Behzat Ç. is a fanatic supporter of Genclerbirligi Sports Club, an A League team in Turkey based in Ankara. Erdal Besikçioglu, the actor who plays Behzat is actually nephew of Ilhan Cavcav, the chairman of the Genclerbirligi since 1978.
A recurring argument on throughout the show is a competition between Ankara, the official capital of Turkey, and Istanbul, the most developed and biggest city in Turkey. Whenever characters are visitors from Istanbul, they usually insult Ankara, and usually Behzat's police team insults to Istanbul in similar ways against them.
