As the industry encounters a wave of diversity, equity and inclusion rollbacks, Amy Adams, filmmaker Karyn Kusama and Telluride Film Festival executive director Julie Huntsinger are booked to discuss representation in front of the next generation.
The trio will participate in a student-led Q&a panel as part of the Archer Film Festival at the Writers Guild Theater in Los Angeles on April 11. The chat, for Archer School for Girls students and aspiring filmmakers, is designed to focus on “pressing questions of how to create meaningful change for women in film, both in front of and behind the camera, within a rapidly shifting industry,” per the school.
The Archer Film Fest is an entirely student-led and organized effort that seeks to empower female filmmakers and amplify underrepresented voices. In addition to the Q&a, the fest will screen a selection of finalist films. More than 300 student-produced film submissions were received from more than 30 countries.

There are certain roles that can change the course of an actor's life. Few of them are quite as big as that of James Bond. The iconic MI6 spy has been a staple of cinema for more than 60 years, dating back to Sean Connery's debut as 007 in "Dr. No." Every actor, save for George Lazenby, has been catapulted to another level of stardom due to their involvement in the "James Bond" franchise. As a result, it's tough to imagine an up-and-coming actor turning the role down. Yet, that's exactly what Christian Bale did.
In the early 2000s, Bale was very much one of Hollywood's most promising stars. From "American Psycho" to "The Machinist," the actor was earning high praise for his deep commitment to various roles. That's probably why the "James Bond" producers, namely Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson,...

David Lynch is widely regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, known for classics like Twin Peaks and The Elephant Man. The latter, in particular, remains one of the most poignant biopics ever made, telling the tragic tale of Joseph Merrick, the deformed Victorian-era artist known as "The Elephant Man." Now, Jack Huston, well-known for his acting roles in Boardwalk Empire and American Hustle, is set to helm the upcoming remake of David Lynch's 1980s biopic, honoring the legacy of the late filmmaker who passed away in January 2025.
Backed by Phoenix Pictures, the film will be titled Joseph Merrick, and Kate Cohen, David Dobkin, and Mike Medavoy will produce it. While many adaptations have explored Merrick's life, David Lynch's 1980 film, starring John Hurt, remains the best version yet, earning eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Jack Huston, known for his acting work in Boardwalk Empire and American Hustle, has come aboard to direct a biopic centered on Joseph Merrick, the deformed Victorian Age artist known as The Elephant Man.
Phoenix Pictures is backing the feature, titled Joseph Merrick, which will be produced by Kate Cohen, Mike Medavoy and David Dobkin. Huston will also produce.
Production is looking to start later this year.
Merrick was an object of fascination during his life, and his story resonated beyond his lifetime. He was a man who was incredibly deformed and was used as a circus freak while a teenager and became an object of curiosity by London society as well as scientific circles, but he was also an artist whose work broke beyond the limits of his sometimes confined life. Five episodes into With Love, Meghan, audiences will have learned three things about host Meghan Markle: She takes pride in making breakfast for her family every morning; her favorite tunes to listen to are ‘70s soft rock, Yacht rock and French dinner party music; and she no longer wishes to be referred to as Meghan Markle.
“It’s so funny that you keep saying ‘Meghan Markle,’ you know, I’m Sussex now,” the Duchess of Sussex tells guest Mindy Kaling in episode two of the Netflix series. “You have kids and you go, ‘No, I share my name with my children.’ I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go, ‘This is our little family name.’”

Did Jennifer Lawrence send a hacker to prison? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Jennifer Lawrence had already carved a name as a fierce advocate for equal pay and women’s rights by 2017; her crusade had clinched a $20 million payday for Passengers, dwarfing her co-star and a much older male actor Chris Pratt’s $12 million despite. That triumph had introduced Hollywood to her mettle, yet her resolve soon went on to stretch beyond civil victories and plunged into the criminal fray.
Giving rise to a dark Hollywood saga of lecherous misconducts, a cataclysmic breach had struck the industry in 2014 — n*de photos of Lawrence and other female stars had surfaced online, pilfered from private iCloud accounts. Though, without flinching, The Hunger Games star exhibited a fierce hunger for justice as she became the voice of reckoning and demanded stricter laws. And her outrage successfully illuminated the grim underbelly of celebrity privacy.

Fans of The Officewon't struggle to think back on the cameo role that Amy Adams had. Early on in the series, she had a small but integral part to play. She fitted seamlessly into the mockumentary setup, and conveyed all the emotions her character went through after coming into contact with some of the bizarre people at Dunder Mifflin. The Office came early on in Adams' career in film and TV, demonstrating her ability to act with sincere realism. Moving on from the show, she has become best known for roles such as Brenda in 2002's Catch Me if You Can and 2007's Giselle in Enchanted, which earned her her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. She later won two of those awards in the same category, for American Hustle (2013) and Big Eyes (2014).
Adams was also the first guest roles on The Office.

“It’s not all Brutalism,” reads the bio line on production designer Judy Becker’s Instagram. “It’s pictures of my black cat, too.” Years before director Brady Corbet hired Becker to help him realize the designs of his fictional protagonist, architect László Tóth, in The Brutalist, Becker was a devoted fan of the concrete-heavy, minimalist style, sharing buildings that appealed to her on her social media account. “I used to love that everyone else hated it,” Becker says of brutalism. “There’s nothing ugly about it to me. It’s just so plain and soothing. I look at it, and I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s so beautiful.’ “
When it comes to admiring the brutalist style, Becker has a lot more company now, partly thanks to evolving tastes but in some part because of the world she helped create in Corbet’s movie. The Brutalist, which is about a...

Maybe Anora was the frontrunner all along.
In the weeks since the Oscar nominations were announced, Oscar pundits and awards strategists have treated the wide-open Best Picture race like an adaptation of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, searching somewhat fruitlessly for a contender that felt “just right.” However, on Saturday night, Sean Baker won Best Director at the Directors Guild Awards, and about an hour later, Baker and his film took top honors at the Producers Guild Awards. What had been considered a toss-up is now trending back to where the consensus was throughout the fall.
How did we get here, and what comes next? Ahead, here are three takeaways from the big weekend for Anora.

British royal family news teases that Meghan, Douchess of Sussex is displeased with the humiliating article Vanity Fair ran on her and the man formerly known as Prince, Harry, last month.
It’s been a rough new year and end of 2024 for Harry and Meghan. They were called “disaster tourists” due to taking a camera crew to stomp around homes burned in the catastrophic LA wildfires, possibly trampling on human remains while the actual owners were forbidden to go home.
They purportedly “volunteered” at an evacuation center for all of 17 minutes. On the heels of this trashiness, Vanity Fair ran a story on Hank and Skank titled “American Hustle.”
Royal Family News: Meghan and Harry Called Hustlers
The outlet talked to people who used to work for Meghan, people who called her an “awful boss” brining to mind a previous article in which she was accused of being a “demon boss” who has “psycho moments.

Every awards season, movie fans and aspiring pundits across the country become obsessed with the ever-coveted Academy Awards. The longstanding awards show has long been considered the holy grail of the film industry and can often feel like an all-encompassing part of the discourse, particularly around the four acting categories. In the lead-up to Oscar Sunday, many of us debate who will win, and once the ceremony comes and goes, there are still debates over who should have won.
Amidst this hubbub, it's important to remember that the Oscars are but a modicum of what represents the best performances in film. In fact, several of the best actors working today have never been given the honor of an Oscar despite years of treasured performances. The disparity between what Oscar voters love and what history remembers has always been a widening gap, but we can guarantee these 15 omissions from the winner's circle are particularly egregious.

Bradley Cooper has lost out on Oscars too many times despite his amazing acting abilities. However, fans are amused at the recognition he gets at the Grammys, winning his third award this year. He won in the category of Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media for his film Maestro.

Oscars last year was the latest snub for Cooper and he was severely trolled throughout the awards season. Cooper campaigned for his film Maestro, which took six years to film but failed to make a significant impact at the Oscars. Fans even accused him of being jealous of last year’s Best Actor winner Cillian Murphy.

British royal family news reveals that Meghan Markle was invited to Kerry Washington’s 48th birthday party just days after suffering humiliation at the hands of Vanity Fair.
Vf’s damning profile titled ‘American Hustle’ detailed Meghan’s shortcomings as a boss, just as a recent The Hollywood Reporter article did.
The left arm of Duchess of UnSussexful was seen for a micro moment in a video uploaded to social media by Jessica Alba, who is newly separated from Cash Warren.
Both Washington and Alba posted tons of photos and clips from the party, but Meghan was not in any of them. Maybe it was a cutout cardboard target practice Meghan that was seated at the table in the video?

Christian Bale is thought by many to have become an “actor’s actor.” He is fully committed to his characters, often staying in character during shooting, and he is not afraid to lose or gain weight in order to make a character more believable, as was the case with his Oscar-nominated role as former U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney in “Vice.”
Good reviews are something that Bale has gotten used to during his three-decade film career, beginning with his starring role in Steven Spielberg‘s “Empire of the Sun” when he was only 13 years old. In that time, Bale has been nominated for three Oscars (winning one for “The Fighter” with bids for “American Hustle” and “The Big Short”), three Golden Globes and five Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations of which he won two (for “The Fighter” and “American Hustle”). His 2022 films included “Amsterdam” for David O. Russell and “The Pale Blue Eye...

Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Slam Scathing Vanity Fair Article Claims Of “Brutal” Employee Treatment
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are vehemently denying the claims leveled against them in a scathing Vanity Fair exposé titled “American Hustle.” The article, published earlier this week, painted a portrait of the couple as demanding and difficult, with Meghan Markle specifically accused of creating a toxic work environment.
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Slam Scathing Vanity Fair Article Claims Of “Brutal” Employee Treatment
Sources quoted in the article described Markle as “brutal” towards employees, claiming she would switch from “warm and effusive” to “cold and withholding” depending on their perceived performance. Insiders alleged that Markle, often described as a “dictator in high heels,” would “yell at” staff, even if her voice wasn’t raised.
One source painted a chilling picture, stating, “Because she’s constantly playing checkers, I’m not even going to say chess, she’s just very aware of where everybody is on her board. And when you are not in,...

With the thrill of fast cars, bone-breaking action, and raw intensity that has become his signature, Jason Statham isn’t letting up anytime soon. From his unforgettable stints in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels to The Transporter, he’s been lighting up the screen with a thrilling grip that grabs you by the collar and throws you off your guard.
Statham’s career took off like a turbocharged engine when he first appeared in Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998. The movie’s success set the stage for what would become a fruitful partnership between Statham and Ritchie, culminating in Snatch (2000).

In 2024, Amy Adams appeared in the movie Nightbitch, and although the critical ratings are somewhat divisive, there's a chance that this film could win Adams her very first Oscar. Based on a novel of the same name by Rachel Yoder, Nightbitch follows an unnamed protagonist simply known as Mother. After abandoning her art career to care for her toddler, Mother begins to feel restricted, and as a result, starts to notice strange changes in her body. More specifically, Mother starts to believe that she and other mothers are turning into dogs.
Adams has enjoyed an outstanding career over the course of several decades, and arguably, her somewhat odd role in Nightbitch is not a huge surprise. Adams has proven her incredible versatility, from portraying a naive Disney princess in Enchanted to a conniving liar in American Hustle. Adams is not afraid to act in unique worlds or take on heavy characters.

How Old Was Jennifer Lawrence When A Scout First Noticed Her? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence was discovered at 12 years old while she was vacationing in New York City. Born on August 15, 1990, in Indian Hills, Kentucky, Lawrence had a pretty different childhood. She was raised on a horse farm and was more accustomed to rough-and-tumble life than prim and proper etiquette. “We thought we were finished having kids,” her mother, Karen, alluded. But then came Lawrence, and they were back in baby mode.
Though Lawrence didn’t always fit in with her peers, she found solace in acting. A “hyper” child with social anxiety, she recalled during an interview with Rolling Stones, “I didn’t have any friends. I remember being kind of lonely.” Her anxieties, however, vanished when she was performing. Acting gave her purpose, and little did she know, it was only the beginning.

"Oppenheimer" taking home Best Picture at the 2024 Oscars ceremony was more unusual than you might realize. As much as a WWII-era biopic about a bunch of white guys talking solemnly about Very Important Things qualifies as the ultimate dad movie, Christopher Nolan's film was also the first dyed-in-the-wool blockbuster to win Best Picture in two decades. Just as notably (but more relevant to our purposes here), "Oppenheimer" marked only the second time in that same period that Universal snagged the top prize at the Academy's annual awards show.
Take a step back and you'll notice that the biggest and oldest Hollywood studios, in general, began to win fewer and fewer Best Picture Oscars as the first quarter of the 21st century rolled along. Rather, this was the era in which the likes of indie-style producers and distributors such as Searchlight Pictures, A24, and Neon emerged as major players in the sometimes fun,...

Amy Adams' new horror-comedy with a 59% Rotten Tomatoes score has become a streaming success. After beginning her career in Hollywood with small roles in films and television shows, Adams' breakthrough came with her performance in 2005's Junebug, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. However, it was her portrayal of the spirited Giselle in Disney's Enchanted that showcased her versatility and charm, cementing her status as a leading lady.
With her ability to embody a wide range of characters, Adams continued to garner critical acclaim with her nuanced performances in films like Doubt, The Fighter, The Master, American Hustle, and Vice – all of which earned her additional Oscar nods. Adams continued to solidify her reputation with a mix of blockbuster and dramatic roles, including her portrayal of Lois Lane in the Dceu movies. Christian Bale leads the American Psycho cast in an unforgettable role, but there are other familiar faces in the pitch-black satire. Released in 2000, the movie adapts Bret Easton Ellis's puzzling book, introducing the unconventional Patrick Bateman, a successful banking executive. Despite being rich and an influential businessman in New York City, Patrick decides to give in to dangerous instincts, consumed by an insatiable desire to kill. American Psycho is a sharp send-up of men's obsession with materialism as Patrick effectively represents the embodiment of toxic masculinity and male privilege.
American Psycho is one of the best movies set in the '80s, capturing a rich and vibrant Manhattan in contrast with Patrick's dark impulses. Bale cemented himself as one of the most interesting actors of the 21st century with his mix of dark intensity and goofy humor. The other characters in American Psycho add to the surreal nature of...

Cooper – who famously studied at the Actors Studio in New York and once even asked two-time Oscar winner Sean Penn a question from the audience on “Inside the Actors Studio” – made his feature acting debut in 2001’s “Wet Hot American Summer,” and later broke out in comedies like “Wedding Crashers” and television hits like “Alias.”
But starting with 2012’s “Silver Linings Playbook,” Cooper reached another level. That film from David O. Amy Adams is one of the more celebrated actors of her generation. She was first nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her 2005 film Junebug. Since then, she has gone on to receive nominations for several other projects, including American Hustle and The Fighter. When Christian Bale’s “Pie Diet” Led To A 40-Pound Gain & Herniated Back For Role In American Hustle
Looking back at Christian Bale’s extreme pie diet for American Hustle
To play con man Irving Rosenfeld, Christian Bale didn’t just change his wardrobe—he changed his body. The actor famously gained 43 pounds, going from 185 to a hefty 228 pounds, driven by a “pie diet” and a relentless commitment to embodying Rosenfeld’s 70s swagger. Bale admitted, “I ate a lot of pies” to achieve that iconic rounded look.
Bale’s dedication to method acting has always been a talking point. Though he’s dismissed the term “method actor,” his extreme transformations speak volumes. In American Hustle, inspired by the real-life con artist Melvin Weinberg, Bale shaved his head to sport a balding look and packed on weight to reflect the character’s unapologetic, larger-than-life presence. Sydney Prosser, his on-screen love interest, describes Irving as not “necessarily in good shape,” but possessing a confidence that makes him irresistibly himself...

They say this town is ruled by fear. They say it’s all gloom these days when not outright doom. They say Hollywood just isn’t what it used to be. Not warm, not wild, not fun.
They may be right. But they obviously aren’t spending time in proximity to Colleen Camp, the if-you-know-you-know fairy godmother of the film business. A veteran character actress turned social networker extraordinaire turned indie producer, she’s close friends with seemingly every bold-faced name in the industry — from Jerry Bruckheimer to Da’Vine Joy Randolph (who name-checked her in her Oscar acceptance speech this year) — and who has in recent years built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most influential awards-season players. Camp’s intimate, no-press-allowed screenings, high-powered parties, star-studded dinners and assorted taste-making receptions have already altered the trajectories of scores of Oscar campaigns.

Amy Adams becoming an Oscar winner is long overdue, and while Nightbitch was at one time thought of as a potential contender for her, there's little chance that this is the movie that makes her an Academy Award winner. Adams first emerged as an awards contender in 2006 thanks to her supporting role in Junebug, which led to her earning four Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominations in only eight years. She then received her first Best Actress Oscar nomination in 2014 for American Hustle before going back to supporting five years later with Vice.
Amy Adams' Oscar nominations have left many, myself included, waiting for the day that she'll actually win. That's been more challenging in recent years when she's snubbed for beautiful performances like Arrival. The desire to win an Oscar brought Adams to take bold swings, like Hillbilly Elegy or The Woman in the Window. That continues with her leading role in Nightbitch.

With the most recent example being that of Poor Things, the actress has become the perfect role model for young women, being successful but at the same time not being complaisant to a bigger issue.
One of the most perfect examples of her impact has to be her 2017 Battle of the Sexes with Steve Carell.

Amy Adams held up filming Steven Spielberg's Oscar-nominated movie because of one Leonardo DiCaprio moment that kept making her laugh, saying, "That was my one regret." Adams is a six-time Oscar-nominated actress for her performances in Junebug, Doubt, The Fighter, The Master, American Hustle, and Vice. During much of this time, she was also playing Lois Lane in the Dceu. Today, Adams is one of the most accomplished actresses, having earned numerous accolades, which also include two Golden Globes and two Emmy nominations.
The actress made her film debut with a supporting role in the 1999 dark comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous and afterward, she began taking on multiple "mean girl" roles in low-budget movies. Amy Adams' first major role came in a Steven Spielberg movie from 2002 alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, though she faced a year of unemployment afterward. Her big breakthrough didn't come until a few years later in the 2005 indie dramedy Junebug,...

Exclusive: On Friday night, producer Charles Roven receives the 2024 Power of Cinema Award from the American Cinematheque for 40 years worth of films that have moved the cultural needle. That includes Oppenheimer, for which Roven accepted the Best Picture Oscar along with Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas. His list is long with films that have grossed billions of dollars and encompass Hollywood’s biggest stars and filmmakers spread across titles like 12 Monkeys, American Hustle, Three Kings, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel and other DC blockbusters.
My very first exchanges with Roven years ago were bitter; I’d learned that his wife, Dawn Steel, was dying from brain cancer. I had a fine relationship with her, but she was the first woman to run a major studio and I felt I was doing my job by divulging the sad news to Daily Variety readers. Roven was steadfast that their struggle remain private.
