Denzel Washington fans get a treat to start next month as one of the Hollywood legend's greatest action films finds a new streaming home. The Oscar-winner's vigilante thriller, The Equalizer, draws a streaming premiere via Hulu.
Hulu recently confirmed that The Equalizer will debut via its platform on Apr. 1. The Washington-led pic became a streaming favorite last year following the success of The Equalizer 3. The original film landed on Paramount+ last year following a short but successful Netflix stint. The first movie, along with its two sequels, also became available for free via Tubi early this month.
The Equalizer marks Washington's first turn as its central protagonist, Robert McCall, a former U.S. Marine and Dia officer trying to live a quiet life away from the spotlight. However, McCall reluctantly returns to action to save a teenage trafficking victim named Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz) from the Russian mafia,...

Acquired studio films that have benefited from a wide theatrical release offer the best bang for the buck for Netflix, providing more views per dollar spent than original features or acquired series, a new report has found.
The report, “Unpacking Netflix’s evolving movie strategy,” published Wednesday by Ampere Analysis, tracks viewership across Netflix for feature films, both originals and licensed, over time. Author Christen Tamisin found acquired films, including those under Netflix’s premium pay deals with Sony and NBCUniversal “contribute significantly to Netflix’s total viewing,” and, “with their lower cost-per-view,” are more cost-efficient than Netflix’s big-budget originals.
Netflix spent $1.07 billion on movie licensing in the first half of last year, the report notes, with acquired movies drawing 9.23 billion total views for the period. The streamer’s original movie spend over the same period was just under half that, at $0.51 billion, with fewer than half the total viewers,...

The very first shot of Training Day is of the enormous rising morning sun welcoming in a new day. You can't help but feel that director Antoine Fuqua and longtime collaborator Denzel Washington were already symbolizing the larger-than-life Los Angeles narcotics detective Alonzo Harris in what would be the actor's first Best Actor Academy Award-winning performance. Alonzo is the sun, and everyone else in the movie is just smaller planets and moons revolving around the enormous star at the center of it all. Washington absolutely owns the screen and every scene he's in, and you better keep up, or you're going to get run over by the Washington locomotive. His turn as a corrupt cop who plays by his own set of rules is the performer at his very best. There are several reasons why the Oscar winner we normally love as the "good guy" in other Fuqua movies, like...

Apparently nothing says Happy New Year more than Denzel Washington kicking some ass, because a lot of people are revisiting his 2018 action thriller The Equalizer 2. So much so that the six-year-old film is climbing the charts on Prime Video, rising to the number three spot behind Red One and the Spanish flick, Culpa Tuya. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, The Equalizer 2 once more follows Washington's character of Robert McCall as he seeks vengeance after one of his friends is murdered.
Hitting theaters on July 20, 2018, The Equalizer 2 also features Pedro Pascal, Bill Pullman, Ashton Sanders, and Melissa Leo. Produced on a budget of nearly $80 million dollars, it managed to gross $190 million in box office receipts, which was pretty much on par with the 2014 original. The film marked the fourth collaboration between Washington and Fuqua, following not only the first movie in the franchise, but Training Day (2001) and The Magnificent Seven (2016) as well.

While The Equalizer 2’s ending wraps up nicely, the symbolism of the sequel’s climax is much deeper than it appears. The Equalizer was a 2014 action thriller that saw Denzel Washington play Robert McCall, a lethally dangerous marine turned Dia officer. In the tense movie, Washington’s character reluctantly returns to action to save a teenager from the Russian mob. In The Equalizer 2, Robert and his former colleague, Dave York, investigate the murder of another co-worker, Susan Plummer, who was killed by unseen assailants during what looked like a robbery in Brussels.
Robert and York looked into this killing, but it didn’t take long for Washington’s hardened antihero to uncover the shocking truth leading up to The Equalizer 2's ending. Meanwhile, a troubled teenage artist named Miles offered to paint a mural on Robert’s apartment building. These two plots converged in The Equalizer 2’s closing scenes,...

Denzel Washington is currently riding high on the success of Gladiator II, which has not only become the highest-grossing film of his career, but it's also garnering significant awards buzz. He's already picked up Critics Choice and Golden Globe Award nominations for his supporting turn and some believe an Oscar nomination could be a lock. Washington doesn't need a reason for anyone to rediscover his films, but the interest in him is at a high at the moment, which could be why one of his signature films, 2004's Man on Fire, has become a hit once again on streaming.

We’ve all heard that money can’t buy happiness, but then you look at Denzel Washington and think, well, it can definitely buy a whole lot of action! As Robert McCall in The Equalizer series, the actor doesn’t just walk into a room—he owns it.
But McCall isn’t your typical action hero. Oh no, this guy is the one you want by your side when the chips are down. Not because he’s just ‘good at fighting’, but because his sense of right and wrong is so razor-sharp, it could cut through steel.

Denzel Washington is one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood right now, and luckily several of his movies are currently streaming on Netflix. Washington first gained attention on the TV series St. Elsewhere in the 1980s, and quickly began to grow in popularity with roles in films such as A Soldier's Story and Power. In 1990, Washington's role in Glory earned him his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, further solidifying his stardom. Since then, Denzel Washington has been nominated seven times for Best Actor, and he has appeared in some of the best movies of the 21st century.

After months of uncertainty, I couldn't be happier about Denzel Washington's recent The Equalizer update, not only because it means more movies for fans of the franchise, but also, more movies for Washington. Since 2014, Washington has starred as the skilled former Marine, Robert McCall, in The Equalizer movies. For three films now, Washington has proven that he still has what it takes to be an action hero. However, after the peaceful ending of 2023's The Equalizer 3, the fate of the franchise became unclear. With McCall happily retired in the Italian countryside, many assumed it would end there.
Fortunately, Washington recently confirmed that McCall's story is not ending there. In an interview with Esquire, Washington revealed two more Equalizer movies are currently in development. Of the upcoming films, Washington said, "Ive come to realize that the Equalizer films are for me, too, because theyre for the people. They want...

Denzel Washington, the acclaimed actor who's starred in everything from Fences to The Equalizer and, most recently, Gladiator II, already has two Oscars to his name. But, the actor recently admitted that his biggest Academy Awards loss hit him much harder than he expected. In 1999, Washington played Rubin Carter in The Hurricane, based on the real-life boxer falsely accused of murder. After four critically acclaimed seasons, CBS's Queen Latifah-led crime drama may be exploring the possibility of a spinoff series. In an upcoming episode, The Equalizer will introduce two new characters who carry the potential to spark their own variation on the original 1985 Equalizer series and movie reboot of the same name.
Per a report by Deadline, casting is now underway for both roles. One of the new characters is a mysterious female martial artist, weapons expert, and criminologist who, like many of the show's characters, turns to Robyn McCall (Queen Latifah) as a last-ditch effort for help. The other is an older male and former CIA operative who may or may not have a prior history with McCall from their time at the agency. Both characters will begin as guest stars on the show, but have the potential to earn regular appearances in a spin-off series.

Denzel Washington has confirmed he will be making more sequels in ‘The Equalizer’ franchise. The 69-year-old actor has starred in the action series from its 2014 debut until the most-recent third entry last year, and now Washington has revealed he will be returning as the grizzled Robert McCall in two more movies.Speaking with Esquire magazine, he said: “I told them I would do another ‘Equalizer’, and we’re doing four and five. More people are happy about that — people love those daggone [God damn] Equalizers.”The ‘Gladiator II’ star added the series was as much for audiences as it was for him, because he loved getting the chance to be an action hero.He added: “But I’ve come to realise that the ‘Equalizer’ films are for me, too, because they’re for the people. They want me to go get the bad guys: ‘We can’t get them, so you go get them.

According to Denzel Washington, two more Equalizer movies are currently in the works. Washington first played former government assassin Robert McCall in 2014, returning for a sequel in 2018 and a third film in 2023. The Equalizer 3 seemed to bring McCall's story to a close, ending with Washington's character happily retired from a life of violence in Italy, but there have been rumblings about a potential The Equalizer 4, with franchise director Antoine Fuqua expressing interest in continuing if Washington was willing to return.
In a recent interview with Esquire, Washington shares a surprising new update on the franchise, revealing that The Equalizer 4 and The Equalizer 5 are both in development. Though the actor doesn't provide a development or production timeline regarding the next two installments, he does break down his thought process regarding his return as McCall, explaining why the character and the films resonate with audiences. Check out Washington's comment below:...

The Equalizer 3 showed what retirement looked like for Robert McCall, even though he still had to earn that separate peace. Denzel Washington says that it's too early for his character to ride out into the sunset.
Denzel Washington confirmed The Equalizer 4 and 5 are in the works. He told Esquire he's doing sequels more for the fans than for himself. "I've come to realize that the Equalizer films are for me, too, because they're for the people," he asserted. "They want me to go get the bad guys. 'We can't get them, so you go get them.' On last week's Empire podcast, Denzel Washington confirmed that reports of his premature retirement were greatly exaggerated. Also on last week's Empire podcast, the Gladiator II star was asked by our very own Chris Hewitt whether he'd ever be tempted to revisit the character of Robert McCall — aka The Equalizer — in future Equalizer movies: Washington neither confirmed nor denied, instead opting for a five-second stare into the interviewer's soul. Now, in a remarkable turn of events, the senior Washington has made an about-face, confirming to Esquire in an interview that not only could he be tempted to play McCall again, but he will — twice!
While the last brace of movies in the Equalizer trilogy swept up a cool near-$400 million at the box office, the kind of financial performance that would ordinarily make further sequels a virtual guarantee, both Washington and director Antoine Fuqua let The Equalizer 3 play out...

Robert McCall is coming back for even more blood. That's right! Denzel Washington has confirmed that he is returning as the stone-cold killer of those who deserve killing after starring in a trilogy of "The Equalizer" movies for Sony Pictures and director Antoine Fuqua. The interesting bit, though, is that the Oscar-winning actor says that they are making not one, but two more "Equalizer movies.
Washington was recently the subject of a profile piece by Esquire in honor of the release of "Gladiator II," which features the beloved actor in a key role as Macrinus. During the conversation, he revealed that Sony Pictures has gotten him to agree to both "The Equalizer 4" and "The Equalizer 5," apparently. While there wasn't a ton of information given, here's what the actor had to say about it:

Denzel Washington is making action lovers very happy as he confirmed that he will return for two more movies in The Equalizer franchise. The Oscar-winner is currently starring in Ridley Scotts epic sequel Gladiator II, and has seemingly been cast in the yet-to-be-announced Black Panther 3, but that apparently doesnt mean he will be too busy to bring Robert McCall back to cinemas. In the latest edition of Esquire, Washington said:

The Equalizer isn't going anywhere. Denzel Washington recently told Esquire, that the fourth and fifth movies in the franchise are in development. The news comes as a surprise after the recent The Equalizer 3 served as a conclusion to Robert McCall's journey as an unpredictable hero. The vigilante isn't done yet. Washington's protagonist will come back to take on more villains in the future, but a potential release date for the next Equalizer movie hasn't been announced by Sony Pictures yet. Considering how this is the first time the upcoming movies have been mentioned, it could be a while before the studio discloses more information about the development of the sequels.

When The Equalizer 3 was released last year, it was promoted as being the final chapter in the film franchise – even though director Antoine Fuqua let it be known that he was interested in going back and telling the origin story of Robert McCall, the ex-Marine and Dia officer played by Denzel Washington in the trilogy. There’s no word on whether or not one them will actually end up being an origin story, but Washington has now revealed that he has agreed to come back for both The Equalizer 4 and The Equalizer 5!
Washington dropped the news during an interview with Esquire, saying, “I told them I would do another Equalizer, and we’re doing four and five. Denzel Washington's talk of retirement may have just permanently ruled out The Equalizer 4. It's shocking to think that before the second entry of The Equalizer movie franchise, Washington had never appeared in a sequel. Of course, it helps that the concept loaned itself to other standalone stories, where Denzel's vigilante McCall rights the wrongs that the law can't (or won't). The Equalizer 3's ending saw McCall retire to a quiet little Italian town, seemingly leaving his equalizing days behind for good.
Regardless of the film wrapping up McCall's story and giving the character a shot to live in peace, there was still hope for a potential Equalizer 4. The character is still alive, and so long as a good concept is found, there's no reason to think the series couldn't run for another sequel or two. Ultimately, it feels there is a lack of desire on Washington's part for more,...

Denzel Washington delivers an incredible monologue to The Equalizer's main villain, and it's one where the subtext is pretty clear. Denzel didn't have much luck with action movies before 2004's Man on Fire, with this Tony Scott thriller casting him as a bodyguard on a relentless quest for revenge. Other notable Denzel Washington action movies include Unstoppable and The Book of Eli. Denzel even found himself an action franchise with The Equalizer movies.

Very few actors in the industry can even dream of what Daniel Day-Lewis achieved in his career. The actor, often considered one of the greatest in the industry, has made a huge name for his detailed research behind every role. However, even after having 3 Oscars and numerous hits, his net worth is lower than most of his contemporaries including Denzel Washington.

Although Denzel Washington is only 2 years older than Daniel Day-Lewis, the latter’s net worth is not even close to the Equalizer star. Interestingly, Day-Lewis, even after having such a low net worth, did not need work for 7 years before finally announcing his comeback in 2024.

Denzel Washington's impressive Hollywood resume is hard to top, but joining Fast & Furious would make him a part of one of the biggest blockbuster franchises around, and he already has the perfect role. With decades worth of acting experience and two Oscars to his name, Washington is easily one of the biggest actors around. After starring in The Equalizer 3 in 2023, the actor will appear in the long-awaited Gladiator II alongside numerous other projects, proving he is still a cinematic draw. However, Washington has lost out on some big roles, which he shouldn't repeat with F&f.

Denzel Washington has had many prolific roles over his long and illustrious film career. Still, the actor has also had many parts that he either missed out on out of his own volition or because the casting producers turned him down. Of course, that has not slowed him down at all, as seen in his expansive filmography and numerous award wins. Few actors are on the same level as Washington, which essentially allows him to handpick and create the projects he wants to be a part of. Paramount+ just got a major upgrade in the Denzel Washington department. The actor's 2014 action thriller, The Equalizer, is now available to stream on the platform.
Based on the titular '80s TV series, The Equalizer stars Washington as Robert McCall (succeeding Edward Woodward in the role), an ex-Marine and CIA case officer who reluctantly ends his retirement to save a teenage trafficking victim (Chlo Grace Moretz) from the Russian mafia. Although the movie received mixed reviews from critics (61% on Rotten Tomatoes), it was a modest box office hit, earning $192.1 million worldwide. The Equalizer is the second of (so far) five collaborations between Washington and director Antoine Fuqua.

In recent years, Labor Day weekend’s reputation as a box office dead zone has been upended by strong showings from films like “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “The Equalizer 3.” Unfortunately, for 2024, standard perception prevails with a predictably lackluster showing.

The latest update on The Equalizer 4 essentially confirms Denzel Washington will not return as Robert McCall after The Equalizer 3. The third installment in the action franchise was promoted as being the final time audiences would see Washington and director Antoine Fuqua work together in this series. However, the movie's critical acclaim and box office success has once again prompted speculation that the franchise could continue. Discussions about how The Equalizer 4 could happen with Washington returning to the lead role have lingered, and Fuqua's update on the movie puts the star in a powerful position.
Even before any details like The Equalizer 4's story could be sorted, Fuqua addressed the possibility of the sequel happening while doing press for The Equalizer 3. The director reiterated the stance that The Equalizer 3 was envisioned as the end of the franchise but also confirmed he'd be willing to make another if Denzel was on board.
