial killer and his daughter tried to escape a sting operation. Unfortunately, not everyone agreed, with some people finding it too off-putting and the Academy members not having any room in their hearts to nominate it for their precious Oscars.
M. Night Shyamalan, director of Trap, was shut out of Hollywood for a while. He had to fund Split himself after backlash from an admittedly disappointing streak of films, which included The Last Airbender. However, Trap is one of his best, and I think it's time to admit that.
'Trap' Is the Greatest Thriller of 2024
There were certainly some exciting thrillers in 2024. It was interesting watching Naomi Ackie escape rich male abusers in Blink Twice, or Taron Egerton channel John McClane in Carry-On. That being said, I easily...

Amazon is final talks to assign the James Bond franchise’s license to thrill to not one but two producers.
Former studio head turned producer Amy Pascal and Harry Potter producer David Heyman are in talks to oversee and run the storied British spy franchise for Amazon, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.
Amazon had no comment on the deal.
The move comes as the tech retailer and streamer tries to close a deal to take over creative control from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the producers whose family has been producing 007 movies since the 1960s.
Bond was a key, perhaps, the key, reason Amazon acquired MGM/UA and its library for $8.45 billion in 2021. But Broccoli and Wilson, via their company Eon, retained a significant amount of control over Bond, including when to pull the Walther Ppk trigger on the next movie. James Bond has some new caretakers. Former Sony Pictures chief and producer of the “Spider-Man” and “Spider-Verse” films Amy Pascal and “Harry Potter” and “Gravity” producer David Heyman are being eyed to oversee the 007 franchise for Amazon MGM Studios with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson ceding control, IndieWire has learned.
Pascal and Heyman are just in talks at the moment, as the deal reported last month between Amazon MGM and the Broccolis is still being finalized. Amazon MGM had no comment.
Amazon MGM on February 20 announced it was forming a new joint venture to house the James Bond IP, with the studio obtaining creative control of the franchise. Broccoli has been the main caretaker of the franchise’s direction for decades, along with her half-brother Wilson.

Amy Pascal and David Heyman may be enlisted to help Amazon MGM Studios oversee the James Bond franchise, Variety has confirmed. The pair are described as being “in talks.” No deal can be signed, however, until the streamer finalizes its pact to buy creative control from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the producers whose family has overseen all things 007 for decades.
Pascal, the former head of Sony, has reinvented herself as one of the industry’s most successful producers since she left that job in 2015. DC Studios started working on a Sgt. Rock movie in November 2024, with Luca Guadagnino as the director and Daniel Craig originally set to star. The film is based on the DC Comics character created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, who first appeared in Our Army at War in 1959.
Sgt. Franklin John Rock is a highly skilled World War II soldier known for his sharpshooting and grenade-throwing abilities. The character recently appeared in the Dcu animated series Creature Commandos, voiced by Maury Sterling.
Soon after the announcement, it’s been rumored that Daniel Craig passed on the role but Peter Safran and James Gunn clarified that Craig was never officially involved. He explained that Craig’s name was considered because he had worked with director Luca Guadagnino on Queer, but no meetings ever took place.

From Conan O’Brien’s hosting to Indie and original releases’ dominance, this year’s Oscars was received pretty well among the film community, at least for the most part. The Emilia Pérez movie, which has been at the center of controversy since nabbing four Golden Globe wins, caused a massive uproar after landing a whopping 13 nods at the Oscars.

Although the film did end up losing in most categories, including Best Picture and Best International Picture, some felt Karla Sofía Gascón’s resurfaced tweets might’ve contributed to the Academy voters’ final verdict. But even if this wasn’t the case, Netflix head Ted Sarandos wasn’t completely assured if the film would’ve been a slam dunk hit at the Oscars otherwise.

Yesterday afternoon, the news broke that The Penguin star Colin Farrell is in talks to play the title character in DC Studios' Sgt. Rock movie. Daniel Craig had been eyed by filmmaker Luca Guadagnino for his next feature but ultimately passed.
That wouldn't be the first time the former 007 has missed out on a superhero role as he was supposed to suit up as Thor's brother, Balder, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' Illuminati sequence.
Back to Farrell, and the response to him pulling double duty in the Dcu as Sgt. Rock and The Penguin in Matt Reeves' Bat-verse has been a little mixed. There have also been questions about whether this casting will have an impact on The Batman Part II, a movie many believe will never happen at this rate.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sgt. Rock is expected to shoot in England this summer.

If you’re a fan of movies and television, you’ve probably heard the names Colin Farrell and Luca Guadagnino a whole bunch in recent years. Now, the two seem like they’re bound to collaborate on a new Sgt. Rock movie for DC Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The news follows reports from late last year that Daniel Craig was circling the role, though DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran confirmed last month that no official offer was ever extended to the former James Bond actor. Should a deal finalize between Farrell and the studio, the film is expected to shoot this summer in England.
Farrell is no stranger to DC properties, as he portrayed The Penguin in both Matt Reeves’ The Batman and in the eponymous HBO series The Penguin. For Guadagnino, however, the flick will mark his first foray into comic book movies. The...

If at first you don't succeed with one name-brand actor, well, just try again with another. For some reason, DC has been trying to make comic book character Sgt. Rock happen for quite some time now. Early reports date back to the early 2000s, first with Arnold Schwarzenegger attached for the role of the gruff title character before director Guy Ritchie began circling the project in 2008. The WWII soldier ended up on the backburner when those plans fell apart over the years, only to get resurrected in the most bizarre (but strangely compelling) way imaginable. When last we heard, none other than "Queer" filmmaker Luca Guadagnino and actor Daniel Craig were set to reunite on -- and lend their combined star power to -- a "Sgt. Rock" film under James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios. If that seemed too good to be true, well, that's exactly what it...

Colin Farrell is in talks to star in in Luca Guadagnino’s “Sgt. Rock” movie at DC Studios, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
The script is written by Justin Kuritzkes, who previously wrote “Challengers” and “Queer” for Guadagnino. The film is expected to be a period piece set during World War II.
Sgt. Rock is one of DC Comics’ most famous military characters and is the leader of Easy Company. Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, he first appeared in 1959’s “Our Army at War” before getting his own series in 1977 that ran for 11 years.
Daniel Craig was previously circling the role, but never got an offer according to DC Studio chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. DC Studios is planning to shoot the movie this summer in the United Kingdom.

Colin Farrell may be double-dipping in the DC Universe. “The Penguin” star is circling the lead in “Sgt. Rock,” a comic book adaptation from Luca Guadagnino.
Daniel Craig was eyed for the role, but the actor never formally committed to the movie before he dropped out of consideration in February.
In the comics, Sgt. Rock is a World War II hero and combat fighter. There have been attempts to bring the character to the screen over the years with actors like Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, but those films never came to pass.
This attempt is expected to begin shooting this summer in England. Justin Kuritzkes, who previously wrote “Challengers” and “Queer” for Guadagnino, is penning the “Sgt. Rock” screenplay. Due to the Los Angeles wildfires, the 75th American Cinema Editors gala was delayed from Jan. 18 to March 14, nearly two weeks after the Academy Awards. If you think Zendaya’s Challengers is the hottest tennis drama, think again! Because, nearly 20 years ago, Scarlett Johansson came and conquered the genre alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The duo had set the screen on fire in director Woody Allen’s steamy thriller Match Point (2005).

Timothée Chalamet is everywhere right now, from Oscar-nominated performances to red carpets and new major hit films, but his fame didn’t start with glitzy Hollywood premieres. No, it actually started quite the opposite. Around this time last year, America caught a raging case of Challengers fever. The film, from Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino, portrays a trio of aspiring pro tennis players — pals Patrick (Josh O’Connor) and Art (Mike Faist) and Tashi (Zendaya) — jumping around in time from their frisky late teens to their resigned thirties with several stops in between. To reduce a gripping thriller to a gross oversimplification: everyone is in love with everyone else, and the sexy possibilities made it a meme overnight. What those memes acknowledged was what the movie boldly states: any love triangle is less interesting than three hot characters just getting it on together.
Since Fox’s Thursday night comedies premiered their latest seasons back in January — Season Three for Animal Control, and Season One for Going Dutch — both have seemed like they learned the lessons of Challengers. But did they really? These...

Our recent review of “Opus” may very well leave some of you looking to a list ranking the “best A24 movies” as a sweet bout of hypocrisy; the fandom surrounding the distributor has been well-documented and thoroughly lambasted, so what purpose is served exactly by compiling a list of the best films that just so happen to have been acquired by a specific group of New York millennials tapped into meme culture? In examining the films that have garnered the studio such status, though, it’s not impossible to envision certain patterns in these independent features that might have attracted those millennials to acquire these films in the first place—in essence, while there is no such thing as a style defined in an “A24 film,” there is certainly a particular breed of audacious art films that the studio prefers to platform with all their savvy marketing magic, to the mutual benefit of all involved.

Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are two of the best young actors in the business, and they recently teamed up for a new A24 movie. After rising to fame as Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies, Pattinson has completely reinvented himself with an array of independent dramas. This includes several collaborations with the indie studio A24, starring in the Safdie brothers' Good Time, Claire Denis' High Life, and Robert Eggers' The Lighthouse in consecutive years from 2017 to 2019, though he has also starred in other well-regarded movies including Tenet, The Batman, and the Boy and the Heron English dub.
Similarly, Zendaya started her career on the Disney Channel sitcoms Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover, but has also completely redefined herself as a dramatic actor. This started with her role as Rue, a struggling drug-addicted teenager, in the HBO drama Euphoria. She has so far won two Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actress for her performance,...

Mickey 17 star Robert Pattinson has a lineup of projects, including The Drama, alongside Zendaya. Kristoffer Borgli’s directorial has already raised expectations and excitement among the audience, and while we love to watch Pattinson onscreen, he often gets overwhelmed with scenes. In an interview, he opened up about a scene in The Drama that drove him crazy and only his co-star was able to calm him down.
We are all waiting with great anticipation to see Twilight star and Challengers actress together on the big screen. Sneak peeks of videos and photos from their project have already gone viral, leaving their fans in a frenzy. Even though there’s an age gap between the two actors, the chemistry is definitely chemistrying in the movie. For the unversed, they will also be seen together in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

No drama here. Robert Pattinson recently shared how his co-star Zendaya eased his overthinking as an actor. Pattinson, who co-stars with the “Challengers” actress in Kristoffer Borgli’s upcoming A24 film “The Drama,” told French publication Premiere that Zendaya made him less “crazy” amid his dissection of the script.
“The Drama” was announced in August 2024 and centers on a couple whose romance takes an unexpected turn before their wedding. Mamoudou Athie also stars.
“We had a scene together that was driving me crazy,” Pattinson said of filming the feature. “I was desperately looking for its meaning, writing pages and pages of textual analysis. I ended up calling Zendaya the night before shooting the scene. I shared my doubts with her, I spoke for two hours, and after a while, very calmly, she made me understand that the line just said what it meant to say, that there was no hidden meaning.

The funniest moments on film in 2024 didn’t just come from comedies — we still don’t know what genre Emilia Pérez was supposed to be.
Now that the 97th Academy Awards are finally out of the way, Film Twitter can move on to the real celebration of cinematic achievement as they select the best movie clips to populate group chats and Twitter threads until this year’s releases can supplant them. For many film buffs on the internet, finding the perfect reaction Gif in an Oscar-nominated movie is half the reason to watch every popular A24 release, especially for the proud AMC A-listers whose online communications are mostly limited to movie clip replies in popular Twitter threads and snarky, one-line Letterboxd reviews.

Red carpet styling can’t make a bad movie good, but it can make a good one hard to ignore. An attention-grabbing look can center a project in an elevated conversation that can drive box office, awards and, yes, clothing sales.
That’s because of stylists. Out of the hundreds of red carpet tastemakers working in Hollywood, the ones on this list — coincidentally THR’s 15th since debuting the franchise in 2011 — are selected based on several factors. Because this is The Hollywood Reporter, the star power of the clients the stylists work with, the aesthetics they present on the red carpet, and the influence they wield — note Law Roach and Zendaya getting the internet to obsess over every Challengers fit — are paramount. And let’s be honest: Saint Laurent received more attention from Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña on the red carpet than from actually producing Emilia Pérez, the film they were in.

People like to say, “It’s never too early” to do something, but that’s not always true. For example, it’s too early to predict next year’s Academy Awards before this year’s Academy Awards. But the 2025 Oscars are over, so now it’s time to start making predictions about what films will contend for the Oscars next year.
It’s already looking like the 98th Academy Awards will have a stronger field than the 97th. Blue chip filmmakers are returning from long breaks with exciting casts in tow. Each Safdie brother has their own A24 sports drama. There’s a new Avatar movie. It’s going to be an exciting, unpredictable year.
Here are 25 films likely to contend for 2026 Academy Award nominations in many different categories, not just Best Picture. Some of them are locks, some are long shots, and some will peter out entirely, replaced in...

There's good news for Christian Bale fans this month, with one of his best films getting a new streaming home. American Psycho arrives on Paramount+ on March 31.
Bale's career took off after his portrayal of the serial killer Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. The satirical black comedy film, based on the 1991 novel by Bret Easton Ellis, stars Bale as a New York City investment banker by day and serial killer by night. The film's ensemble cast included Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto and Reese Witherspoon. A commentary on yuppie culture and consumerism, American Psycho has become a cult classic in the years following its release.

Why Didn’t Zendaya attend Oscars 2025? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Over the years, Zendaya has ruled the red carpet with her unique and fashionable looks at every award ceremony. This year, she was missing from the Oscars crowd, and her absence was felt terribly. The 97th Academy Awards, which was held at the Dolby Theatres in Los Angeles on March 2, was a star-studded affair. However, Zendaya skipping the event soon became the talk of the town. Although her movie, Challengers, was shut out from the competition, her other film, Dune: Part Two, received a few nominations.
Dune: Part Two, in which she co-starred with Timothee Chalamet, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and others, won two awards at the Oscars for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects. Even then, the Euphoria actress didn’t attend the event, and while we don’t know the reason, we can guess that because of her tight schedule,...

The 97th Academy Awards have come and gone, and with it comes the end of awards season for now. After what might be the most controversial build up to awards season, courtesy of Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón's unsavory past tweets, The Brutalist being caught up in a confusing press storm on the use of A.I. in the editing process, and notable snubs of films like Challengers, Nosferatu, and Sing Sing. At the end of the evening, the credits started to roll on the Oscars, and it seemed like the most fun telecast in quite some time. Hollywood's biggest night ended with a 3.9 earthquake that might well have been the aftermath of the positive reaction to Anora winning Best Picture and host Conan O'Brien.

My relationship with the Oscars almost feels like one of those bad habits I cannot break. More than a handful of times, I have concluded for my own sake and sanity that I was done taking the Academy seriously. Yet, somehow, every year as the ceremony creeps closer, I tend to convince myself, and those around me, that this time will be different.
Despite my relatively cynical take on these things, one not entirely limited to the Oscars, I let myself get sucked back in, time and again. The absence of nominations for Challengers and All We Imagine as Light should have been the first red flag of this year, but I still held out some hope.
The most surprising part of the 97th Academy Awards, however, was that there weren’t that many surprises at all – or at least not the kind I was hoping for. Almost all of...

“Don’t stop believin’, hold on to that feelin’,” as Journey’s classic song goes. And in a way, that perfectly reflects the journey of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two. With a wave of anticipation, it faced the Academy Awards with its five nominations—Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, and Best Sound.
Yet, like a stage performer left out of the lead role, Villeneuve was glaringly absent from the Best Director category, sparking frustration and heartbreak from fans and fellow actors alike.

Move over, Walt Disney. Anora filmmaker Sean Baker made Oscar history on Sunday night, becoming the first person to win four Oscars in one night for the same project.
Baker won Best Picture (as a producer), Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing for the Neon film. He was favored to win all of them except editing, where Anora was second in the odds to Conclave, the BAFTA winner. Due to the L.A. wildfires in January, the Ace Eddie Awards were moved to March 14, so the only major editing precursors were the BAFTAs and the Critics Choice Awards, which crowned the Oscar-snubbed Challengers. Last month, Anora won the top guild prizes at the Producers Guild of America, Directors Guild of America, and Writers Guild of America Awards.

Despite Dune Part 2 winning multiple awards at the 2025 Oscars, Zendaya was nowhere to be found. While one of her movies was nominated, another was not nominated at all. Her film, Challengers, was snubbed. Although she has not confirmed this is why she didn’t attend, it’s the most logical reason. The actress is also currently filming Season 3 of Euphoria and is gearing up for Christopher Nolan‘s movie The Odyssey. Not to mention, she recently got engaged to her Spider-Man costar, Tom Holland, so she could be busy wedding planning. Zendaya was not nominated for Best Actress for Challengers, and the film did not nab a Best Score nomination, despite receiving widespread acclaim. Challengers received four Golden Globe nominations and took home the award for Best Original Score. Dune Part II received five Oscar nominations, including Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, and Best Picture.

The Oscar winner for Best Original Song, as predicted by Gold Derby's odds, was "El Mal" from Emilia Pérez. It was written by Camille and Clément Ducol, who also composed the film's score, and the film's director, Jacques Audiard. It's the first Oscar win for all three songwriters. Unfortunately, that meant a 16th loss for Diane Warren, who was nominated for penning "The Journey" from The Six Triple Eight and to date still hasn't won a competitive Oscar.
This year's Oscar race started at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards last fall, and it was a good night for Emilia Pérez, which won Best Music Themed Film, Biopic, or Musical; Best Song — Onscreen Performance (for Zoe Saldaña singing "El Mal"); and Best Score — Feature Film. However, "El Mal" didn't win Best Song - Feature Film. That was Warren for "The Journey," while "Never Too Late" was named the best song from a documentary.

Apart from Call Me By Your Name, awards voters rarely see anything worth celebrating in Luca Guadagnino's cinema. In some ways, this season seemed to be a change of pace on that front, with Challengers and Queer going into Oscar nomination morning with some hopes. Sadly, they both got blanked. And while the tennis melodrama was mostly vying for "below the line" honors, Queer had its sight set on a Best Actor nomination, the first piece of Academy Award recognition for the erstwhile Bond, Daniel Craig. Ultimately, the William S. Burroughs adaptation was probably too weird for AMPAS' tastes, but we're here to recognize a performance that's nothing if not Oscar-worthy…...

Here at Gold Derby, we traffic in data. We use numbers, odds, and statistics to predict awards. But when it comes to the Oscars, some statistics matter more.
Famously, the rates of milk consumption and divorce in Colorado have been shown to correlate closely in the past few years. But how much are they influencing each other? Probably not a whole lot.
So, when it comes to the Oscars, which stats are worth paying attention to? We will look at some common data points referenced by prognosticators and tell you which to consider when making your final Oscar picks.
To win Best Picture, you need a Best Director nomination
For a long time, a Best Director nomination was touted as a “must-have” for a film vying to win Best Picture. In the past few years, Best Picture contenders Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Trial of the Chicago 7 did not receive Best Director nominations,...

The 23rd edition of the Golden Schmoes voting period ended at midnight, and now we’ve got a full list of all of the winners chosen by our readers! The longest-running, fan-voted awards on the internet, the winners are always very interesting in that they reveal, in surprising ways, both the divide between fans and traditional voting bodies (like the Academy) and their similarities at times. This year, we didn’t have any record-breakers in terms of the most awarded films, with Deadpool & Wolverine earning 7 nods, while The Substance earned 5, and Dune: Part Two earned 4. The all-time champ for the most wins ever for The Golden Schmoes is still The Dark Knight, with 12 wins.
Both Dune: Part Two and The Substance are Academy favourites this year, while Deadpool & Wolverine was mostly overlooked. However, one movie that’s beloved by the Academy, Emilia Perez, was seemingly hated by our voters,...

2025 has just begun and so many movies have already made an impact on audiences. With the rise in horror movies like Companion and The Monkey and a new addition to the MCU, Captain America: Brave New World, 2025 has already solidified itself as a fascinating year for movies. Mirroring previous years in writing, direction, and overall cinematic spectacle, 2025 promises a variety of films that will inspire audiences for years to come.
It's usually assumed that films released in the earlier months of the year may not capture as much attention or acclaim as later releases. This has been disproved with 2024 releases Dune: Part Two, released on March 1, and Challengers, released on April 26. As the Winter months dwindle and Spring brings about warm weather and new releases, movie-goers are excited to see this lineup of films appear on the big screen.

Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation has released the first teaser for the highly anticipated Shrek 5, confirming the returns of Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Fiona - as well as confirming that Zendaya (Spider-Man: No Way Home; Dune: Part Two; Challengers) has indeed joined the voice cast as Shrek and Fiona's daughter Felicia.
Plot details remain under wraps for now and there's also no word on who's going to be lending their voices to her siblings Fergus and Farkle.
Franchise veterans Walt Dohrn (Trolls; Trolls World Tour; Trolls Band Together) and Conrad Vernon (Monsters vs. Aliens; Sausage Party; The Addams Family) have been tapped to direct, with Brad Ableson (Minions: The Rise of Gru) serving as co-director, while Michael McCullers (Austin Powers in Goldmember; Baby Mama; The Boss Baby) penned the script.

From blockbuster franchises like Spider-Man and Dune to critical darlings like Challengers, Zendaya is at the top of her game. And with the arrival of the first teaser trailer for Shrek 5, the actress has kept that momentum going with the bombshell that she will be joining the cast as the titular ogre’s daughter.
In the clip, she appears alongside Shrek himself (Mike Myers), Fiona (Cameron Diaz), and Donkey (Eddie Murphy), as the gang scrolls through TikTok-esque Shrek memes. Watch the full Shrek 5 teaser trailer below.
Shrek 5 is currently slated for a December 23rd, 2026 release. It’ll mark the first film in the mainline Shrek series since 2010’s Shrek Forever After. Universal and DreamWorks Animation have not yet revealed plot details, but if we had to guess, maybe it’ll be about Shrek’s daughter navigating a tennis-themed love triangle set to a Trent Reznor soundtrack.

This is not a drill! It's been a long, long time since audiences have taken a trip to Far, Far Away but "Shrek 5" is going to bring us back there next year. As evidence of that, DreamWorks has released the first, brief teaser for the long-awaited sequel -- one that introduces us to the cast. Most of them are familiar faces but there is one new, very important addition: Welcome to the family, Zendaya.
While the above teaser doesn't make it explicitly clear who the star of "Dune" and "Challengers" is playing in the film, the folks at The Hollywood Reporter have confirmed that she is voicing the daughter of Shrek and Fiona. The teaser also confirms that Mike Myers (Shrek), Cameron Diaz (Fiona), and Eddie Murphy (Donkey) are also reprising their famous roles. Diaz's inclusion is not insignificant, seeing as she walked away from Hollywood for years...

Zendaya is taking her talents to the swamp.
The mononymous, in-demand actor has joined “Shrek 5” as Felicia, the daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz).
Universal and DreamWorks, the studios behind the animated adventure set in the land of Far, Far Away, released a teaser along with the updated casting news. In the clip, Shrek’s trustee sidekick Donkey (Eddie Murphy) asks: “Hey Magic Mirror, who’s the fairest of them all?”
Magic Mirror, you know, the one from “Snow White,” responds: “Why Shrek! Of course.”
But this Magic Mirror appears to have a distinctly 21st century twist, allowing the green ogre to swap between various Gen Z-ified looks at Shrek. This prompts very different reactions from Felicia and Fiona as Shrek raises the question of the hour: “Who is making this stuff?” Just then, Pinocchio pops up to tell a nose-growing lie, declaring “Not me!”

Shrek 5 has landed a star that may make other franchises green with envy.
Zendaya has joined the venerable animated film series as the daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz). She also joins Eddie Murphie, the voice of Donkey.
Zendaya is one of the most in-demand stars working today, with her upcoming schedule including Dune: Messiah, the fourth Spider-Man movie and Euphoria season three. Last year, she starred in Challengers, the well-regarded tennis drama from Luca Guadagnino, as well as Dune: Part Two. Her presence in Shrek 5 gives extra vibrancy to the 25-year-old franchise and could help bring new audiences to the fold.
The feature has a Dec. 23, 2026 release date from Universal and DreamWorks Animation, and is the first in the main series since 2010’s Shrek Forever After.
Shrek veterans Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon direct, along with Minions: The Rise of Gru co-director Brad Ableson.
