Resident Evil is getting rebooted by Barbarian helmer Zach Cregger. With no connection to the previous movies (and Netflix series), the new reboot is set to hit theaters next year.
Per THR, the first cast member for the movie may have been found. Austin Abrams is reportedly eyed to star in the movie, which would reunite him with Cregger. Abrams is one of the stars of the upcoming film Weapons, Cregger's follow-up to the acclaimed horror movie Barbarian. Abrams has yet to officially sign on, so it's not a lock just yet.
Abrams recently appeared in the Apple TV movie Wolfs with George Clooney and Brad Pitt. To fans of The Walking Dead, he can be recognized for his role as Ron Anderson, the character who shoots Carl (Chandler Riggs) in the eye in Season 6 before he gets devoured by zombies. Coming-of-age drama “Penelope,” produced by Duplass Brothers Productions, is set to launch on pay TV platform Sky and streaming service Now in the U.K. and Ireland, following a deal with Fremantle.
The eight-part series, created by Mark Duplass (“The Morning Show”) and Mel Eslyn, follows Penelope, played by Megan Stott, a 16-year-old who feels out of place in modern society and is drawn into the unknown wilderness, where she begins to form a new life for herself.
Penelope is caught up in the modern world’s technology, pacing and pressure, but something is missing, and things feel off, she can’t quite put it into words. On the surface, her life seems pretty great, while inside, there’s a fierceness that’s been brewing, a calling towards a new way of being.

Two Christmas series are trending on Netflix, and they couldn't be more different. Netflix's library contains a diverse array of Christmas titles. Although their roster includes an ever-shifting array of acquired movies and TV shows that come and go as licensing contracts change, their holiday season offerings for 2024 have included theatrical titles such as A Bad Moms Christmas and Journey to Bethlehem as well as a huge list of Hallmark CHannel movies including Haul Out the Holly, Christmas with a Kiss, Christmas in Notting Hill, A Biltmore Christmas, and A Merry Scottish Christmas.
However, since the late 2010s, they have also built out a huge roster of Netflix original Christmas movies, many of which take place in an interconnected universe. This includes the Princess Switch and A Christmas Prince trilogies, A Castle for Christmas, and The Knight Before Christmas. In 2024, as the film and television industry looked to repair after the year of double labor strikes, comedy continued to explode. Emerging in recent years as the leader in the field, Netflix got the biz off to a good start with a second edition of its festival, Netflix Is a Joke, which expanded its scope as 600-plus artists hit Los Angeles over the course of 12 days, with more than 360,000 tickets sold.
Netflix released nearly 40 stand-up specials this year, but Hulu showed that they’re not to be outdone with the launch of Hularious, a stand-up brand that will see specials from the likes of Bill Burr and Sebastian Maniscalco hitting the platform. During Disney’s Upfront presentation in May, Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, expressed the intention to make Hulu “a best-in-class destination for comedic talent,” having never before invested in this low-cost, high-impact arena of content.

“Penelope,” a new TV series that premiered Tuesday on Netflix, follows the story of a 16-year-old girl who leaves her life behind to build a new one closer to nature.
The premise sounds like a parent’s worst nightmare. It likely would have been handled far more scandalously in other creative hands. But the new teen drama from Mark Duplass and Mel Eslyn, starring “Little Fires Everywhere” standout Megan Stott, makes a bolder statement about young life through its quieter approach.
“This show is about Penelope’s unraveling, and having that moment where she’s creating a new version of herself that she can look at and say, ‘This is totally me,’” Stott told TheWrap. “I want people to be able to watch and reflect on themselves and their lives, and find things that really help set that fire inside of them.”

Bat Boy, the bizarre half-bat, half-boy featured in several Weekly World News stories, is finally heading to the small screen. A television series based on Bat Boy is now in development for a streaming release on Netflix.
Per Deadline, the Bat Boy show will be a live-action series that will bring the fictitious creature from the famous tabloid to life. The project is getting developed by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Joe Tracz. The project is reportedly in development with an original concept that won't be borrowing any ideas from the previous Off-Broadway show, Bat Boy: The Musical, which debuted in 1997.

Exclusive: Everyone’s favorite tabloid anomaly, Bat Boy, is poised to be the star of his own live-action TV series. Netflix is developing Bat Boy, a YA horror-comedy from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Joe Tracz, sources tell Deadline.
The character of Bat Boy — the half-bat, half-boy who became infamous for his cover stories in the supermarket publication Weekly World News in the ’90s — previously was brought to life in the Off-Broadway show Bat Boy: The Musical which premiered in Los Angeles in 1997. That stage production has no connection to the contemporary TV reimagination, we understand.
Reps for Netflix and Warner Bros.Television declined comment.

Among the highly anticipated upcoming MCU projects, ‘Thunderbolts’ has been a frequent topic of discussion. In September, Kevin Feige revealed the return of David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko in their respective roles for the film. Additionally, Yelena Belova was confirmed as part of the Thunderbolts team.
Rumors then circulated about Steven Yeun playing Sentry, which was later confirmed. However, Yeun recently withdrew from the role due to scheduling conflicts resulting from the recently concluded SAG-AFTRA strike. Now, according to Daniel Richtman, a reliable source, Austin Abrams is reportedly being considered for the role of Sentry.

Regardless, Abrams bears a striking resemblance to the comic-accurate Sentry, particularly in his pre-Golden Sentry serum days, during his less-than-ideal moments.

If there’s one upcoming MCU project that has been talked about in recent times, it’s ‘Thunderbolts.’ In September Kevin Feige announced that David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko would be reprising their roles as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Ava Starr/Ghost, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, John Walker/U.S. Agent, and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, respectively, in the film. He also confirmed that Yelena Belova would be a part of the Thunderbolts team in the film.
Soon after that rumors appeared that Steven Yeun would be playing Sentry in the movie, and the confirmation followed soon. Fans were not exactly ecstatic with that casting choice, citing obvious differences in how Steven Yeun looks and how comics accurate Sentry is supposed to look; even with a muscle suit and heavy use of CGI, it’s far-fetched at best and laughable at worst.

Dash & Lily's limited series format perfectly captures the charm and essence of a seasonal rom-com, making it Netflix's best holiday offering. The show's longer runtime allows for fun plot complications and well-rounded side characters, enhancing the overall romantic comedy experience. Dash & Lily is not only a stellar Christmas rom-com, but also proves that Netflix is capable of producing excellent limited series adaptations of YA novels.
Netflix's best Christmas rom-com isn't a feature film, but a limited series: Dash & Lily, a 2020 adaptation of a young adult novel. Based on Dash & Lily's Book of Dares, an entry in Rachel Cohn and David Levithan's beloved book series, the Netflix show last just one season, though that was a purposeful decision on the streamer's part. The latest Blumhouse film, "Unseen," has a new trailer that just dropped, and it looks like a totally unique offering from the popular horror studio. While Blumhouse is best known for its scary good track record, which includes "Insidious," "The Invisible Man," and "Paranormal Activity," the production company's latest (which also comes via MGM+ and Paramount) is actually a thriller-comedy with a wild high-concept premise.
"Unseen" stars "WandaVision" and "Orange is the New Black" actress Jolene Purdy as Sam, a gas station clerk at a dead-end job at a place called Gator Galore, where her boss seems to be a bullying redneck and she's clearly not having a great time. Enter: Emily ("Dash & Lily" star Midori Francis), a woman who ends up needing Sam's help in a major — and majorly unexpected — way. Ever since Barbie Ferreira announced she won't be reprising her role as Kat Hernandez in season three of "Euphoria," fans have been wondering what this means for Austin Abrams, who plays her ex-boyfriend Ethan Daley on the show. As of now, it looks like the 26-year-old is expecting to return for the third installment, though in what capacity remains unclear.
While speaking with The Nerds of Color in February, Abrams shared his hopes for the upcoming season. "Yeah, I got no idea. I don't know what is happening or going on," he said of season three. "I mean, I think [season two] for him has been a cool change and awakening. I feel like he's just becoming more of an adult now, just having more of a backbone and standing up for himself, which I think is super cool. But yeah, I got no idea. I mean, Sam [Levinson] always surprises me.

Maya Hawke, Camila Mendes, a Bougie with a capital B high school and two thirsts for vengeance complete the recipe for Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s latest film, “Do Revenge.”
Based broadly on Alfred Hitchcock’s “Strangers on a Train” (1951), “Do Revenge” sets a similar switched “getting back at” story in a younger scenario: the elite Rosehill Country Day high school full of entitled and wealthy students. If the story or cast doesn’t sound appealing, maybe the soundtrack will.
Fans of the work of Hitchcock and of Mendes in “Riverdale” or Hawke in “Stranger Things” as well as Austin Abrams’ work in “Euphoria” may be wondering how to watch “Do Revenge.” We’ve rounded up all the details below.

A Netflix rep tells TVLine that the decision was made to submit the rookie dramedy in the newly-created Children’s & Family Emmys, which is slated to launch later this year after having previously been folded into the Daytime Emmys ceremony. Why you won’t see ‘Heartstopper’ at the Primetime Emmys and where you’ll find it instead [Exclusive]
“Heartstopper” fans might have actual heart attacks on Thursday, June 16, when Primetime Emmy voting starts with the Netflix sleeper hit absent from the ballots. But worry not, the show hasn’t been dismissed from awards contention. It’ll simply be competing someplace else. Netflix told Gold Derby exclusively that they’re submitting the breakout teen dramedy to the Best Young Adult Series category at the Children’s and Family Emmys, where it will also be eligible for categories that recognize performers, writers, directors and crafts.
Children’s and family programming used to be awarded at the Daytime Emmys as such programs typically aired before prime time. However, TV has drastically changed in just the last 10 years and the distinctions between daytime and prime time have become less relevant in an era when streaming content can be viewed at any time of day. The romance is over for Dash & Lily. Netflix has confirmed the series will not be returning for a second season.
Austin Abrams and Midori Francis starred in the holiday romantic comedy series, from Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and Nick Jonas’ Image 32.
Described as a whirlwind Holiday romance, the series revolved around cynical Dash (Abrams) and optimistic Lily (Francis) who traded dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they passed back and forth at locations all across New York City, finding they had more in common with each other than they would have expected.
The season 1 finale, which aired in November 2020 and now serves as the series finale, saw Dash (Abrams) and Lily (Francis) finally kiss at midnight on New Year’s Eve at NYC’s famed Strand Bookstore.
Based on the YA book series Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares from authors Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, the series...
