John Wick director Chad Stahelski has found his next revenge action movie in the form of Sifu, the upcoming adaptation of the hit video game from Slocap. This comes after three years since the original beat 'em up game was first released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows.

Per Deadline, Stahelski has officially signed on to produce the Sifu movie under his production banner 87Eleven Entertainment. The stuntman-turned-filmmaker is best known for directing all four movies of the Keanu Reeves-led action thriller franchise, including 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4. Stahelski is no stranger to video game adaptations, after previously serving as a second-unit director in 2015’s Hitman: Agent 47 movie. Besides Sifu, he is also currently attached to helm and produce Sony Pictures’ Ghost of Tsushima movie, based on the 2020 action-adventure game from Sucker Punch Productions.

Sweeney billed the movie as a bit “DePalma and grief drama,” the story about a young man Dennins (played by Sweeney) who loses his gay lover Rocky tragically (played by O’Brien). However, Rocky has a twin brother, Roman. Both Roman and Dennis find each other in a twin-loss bereavaement group, and a complex bromance sprouts.

The pic reps a return to Sundance for producer David Permut who sold the Jack Black comedy Polka King to Netflix, and for O’Brien who was here last year with Ponyboi. Sweeney gave props to Permut who discovered him at OutFest for his film Straight Up.

An adaptation of the popular Veronica Roth novels, the film series explores a future Chicago where citizens are separated into factions, based on a primary virtue, and centers on Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley), a Divergent who uncovers alarming secrets about her society. Despite an underwhelming response from audiences, Divergent was a commercial success in 2014, and two sequels, directed by Robert Schwentke, were eventually released.
