Celebrity chef Robert Irvine says he won't return for a 23rd season of Restaurant: Impossible at Food Network, explaining to his fans online that the network sees him as "old news." With Irvine serving as the shot, Restaurant: Impossible originally launched on Food Network in 2011. It went on hiatus in 2015 before returning on Food Network in 2019. Overall, the show has spanned 22 seasons, with Season 22 concluding on the network in April of this year.
In a new series of posts on Twitter, Irvine reveals that Restaurant: Impossible has apparently been canceled. Amid the pending fate of its co-parent company Vice Media Group, Vice TV is focusing on its latest season of “Dark Side of the Ring,” and Vice Studios-produced projects recently launched on other platforms, including “American Gladiators” on ESPN, “Bama Rush” at Max, and “100 Days to Indy” at the CW network.
It’s also looking to the future, ordering second seasons of “Dark Side of Comedy” and “Sex Before the Internet” and greenlighting new series “Dark Side of the 2000s” for its own cable channel, in addition to moving Vice web series “One Star Reviews” to linear.
As Vice’s president of global TV, Morgan Hertzan, put it, the Vice TV network — which is part owned by A+E Networks — is “very, very busy” right now.

Gordon Ramsay has given TV viewers what they've always wanted: Kitchen Nightmares will get new episodes in 2023-24. Per Deadline, Fox has ordered a new season of the series, which ended in 2014 after six seasons. However, it never really went away. While Fox was ordering plenty of other Ramsay shows, Kitchen Nightmares has continued to maintain a following in syndication, on streaming services and on YouTube. And when one factors in its British predecessor, it has 20 years of staying power.
There's no doubt that Ramsay is a TV brand unto himself. His dance card currently includes Top Chef rival MasterChef, its spinoff MasterChef Junior, the seemingly immortal Hell's Kitchen, the literally towering Next Level Chef, NatGeo's travel show Gordon Ramsay Uncharted and the upcoming Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars, which is an apparent cross between a food show and Shark Tank. On top of that, he's producing content via Studio...

George Stephanopoulos has been many things over the years. A political operative. A TV anchor. In his next project, he’s taking on a decidedly different role.
In “Power Trip — Those Who Seek Power and Those Who Chase Them,” a new eight-part series set to stream on Hulu starting September 25, Stephanopoulos will serve as an analyst and adviser to a group of seven ambitious young “embed” reporters covering the 2022 midterm elections for ABC News. The show mixes on-the-ground reportage with the sort of mentor-student relationship that plays a central part in popular reality programs that range from “The Voice” to “Restaurant: Impossible.”
The conceit offers “a fresh way of covering politics,” says Stephanopoulos, in an interview. “This is a different way of doing it, through the lens of these young reporters on the ground.”

There’s a good story in “Wolfgang” that captures how a chef goes with the flow. It was a bustling night at Spago (the only kind of night Spago had in the ’80s), and in walked Joan Collins, at the apex of her “Dynasty” fame. She always ordered one of Wolfgang Puck’s most popular dishes: smoked salmon on a brioche. But all the brioche was gone, and Puck didn’t want to face the wrath of Alexis. So he improvised. He cooked a pizza without tomato sauce and spread dill cream on it, covering it with smoked salmon and topping it with dollops of caviar. Voilà! A Spago classic was born.
That’s an anecdote to make you hungry, which happens a lot in “Wolfgang,” a Disney Plus documentary that tells Wolfgang Puck’s story, and does it justice, in a crisp light 78 minutes. As it happens, the Pizza...

A Columbia, Missouri man who once appeared on the Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible show has been arrested and charged with murder in a four-year-old cold case.
Jeffrey McWilliams was arrested Tuesday on charges of second degree murder, first degree robbery, and armed criminal action in relation to the murder of Augustus Roberts in December 2017.
The Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible sees host Robert Irvine attempt to turn around failing restaurants in two days. He worked with McWilliams on his McLanks eatery in July 2019, giving the place a makeover that prevented the visit from shutting down.
McLanks serves what it calls “American comfort food.” The restaurant was reportedly vandalized shortly after it appeared on the Food Network.
Reports last June indicated that the show was planning a “revisit” episode to guide its reopening after it was shuttered by the pandemic in February 2020.
McWilliams waived his arraignment Wednesday in court after his arrest Tuesday.

“Chopped,” that Food Network perennial, is getting a few new ingredients.
When the Discovery-owned outlet launches two new versions of the long-running series on streaming-video hub Discovery Plus, it will do with an aim to win younger audiences to its cause. “Chopped 420” gives four chefs the chance to incorporate cannabis or cannabis-infused ingredients into their recipes while “Chopped Next Gen” focuses on younger chefs. Both series last five episodes.
Executives have considered what mainstay series might work as a spin-off aimed at niche crowds, says Courtney White, Food Network’s president. “Chopped,” she says, had the right dishes on the menu. “I think you have to have a really powerful franchise to be able to experiment this way,” the executive says.
In “Chopped 420,” comedian Ron Funches challenges four chefs to create an appetizer, entrée and dessert from a mystery basket of ingredients. They will vie for a $10,000 grand prize.

Food Network is cutting down the number of episodes for the upcoming fourth season of its holiday series “Christmas Cookie Challenge,” because of a crew member tested positive for Covid-19 this week, Variety has learned. The season will be six episodes long instead of its usual eight.
Sonic Dog, the producers of the show, offered Variety a statement (posted in full below), saying, “At episode 6, unfortunately, an employee tested positive; after contact tracing, the producers decided to wrap production. The series was not ‘shut down’ by any outside party; rather, Sonic Dog elected to wrap three days early to allow staff, crew and cast to return home as opposed to extending the schedule.”
“Christmas Cookie Challenge,” co-hosted by Eddie Jackson and Ree Drummond, was shot at Quixote Studios outside of New Orleans. Before production began on Aug. 5, Sonic Dog “established Covid safety protocols in partnership with an on set medical and testing partner,...

In June, two perennial Food Network shows, Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and Robert Irvine’s “Restaurant: Impossible,” went back into production. It was the first time either show shot on location since the coronavirus pandemic brought all television and film production to a dramatic halt in mid-March. They were filmed under strict, new Covid-19 protocols with reduced, mask-wearing crews — all of whom, according to Food Network, tested negative for coronavirus after filming was completed.
Courtney White, the president of Food Network and Cooking Channel, says the network agreed to restart production after creating specific plans for each show. “It isn’t one-size-fits-all,” White tells Variety. “But we did start with: Where can we film with the smallest footprint, the smallest crew — where everybody is very comfortable, and everybody’s on board? Obviously in this scenario, everybody feels different about their own personal willingness to step out of their house.

Robert Irvine will add some new ingredients to Food Network as part of a new two-year deal with the Discovery-owned cable outlet.
Irvine will lead new episodes of his series “Restaurant: Impossible” and develop mid- and short-form video segments for both linear and digital venues, including Food Network’s Kitchen app. He will also work to help struggling restaurant owners in a new spinoff series, “Restaurant Impossible: Back in Business,” which is slated to debut July 30 at 9 p.m. eastern.
“I’m beyond grateful to have had Food Network as my professional home for so many years – and positively thrilled that our partnership will continue for the foreseeable future,” said Irvine, in a prepared statement. “The biggest thanks, however, I reserve for our fans, whose enthusiasm and support make it all possible. We have a lot of work to do, with more restaurants than ever needing a helping hand.

Producers at Levity Live consider themselves lucky. The shows they were working on — like Food Network’s “Restaurant: Impossible,” Adult Swim’s “Black Jesus” and Hgtv’s “House Hunters” — had all wrapped principal photography by March when the pandemic hit. There was only one problem: Post-production needed to be completed.
But the company was also prepared. In the weeks before the coronavirus forced the closure of many offices throughout the entertainment industry, Levity Live preordered huge hard drives to transfer more than 520Tb of footage per day that enabled it to move its 140 post workers from the office to their homes.
John Bravakis, executive VP and chief operating officer at Triage Entertainment, a production company owned by Levity Live that also produces Ovation’s “Inside the Actors Studio,” notes that early planning — along with the good fortune to not have any serialized reality shows in its pipeline — meant Levity and...
