The mention of Eric Kripke’s Supernatural and the term ‘cult classic’ in the same sentence wouldn’t surprise anyone, as that’s simply how one can describe the show’s massive popularity and dedicated fanbase. Fans know every detail of the 15-seasons-long show, from the characters’ special moments to their craziest adventures against the supernatural.

However, even such fans might not have heard of Supernatural: The Animation. Released for the first time in 2011, Supernatural: The Animation is an anime series based on the beloved 2006 show.

The anime was animated and produced by the highly regarded Studio Madhouse, which makes its obscurity all the more bizarre. Supernatural anime has too many great things to offer, which makes it deserving of more attention from fans.

Supernatural is one of the longest-running fantasy shows in the history of television, lasting fifteen seasons before eventually bowing out in 2020. However, the fan excitement and love for the series shows no signs of diminishing even after all these years. As a result, a reboot of the show feels inevitable and creator Eric Kripke seems to agree.

During an interview, Kripke opened up about the possibility of potentially returning to the series he developed for a prospective reboot of the brand. While Kripke agreed that the brand had a solid chance of getting a reboot, he also hinted that a new incarnation might not require lead stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Did you know that only a few years into its extensive television run, the hit series Supernatural was reimagined as an anime? That's right, the show's popularity spanned all the way to Japan, where Warner Bros. partnered with the Japanese animation studio Madhouse, Inc. to produce Supernatural: The Animation. Unlike some of the other failed spin-off attempts, this project was entirely animated (hence the title) and centered on retelling some of the same stories that made the original show great in the first place. If you've been missing Supernatural since 2020 and are anxiously waiting to see if Season 16 actually happens, this might be the detour for you.

Fans of "Supernatural" will be disappointed as The CW has no plans for future spin-offs at the moment. Despite its huge global fan base, there will be no more spooky adventures from the Winchester brothers. The CW President confirmed no discussions have taken place regarding any kind of spin-off for the franchise.

The CW's boss has very bad news for fans of Supernatural, as it seems that there are no plans for future spin-offs being considered at The CW right now. As one of the most successful series developed by the network, Supernatural has already had one spin-off in the prequel series The Winchesters, but it seems that despite the huge fan base around the world, there will be no more spooky adventures from the world of the Winchester brothers.

Wow, Hall H! The biggest venue of Comic-Con was filled with Supernatural fans on the final day of the convention. On this year’s panel were Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Mark Sheppard, Jim Beaver, Misha Collins, and executive producers Ben Edlund and Sera Gamble. First, the trailer of the upcoming season:

There were some great funny questions and answers during the panel. When asked why they didn’t use more of the amazing arsenal that the guys keep in the trunk of the car, Ben Edlund said that if they use grenade launchers the episodes would end too early. Maybe the ninja stars though…

Misha was asked about being called the Antichrist by a church group – “I don’t know how they figured it out.” He was a riot when talking about playing “God,” saying he was surprised it took writers so long to write to his strengths.

Debuting to select audiences and currently available in Japan is Supernatural: The Animation. The first few episodes are now out on Blu-ray and DVD. Expectations are high that this series will soon see a North American release. In what is currently available, the show has both an English and Japanese voice track. All 22 episodes are tentatively expected to be available, direct to video, by April 2011.

The series is produced by Madhouse, an animation studio better known for titles like Vampire Hunter D (1985), Trigun (1998) and Monster (2004). This company is certainly no stranger to the science fiction/horror genre either. Their production values and their artistry is always visually striking. The tales they adapt are sometimes surreal.

In importing Eric Kripke's property, the company has instilled a unique take into the world of Supernatural.

The Japanese division of Warner Brothers is prepping "Supernatural: The Animation", a strangely titled (oh, those wacky Japanese) 22-episode series from Madhouse, who also brought us Batman: Gotham Knight and of course Death Note.

The anime project will not only remake the best episodes from the live-action version but also depict original episodes not seen in the live-action version. Those original episodes will include prologues of the Winchester brothers’ childhood, anime-only enemies, and episodes featuring secondary characters from the live-action version.
