Reality and nightmare collide in the upcoming thriller Sleepwalker starring Hayden Panettiere (Scream VI), and Deadline brings us more casting news this week.

The slasher mash-up Freddy vs. Jason just celebrated its 20th anniversary six months ago, and now we have some very sad news to share about one of its cast members: Chris Gauthier, who played the Jason victim Shack in the film, has passed away at the age of 48. Best known to horror fans for playing the memorable character “Shack” in 2003’s horror movie mashup Freddy vs. Jason, actor Chris Gauthier has passed away at the age of 48.

The actor died on February 23 from an “unspecified short illness,” Variety reports.

Chris Gauthier has over 100 film and television acting credits on his resume dating back to 2000, with his film work also including 40 Days and 40 Nights, Insomnia, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, Riding the Bullet, The Butterfly Effect 2, The Sandlot: Heading Home, Watchmen, Beyond the Black Rainbow, Monster Trucks, and The Christmas House.

On the small screen, Gauthier appeared in countless television shows including “Dead Like Me,” “Bionic Woman,” “Supernatural,” “Harper’s Island,” “Sanctuary,” “Smallville,” “Eureka,” “R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour,” “Psych,” “iZombie,” and “Once Upon a Time.”

R L Stine’s Goosebumps has been renewed for a second series at Disney+, with a change in format to an anthology show.

R L Stine’s Goosebumps is one of the bestselling book series in history. It is no surprise that it has had myriad screen adaptations over the years.

Perhaps the most fondly remembered is the 1990s television series, which had memorable opening titles in which the shadow of the G in Goosebumps made it’s way through an eerie town while the unsettling theme tune played over it.

Many of the original novels were adapted, and it marked a high point for television horror aimed at young adults, as it was broadcast around the same time as Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, a horror anthology aimed at older teenagers. Several of Stine’s works have made it to the screen, from a trilogy of Fear Street...

Iconic scaremaker R.L. Stine has been terrorizing kids and teens for over three decades. The mere mention of the author’s name readily brings up memories of Goosebumps and Fear Street. Yet, it was his two short-story collections, The Haunting Hour and Nightmare Hour, that inspired one of the best horror TV shows for young people.

The beginnings of The Haunting Hour can be traced back to a 2007 straight-to-video movie called Don’t Think About It, which then aired on Cartoon Network. Despite its title and Stine’s writing credit, though, the movie’s script wasn’t based on anything from its literary namesake. In fact, this was an original story penned by creative partners Dan Angel and Billy Brown. There are plenty of TV shows like Goosebumps that similarly combine horror and comedy in varying doses. Based on R.L. Stine's children's books of the same name, the Disney Goosebumps series follows past adaptations including a '90s show with an anthology format and two feature-length movies. While Disney's Goosebumps isn't connected to those previous incarnations, it similarly retains the spirit of the novels by blending suspense, mystery, and touches of humor.

The focus of the trailer is on horror filmmaker Len Carver, rather than the book's main characters Mike and Karen. The movie seems to be a team-up vehicle for Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase, despite their characters not being present in the original story.

Viva Pictures released the first trailer for the film, which sees Amy (Madi Monroe) and Mike (Marlon Kazadi) uncover a centuries-old secret when they watch a movie reel that turns the actors into the living dead. The duo tracks down filmmaker Len Carver (Dan Akroyd), who enlists the help of Mezmarian (Chevy Chase) to help break the curse before their town is overrun by zombies. Adapted from the beloved R.L. Stine book series, Netflix's Fear Street Part 1: 1994 immediately become a Top 3 most-viewed title on the platform upon its July 2nd, 2021 premiere. While the movie has drawn mixed reviews, one of the most celebrated aspects of the film is the complex set of characters, most of which come together in their small Ohio town to defeat the evil witch known as Sarah Fier.

As the ancient curse afflicts the dueling towns of Shadyside and Sunnyvale, the high school teenagers must overcome their differences and rid the evil for good. However, some characters are far more adept at doing so. While this movie will certainly have audiences on the edge of their seats, some have been contemplating which characters have made this movie iconic.

R.L. Stine's 4 four-season show The Haunting Hour was a step above his already beloved children's horror show Goosebumps, as its stories were creepier and were designed for older kids and teenagers. Ergo, the scares were amped up. The episodes were crafted as hour-long ghost tales meant to scare the younger horror-loving crowds but the show never went too over the top.

Stine's show fed into the nightmares of 90's kids. With this show and Goosebumps, the author inspired other popular kid-themed horror shows such as Are You Afraid of the Dark?. Many Haunting Hour episodes were top-notch and here are the ten spookiest.

Goosebumps has never gone away as a franchise, as evidenced by the recent movie adaptations, but the generation of ‘90s kids who grew up with R.L Stine’s literary horror phenomenon likely still best associate its live-action presence with the 1995-1998 Fox Kids television series. Now, those halcyon days of family-friendly scares are set to return, with the news that a new series is in the works.

The publisher’s production arm, Scholastic Entertainment, is teaming with Sony Pictures Television to conjure a new Goosebumps live-action television series, reports Deadline. The team has tapped prolific producer Neal H. Moritz—who worked on Sony-originated film outings in 2015’s Goosebumps and 2018 sequel Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween—to develop the series for generations new and old.

As Scholastic Entertainment president and chief strategy officer Iole Lucchese lauds of the collaboration in a statement:

That said, Nacelle Company is looking to champion Loesch with a feature-length documentary about her life and career.

Superman star Margot Kidder passed away in May and now the cause of her death has been revealed as an apparent suicide. Park County coroner Richard Wood recently released a statement saying that Kidder "died as a result of a self-inflicted drug and alcohol overdose." No further information regarding her passing is going to be released.

Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane in the 1978 blockbuster superhero movie Superman, was discovered by a friend at her home in Montana on May 13. The state has one of the highest rates of suicide in the nation. Kidder had her share of troubles and dealt with bipolar disorder throughout her life, and was diagnosed with manic depression in 1988. This ultimately led to her having a breakdown in 1996. Kidder even spent a brief time being homeless following her breakdown. In the years that followed, she advocated for doing away with the stigmas that surround mental health issues.

Every town in America has their version of The Wicked. They're the weird person, house, or other location kids whisper about amongst themselves in fear and parents use to threaten their children with. It's the old house on the hill everyone walks faster by on the way home from school or the old man or woman we're told not to talk to.

Director Peter Winther and writer Michael Vickerman put together a fun little indie film that is only hindered by shoddy CGI and a wavering sense of who it was made for. The Wicked is an extended episode of R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour until we get one or two sequences of sexuality and dialogue littered with bad language. Movies like this always leave me shaking my head in wonder. If they tone down those elements or omit them, they would have a PG-13 film that more people could enjoy.

In this spine-tingling episode (which airs at 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Et), a scarecrow appears in a field where a young farmer's daughter (Bailee Madison, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark) and her brother (Richard Harmon, “Tower Prep”) begin to suspect that it means to drive off more than just the crows and suddenly find themselves fighting for survival.

Frankie Jonas took some of us MTV News-ers costume shopping in preparation for the spookiest day of the year, Halloween. We all headed over to Abracadabra costume shop here in NYC, where the Bonus Jonas himself weighed in on the two costumes he's thinking of wearing this year.

"I chose the zombie because I was a zombie for two years in a row ... zombies they're like the full on, everyone loves a zombie," the "R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour: The Series" star explained. "Zombies are the base of Halloween 'cause you get dead, you get living and you get creepy."

"I like Chucky because it's really, like no offense to Chucky, but he's kind of cheesy," the 11-year-old continued. "But that's what I like about him. I love old cheesy horror movies. I love horror movies. My two favorites are probably 'Sweeney Todd' and the original 'Nightmare on Elm Street.

New York — Frankie Jonas may be the smallest of the Jonas brothers, but he certainly isn't short on personality. Frankie, like his three older brothers before him, is trying his hand at show business and will appear this weekend on "R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour: The Series."

Being that it is the season for all things creepy, the always swagged-out Frankie decided to bring MTV News along as he searched for the just-right Halloween costume.

"What we're doing here today, we are looking at the costumes and we're going costume shopping," he told MTV News at Abracadabra. "Which I'm really happy about, because I need to get a head-start on my costume."
