John Wick director Chad Stahelski has found his next revenge action movie in the form of Sifu, the upcoming adaptation of the hit video game from Slocap. This comes after three years since the original beat 'em up game was first released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows.
Per Deadline, Stahelski has officially signed on to produce the Sifu movie under his production banner 87Eleven Entertainment. The stuntman-turned-filmmaker is best known for directing all four movies of the Keanu Reeves-led action thriller franchise, including 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4. Stahelski is no stranger to video game adaptations, after previously serving as a second-unit director in 2015’s Hitman: Agent 47 movie. Besides Sifu, he is also currently attached to helm and produce Sony Pictures’ Ghost of Tsushima movie, based on the 2020 action-adventure game from Sucker Punch Productions.

Chad Stahelski is keeping busy with his video game adaptations, as a new report from Deadline has revealed that the John Wick director will be producing a Netflix adaptation of the video game Sifu, which was developed and published by Sloclap and released in 2022. The game is a beat-em-up with challenging combat scenarios and a compelling thematic twist based on a game mechanic that causes players to age up whenever they lose a fight. The mechanic requires careful strategy, as when the player's character ages, they are given access to new powerful moves, but if they get too old, they can die permanently and will have to start the game from the beginning.
Sifu combines elements of time-loop and rogue-like games to create a stunning and addictive fighting game. Its story of revenge can make for an interesting feature film. 87Eleven, Stahelski's production company behind projects such as Atomic Blonde and The Fall Guy,...

The martial arts videogame Sifu is heading to the movies, courtesy of Netflix and John Wick’s Chad Stahelski.
It’s been a couple of years since we heard that the popular beat ’em up videogame Sifu is getting the movie treatment. Back in 2022 when the news first surfaced, it seemed like a brilliant idea to us.
What makes Sifu stand out in a crowded field of brawlers, however, is a clever mechanic that ages the protagonist each time he’
s defeated. As he is defeated and ages, he returns to his quest for vengeance, becoming more seasoned and powerful as a martial arts practitioner, but also increasingly frail.
Eventually, if the player gets Sifu defeated too many times, he’ll become too wizened by age and will succumb to permanent death, unless of course they can complete the story in time. By the time you reach the end of Sifu’s lifespan,...

The 2000s and early 2010s were marked with a boon of young adult books getting adapted into the big screen. This could really be seen as starting with the runaway success of 2001's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" adaptation and its subsequent sequels. However, 2008's "Twilight" movie took things to another level, prompting studios to adapt pretty much any book that preteens were obsessed with. Some of these failed to launch, while others became cemented into the public consciousness, like "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games." but "The Maze Runner" series absolutely belongs in that latter category too.
Out of all the films to come out during the YA craze, "The Maze Runner" had the biggest bang for its buck, grossing $348 million against a relatively paltry $34 million budget. Two film sequels followed with "The Scorch Trials" and "The Death Cure," but it all began with that first story about a...

Captain America: Brave New World's reshoots resulted in sweeping changes to the Marvel Studios movie, including a new opening which swapped the Serpent Society for Giancarlo Esposito's Sidewinder.

Dylan O'Brien's breakout role was Stiles Stilinski in the MTV supernatural teen series Teen Wolf, but since the show's ending, he has established himself as a successful actor. He's had his own dystopian trilogy, The Maze Runner, starred in the two-time Oscar-nominated film Deepwater Horizon, and his latest roles have cemented him as a very successful star.
In 2024, O'Brien attempted a different role as he played a real person on Saturday Night. The film is based on the late-night live sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live, most specifically the show's premiere night in 1975, and O'Brien played Dan Aykroyd. Following the critical success of the film, Saturday Night is a new hit on Netflix, Tudum reports.

Exclusive: The Maze Runner filmmakers and their OddBall Entertainment studio have signed with CAA, we can tell you.
Wes Ball and Joe Hartwick recently signed a three-year, first-look deal with Sony Pictures where they are respectively attached to direct and produce the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda based on the uber-hit 150M copy selling video game franchise, for Sony and Nintendo. T.S. Nowlin is writing the new draft of Zelda. The game follows the elf-like warrior Link and elegant Princess Zelda as they fight to save the magical land of Hyrule from Ganon, an evil warlord-turned-demon king.
Ball most recently directed, with Hartwick producing, 20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, one of the key pics last summer to resuscitate the box office after a sleepy frame due to the strikes; that installment opening to $58.4M stateside and grossing over $171M domestic, and close to $380M worldwide.

At the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, "The Maze Runner" franchise star Dylan O'Brien made quite a splash with dual performances in a darkly comedic exploration of grief and loneliness called "Twinless." Not only did O'Brien win the US Dramatic Special Jury Award for Acting, but the film also took home the Audience Award in the U.S. Dramatic section of Sundance. That's because this is the best performance of O'Brien's career, and filmmaker James Sweeney pulls off an impressive balancing act both as a filmmaker and a captivating performer himself.
"Twinless" follows Dylan O'Brien as Roman, who is mourning the death of his twin brother Rocky (also O'Brien). Roman is a bit of a dim bulb without much of a personality, and he has a short fuse exacerbated by his grief. But most of the time, he's also a nice, quiet guy. Meanwhile, Rocky was the more outgoing brother, and he...

Dylan O’Brien’s latest starrer is all about grief. Specifically, what happens when an identical twin loses his other half? Six years after his first feature, Straight Up, James Sweeney is back as the writer/director/star of a new Sundance breakout. Twinless is an uncommonly funny, romantic, and tragic film about twinhood, parasitic relationships, and insecurity.
Twinless Sundance Review
Twinless features Dylan O’Brien in a dual role of sorts. He plays Rocky and Roman, two identical twins who couldn’t be more different. Roman, the macho man’s man, is our lead, a role O’Brien perfectly plays alongside Rocky, his softhearted homosexual mustachioed brother. After the sudden, tragic death of Rocky, Roman finds solace at a twin bereavement center. He meets Dennis (Sweeney), who has a secret connection to Roman’s late twin. After the two hit it off, they go on a journey of self-discovery as they navigate grief,...

“Twinless,” a comedic drama starring Dylan O’Brien, has been pulled from Sundance’s streaming site after sex scenes and other content from the film leaked online. The leaks came as “Twinless” won the festival’s coveted Audience Award on Friday.
It’s the second movie to be pulled from Sundance’s site this year. “Selena y Los Dinos,” a documentary about Tejano singer Selena, was also scrubbed from the service after the film “suffered a series of copyright infringements,” meaning it also leaked online. There were reports that fans were putting various musical numbers from “Selena y Los Dinos” on TikTok and Instagram.
“The film ‘Twinless’ was a victim of some copyright infringement on various social media platforms, therefore the festival in partnership with the filmmakers have made the decision to remove the film from the Sundance Film Festival online platform. Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet has added extra weight to his case for Best Actor, revealing that he gained 20 pounds to play Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.
“I’ve turned over every stone. I did all the work, like you just described, physicality, behavior-wise,” Chalamet said in a recent interview with NPR. “But something we haven’t really talked about, I also put on 20 pounds because, believe it or not, I was thinner than the guy.”

As Variety points out, Chalamet has previously spoken about receiving feedback for his smaller physique while auditioning for action roles. “If I auditioned for The Maze Runner or Divergent, things of that variety that were popping when I was coming up, the feedback was always, ‘Oh, you don’t have the right body,'” he told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe late last year.

Timothée Chalamet learned to play guitar and sing like Bob Dylan for “A Complete Unknown.” He also gained 20 pounds to look more like the folk music legend, he revealed an interview with NPR.

[Warning: This story contains mild spoilers for “Twinless,” which premiered on Thursday at Sundance Film Festival.]
Dylan O’Brien reveled in the process of playing dual roles in “Twinless,” a twisted comedic drama about two friends who meet in a support group for people who lost a twin. The “Maze Runner” and “Teen Wolf” star portrays identical brothers Rocky, who unexpectedly dies, and Roman, who is left to navigate the unbearable grief without his other half.

After his twin brother dies, Roman (Dylan O’Brien), an irascible young man living in Portland, becomes emotionally unmoored. What is life without his other half? So far not great. The funeral for Rocky is an awkward affair. Mourners line up to offer Roman and his mother (Lauren Graham) condolences only to start crying the moment they come face to face with the living twin. He looks so much like his brother, they say, it’s weird and a little uncanny.

Lauren Graham touched down in Park City on Thursday to attend the Sundance Film Festival premiere of her new film, Twinless. The bromance dramedy stars Dylan O’Brien opposite the film’s writer-director James Sweeney in the story of two young men who meet in a twin bereavement support group and form an unlikely bond.
Graham plays the mother of O’Brien’s characters — the Maze Runner star has dual roles as the twins, one who dies unexpectedly and the other as he attempts to find peace after losing his other half — and while the role is small, the veteran actress couldn’t pass it up. “I don’t often get offered something a little darker and something that felt like a cool challenge,” Graham told The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet inside the Eccles Center Theatre. “It doesn’t need to be about me. I can just go do something because I like it.

Sweeney billed the movie as a bit “DePalma and grief drama,” the story about a young man Dennins (played by Sweeney) who loses his gay lover Rocky tragically (played by O’Brien). However, Rocky has a twin brother, Roman. Both Roman and Dennis find each other in a twin-loss bereavaement group, and a complex bromance sprouts.

A decade ago, Dylan O'Brien was a rising star in the entertainment industry. After success on a little-known MTV series, he was tapped to lead what should have been the next big franchise. The popularity of dystopian franchises such as The Hunger Games and Divergent made it apparent that there was a market for more content. O'Brien starred as Thomas in The Maze Runner, an adaptation of James Dashner's book of the same name about a group of boys who wake up in a terrifying maze with no memory of who they are.
While The Maze Runner was a commercial success, critics were less impressed, and the franchise lost steam during the third film, The Death Cure. O'Brien was injured during a stunt gone wrong when he was hit by a car. The actor has since gone on the record about how his safety concerns were disregarded, leading to a bad experience on set.

Dylan O’Brien opened up about his new movie Twinless and his connection to earlier projects such as Teen Wolf in a new interview.
The 33-year-old actor hit it big with roles in teen fantasy projects such as Teen Wolf and the Maze Runner franchise in the ’10s. He’s been keeping busy lately, with starring roles in projects such as his newest, where he is double cast as twin brothers Roman and Rocky.
While Roman is straight, his brother Rocky is gay. Dylan, who is also straight, revealed how he worked with director James Sweeney to develop a “gay scale” that was used on set.
How did that work?

“I’m egregiously picky,” insists Dylan O’Brien, reflecting on a burst of productivity that, in the last 12 months, includes the films “Ponyboi,” “Saturday Night,” “Caddo Lake,” the Max comedy series “Fantasmas” and James Sweeney’s “Twinless,” which screens at Sundance. “I’m going to get skewered for this type of quote being out there … but I would have a much different career, I think, if I was a ‘yes to everything’ person.”
After launching his career more than a decade ago as a heartthrob on MTV’s “Teen Wolf” and in the “Maze Runner” films, each of those recent projects earned the actor praise for his versatility; no two roles are the same. Per Variety, Jarvis boards Wife & Dog, a movie the publication describes as a "return to the colourful, back-stabbing world of the British aristocracy Richie explored in The Gentlemen film and TV series." Ritchie wrote the screenplay for Wife & Dog and will produce alongside longtime producing partner Ivan Atkinson and Black Bear's John Friedberg. In the dystopian, post-apocalyptic world of Panem, the society that remains is divided into districts. Once a year, tributes who are usually children are selected from each poor, agrarian district to compete in the wealthy, decadent Capitol in a gladiatorial combat spectacular called "The Hunger Games." It's a fight until only one competitor is left alive, and it's broadcast on national TV, making it almost as important for the competitors to be telegenic as it is for them to be deadly.
This is the premise of Suzanne Collins' original trilogy of Hunger Games novels, initially turned into a four-part film series. Jennifer Lawrence became a certified A-lister as protagonist Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers as tribute to save her little sister, and eventually escapes the games to lead a rebellion against the tyrannical President Snow (Donald Sutherland). Collins has since written two prequels, one of which has also become a film.

The chances of a Divergent reboot are being addressed by original director Neil Burger, 10 years after the dystopian sci-fi franchise launched. An adaptation of the popular Veronica Roth novels, the film series explores a future Chicago where citizens are separated into factions, based on a primary virtue, and centers on Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley), a Divergent who uncovers alarming secrets about her society. Despite an underwhelming response from audiences, Divergent was a commercial success in 2014, and two sequels, directed by Robert Schwentke, were eventually released. However, plans to conclude the franchise beyond that were seemingly discarded.
Now, more than a decade after helming the first installment, Burger spoke with Screen Rant about whether Divergent can be rebooted. Although he had not considered it, the director explained that Lionsgate may look to remake the series at some point. Burger then expressed his appreciation for the movie and getting to work with...
